    It’s interesting how the theories change so drastically depending on whether you perceive Minako’s friends as real or not. Personally, I have mixed feelings. Both sides make sense but the original video really hints that she may just be delusional. One comment said Minako may have seen Charlotte in a movie and imagined her as a friend and that makes perfect sense to me. Especially because her style in this video and the original are so different. It would make sense that Minako would have altered her to make her a more ideal friend.

    • @noneofyourbusiness9862
      @noneofyourbusiness9862 2 ปีที่แล้ว +436

      Yeah, it's interesting to see. I think this may suggest that charlotte is real:
      Charlotte was an angel to the people of the church.
      We are shown that here 0:37
      However, she's always been secretly rebellious. Not just rebellious but dangerously rebellious. Shown that here : 0:44 She goes as far as burning the church down.
      Then..the cross. The cross is facing upwards in the beginning when Charlotte is introduced. However, it is facing downwards when Minako is introduced. An upside-down cross can signify satan or the devil in Christianity. Reminder that in the onigiri video Minako had a satanic symbol on her chest. I think this means that Minato saved Charlotte, but charlotte didn't know Minato was a horrible, jealous conniving person which is why Charlotte ended up biting the apple.
      Edit: ooh, I just looked at the lyrics and there's a lot about sins, the devil, and jealousy..

    • @noneofyourbusiness9862
      @noneofyourbusiness9862 2 ปีที่แล้ว +88

      @@glass53 Right, right. So many people think pbc is minako's delusion and that the two other members except gyaru are fake because of the MV PBC. I honestly think when Minako was in that dark room she was either in a mental hospital or locked up in her room reflecting on everything she's done. Traumatized. if minako was actually jealous obsessed with gyaruko then it makes sense that after killing gyaruko (and possibly the other members) she wouldn't know what else to do. Lost. Which is why she looks so dead inside.

  • @katherinec.8124
    @katherinec.8124 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4396

    I’ve seen a lot of interesting theories in the comments about if Minako’s friends are real or not, honestly I think it’s a combination of both. I think that Minako’s friends do exist, but Minako’s delusions make them appear different than they actually do, maybe relating to how she sees them. In Charlotte’s case, she would appear as a nun because she looks up to/ worships Minako. This could be because of the last scene of Char being on the floor when Minako finds her, as it could mean that Minako previously helped Char at a low point in her life, and now Char feels indebted to Minako, which means helping Minako with her crimes. In the scene where Char is burning down the building, her face changes to show that she is conflicted, showing that even though she feels she owes a debt to Minako and thus does what she wants her to do, that on the inside she hates it, and maybe we’ll see Char challenge Minako in some way in the future.

      I'd like to add that Charlotte's aesthetic is reminiscent to a gothic-flavored evil eye chuunibyou, a common trope in anime/manga/games. The evil eye chuunibyou is a character who wants to be seen as special by claiming they have special powers, e.g. Charlotte's lore implying she may or may not be a fallen angel (I specifically say evil eye chuunibyou because there are other lesser-known types of chunibyou, but we're focusing on that). These characters are often portrayed as dramatic and delusional, so it may be possible that this song might actually be how Charlotte would describe her friendship with Minako, through her gothic Christian symbolism-laden fantasy lens, of course.
      But as you said regarding Minako making her friends appear differently than they actually do, it might actually be Minako's interpretation of Charlotte's "delusions", and Charlotte's lore may have been interpreted differently by Minako...And knowing how Minako is sort of like an unreliable narrator, yeah...

    • @ramune.2160
      @ramune.2160 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Adding on to this, I saw someone say that the cross turning upside down meant she abandoned heaven. I don’t think this is true, in reality, I believe this means she abandoned or turned against God, in this case, Minako.

    Once upon a time, there was an angel whose wings were missing.
    Her name was-
    The garden of eryngiums¹ that was abandoned by the Gods
    Who kept wandering in the darkness-
    Under the moon's pouring juice,
    This soul was reached
    The bells of destiny resound.
    Mirror, life, destruction, salvation, ask God
    The angel eats her sins painted in red of jealousy
    Embracing her unfulfilled prayers
    Kneeling, searching for God, paranomare
    A floating memory, a sweet trap that melts your heart
    Take me and swallow this hot love
    Whispering, the voice of the world (devil) invites you
    The maiden in love cuts her wings to escape, aah
    The flower of sins withers
    Bringing an end to this corrupt night
    The blood of salvation, picaresque² is ressurected
    Pain is a proof of life
    Unsatisfied, my body tightens
    Without turning the face from the idea
    Yora na tai ikashi ana
    Uso no te de iwade wo tadashi³
    The sound (soprano) of verdict blooms under the Cross
    Nobody knows what's beyond heaven
    The dawn leads to the requiem (finale)
    My name is Charlotte, that role is-God's
    Agent/Enemy
    ¹Eryngium is a genus of flower, also known as Sea Holly. It means independence, severity and attraction. It also is a resistant flower that can live without being taken care of for a long time, and are excellent for cut or dried flower arrangements. You can search more about it if you want to.
    ²Picaresque is a type of novel. "Picaresque derives from Spanish picaresco, which means "of or relating to a picaro," the picaro being the rogue or bohemian usually at the center of picaresque fiction. The typical picaro is a wandering individual of low social standing who happens into a series of adventures among people of various higher classes, and often relies on wits and a little dishonesty to get by. The first known novel in this style is Lazarillo de Tormes (circa 1554), an irreverent work about a poor boy who works for a series of masters of dubious character. The novel has been attributed to Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, but his authorship is disputable."
    ³Thanks to a comment I discovered it's an anagram for "I only need you" and "Hold me with your arm"

    My theory seems quite basic compared to the intriguing ones but this is how I perceived this video: Charlotte isn't literally religious, instead religious imagery here is used as a main motive to symbolize her story. I saw it as how she's either raised or expected to be this innocent little saint, since nuns are woman who are preserve their virginity and avoid marriage so it could indicate how they don't want her to do adult like things or grow up fast. Like someone else said in the comments, I feel as if Charlotte doesn't want to be viewed as this anymore but is struggling to break free. I feel as if certain scenes represent her beginning her rebellious phrase where she lashes out and no longer wishes to stay innocent, hence the imagery of violence.
    Beginning of this video, we see a girl in a large bird like cage, being surrounded by quite a lot of red hues. Red is a color that interprets lust, revenge, blood which juxtaposes nun principles if I'm correct, so to me it indicates hows Charlotte is confined and hidden away yet yearning to break free. Next portion of the video I'd like to focus on is 0:51 where we see a woman (Charlotte?) staring at a fiction of younger her reaching out towards her father so I'm thinking tha her father wants her to remain child like and pure, keeping her confined like a helicopter parent while she just wants to break free. He's possessive over his daughter, not wanting her to leave and grow up. Her younger self is reaching out to her father in a similar position you would see someone worshipping a god in, viewing this person as very superior. Either her father sees himself very high or she views him as her god, guiding her through life. It's also pretty vital how there's a red hue completely on this person she's reaching out to whereas on herself, there's only either pink or mixed with blue, almost presenting this person as a disturbing target. Again, red feels like a juxtaposing color against Nuns (Links to sexual activity and murder) so her younger self naive to see it, is reaching out - wearing white coloring to interpret youth and innocence as she's attached to her father whereas her older self has a lot of distance, wearing more dark clothing which shows a change of perspective over time, mature to understand her father's toxic nature. I find it also fundamental to note the stained glass in the background show sequences that reflect Charlotte's life: first glass showcases two people kissing (?), engaging in adultery which again goes against the church: perhaps her parents engaging in sexual activites is a metaphor on how they were young and lust driven to result in a accidental pregnancy (also it's cool to note the red moon behind them which is reoccurring) Second glass shows a person holding a baby, roses beginning to grow: I think this infers perhaps how her mother wasn't an active figure in her life whether deceased, physically/mentally/psychologically not present and how her father was a single parent raising her, feeling very protective of his daughter. Red flowers flourishing indicates how since birth, it was destined that Charlotte would never follow her father and was going to rebel eventually. I'm thinking maybe he had her too early, unexpectedly having a child early so he forced her to become a sweet stern saint to avoid her following a similar tragic fate. I'm not sure what the next one exactly is but we see a woman reflecting largely who I assume is an important Deity figure. Last two are visions of what happens later on in the video, where Charlotte is reaching out to this Deity figure and reaches for a knife, almost as if god is telling her to get rid of this target. I'm thinking she's probably gone insane at this point, her brain allowing her to make excuses to escape her toxic protective parent. In the next shot, she's wielding a gun and shoots in the same direction the person was originally sitting which to me indicates her breaking ties and gaining her independence, no longer enslaved and finally free rather then *literally* killing them. (Also her clothing is no longer quite gentle or heavily white)
    I feel like the frame of burning toys shows the torment and neglect her father caused her, perhaps spoiling her to make up for a lacking second parent and perhaps not giving her the correct attention. But also hoping if he pleases her with whatever she wants, she would be content and never want to leave. Her toys could also infer how she had no real friends, locked away from the world as this angelic child who never grows. Them all burning shows how she's grown up and no longer wants to be perceived as that of a helpless little child anymore. It's important to note how earlier a gun was used to show her breaking ties, quick and painless. Maybe it's how she wanted it to go originally, a clean end. Yet now, she uses extreme slow methods like a knife and fire to cut ties. Fire could suggest how she finally snapped, referring to her rebellious outbreaks and aggression against her egotistical father and a knife could suggest how slow and painful this process felt for her while it also contains religious imagery that I'm too uncultured to comment about. Another thing I'd like to zoom in on is the flashing imagery between two versions of herself: one is the nun who has a psychotic smile, slightly tearing up as another is quite similar to younger her, wearing white clothing. Earlier, there was a scene I hadn't analyzed which was 0:30 - 0:44. Her nun side seems quite reserved, dull, basic, how she feels she has to act and portray herself because of her father. Yet her childlike innocence is wearing away because of adolescence hence her ecstasy. Blinking between these two suggests how she's fighting to become her own person, another note is her eye patch: "An eye for an eye." Another connection to revenge as she's fighting for her rights or it could be how she views the world black and white because of her childhood, blinded to the real world and completely new to it. Her holding the knife high like a holy object that would free her from her burning hell.
    I believe when Minako shows up near the end of the video, it could either refer two things:
    When Charlotte looks up at Minako, she has dull broken eyes, being looked down upon again in her childlike clothing which could refer to when Minako kills her or was friends with her, she makes Charlotte feel the exact same way her father did, trapping her back in her cage as this naive tiny incapable child. The cross tripping over suggesting the saint has fallen/died, indicating death and how evil has overtaken.
    OR (the most likely one):
    Charlotte is finally free yet feels lost without someone to guide her (mindset of a victim with controlling abuser) so she puts herself back in her cage, afraid to take the next step alone. Minako takes advantage of that and allows Charlotte join her club, freeing and guiding her to a better life. The cross tipping over could either suggest how Minako is considered a bad influence to Charlotte or how Charlotte has finally broken free from the image of this saint, becoming her own person. Another important note is the contrast on how Charlotte dresses (fashion being a key theme.) Lolita, typically more gothic lolita which is her style, is seen as a vulgar and spiteful in some religions, so her going from a reserved innocent lady who was watched by her god like manipulative parent is now a free woman who is protesting for her full freedom. It's like how Gyaru is based off a female rebellion fashion in Japan which is pretty cool! I can't wait to see what's done for VYT-24, since she wears maid attire, it may be how she feels indebted to Minako.
    Seems like Minako perhaps is freeing all her friends from their own problems and inspiring them to be original, giving them a reason to have their styles to protest for something while she slowly begins to feel like no one is saving her the way she did them, feeling as if her style isn't original nor does it have any special meaning behind it, leading to stealing/killing her friend's out of envy. I believe she's self conscious that her own story isn't unique or hold any valuable meaning like the rest of her friends who are making statements through their fashion.

The nun imagery and the dresses of pure white feel like some sort of plight to her innocent, along with the stained glass church scene. Maybe she’s an accomplice to the murder in some way like covering it up but Then she ends up being betrayed by minako who kills her???

    "My name is Charlotte, and my role is... to serve God"
    Aaaaaaaaaaahhhh!! The team has really made something special here -- the feeling of the first 80 seconds is very much that of an old, classic gothic horror/romance, like it's the opening of a short OVA series from the 1990s that was overlooked at the time but received a cult following later. But after that point, you get that glitchy sound design that's very thematic and almost seems to signal Minako's "intrusion" into this world -- if you look at it straightforwardly you could assume she's arrived while Charlotte is at her most vulnerable to offer her an "out" of her story that has become a dead-end tragedy (due to her own actions... not unlike, perhaps, Minako herself).

    So I'm seeing a lot of people theorizing Charlotte was an accomplice of sorts to Minako, but I believe it's a little more complex than that. I believe she witnessed Minako kill someone else, and was threatened into submission to help carry out more murders in order to stay alive, as shown by her apparent worship of Minako and the knife she bares at 1:15. Additionally, the way her face shifts between excited and horrified after burning down the school at 1:28 seems like the divide between what she shows externally and feels internally to me- to Minako, the one she must worship as a 'god' she has to show enthusiasm towards the awful deeds she's being forced to carry out, while being completely terrified of both the things she's done, and the things that will happen to her if she doesn't continue doing them.
    Finally, I google translated parts of the song, and the final line says "My name is Charlotte, and I am God's agent/enemy", which shows the complex nature of her feelings towards Minako, both having to revere her, and despising her, as well as revealing Minako's feelings towards Charlotte a smidgeon; useful as an agent, but easy to discard once she was done with her.

      In my opinion, it's a bit different to that???
      I know my theory may sound a bit crazy but...
      because Pochi is still alive here and I think this one just shows about Charlotte's seemingly destructive behavior that was until she met Minako where she became a bit tame like I understand VYT(whatever that robot girl's name is) does not talk much in a group which makes sense because she's a robot but Charlotte is also quiet, only seen as hugging a bunny and she has this demeanor of a shy quiet chuunibyou but she is seen talking with Minako at one scene in Pink Bitch Club (where they are shopping and hey it's the only music video that shows the whole casts' interactions with each other). But is never seen at least in the whole opening interacting with Gyaruko(to the best of what I remember) and then the cross hanging down at the end it could be a reference to the Hanged Man tarot card or either Saint Peter being hanged in a reverse cross because he believed he was not worthy to be crucified like Jesus. (okay i'll only bring religious tones this once because Charlotte has a gothic church aesthetic going on) meaning that Charlotte at some point believed she was god? or something that's why she believed her ideal destruction or view of life or everything is justified that was until she met Minako. I mean look at Minako's glare at her and also who is the person that Charlotte was trying to reach out to in 1:01????
      I believe the "I'm Charlotte agent/enemy of god" thing that people are saying she said in the end meant she was probably her thinking of destroying Gyaruko who Minako reveres as her god???
      to be honest, I am not disagreeing with everyones agreed theory that Minako is crazy psycho murder girl but to me, that just seemingly seems too direct for an arg cuz args(but not all) most of the time are very complex and consists of uses of codes or imagery of some sort to make it a more complex connection in telling a story so I decided to share my own interpretation hoping that at least some people would also share their own spin or theory of the series besides the direct Minako crazy bitch theory.
      (but still I will stick to the main Minako is crazy psycho murder girl theory because it's the most direct one yet and also the one that can calm my head down from not getting a sickness because of waiting for the next video)
      With that said, i'm going to continue working on my fan translation of the lyrics.

    • @tuxen8145
      @tuxen8145 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@kara6923 That's a fair point- there's a possibility this video takes place over a fair bit of time, perhaps... Although, from this, I've come to the belief Minako was already doing awful things before Pochi died. After all, the implication of the ending is that Minako came to kill Charlotte, but Pochi was right by her side. Also, it shows Charlotte praying to a statue of Minako about halfway through, and in the very beginning of the video the statue shown behind her head in a split screen sort of fashion, 0:28, which would typically symbolize that being something that follows her in a sense -ergo Minako forcing Charlotte to be under her hand- something that wouldn't make too much sense unless the two already knew eachother.

    • @ihatemoths
      @ihatemoths 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      (Edit: I totally revised my whole idea after watching the video again.)
      So, I don’t think Charlotte witnessed Minako murder someone. I think it’s the other way around. I think Charlotte confided in Minako about her being abused (the eye poking) and Minako convinced her to kill them. Then after Charlotte does just that, Minako either blackmails her into doing her bidding or she just finds solace in being an accomplice.
      I think this way because the knife seems very symbolic; more than just a means to kill, but the idea to kill. After Charlotte kills that person, there’s no sadness just relief. Then she stands in front of that veiled statue figure once again (Minako) and once she touches the knife there’s a flash to something else.
      I think Minako and Charlotte share a bond because immediately after it cuts to what is another set of symbolism. This time it seems to be a murder spree. The house full of animals burning down and Charlotte stabbing someone with the ‘knife’ that Minako gave her. Due to the lyrics at the end and the cross falling into an upside down position, I think this is a sign for Charlotte.
      If the symbolism doesn’t represent a budding sense of resentment then my next guess would be something else entirely. I think those messages at the end was half directed at Minako and half directed at Pochi/Gyuraku. If Charlotte is an Agent of Minako, then she would of course be an enemy towards Gyuraku. If Charlotte is a fanatical believer of Minako and is as pious as she appears towards her, then anyone Minako has less than pure intentions for becomes a target.
      I think the entire Pink Bitch Club lives in their own fantasy and delusion of sorts, it’s not just Minako. Just appearance wise, it’s most evident in chuunibyou Charlotte and the robot-dressed girl. Gyuraku and Minako are less visually evident. Gyuraku is deluded into thinking Minako/ everyone is her friend whilst Minako is… just who she tries to be, living in an extravagant fantasy.

    Im no good theorist when it comes to complex stuff but i just had to drop my theory here. Lets start from Charlotte's family. During 0:51 we can kind of see hints about her family life. The first stained glass is two lovers embracing, the second is a father holding a newborn, i feel as if Charlotte had a close relationship with her father. The third stained glass if kind of unclear but i interpret it as candle wax falling onto an eye. This could be a possibility of how Charlotte lost her eye whether it'd be from a parental figure or herself as some sort of punishment. The fourth is a womanly figure, it could be her mom or minako but i am leading towards minako as the statues at 0:28 and 1:16 shows to be and the fifth glass stain being a person worshipping a statue which again could be Minako. It's obvious Charlotte worships Minako in some way and has some affection towards her. And then finally we have the sixth stained glass of the worshipper (Charlotte) recieving the sword from the Minako statue most likely. The woman on the left shoots a gun at the child (Charlotte) and the possible parental figure (her dad?). This woman could either be an older Charlotte as she "kills off" an old memory or Charlotte's mother getting jealous over Charlotte getting more attention from the father (weird ik but there are parents who are like that). There is also a hidden sentence (there are many of that i will talk about later) at 1:08 that translates to "Dad loves you/ More/ Than / Anything" (thanks to Misc Lee who translated it in the comments^^) Whichever it may be it's to be assumed the Charlotte did not have the best home life which causes her to 1.) Be a chuunibyou (chuunibyou means "8th grader disorder" and an example of this is basically kids who roleplay in real life and teens who cannot seperate fiction from reality) due to the possible exaggeration of Charlotte's music video compared to the other PBC videos and 2.) use religion as a form of escapism. Number 2 is obvious with the setting of the video being in a church and her wearing religious apparel. Her wearing white is a reference for purity and she is seen wearing white before Minako comes in to which i believe is either their first meeting or at least before the PBC. Where Minako comes into play, Charlotte could either be an accomplice or a witness forced into submission by Minako. I believe whatever bad situation Charlotte was in, Minako was somehow her "savior" and led her to kill many (possibly helping in Gyaruko's death but we dont know for sure) Minako is Charlotte's driving force especially for murder when we see her lightly graze her fingers on the statue Minako's knife on 1:17 which then cuts to Charlotte burning down a building with a bunch of animals. This is a reference to Noah's Ark. You can see two of each animal which in Noah's Ark he had to breed animals and put them on a ship. Jesus as well spoke to him through a flaming stick. I interpret this as Charlotte defying god in some way and feeling as if she is in higher in power. Possibly straying away from the true religion and devoting all of herself to Minako and her ideals (it could mean something else i am open to others opinion^^) and Charlotte's infatuation with Minako can be shown through the other hidden text at 0:16 (the goddess came down here) 1:23 (Love never changes or Love new I change) 1:28 (Wish, I'll give you my black heart). Charlotte in a sense losing herself and becoming more more tainted for Minako. There is also the voice at 1:21 that says "Yoranatai Ikasiana" and "Usonotedeiwadewotadashi" and when rearranged say "I only need you" and "Hold me with your arm" (their name is in another language but their comment is here so i just want to credit them for finding this thank you so much^^) and this further shows Charlotte's obsession with her treating Minako as a goddess. Finally the ending that says that she is "god's agent/adversary". This could either be Charlotte saying that about Minako or actually about god. She could be helping out Minako but the purity in her heart also despises it. I've kind of lost my train of thought while writing this but i hope this had made sense and if anyone would like to add or suggestion other ideas and theories i'd be glad to hear them :D

    Okay so this gave me a theory. I think someone mentioned before that Minako’s friends may be figments of her imagination, and I believe this backs up that Charlotte might be. The whole vibe of an old school movie and the fact that the plot is really different than many of the other animations (also that she’s the only non-Japanese name besides the robot girl), I predict Minako saw a movie about her and eventually just made her into a friend that she thinks she interacts with. Her personality seems to be pretty different here than what we’ve seen of Char, so it makes me think that’s what Minako’s interpretation of Char is (or maybe she subdued her personality because she wanted to be the crazy psycho killer lol)

      That would explain the word "picaresque" being mentioned in the song, since the adjective is characterized by a story with a dishonest hero(google). The "dishonest hero" could be Minako, since she's tricking herself into thinking these people are real; And Charlotte is just being self-aware of that.
      But, if we go by the alternate theory that Minako's friends are real, the picaresque part would also make sense... just in a different, more unsettling way.

      connecting this to some other theories and the themes in this video, minako might see herself very highly. Although minako knows she's wrong she's forming this god complex as a coping mechanism for her murder(s).

    My theory is Charlotte was an accomplice to Minako’s murder ( holding gun, crazed face ) and burned down the school to destroy the evidence. The themes of religion and an alter ego are present as she’s represented as two different entities, as well as her crying to a third entity presumably a god. Charlotte could’ve been manipulated by Minako to be an accomplice and the alter ego is metaphorical to show that she might’ve been a bad influence on her causing her to be a different person in her presence. It’s shown she’s crying to the god on her knees which either means she’s begging for forgiveness for assisting in the murders or it further shows that she didn’t want to do it in the first place but felt forced to
    this is probably a bad theory but that’s what i’m getting at here. if there’s any better theories bring them on

      @nemya237 2 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      I don't think so. Minako came after the events of burning church. I think Charlotte was already insane (cuz of her backstory ?) and in some circonstances, Minako knows that and she comes searching her into the church and influencing to come with her because she's "like her" ?

    • @MariaSantos-uo3pb
      @MariaSantos-uo3pb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      @@nemya237 Agreed- how I see it is that Charlotte has strived for innocence (see: stuffed animals) or just general saintly ideals only to give in and commit cruel acts for the fun of it. She tried to fight against her twisted nature, but couldn't, so collapsed in a chapel to grieve for failing to live up to said ideals. It's then that Minako finds her and sees her potential (her character alone seems appealing enough as its own "style" that she can then parasitically feed off of). Charlotte, having no other route to turn to, joins her. This ends up sealing her fate to damnation (abstract and literal) as seen by the cross now completely falling upside down.
      It also begs the question of what Minako was doing there in the first place; the chapel maybe shouldn't be taken so literally, so we can instead view it as Minako having met Charlotte at her low point.

    I think the reason Charlotte’s video is so different from everyone else’s so far is because Charlotte is a Chuunibyou. This is basically a Japanese term meaning “middle schooler syndrome” where a kid acts like they’re the “main character” of the world and with delusions of grandeur (which they usually grow out of by the time they go to highschool). A close American equivalent to this is probably the “I’m not like other girls” phase, only Chuunibyou is more gender neutral or (EDIT) a kid who thinks they’ve got special powers and are part wolf or something.
    Since this video is in Charlotte’s perspective, perhaps the style is so different because her aesthetic is so different to Minako and Gyaruko (who seem to into more modern fashion). Maybe that’s why this video has such blatant religious imagery and gothic aesthetics; it’s told through the perspective of a teenage girl who clearly uses her fashion to express herself, and plenty of teenage girls use gothic and punk themes to escape a harsh reality. I’m just wondering what she’s escaping from…

    someone mentioned that the runes at 1:08 translate to "dad loves you more than anything." everyone points out that the older woman at 0:51 up to 1:08 might be charlotte, but what if that's her mother? this could suggest charlotte's mother might have been jealous of charlotte in regards to charlotte's father and this scene could be showing her mother attempting to kill her and/or her father. this makes me think that charlotte might have killed her mother in vengeance but as devoted as she seems to be, this act naturally weighs on her as a sin as evidenced by her internal conflict as god's agent/adversary.
    working under the pretense that this is a prequel of sorts to the story, charlotte seems to worship minako because minako found her at her lowest, after charlotte has already commited her sin, and basically all but manipulated her into believing that the act was justified. or, she could have blackmailed her into being her friend.
    as for whether charlotte actually exists or not...i think she does. she's just a chuunibyou and the gothic imagery is nothing more than symbolic at the end of the day. however, i honestly think that eyepatch could be hiding a real injury, courtesy of her mother if she DID indeed attempt to kill charlotte.

    theory: in the Middle Ages there were people with red eyes who were mostly sheep. The church believed that the red-eyed were demons, so they sent them to kill them -That's why we see that in one of the scenes a woman shoots Charlotte, who then comes out with a patch
    Charlotte got angry at the church, so I burned her, but she felt sorry that she was a believer, and that's why we see her cry. Then, we see that Minako enters the church (which is before the church burns down) which surely went to pray, at that moment he meets Charlotte and they become friends.
    Minako tells him that it was unfair for the church to treat the red-eyed like this. Minako's words make Charlotte angry and burn down the church.
    Then Charlotte enters Minako's club where she meets other girls and they become friends.

    개인적인 해석입니다!
    샬럿즉 샤를로트의 이름뜻은 '자유' ,'자유로운자'입니다.
    이 이름의 뜻의 시점에서 앞부분의 0:02에서 샤를로트는 새장비슷한 곳의 갇혀있슴. 아마 자유를 꿈꾸는 것처럼 보임
    0:31에서는 샤를로트는 "이뤄지지 않을 기도를 몸에 품고서
    무릎을 꿇고서 신을 찾는다"라고 하는데 아마 자신이 원하는
    자유를 찾음 0:41 에서도 "데리고 나가줘 "라는 말을 하는데
    어딘가에 갇혀 있는듯한 뜻의 말임 후에
    0:52 에서는 샤를로트가 과거의 자신의 모습을 보는듯한
    모습이 나오는데 1:01 을보면 어린 샤를로트가 누군가에게
    안기는 듯한 모습을 보아 자신의 자유를 가둬버린 사람과의
    만남인듯 1:05 에서는 성장한 샤를로트가 "종말" 이라고 말하며
    총을 쥐고 무언가를 죽이는 모습이 보임(아마 과거의 자신의
    자유를 가둬버린 사람을 쐈거나 자신의 선택을 후회하는 모습임)
    넘어가서 1:06에서는 샤를로트가 손을 높게 뻗고 찾양하는
    모습과 1:19 에서는 미나코를 닮은 듯한 석상이 칼을 밑으로한채
    눈을 감고있음. 한가지 추측이지만 보통의 석상은 칼을 위로들지, 아래로 들진 않음 아마 이것 또한 뭔가가 있을듯
    1:20 에서는 샤를로트가 미나코가 아래로 쥔 칼을 쓰다듬는데,
    아마 이표현은 미나코의 신념을 닮아가고싶다, 즉 미나코를 숭배하고 성스럽게 여기는 것같음
    그리고 1:25 가 되어 커다란 저택 (성당)같은게 타고있는듯 한데,
    1:28 에서부터 수녀의 모습을 한 샤를로트와 성녀나 영애의
    모습을 한 샤를로트가 빛대어 보여짐
    이로써 샤를로트는 자유를 꿈꿨지만 어떠힌 이유에 저택(성당)에
    발을 묶여 이곳에 있었지만 자신의 신념인 미나코를 만나고
    저택을 불태운듯 (미나코가 무슨 짓을 했는지는 알순 없지만
    그게 좋은 영향은 아닌것같다)
    그후 1:40 을 보아 미나코가 다 타버린 저택(성당?)을 미나코가 문을 열고 1:46 에 쓰러져있는 샤를로트를 보고
    1:48 묵묵히 서있음
    마지막 장면인 1:49 에서는 초반 0:21 에서는 운명의 종이 울렸다고 했음 정리 해보자면 극 초반 0:10 에 나온
    "에린지움의 화원"에서 하염없이 헤매던 어둠속 1:01 에서의
    사람을 만나 저택(성당) 애 갇혀 크게 되고 미나코를 만나
    복수를 다짐해 불태움으로써 십자가는 위에서 아래로 떨어진듯
    마지막인 샬럿의 대사는 " 내 이름은 샬럿. 그 역할은 신의
    대리인(대적자)" 라고 말함 결국엔 샬럿은 미나코의 대리인
    즉 미나코의 일을 대신하는 사람임을 알수있음
    샬롯의 시점에서는
    신=미나코
    개인적인 해석이라 틀릴수도 있어요ㅜㅜ 이댓이 묻히지만 않길..

    일단 걍 추측이라 허술한 근거들이지만 이건 샤를로테의 과거 이야기인것 같음
    1. 샤를은 저택 또는 성당에서 갇혀 살았음.
    - 처음부터 '신도 보지못하는' 에린지움의 정원에서 살았다는 표현과 새장 안에 갇힌 샤를의 실루엣을 보면 샤를은 저택 밖의 세상을 보지 못한, 철저히 고립 된 삶을 살아왔음
    그 고립을 '스스로' 원해서 한것인지 아님 '누군가'에 의해 당한건지 의문점이었지만 이 부분은 3번에서 후술함
    2. 샤를이 어떤 남자에게 달려가는걸 백발 여자가 지켜보는 장면
    - 처음엔 샤를이 저택 안에서 어떤 남자와 밀회를 즐기고 그걸 뒤에서 지켜보는 백발의 여인은 과거, 또는 미래의 샤를, 심지어는 '신' 인줄 알았음
    정신적인 의미의 장면인가 싶었는데 곰곰히 생각해보면 저곳은 샤를의 집임
    저기가 성당인지 저택인지는 모르겠는데 아무튼 저 곳은 샤를이 살고 있는 집이고 집에는 '가족'이 사는게 당연한 수순임
    만약 저 남자와 여자가 '가족'이라면 왜 3명이 모두 백발인지, 왜 2명의 체구가 샤를에 비해 큰 지가 설명이 됨
    즉 총을 쏘는 백발의 여성은 샤를의 엄마일것이고 백발의 남자는 샤를의 아빠일것임
    3. 왜 엄마는 아빠를 죽였나
    - 그냥 추측이라 확실한 근거는 없지만 비비노스님이 보여주는 사랑은 보통 '어긋난 질척거림'임
    이번엔 이 질척이는 병든 사랑의 피해자가 '샤를' 인것같음
    1번의 의문점이였던게 여기서 풀리는데 이게 무슨 말이냐면 샤를이 갇혀 산 이유에 크게 관여한 자는 다름아닌 '엄마'임
    엄마는 샤를을 저택밖으로 나가지 못하게 저택이라는 새장 안에 가둬 사랑했고 온전히 자신의 '소유물'로 보았기에 샤를은 엄마로 인해 고립을 당한 상태였음
    엄마는 샤를을 너무 사랑하고 집착했기에 샤를의 사랑도 온전히 자신만을 향해 있어야 된다고 생각함 근데 샤를이 아빠도 사랑하네? 그럼 안되지, 넌 내껀데. 빵야빵야
    (걍 추측임 샤를이 아빠를 이성적인 의미로 사랑했을수도 있고 혹시 엄마가 마피아보스인거 아닌거냐는 말도 나옴)
    4. 샤를이 말하는 '신'의 정체
    - 물론 엄마임. 갇혀 산 샤를의 세상은 '엄마' 그 자체임. 애초에 그렇게 교육 시켰을거고 '엄마'가 만들어준 세상이란말임
    근데 그 '신'이 사랑하는 아버지를 죽이는걸 바로 면전에서 목격함
    이로인해 샤를 또한 돌아버림. 그리고 자신이 그저 '엄마의 병든 사랑을 받아내는 소유물' 일 뿐 이란걸 알아채는 순간이였을거고.
    그래서 샤를은 집을 불태움. 인형이 불 탈 때 나오는 로마어? 어느 나라 말인줄도 모르겠음 암튼 그 말이 뭔 말인지는 모르겠지만 인형이 불타는 장면은 자신이 인형이나 마찬가지인 '소유물' 에서 벗어난다는 연출인것같음
    그렇게 엄마고 집이고 뭐든 불태워 버린 샤를이 신의 '대리인(유일한 소유물이자 딸)/대적자(아빠를 죽인 복수)' 라고 한 이유도 설명이 되는것같고...
    암튼 확실한건 하나도 모르겠지만 테마는 '가족'이고 이번에도 병든 사랑이 들어있는듯ㅋㅋ

    Great work as always Vivinos!
    Okay, theory time:
    The man shown in the video is Charlotte's father, who's probably a priest(?). Before Charlotte was born, the priest had an affair with a woman (as shown in the church's windows), but priests are not allowed to had any romantic/sexual relationships with anyone, so maybe people looked down on the priest because of this (many comments that had translated the lyrics keep mentioning someting about "losing wings" which can mean a person with good reputation has been caught doing something bad). The mother may had died/ran away and the priest has to take care of Charlotte himself. I think Charlotte grew up being ridiculed by people around her, so she prays to God so people can stop ridiculing her and her father, but it was unfulfilled (as mentioned in the lyric translations). Charlotte then grew to hate people and stopped believing in God, but her father still wants believes in them as he is a strong believer of God, so she pretends to be a pure child who believes in God while keeping her feelings to herself (The very first scene where Charlotte is in a cage can symbolize how she feels trapped in her religion) . At the end of the video, we see Minako discovering Charlotte in a vulnerable state on the ground, Minako may have manipulated Charlotte to rebel against God (the cross going upside down means it's a devil's cross), by killing her father. That also explains the scene where Charlotte was worshipping a girl with dagger (I'm not really sure if the girl with a dagger is Minako, but a lot of comments says she is), Charlotte's face look relieved(?) as she was worshipping Minako, because for her, she finally found the solution to her suffering. When Charlotte met up with her father, she killed him with a gun. The animals in the video symbolizes the people who have ridiculed her (maybe her father was having a mass with them before she killed him), she then burned down the church while the people (animals) were inside. The end.
    Edit: Also! On 1:28 her face keeps switching between her nun and pure self, she's probably conflicted at that time and is regretting her actions.

    Normally I don't post my theory but I've yet to see anyone with a theory that aligns with mine so here it is:
    The video focuses on Charlotte's upbringing. Her mother disappeared when she was younger, and she was left to be raised by her father. This is indicated by the sequence of the stained glass window, the first one showing a couple, and the second one showing a lone man holding a baby. To cope with his loneliness, his father turned to religion, and Charlotte grew up in a heavily religious environment. This is indicated by the next window being of a church. The religion in specific is Catholicism, which holds reverence around maternal figures (The Virgin Mary) and killing for the sake of one's devotion to God (Abraham and Isaac). As Charlotte grew up, she became especially attached to the reverence of maternal figures due to her own mother's absence, indicated by the stained window of Charlotte reaching for a statue of a holy woman, along with the many animated shots of her and a statue of a holy woman. One day, her mother returned, only to shoot and kill her father, the mother being the older woman who fired a gun in the direction of the man after the sequence of windows. Due to Charlotte's upbringing giving her a reverence towards maternal figures, and how her mother returned like an angel of death to bestow the divine justice of killing her father for reasons unknown to her, Charlotte quickly decided to follow in her footsteps and destroyed the rest of the church, interpreting her mother's kill as condemnation of the holy site. As she was only a child and her father had been killed and her mother having left right after killing him, she was moved to an orphanage. This is where Minako met her.

    • @ohworm3c413
      @ohworm3c413 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Another thing I thought was interesting was that the video switches between depicting Charlotte in nun clothes, her hair in a bun, and wearing an eyepatch, and Charlotte in a long white nightgown, her hair loose, and her eyes visible. She looks strikingly similar to her mother in her loose hair and nightgown, and similar to an angel. When one is raised so deeply in Catholicism, one wishes to be as holy as they can be, like an angel. And with her mother's quick violence, she seemed like an angel of death.

    Its like shes collecting friends to heal her pain but then when the time comes where they MIGHT leave she breaks and forces them to stay together with her as one.
    This could take place much before she killed them all.

    my personal take: charlotte seems to have had a difficult home life, with her mother dead and her father abusive. She seems to have used religion as a crux, as well as a means of escapism, praying to god for “forgiveness of her sins” that may have been simply things her father had done to her and they “evil” way it made her want to react.
    the lyrics and imagery seem to denote a duality within herself, between the “angel” she feels she must/hopes to be and the “devil” (pictured as a nun) she wants/feels she also has to become if she is to be free.
    the scene of charlotte in the church shows several stain glass windows, showing her progression from being abused(perhaps even in her getting an aye gouged) to finally being “tempted” to retaliate.
    because minako seems to have found charlotte when she’s still in white, my guess is she hadn’t yet killed her father at that point. her desire for a savior manifested in minako, and minako was a god and savior who didn’t care if charlotte became a ‘fallen angel’ and “removed her wings”, in fact she encouraged it.
    charlotte kills her father, and minako’s grasp as her deliverer becomes further cemented in her mind, causing her to do whatever her ‘god’ asks of her. my guess is minako prompted/forced charlotte to commit more and more murders until the “angel” she had once been was gone completely.

      @@Marylov941 the scene with the stained glass windows depicts a few different scenes. first with two people, then a man and a baby, an eye(maybe being gouged). we see an older charlotte watching a younger charlotte run happily towards an older figure. based on the stained glass, it’s most likely her father. an older charlotte is then seen taking out a gun and shooting directly towards either the actual person, or the memory, effectively killing the notion that this moment or person was anything worth looking back on as happy. whether a gun or a knife was the method of killing, it seems most likely due to minako’s influence based on the remaining stained glass depictions.

    I wonder, if you take the theory that Charlotte is not real, that this might be a hint to Minako's life but instead of being the victim, she's made herself the hero of the story

    This is different from Vivinos's other videos. It kind of felt like an anime opening, both in song and animation. I always love how the jaw seems to move when a character is speaking, because it makes it look more natural, though that didn't happen to much in this animation, so that's another reason why I think there was an intention to make it like an anime opening. There were a lot of other things that were similar to an opening, like the red and white part, the descending shots, and the style of music. This was an interesting change! I loved it! While I favor the feeling of previous videos/animations, I am in no way saying that this falls short or is inferior.

    When it comes to Charlotte I feel as though either she was mentally ill making her unpopular or isolated and taken advantaged of or 'saved' by Minako , or maybe actually was a church goer and may have been assaulted by her mother as she's seen to be shot by an older woman.
    Main Theory 1: Minako visits an outcast (who's maybe shunned for having Chūnibyō) befriending her and slowly manipulating her to do deeds for her under the guise of friendship and later her fame and gratefulness for Minako dragging her out of obscurity. Slowly manipulating her into doing worse and worse things.
    Main Theory 2: This is a bit out there but the woman looks almost exactly like her, but in every scene following that Charlotte now has the eye patch. I think she maybe or didn't shoot (The eyepatch would be to cover up physical damage) her daughter after Charlette 'betrays' her.
    Theory 1: Either she kills her father. I'm not sure if she really did or not. But what I am sure of is that Charlotte's mother allows her to be given to the (or even sexually assaulted by) Father of the church or by her own Father. This is shown at 2:06 where Charlette runs into another man's arm's before being shot. Also In the hidden messages written in Younger Futhark runes. The 'Love never changes' could be hinting at the abusive relationship between the two.
    Theory 2: Charlotte being young fell in love lost her 'purity' if you catch my drift. This enraged her mother who is extremely religious and cause her to take it out on her daughter.
    Either way Charlotte becomes 'unpure' (noted via the change from a pure white version and one dressed in black with the eyepatch). Her mother takes it out on her and either actually gets rid of her eye, or causes a scar there that Charlotte either way hides. I also believe she may have burnt down the church after this incident her stuffed animals may signify her burning or tossing aside the idea or even her own purity, showing how tainted she's become. Meeting Minako after who begins to manipulate Charlotte into thinking she's fixing her. Causing Charlotte to be a devotee towards Minako.

    I have no idea what’s going on, but damn is it beautiful to listen and look at.
    I’m guessing this is a anime opening for Charlotte ( if this is even connected to bitch club, which I think it is)
    Which makes me have the theory that all of the characters from bitch club are from a different genre of anime. Expect maybe Gyru (was that her name i don’t remember) but she could also be from a different genre as well. Idk tho that’s just a theory.
