Thirty years ago, aliens arrive on Earth. Not to conquer or give aid, but to find refuge from their dying planet. Separated from humans in a South African area called District 9, the aliens are managed by Multi-National United, which is unconcerned with the aliens' welfare but will do anything to master their advanced technology. great film. main character went from totally insufferable to beloved and redeemed. its a shame we never got a follow up film
Maybe it's better that way. Leaves room for imagination. If they make a sequel it better be as good as the first one
The follow up film would be pretty boring with the Prawns bringing in actual warships and wiping out humanity in a couple days

Wikus was so abnocius in the beginning, in my opinion he got whtpat he deserved, but he reddemed himself towards the end, such an awesome character.

The object was a weapon to turn humans into prawns. That tube was meant to be used and have it be airborne for humans to turn so that the prawns can negotiate to leave earth and "bring" back a cure
The object was fuel for the key ship so it coukd fly up to the mothership and leave earth and come back with the cure
I'm pretty sure it was established that was fuel that happened to mutate people into Prawns.

It’s definitely one of those movies that could have a sequel to. A time jump forward kind of thing and we see the aliens migrating into foreign countries etc. as a take on todays current political climate

This was such a great movie, it had so many aspects that reflected on our historical to current conditions in human treatment, using "aliens" as a prop for how certain nations/ demographics are towards fellow humans. Europeans and Indigenous Americans and Mexicans, Europeans and African nations, Europeans and Australia's indigenous, Europeans and Canada's indigenous, Europeans and New Zealand's indigenous, etc. This movie does not need a sequeal, the point is made. Those who start to show empathy and are treated like thr downtrodden, is only when people become aware of the horrors of their mistreatment.

That’s the whole point of the movie. It’s an allegory of the real-life events that took place during apartheid-era District 6 in South Africa.

I dont understand how a fluid used to run a ship can biologically turn a human into an alien.
That’s the beautiful thing about sci-fi, there are lots of things you’re not supposed to understand.
Their weapons and tech can only be used by them, so their tech is actively responding to prawn DNA so the liquid inside of their tech has trace amounts of their DNA which is why is turned him
