Something I've noticed over the series is that Damon always is the one to bring Elena her necklace back, when she wore it. This is interesting because since season 1 the necklace always was a Stefan/Elena thing, as it was his first gift to her. But Stefan is never the one to bring it back to Elena, it is always Damon, even tho he knows what it means to Elena. Another example of Damon being selfless.
Bcos Damon loved Elena no matter what, no matter who she is with. Even if she had to be with Stefan. Whereas Stefan only loved Elena when she was innocent and they were together. Damon’s love for Elena was unconditional and stefans was conditional
Also, Stefan leaves for the entire summer, Elena doesnt suffer a single scratch. Damon leaves for one day, Elena ends up in the hospital or ends up dead. I guess this proves who Elenas PROTECTER really is. Stefan decided to leave town in 3x21 right after his ''You have me'' to Elena in 3x20, because he thought she'll choose Damon. Damon will never leave Elena no matter what happens. ;)))

Damon in all reality is a little like Katherine in the sense that I blame neither one of them for acting the way they have in all of TVD. I was just watching a clip from season 1, episode 3, when Damon and Elena had their first REAL moment, (Aside meeting in Damon/Stefan's house) in the kitchen, and looking back on that, then looking at this.... Makes my heart beat.
It seems to me that Stefan is a dangerous and unstable ripper only when he´s on a bunny diet, then he tastes human blood and then tries to go back to being the good guy. Look for ex. at flaschback scenes where he´s "the ripper with no emotions and humanity", he´s totally fine and under control, he doesn´t even make his vampire face while cutting Lila´s wrist and blood is flowing underneath his nose. I would be happy if Stefan went to have fun with Bekah and Klaus and let Delena be happy :)

Elena required two signature moments for two brothers. This was her second. A reason she has Alaric compel her of Damon, but refuses to have Damon compel her of Stefan. She needs to forget why she fell for one, and remember why she un-fell for the other. The necklace is now Damon's for Delena. That's why he's the one holding onto it, and why Anna takes it from his bedroom. Her un-fall was required for Delena, so THIS had to happen. She wants to remember because she doesn't want to fall in love with Stefan again. This is every bit what loving blindly and recklessly looks like. She loved Stefan and he nearly ripped her head off.

I think that the most beautiful thing was about Damon offering to hypnotize Elena. OMG, more one prove of his selfishless.He was offering himself to make Elena forget what Stefan had done for her. He was willing to make Elena forget Stefan’s mistake, and he biting her and everything would be fine between Stefan and Elena again.None can say Damon was trying to steal Elena from Stefan, or that he was acting on his back. This scene proves that this argument is totally wrong.

I miss the first half of season 3. Damon and Elena were so close and in love then. Now she's making terrible choices and trying to get back with Stefan.. who continuously says he doesn't want to be with her. Elena has seriously lost her mind.

now that she is going to be a vampy girl she just may remember meeting damon in season 1 even though it only showed elena n damon meeting in season 3. she was the only person to make him chill an from watching so many times damon has way more love than stephan no matter how many times ahe pushes him away, damon deserves elena n damon never asked to be a vampire and always had a hell of a life now it should be his turn for love not this 3 some going on lol he would never leave her over any thing
Damon really kept the promise he made to Elena, he never left her alone, not even when she chose Stefan. Damon returns the necklace to Elena, it had already happened in the 1st episode, later on she confesses that she loved it, didn't want it, but really loved it.

@TheAmx27 I think that they are trying to build the image of Bad Stefan little by little probably on the episodes to come you'll see what you looking for. Damon was Damon from the beginning we knew he was bad, sarcastic and impulsive, but he also show how much he care. I do agree with you Damon is a very intriguing character and Ian is a great actor.
Elena required two signature moments for two brothers. This was her second. A reason she has Alaric compel her of Damon, but refuses to have Damon compel her of Stefan. She needs to forget why she fell for one, and remember why she un-fell for the other. The necklace is now Damon's for Delena. That's why he's the one holding onto it, and why Anna takes it from his bedroom. Her un-fall was required for Delena, so THIS had to happen. She wants to remember because she doesn't want to fall in love with Stefan again. This is every bit what loving blindly and recklessly looks like. She loved Stefan and he nearly ripped her head off.
