    A little snow in May is not too uncommon. A couple of years ago I drilled 25 acres of oats, next day there was 6" of "white mulch" on top of it. BTW, that is a really nice looking field!!.

    Great video Mike,that river bottom ground looks really nice! I live along the Susquehanna River here in PA which floods a lot too but the ground is always productive.

    Pretty view with the river right next to the field. Hopefully the river behaves and stays within its banks for you this year. I was planting corn last week with snow flurries. Its been a strange spring for sure.

    Hey Mike....question...why do farmers chisel plow more now..rather than moldboard plowing?

    • @mikep7810
      @mikep7810  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason why we chisel is for a few reasons. its faster than moldboard plowing. With the shanks going into the ground it helps break up compaction. We still moldboard sod ground we are plowing up. With ground that has already been soybean or corn we dont want to turn the ground over we want to rip up the ground to plant again

    Have you ever looked into using a field cultivator with a trailing cultipacker? It might save you a trip.

    • @mikep7810

    Hi Mike, the NY DEC might put some rip rap boulders along that bank if you contact them. It's worth a shot. I think NY State might be cutting back though on conservation, but i'd still try if you want. nuther nice vid, alway's enjoy.

    Hi Mike! Love the videos. I just have one question I noticed there are no trees along the river bank. Without tree roots holding the soil together won’t the river keep eating away at your fields?

    • @mikep7810
      @mikep7810  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It never use to be as big of an issue but seems like as of late its becoming an issue. Planting trees now might not have the roots to hold for many years when it's too late im afraid

    • @mikep7810
      @mikep7810  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chisel plowing breaks up the subsoil where moldboard plowing rolls the dirt over.

    • @mikep7810
      @mikep7810  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats for sure. Most of those tires around there are from the hay wagons. Our original plan was to get new hay wagons this year but we weren't able to sell some old equipment at the local auction to pay for the new equipment so its time to get all the old hay wagons up and running
