I love Angella hewitt humble interpretations of Bach. She totally nails it and then you are blessed and privileged with only the composer. She is my favourite Bach interpreter.
During lockdown she played some lovely pieces from home. In one of them, I kindly asked if she would play one specific prelude in D minor. The following morning, she had uploaded it. She has no idea the tears of joy and appreciation she had brought to my eyes. I felt so special and privileged. Thank you, Angela Hewitt for being an unique 💎.

More than precision, more than mere technique. This is what happens when it's played with love. The word "definitive" comes to mind. You're setting the standard high, indeed.

The absolute best fugue ever to me would be his contrapunctus XI from the Art of fugue. And VIII after that. Then comes this fugue 883 :) Rating Bach, how silly ;)

There is life after Glenn Gould ;-) very nice, clean, secure and beautiful interpretation on piano, bravo!
joli enregistrement, avec les différentes voix qui sortent très bien dans les deux mains, dans un cadre superbe, en plus!

I had almost given up hope in trying to find Bach's prelude and fugues played on piano forte that i personally enjoy partly because emphasis becomes so important and in most recordings it sounds like they have not put in any effort and unable to have a natural emphasis, this is the most pleasant piece I've heard by Bach on piano. Even if I never care much about anything visual in the video, it doesn't matter here because the music is incredible

if you like the piano, try and meet the recordings by Rosalyn Tureck (died 2003), or Ivo Janssen (not or scarcely on u-tube?), the latter with a quite fine baroque swing, phrasing and timing. among some others. imho.

one of my faves from book 2 to practice. The triple fugue is quite rewarding.

In the next life I want to be reborn half Bach to be able to write such a fugue, and half Angela Hewitt to be able to play it like this.

Nice! The prelude is so charming, almost like a Scarlatti sonata. And the fugue has an electric feel to it, I guess Beethoven would have played it in a similar way, although probably with a little bit more acuity.

If I remember correctly, this is the only triple fugue in the collection.

Would be better if it was played slower l feel, somehow it's not quite quiet enough in spirit ie too bright in its yearning.

l've just listened to it again and maybe l was surprised at how 'bright' it sounded at the time. lt is exquisitely played and l think l was over-reactive at the time. Forgive me 💐
