The Casios with an EL light have a small film over the LCD, it impacts clarity on both positive and negative displays, but it really takes a hit on the negatives. The newer ones with an LED backlight are much clearer, even though they're still just TN. The STN screens on the full metal are where it's at (also the pixel-based MIP ones).
I love this watch. I bought an all black case and band for it. Black out with subtle blue. I use it for free-diving, fishing and boat days. Unfortunately radio features don’t come down to south florida….. edit: the negative display is extremely legible in SUNLIGHT, where it’s needed most - and the stopwatch lets you see current time, total win!
I'm not sure how many types of displays there are on squares, but there are a bunch. The GW-B5600 series (resin solar atomic bluetooth) and GMW-B5000 series (full metal g) use a pretty much identical module, but only the full metal ones use an "STN" display, which is really excellent. Still both of these lines of squares seem to have a better display than the older DW-5600 and GW-M5610 lines. I've gotten rid of all by negative displays other than the new ones. They may not have the visibility of the positive ones, but they're good enough where I've never had an issue.
I have a black G-Shock with 3159 module. I want the white for the summer time. The white with the same module, has the stainless buckle and buttons, and I prefer the black trim. It looks great on your wrist 5:02
If...if it would have a positive LCD display I´d buy it instantly. I like the white case & strap but the display is unusable, yeah Rob, I say it again. ;-) I´m sure youre not able to read this model´s dial in dim light. The screen on my GBD-800 lookssimilar to this gwx-5600c and its absolutely horrible to read.
@@kyleswanson9572 So I have the GWX and have come to the conclusion that the the best thing about the negative display is...it looks cool. I am seriously selling it because it's hard to tell time in dim lighting or when you are outside. The extra second of squinting is just silly despite the cool points. I prefer my G5600E-1 with the positive display. The strap is also softer whereas the GWX's strap is more stiff.

Can you tell me where you bought the black case from, also did you get the high gloss case or the matte black?
@@davidschulz5334 I don’t remember the store but they were factory parts using the same serial numbers as the originals. They were also inexpensive.

I prefer the positive version too! Black looks cool but id take function over cool.

There is a limited edition white with positive display: GWX-5600WA-7JF. And there are GWX-5700 in different colors...
