Wuhan, referred to as "Han", also known as Jiangcheng, is the capital of Hubei Province, the only sub-provincial city and mega city in the six central provinces, the central city in central China, an important national industrial base, science and education base and comprehensive transportation hub. The security forces are stationed. As of the end of 2021, the city has 13 districts under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 8569.15 square kilometers and a permanent population of 13.6489 million. In 2021, the city will achieve a regional GDP of 1.77 trillion yuan.
Wuhan is located in the eastern part of the Jianghan Plain and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. The Yangtze River and its largest tributary, the Han River, meet in the city, forming a pattern of Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang standing across the river, commonly known as the three towns of Wuhan. In the city, rivers and lakes are intertwined, and the water area accounts for a quarter of the city's total area. Wuhan is the core city of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the strategic fulcrum of the rise of the central region, and a pilot area for comprehensive innovation and reform. It is one of the three major intellectual-intensive areas in the country. As the economic and geographic center of China, Wuhan is known as the “Nine Provinces Link”. It is the largest water, land and air transportation hub in inland China, and the only city in central China that can directly fly to five continents in the world. According to the requirements of the National Development and Reform Commission, Wuhan is accelerating the construction of a national central city supported by the four functions of a national economic center, a high-level scientific and technological innovation center, a business logistics center and an international exchange center.
Wuhan is a national historical and cultural city and an important birthplace of Chu culture. Since the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Wuhan has been an important military and commercial city in southern China. The name of Jiangcheng began in the Sui and Tang Dynasties. Li Bai, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, wrote here that "the jade flute is played in the Yellow Crane Tower, and the plum blossoms fall in Jiangcheng in May". Therefore, Wuhan has been called Jiangcheng since ancient times. Since the Yuan Dynasty, it has become the provincial government of Huguang and Guangxi, and during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it has become "the first prosperous place in Chu" and one of the four gatherings in the world. In the late Qing Dynasty, Hankou opened a port to set up a concession and the Westernization Movement, making Wuhan an important economic center in modern China, known as the "Oriental Chicago". Wuhan is the first place of the Revolution of 1911, and has become the political, military and cultural center of the country several times in modern history.

I am from Papua New Guinea and currently living in Wuhan now (December 2022). Wuhan is beautiful beyond imagination. The Chinese people are undoubtedly hard working. Urban planning is the best in the world. Western media paints a bad picture about the Chinese Communist regime but the achievements of communist regime are amazingly incredible. The western world cannot match it. Wuhan is the best city. I love living in Wuhan.

Hubei people are the most friendly people in China and the city’s infrastructure is modern as much as any other Chinese city.

I would encourage my fellow Americans to view this video and especially the one on Chongqing City. Absolutely amazing. Temporarily forgetting the current politics, just remember these beautiful cities were built and created by the Chinese people whom live within. The energy and civic planning that is required to house 13 million people is mind boggling. Just these two videos has completely changed my limited concept about China.
I would encourage you to remeber who you're talking about and take off the rose colored glasses.
I've been to bejing twice and also xi'an and I had an amazing time there. China was so different from how I had imagined it. When you are there your mind is blown all the time. Even when you think you have a good impression of the country, it will prove you otherwise. Most of the time I had no idea where I was or what was going on exactly but it was all very enjoyable. I guess it also depends a bit who you are with. If you are ever there find locals to hang around with. You won't know what's happening but you will have a great experience.

10几年前去过武汉，来之前对武汉这个城市没有太多概念，只知道武汉三镇和一些古诗里提到的当地景物和地名。从机场出来坐车走高架桥，看到两旁的景色不由感慨武汉确实是个大城市。后面夜游汉口历史风貌区，走到了江边，非常激动的用手鞠了一捧长江水，那是第一次来到长江沿岸，就想着一定要摸摸长江😅

It's still a city focused on individual carbon powered vehicles needs. China had the chance to design cities from scratch with public transportation in mind, and yet... still build highways throughout residential areas.
Cities more public transportation and less noise from vehicles. The pandemic showed everyone just how nice cities can be when you remove most of the cars from inside the cities, and yet... governments keep making car centric cities.

i will give u a perspective. the scale of NYC would not match the top 10 chinese megacities. NYC is only about 800 sq km in size. NYC could fit in the category of "a large city" in chinese context, but not "a megacity". for example, Wuhan is 10th largest chinese city. its 8500 sq km in size with a built-up area of 1000 sq km.
in chinese megacities, it's not unusual to takes 1.5 to 2 hrs to drive from north part of the town to south part of town on highway speed. without inner city highways, you are going to stuck in city traffic for a whole day if you try to travel across the town.
