    Harri great reaction as always, when Paul finished with the Beatles I remember at the time (late 1970) the music press wrote him off as never hitting the musical heights again, just shows you how journalists get it wrong big time, I recommend Paul's "Maybe I'm Amazed", it's ab fab.

      This proves why music critics are pretty much worthless. Music has always been and will always be a personal thing that varies person to person. I know many people who adore “Wild Life” and according to the critics if you so much as came near that album you’d catch on fire. Paul has never been successfully pigeon-holed because he’s not one single thing. He has excelled in all genres of music he’s ever tried, lol.

    • @aBeatleFan4ever
      @aBeatleFan4ever ปีที่แล้ว

      "when Paul finished with the Beatles I remember at the time (late 1970) the music press wrote him off as never hitting the musical heights again"
      Paul's first solo album was released on April 17th, 1970 and went to #1 in the US and stayed there for 3 weeks and was knocked into the #2 position by the Beatles "Let It Be" album. Paul's LP would have been #1 for 7 consecutive weeks - if they had held back the release of "Let It Be". His second album ("Ram") was released on May 17th, 1971 and was #1 in the UK and #2 in the US (kept from #1 by "Tapestry"). His first solo single "Another Day" was #2 in the UK, #5 in the US and was #1 in 3 countries. His second single "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" was #1 in the US. So the "music press" that you speak of in the quote above... was obviously proven completely WRONG immediately. McCartney was having huge chart and record sales success from the first moment he released solo material.

    This was Paul playing a plodding piano-chord melody similar to John's first solo album songs. You'll hear Paul do this a few more times, too (LET ME ROLL IT TO YOU is one example. I think these were Paul's enjoyment of John's work, as if imitation is sincere flattery. I don't think it was exactly one-upsmanship, but rather, "I like that - I'm going to try that style, too." This was also a simpler piano style that Linda could play, too.

    I heard Martin Luther was a nickname for John Lennon and Uncle Ernie was a reference to The Who drummer Keith Moon who played "the wicked Uncle Ernie" on The Who's 1969 album Tommy. And the 18th century military marching drums 🥁 remind me that this song came out in 1976 which was America's bicentennial so that same year Elton John came out with Philadelphia Freedom as well. There were a lot of patriotic themes popular in the US that year. Both Paul and Elton toured the US before the bicentennial so they witnessed all the hoopla.
