    My favorite comedian of all time! As someone who has struggled with OCD their whole life, her stories always make me feel not so alone and like someone understands what it's like in my head. They say that most brilliant people probably have some sort of disorder because they don't think like most people. Maria is proof of that. She may have her issues....but she is a total GENIUS in my opinion. ❤❤❤

    • @nanwilder2853
      @nanwilder2853 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well DUH, brainiac.
      Aren’t we all “proof” of something?
      (The C in my OCD is very clench-y right now, so don’t fret, Mr. Beats.)
      Happy Holidays, December 2024, and “Ho, Ho, Ho!” to all, unless you prefer
      (like moi) “Bah Humbug!”

    I have suffered from intrusive thoughts, particularly in my mid 20s through 30s, and hearing about Maria's experience de-stigmatized it for me. I loved her for her comedy long before she came out with her mental health journey and became not only hilarious, but a caring wise woman in her times.

    I thought I was far enough into my recovery to not have any more “oh thank god that’s not just me” moments, but “maybe you’re just tricking everyone into thinking you’re a lesbian and actually you’re straight” really got me. 😂 It’s wild how as soon as you realize you’re actually gay and your OCD was onto something with that one, all the “oh no, what if I’m gay” thoughts just instantly, seamlessly transform into “oh no, what if I’m straight”.

  • @segamai
    @segamai ปีที่แล้ว +14

    This is so, so important. The intrusive thoughts she mentions are *specifically* brought on because they are the *worst* thing you can imagine, and the *last* thing you’d ever actually want to do. But your brain is disordered for X reason and just goes “But are you sure” over, and over, and over again

    • @holyworrier
      @holyworrier ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wish you peace of mind.

      @segamai ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@holyworrier Thank you! Luckily (a relative term, of course), they happened only episodically in my life. I mean.. They could sometimes last years lol, but it's the internet resources and people like Maria who made me realise what I said in my comment above.
      For me it's all anxiety-based and I've made peace with a good chunk already, and I hope that with my current therapy we can unpeal the rest of that onion. Have a nice day!

As a Christian with OCD I didn't agree with everything she shared but can totally agree that there has been a LOT of hurt done by religious groups over the years that have no formal training in therapy. Especially traumatic for those with scrupulosity/religiosity OCD.

      Truly. The US is the only so-called "developed" country without nationalized healthcare. This is because insurance corporations and big pharma are permitted to lobby (and pay for) our elected officials. We are made to contribute via our taxes to nationalized healthcare in Israel, however (among other activities). It's mind-boggling.
