The basic difference in the various mediums is their drying time and how sticky or slippery they are. The artisan water mixable linseed oil is very slippery, like baby oil and allows the paint to slide on easily. Stand oil on the other hand is very thick and sticky like molasses and it takes longer to dry. The best thing to do is to experiment with the various mediums to learn their behaviours... then use them according to the effect you are trying to achieve. I have used both the linseed oil and painting medium to coat the canvas and haven't noticed any discernible difference. They both work fine to "wet" the canvas
Fantastic ! And that's another thing I have NOT seen in any other videos on TH-cam - You suggest coating the canvas with the painting medium. This is fabulous and I will be doing that on my next painting! thank you.
