Intricate is not good.. intricacy makes it terrible to navigate and bad to live in for human beings. Causes lots of stress, health issues, and depression. The only thing that saves it are the beautiful hills, cleanliness, and natural scenary. Notice how sometimes the lanes merge with very little indication as to when/where. Sometimes lane lines disappear and reappear in totally different places forcing him to change lanes at an intersection (dangerous). Also seems to have very little public transit, I did not see many buses or any trains.

What stands out to me is how many shade trees there are on the walkways. Not only is it good for the environment and the local heat - it also encourages walking. It beautifies the surrounding architecture, too. I hope it can be more like this someday in the United States.

As a Canadian this blows my mind simply because at 32 million people it is just shy of the 38 million people living in ALL of Canada. Just wild. Beautiful city!
haha, actually Chongqing is a municipality so it's basically a province. Among the 32 million people, 24 million of them live in the suburbs or villages, but a city with 8 million people is still very large.
infrastructures in China are way better than Canadians, but the traffic jams in China are way more severe, I have experienced 1 hour for just 2 miles back and forth. (during the pandemic no very much ppl willing to take public transport)

I'm from the USA (Chicago) and I have to say that Chongqing is one of my favorite cities on Earth... it's not quite as easy to get to for a tourist as the large coastal cities, but if you can make it here, absolutely do it. Lots of history, great nightlife, some of the best food in China (home of hotpot,) and one of the most interesting and unique cityscapes you'll ever experience... a river metropolis with winding roads, an eclectic mix of building styles both old and new, built amongst the hills and forests. Truly one of a kind.
I love all the meticulous details that went into this city. The old architecture meeting the modern, the skyline, the cobblestone tarmac, the wide open spaces between buildings so it doesn't feel claustrophobic, how trees are everywhere and symmetrical so the city doesn't look like a grey hell, and how damn clean it is. There isn't a single trashbag in site. Holy crap, the city planners killed it. Good job China! Love, from the West.
I'm a native of Chongqing, and I actually didn't feel anything special about my surroundings until I went out to go to university. I was so proud when I learned how unique Chongqing is and how much people appreciate my hometown. Chongqing has become an increasingly popular tourist city in China, and local prices have also increased a lot with the arrival of tourists, which has also brought some troubles, but we still welcome everyone to visit Chongqing at any time, except in summer.

Absolutely impressive, the scale of the buildings and infrastructure is beyond anything I've ever seen. Then I reminded myself that Chongqing is one of the largest cities on the planet, easily surpassing New York City in population, but very few people in the west even know that it exists.

top 100 chinese cities all look kind of similar to Chongqing. they are all very modern, clean, green, and full of tall buildings. what makes Chongqing very unique is its layered topology, packed buildings, scale, population size, each of top 12 chinese cities has at least 10 million ppl or more. each of top 50 chinese cities has at least 6.5 million ppl or more. each of top 100 chinese cities has at least 5 million ppl or more. they are labeled as tier-1 & tier 2 cities. there are another 250 cities labelled as tier-3 & tier-4 & tier-5 cities. each of them hv city residents between 1 to 5 millions.
That is just jaw dropping! I love the way the traditional architecture is mixed with modern skyscrapers and roads. The plants and trees tie everything together.
I've never visited a massive city like that, the views are amazing. From a structural engineering perspective I think I would love every inch of it, the buildings and bridges are spectacular, very packed, and seems very organized as well. Much love to China, amazing

However, the density grows in an horizontal way, with relatively short buildings compared to the Chinese cities I've seen in videos, which has an amazing vertical dimension (most in comments compared with ciberpunk vibes)
Ive been to many cities in China but have yet to go to Chongqing, Shanghai and Beijing, arguably the 3 best cities. And I'd also love to visit Japan and Korea one day
One of my favorite parts of Chongqing is how every bridge is walkable. Gives you superb sights of the city, and since the rivers aren't straight, every angle is different.
This is absolutely incredible. I want to visit China one day, see some of those megacities and try to learn about Chinese culture and people. I haven't met many Chinese people yet, but each time I talked to one (when I did IT support from the UK) they were incredibly smart and friendly.
The real china is Taiwan with the original culture staying intact. Mainland is cool and all, but it’s very censored and cameras are everywhere. Near my home, there are around 100 cameras in the community. If you want to experience the real China, go to Taiwan

I have a different opinion on the points you mentioned in your comment. First of all about Chongqing, according to Wikipedia, it ranks 19th among Chinese cities in terms of population and 16th among Chinese cities in terms of GDP, so you can assess where it stands in terms of Chinese cities. As far as I know, Detroit is an industrial city famous for the automobile industry, and then something happened that caused the recession, and I'm not an American and I'm not from Detroit, so I don't know if Detroit is the worst city in the United States, but I can tell you Chongqing is not the best city in China. Of course, "most American cities have stopped growing" is too much to make me doubt the truth of this statement. The infrastructure of most Chinese cities has been built in the last 20 years or so, so it will look new and modern, while New York became a modern metropolis, most Chinese cities were turned into ruins by the war. Third, you said that China and Russia also have their own Detroit. I do not know about Russia, but I can tell you that China does not have a big city like Detroit in decline. Chongqing is my favourite city when it comes to mega cities in the world. Not only because I've been there myself, but just by looking at how amazing views you can get from this city. The mountains, the rivers, the infrastructure, the architecture and lots of greenery even in the city center. It's a very beautiful and well designed city and so underrated! To visit is a feast for all senses. I wish I could go back there one day. Thank you for making this video for the world to see.

What a beautiful city. It really maintains its traditional Chinese aesthetic in a modern metropolis that makes it distinct from western cities. Chinese people definitely deserve to have much pride in this city’s beauty.
The first 10 minutes when you exited the highway, that descent to the river bank was exhilarating. You can feel that the entire highway before that descent is completely built above ground level probably supported by concrete pillars. That is simply a remarkable feat of engineering. That drive along the river bank in the first ten minutes was so scenic and beautiful. You can feel the mighty Yangtze river (or is it another river) on the right all throughout that stretch. Amazing!

When people think of China, they usually only think of the big cities Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and technically Hong Kong. What people fail to realize is that there are a lot of relatively unknown cities (to foreigners of course) that would rival any capital city in terms of size, population and most importantly infrastructure, heck I've never heard of Wuhan before the pandemic and I was shocked to see how big it was.
Wow, what a lovely, photogenic city! I'm a distance runner, and I would love to run a marathon there. The bouncy, rolling hilliness, river views, bridges, and wide variety of neighborhoods is just perfect for a big race. I feel like Chongqing is China's own version of Riga, or Adelaide, or Medellín, or Québec City. A city that really should be famous worldwide, or even regionally, for its beauty and uniqueness, that gets overshadowed by larger, more-famous cities on its continent and in its country, and is resultantly, and regrettably, nearly-forgotten by both international and domestic tourists.

Had an wonderful pleasure to stay 10 days in this city. It's unreal, the old, the modern, the working people, the way people treat you. It's so big, but so peaceful, very different from the big Brazilian cities. My wife is native from Chongqing and if I could would live in this city. No words to describe, just the video shows more than words. Even she got surprised how the city developed from the years she didn't come back. On the way back we took the high speed train to Shanghai, the train was equipped with beds. Chinese people are very strong in spirit, they developed from the ashes of the poverty and famine from the last century. It's understandable how the world fears China, but few people really knows China.
They built all that on the back of the West and how do they thank us? Steal our intellectual property and rule with an iron fist. There’s no talk of freedom over there.
Back in 2019, i went on a school tour to China, and the last place we visited was Chongqing, and i loved my time there. I loved the unique designs of the local infrastructure, the hongya cave and other landmarks, as well as the positive vibes from the area. I enjoyed my time there and would gladly go back without hesitation.
How did you manage to move around chinese big cities? Their cities are not known for being tourist-friendly. You cannot read anything, understand anything, almost no one speaks english. it s a dream to visit Chongqing, but very difficult to handle, i guess...

I would count Chongqing as top 15 cities of China, among 10-15. behind Shanghai ,beijing ,shenzhen, (hongkong), guangzhou,hangzhou, suzhou,nanjing, wuhan,chengdu,tianjin.

I am a student from UBC Vancouver and my former Chinese roommate is from Chongqing. When I traveled with him before the pandemic, I was really struck by how special the city's traffic structure was. But I love the people and the delicious food here! But imagine these harsh examiners of ICBC trying to make you deduce the right of way and the rules in this city LOL
Lived in Shanghai for two years the level of infrastructure and aesthetics of the city is unmatchable. I visited Kunshan twice, work-related, in 2012. I went there from Shanghai Airport, so I thought I had seen a glimpse of the insanely massive scale the Chinese people build their infrastructure. Yet seeing this vid, I know Í'm wrong. This is truly something else, very tidy and especially green; lots of trees and greenery. Just imagine having to build a city like this and delivering this kind of solid quality. We better take this huge and ancient country serious in every aspect. And in these troubled times, please - let's stay civilised and respectful against each other. I'm English and I work in Chongqing as an arranger and composer. The city is every bit as mind blowing as it looks here, although after 9 years, you don't notice it as much as when you first arrive. Also, it looks like summer here, and what the video can't show is that it's 40 degrees and very, very humid 😅

3 hours of nonstop driving in an urban setting. That’s totally what I do everyday for the entire first week I visit a new city. I just regret not filming it all!
I've never been to China but this is one beautiful city! The diversity in architecture and even in the trees and bushes, you can see a lot of effort has been made to make this simply beautiful. I'd love to drive around there! Also, the layout of the lanes and street signs and stuff is all very logical and done with great care. 👍😊
u dont want to drive in Chongqing. even Chongqing locals get confused about its road system and navigation system is quite useless there because the city is layered. i visited Chongqing a few yrs ago. i could not find direction to my hotel everyday. and worst yet when i asked locals about direction, they either didnt know or they just pointed at a random direction and said to me there, there, not far. then it took me an hour to walk to the destination. 😅😅😅
I am a lover of urban planning and development, history and architecture, and this city truly takes my top prize. I have lived only in the USA, and we have nothing that compares to this, NYC is the best we can offer and it simply falls so so short of this megatropolis. I am still floored that it is home to 30 MILLION people, and the streets are cleaner than anything Ive ever seen in a city of any size. The way the roads are full but not congested, people rarely honk at each other even when there is a poor driver, or some random person crossing the road. The view from the bridge looking back toward the city skyline 13:22 it took my breath away, it looked like an a cgi special effect or something. I can imagine people who have lived here their whole lives just take it for granted, but the second they leave I am sure they appreciate their home town. I have never felt such a strong longing and desire to experience a city I have never even known, but Chongqing has done it for me. I will not rest until I visit there. I am going to spend days losing myself in the architecture and engineering. Absolutely gorgeous China, well done.

I've been there, in a University. The whole University was built on a mountain, I have to cimb up and down along the mountain every day, several times. And they were the days that I had my good shape...
Cityscape of Chongqing looks stunning looks like ultra modern Hong Kong times 10. Being mountainous is also a huge plus for me I love mountainous city. That ride along the river is like a dream for me my jaw drop constantly at how beautiful it is in its unique way.
Chongqing is very beautiful, you can ride bicycles along the river, and you can choose motorcycles in other places, because there are many roads uphill and downhill. Chongqing is very hot during the day in June, July and August, while other times are cooler.

Chongqing is definitely different from Hong Kong. It should be that way. I would not say HK is incomparable and the most special city in the world as that would be so arrogant.

I love all the meticulous details that went into this city. The old architecture meeting the modern, the skyline, the cobblestone tarmac, the wide open spaces between buildings so it doesn't feel claustrophobic, how trees are everywhere and symmetrical so the city doesn't look like a grey hell, and how damn clean it is. There isn't a single trashbag in site. Holy crap, the city planners killed it. Good job China! Love, from the West.

My point is flaws like "cheap and easy > safety" like at 4:04 where you have NO WAY of telling that two lanes get collapsed. No warning, no big signs, very short distance, very unreasonable. 今年六月底暑假去玩的，除了热爆了没有其他缺点，超级有特色的城市！好吃的很多，每天早上各种面轮着吃😂（碗杂面、肥肠面、重庆小面…）整个城市很立体，抬头层层叠叠的高楼，低头又是二十层楼高我这个平原过去的真是开了眼了😂而且那边的人都很热情友好，真是不错👍还去了成都，成都是第二次去，也超级喜欢，相比重庆更加悠闲的城市，适合养老，因为周边风景很赞，还去玩了四姑娘山，看了雪山🏔️推荐你可以走一走川西线，很美❤

I watch a lot of driving videos like this but they are always from cities and places familiar, so to see a place with architecture that is completely new and different is a really striking experience.
Absolutely impressive, the scale of the buildings and infrastructure is beyond anything I've ever seen. Then I reminded myself that Chongqing is one of the largest cities on the planet, easily surpassing New York City in population, but very few people in the west even know that it exists.

However, the density grows in an horizontal way, with relatively short buildings compared to the Chinese cities I've seen in videos, which has an amazing vertical dimension (most in comments compared with ciberpunk vibes)

One of my favorite parts of Chongqing is how every bridge is walkable. Gives you superb sights of the city, and since the rivers aren't straight, every angle is different.
Massive city! The infrastructure and urban planning were so well thought of. Have not seen any overhead cables, glad there also a lot of greens.
This is absolutely incredible. I want to visit China one day, see some of those megacities and try to learn about Chinese culture and people. I haven't met many Chinese people yet, but each time I talked to one (when I did IT support from the UK) they were incredibly smart and friendly.
The real china is Taiwan with the original culture staying intact. Mainland is cool and all, but it’s very censored and cameras are everywhere. Near my home, there are around 100 cameras in the community. If you want to experience the real China, go to Taiwan

Yea, if you want to live in communism, your money is going places where only a few people decide. Also, I'd wager this is one of the better cities in China. For every "Detroit" in the US, there are 10 worse ones in China and Russia. Cities across the US are constantly expanding and developing. Where is the proof that they haven't?
Look at businesses. A lot of them can look like "great places to be", until you find out the workers are barely making $15/hr. Then take a look at others, that are "run down", and the workers are paid a good wage and good benefits.
I have a different opinion on the points you mentioned in your comment. First of all about Chongqing, according to Wikipedia, it ranks 19th among Chinese cities in terms of population and 16th among Chinese cities in terms of GDP, so you can assess where it stands in terms of Chinese cities. As far as I know, Detroit is an industrial city famous for the automobile industry, and then something happened that caused the recession, and I'm not an American and I'm not from Detroit, so I don't know if Detroit is the worst city in the United States, but I can tell you Chongqing is not the best city in China. Of course, "most American cities have stopped growing" is too much to make me doubt the truth of this statement. The infrastructure of most Chinese cities has been built in the last 20 years or so, so it will look new and modern, while New York became a modern metropolis, most Chinese cities were turned into ruins by the war. Third, you said that China and Russia also have their own Detroit. I do not know about Russia, but I can tell you that China does not have a big city like Detroit in decline. In China, there is a small city named Hegang similar to Detroit, which used to be a small city dependent on coal industry, but later the exhaustion of coal resources led to urban decline@@lukeuseforce
Chongqing is my favourite city when it comes to mega cities in the world. Not only because I've been there myself, but just by looking at how amazing views you can get from this city. The mountains, the rivers, the infrastructure, the architecture and lots of greenery even in the city center. It's a very beautiful and well designed city and so underrated! To visit is a feast for all senses. I wish I could go back there one day. Thank you for making this video for the world to see.

The first 10 minutes when you exited the highway, that descent to the river bank was exhilarating. You can feel that the entire highway before that descent is completely built above ground level probably supported by concrete pillars. That is simply a remarkable feat of engineering.
That drive along the river bank in the first ten minutes was so scenic and beautiful. You can feel the mighty Yangtze river (or is it another river) on the right all throughout that stretch. Amazing!

When people think of China, they usually only think of the big cities Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and technically Hong Kong. What people fail to realize is that there are a lot of relatively unknown cities (to foreigners of course) that would rival any capital city in terms of size, population and most importantly infrastructure, heck I've never heard of Wuhan before the pandemic and I was shocked to see how big it was.
China has a massive population so inevitably they are gonna have lots of massive cities.

Wow, what a lovely, photogenic city! I'm a distance runner, and I would love to run a marathon there. The bouncy, rolling hilliness, river views, bridges, and wide variety of neighborhoods is just perfect for a big race. I feel like Chongqing is China's own version of Riga, or Adelaide, or Medellín, or Québec City. A city that really should be famous worldwide, or even regionally, for its beauty and uniqueness, that gets overshadowed by larger, more-famous cities on its continent and in its country, and is resultantly, and regrettably, nearly-forgotten by both international and domestic tourists.

Had an wonderful pleasure to stay 10 days in this city. It's unreal, the old, the modern, the working people, the way people treat you. It's so big, but so peaceful, very different from the big Brazilian cities. My wife is native from Chongqing and if I could would live in this city. No words to describe, just the video shows more than words. Even she got surprised how the city developed from the years she didn't come back. On the way back we took the high speed train to Shanghai, the train was equipped with beds. Chinese people are very strong in spirit, they developed from the ashes of the poverty and famine from the last century. It's understandable how the world fears China, but few people really knows China.

Back in 2019, i went on a school tour to China, and the last place we visited was Chongqing, and i loved my time there. I loved the unique designs of the local infrastructure, the hongya cave and other landmarks, as well as the positive vibes from the area. I enjoyed my time there and would gladly go back without hesitation.
How did you manage to move around chinese big cities? Their cities are not known for being tourist-friendly. You cannot read anything, understand anything, almost no one speaks english. it s a dream to visit Chongqing, but very difficult to handle, i guess...

most major Chinese cities are like this, at least the ones in the south because of the climate its good for evergreen trees, in the north the trees drop off over winter.

I visited Kunshan twice, work-related, in 2012. I went there from Shanghai Airport, so I thought I had seen a glimpse of the insanely massive scale the Chinese people build their infrastructure. Yet seeing this vid, I know Í'm wrong. This is truly something else, very tidy and especially green; lots of trees and greenery. Just imagine having to build a city like this and delivering this kind of solid quality.
We better take this huge and ancient country serious in every aspect. And in these troubled times, please - let's stay civilised and respectful against each other. This is the western region of China.
I'm English and I work in Chongqing as an arranger and composer. The city is every bit as mind blowing as it looks here, although after 9 years, you don't notice it as much as when you first arrive. Also, it looks like summer here, and what the video can't show is that it's 40 degrees and very, very humid 😅

China has beautiful scenery all over, but this i a hidden city (hidden from me lol) That I never knew existed and it is simply thee most beautifully breathtakingly scenic city Ive ever seen.. from the lush greenery and mountains to the old buildings mixed in with modern skyscrapers... The blue sky... Id honestly move here and never leave if I could! Thank you for posting this

FYI，Chongqing is also one of the hotest cities in china，which often reaches 40+℃ in summer，as much as I love the city，I never have the courage to live there

3 hours of nonstop driving in an urban setting. That’s totally what I do everyday for the entire first week I visit a new city. I just regret not filming it all!

I'm stunned by the skyline and the landscapes here, the amount of greenery with the buildings jutting out of it is VERY nice to look at.
greenery? it is fake. nothing but a facade, like everything else in china. it is so natural that you cannot find a single bird in this entire video.
I've never been to China but this is one beautiful city! The diversity in architecture and even in the trees and bushes, you can see a lot of effort has been made to make this simply beautiful. I'd love to drive around there! Also, the layout of the lanes and street signs and stuff is all very logical and done with great care. 👍😊

u dont want to drive in Chongqing. even Chongqing locals get confused about its road system and navigation system is quite useless there because the city is layered.
i visited Chongqing a few yrs ago. i could not find direction to my hotel everyday. and worst yet when i asked locals about direction, they either didnt know or they just pointed at a random direction and said to me there, there, not far. then it took me an hour to walk to the destination. 😅😅😅

I am a lover of urban planning and development, history and architecture, and this city truly takes my top prize. I have lived only in the USA, and we have nothing that compares to this, NYC is the best we can offer and it simply falls so so short of this megatropolis. I am still floored that it is home to 30 MILLION people, and the streets are cleaner than anything Ive ever seen in a city of any size. The way the roads are full but not congested, people rarely honk at each other even when there is a poor driver, or some random person crossing the road. The view from the bridge looking back toward the city skyline 13:22 it took my breath away, it looked like an a cgi special effect or something. I can imagine people who have lived here their whole lives just take it for granted, but the second they leave I am sure they appreciate their home town. I have never felt such a strong longing and desire to experience a city I have never even known, but Chongqing has done it for me. I will not rest until I visit there. I am going to spend days losing myself in the architecture and engineering. Absolutely gorgeous China, well done.
It's crazy how nobody talks about China and I never knew this city existed before. Odd considering it's the most populated country in the world 😕

Being mountainous is also a huge plus for me I love mountainous city.
That ride along the river is like a dream for me my jaw drop constantly at how beautiful it is in its unique way.
Chongqing is very beautiful, you can ride bicycles along the river, and you can choose motorcycles in other places, because there are many roads uphill and downhill. Chongqing is very hot during the day in June, July and August, while other times are cooler.
Doesnt have enough character as Hong Kong though. Hong Kong is incomparable and the most special city in the world

You will only know the character of the city when you live there long enough. Every city has its own character. Chongqing should not have the character of Hong Kong. Chongqing is definitely different from Hong Kong. It should be that way. I would not say HK is incomparable and the most special city in the world as that would be so arrogant.
