I bet that old Taurus keeps him grounded and reminds of to not take his success for granted, and to be grateful for where he is at.
Please tell me someone else remembers the car related segment from the early 2000s with this same Taurus. I'll never forget laughing so hard when he referred to his shifter as "the CONE-Bone" Those hilarious off the cuff moments (like the soap thing in this segment) make Conan the greatest. Give Conan a car and an INSURANCE AGENT and it's pure hilarity. It's really a testament to his genius as both a great comedy writer AND performer who can improvise. Then you factor in that he also manages to have such an amazingly loose, funny, warm , self deprecating, normal, calming demeanor with people AND in front of the camera. Could you say all those things about Jay or Letterman? Definitely not.
Thank goodness Conan stayed calm. This guy has been, and is still, criminally underrated and under-appreciated. Conan is what other hosts wish they were.
I remember when I was a kid and I'd watch late night, Conan would talk about his Ford Taurus. I also remember, "because my family owned one," Max Weinberg drove a Dodge Neon. Conan told Max his Ford Taurus was better, because he had been driving it for years, and that a Dodge Neon was just a penis with wheels.
I feel like it needs to be mentioned that this is a manual transmission Taurus SHO, which I don't think anyone would own unless they loved that specific car

It was designed that way to improve gas mileage which was the only way to get the motor is had in it approved by the EPA standards. Basically, it was the most futuristic car of its time. Also Yamaha re designed the engine that came in it. It had 220 horsepower. One of the quickest cars of its day, even when compared to Ferrari’s.
I owned an identical 1991 Taurus SHO in Emerald green, fully loaded with mocha leather interior and a five speed manny tranny. The car was truly a head-turner with the "go" to match the "sho." I wish I never traded it in.
