- This is the launch of our new channel and our first review is the mighty INEOS Grenadier Trialmaster Edition 3.0L Turbo Petrol. Starting at Vaalplasie we give it a walk around, chat to the owner and then give it a beat down (4x4 action starts at 18m30) at our favorite local 4x4 track (Berakah Eco Trails). If You are in the market for a new Land Rover Defender or Toyota Land Cruiser 300 I suggest you watch this first as we made some pretty decent discoveries while driving this thing.

Nice to see a proper off-road test of this "big girl" and now I want one even more, great video, thanks!
Glad you liked it! We also want one badly!!!!!
Nice first video! (On this channel at least)
Subscribed and looking forward to more.
If I may mention, it's not Trailmaster but Trialmaster! Sensitive issue to some! 😄😄
I belief a 2-3 inch (50-75mm) lift will be adequate instead of your mentioned 100-150mm!!
That will obviously allow for bigger tyres to be fitted to increase lift.
Either way, nice presentation and good luck with the many more to come! 🍻
Thank You for the comment, hopefully we will get a hold of one with a lift kit sometime in the future so we can compare!! The type O has been edited, Thanx!!
"TRIALMASTER!!" Grenadier marketing team should have seen that one coming. "Trailmaster" just seems the more logical name!
Yeah Thanx!! One of our better type O's..........It has been edited thanx!
Sir Jim Radcliffe also owns the legendary Belstaff company that produces motorcycle jackets. The and Fieldmaster versions of the Grenadier are named after models of these Belstaff jackets. In Australia you also did get a jacket included if you ordered each of the vehicles.
What a great video and off-road test of the Grenadier. Please more of those content!
There are currently a few lift kits available for the INEOS Grenadier:
1) Eibach: +35mm (springs only)
2) LeTech: +40mm (springs only or springs plus shocks), springs/shocks from Reiger/KW Suspension
3) Taubenreuther/Offroad24: +45mm front/+40-50mm rear (springs and shocks), shocks are KONI Heavy Track RAID
Tested tire sizes 285/70R17 and 285/75R17 works even w/o a lift.
Thanx!! We are busy working on more vids that should be online in Dec!!
Lot of balls going over those logs
I didn't realize the Grenadier was that wide............it was close, but safety is always our first concern.
One of the best offroad reviews. Was waiting for some Africaans to drive it and tell us what they think about it. Love your offraod track / test ground. Has some very realistic features.
Thank You very much!! Berakha certainly is a fantastic testing ground, at some point we will go do the top loop and film it, but that is as serious as it gets!!! Welcome to the channel!
It’s good to see what it is capable of in standard trim probably more than most people will ever do. Great review 👍🏻🇬🇧
It is supremely capable, we were really impressed!! Thanx for the feedback!!
@@TheMotoringShow-ly5yi Ineos was quite impressive offroad for a big heavy vehicle, looked very rugged underneath as did the G Wagen but the underside of the Jimny looked rather flimsy especially those radius arm mounts, on my Land Rovers the mounts didn't come past the bottom of the chassis rails.
Thank you, one of the best videos out there of the Grenadier review.
Wow, thanks! Really enjoyed the vehicle!! We should drop n new vid this week with the new Jimny 5 door as well!!
BTW there is a dip stick on the car. If you stand in front of the engine bay at the right hand side down at the back plate of the engine bay.
Would be interesting to hear more comparisons with the G professional lwb (461) ....
We have reached out to Merc..........lets see what happens!!!!
Great footage of great people and great landscape in a great car ❤. Super nice video.
Appreciate the comment!! We are shooting our next vid this weekend!!
Awesome video guys...this will be the toughest off-road tracks I've seen the Grenadier videod on...nicely done. Enjoy Roger
That was the plan!!! That thing is amazing!!!!
A very entertaining and helpful video. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, love the South African people
Thank You!!!
Looks like a great day out and a great test!
This is exactly what we like to do!!!
Lov the clear shots of in cab well done, good coverage and informative
Thanx!!! We are shooting more content this December!!
Great video! My Ineos dealer notified me that my Grenadier order (USA customer) goes into production in March of 2024. I expect delivery sometime around May. I feel good that the truck has been in production for around a year and the most of the new car teething issues have been ironed out by now.
Awesome!!! You are going to love it!!!!
Fantastic Video gents! quite the machine, surprised no one is talking about that 1.4 million rand starting price, the question is, does it have enough to justify that kind of debt.
Thanx!! With specked Land Cruiser 300 and Defender Prices popping over into R2mil land this segment is for the people who don't have debt.......We were just lucky enough to get to drive it!!!!
awesome video!
Thanks!
Great video - thanks!! I have one on order 🙏🏻😎
AWESOME!!!!! You are going to LOVE it!!!!! What model/spec have You ordered??
Trialmaster. Scottish white. Half roof rack and safari windows. Winch. And just about every accessory they offer! 😊
Oh and petrol engine - that’s all that’s offered in US. But I’m ok with that.
Rock sliders instead of steps.
Cloth seats. Just bummed they darkened the cloth color from the original.
offroad starts @18:50
Nice review 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great Video !
Thanx!
lift kit or ability to put bigger tires would benefit the offroad abilities of the already capable grenadier in my opinion. To me the small tires is the only real drawback.
loved the man made obstacle for checking hill descent control abilities.
nice to see a G wagon and a grenadier doing the same obstacles as well.
thanks for the video. Great commentary about the pros and cons of the vehicle.
If im not mistaken looks like he has side steps not true rock sliders, switching to true rock sliders would benefit the clearance as well.
I like the overall aesthetics and functionality of the grenadier a lot.
that trail looked fun.
Thanx for the comment!! The side steps are quite beefy and took a beating without showing any signs of collapsing........and yes, that trail is fun. We will be doing the top section soon which is MUCH more terrifying soon.
look forward to watching the outcome and the further review@@TheMotoringShow-ly5yi
It's Trialmaster not Trailmaster, although after your go at it, perhaps Trailmaster is fitting too.
We will be submitting our name change
to INEOS in writing..........LOL
rocking with transmission error msg...just like an land rover product...
It did pop up intermittently, but we had no problems with it.
Eibach who make the original springs are making a lift kit.
That is EPIC news!!
@@TheMotoringShow-ly5yi Not only is it epic but they have 2 sets one for winch one without uses original shocks too.
Awesome to see them developing future kit for this machine!!!!
Does it have a manual mode in low range so you can be like only in third or only in second or only in 4th from a dead stop? I know the discovery 2 had it 20 years ago and I love it cruising around in 3rd come to a stop in mud or sand and take off with a torque reduction like that. Most automatics you just put it in first or you have it in Drive in the gear you select only limited to that gear doesn't actually place you in it. Wondering if it actually has manual mode for low range if it doesn't that's a huge disadvantage because locking in low range gears like second and third is a huge Plus. It's not just convenient
It did allow us to pull off in 1st or 2nd gear in "manual" mode from a standstill, didn't try 3rd gear. The gearbox is super smooth and responsive in all modes, pretty sure that they will have no complaints in that area of the car.
Great review. However on the “stock” and Fieldmaster trim levels the secondary battery is an option, not included. On the Trialmaster trim it IS included.
Second battery seems like an excellent idea.
The Trialmaster (or Trailmaster in our case LOL) has a very decent spec. We were really impressed at ita "overlanding" capability straight from the showroom floor. The more upscale models absolutely warrant the addition cost!!
Rodger ran a 60L fridge on a trip and it coped perfectly!! An absolute must if You are going to run a fridge.
I've ordered the 2024 Landcruiser,
We would love to review that at some stage, pretty sure many of us would like to see it on the trails!
Turn off the music....but great video!
Great Video - none of the usual marketing hype ! Not much place under it for another tank which is disappointing and the front steering damper is very low but i am sure someone will work something out - switches all look cool but a bit of customer feedback could have made them a lot more useful - switches at the top are very difficult to read especially when you are off road - the placement of water bottles and phones is not good - almost zero and the USB placement is bad - you could have satisfied the marketing and still created a panel or something to hide phones , GPS , radio , and at least some multiple charge points - the steering takes a while to get used to but its actually ok on and off road - turning circle is quite poor as you say but vision in the mirrors is good so that helps for parking - my FAVORITE gripe , the reversing camera is woeful - its not actually that big in the back ( Defender much better ) and its quite hard to pack because nothing is square - it could easily have been 250 mm longer at the rear ( from the wheelbase back ) without compromising the break over angle too much - the rear seat mechanism is not well thought out and the safety belt placement in the bottom of the seat will not last too long opening and closing them - the jury is still out on the electronics and what the failure modes will be and how that will effect the reliability but we shall see - OK finally is it a good car ( even with its compromises ) - actually its a great car ! It drives very well on road and in actual fact its my choice in heavy traffic because its so smooth and easy to see out - its significant off road and offers much more than most mere mortals will ever use - no its not a Defender but its actually way better - if it proves to be reliable its going to be the go to vehicle for off roader's
Some serious insight there!!! Thanx for the comment!! Our aim was really to get in it and see what's what........really cool to hear from someone that has actually spent some time in one.
BrownDavis in Oz already has an auxiliary tank on offer. It replaces the rear silencer and offers 68 additional liters of fuel. Additionally you could hang a 20 l canister on one of the doors on each side.
Nice practical view of the vehicle just like everyday users will experience. All looks ready to go just a pity about that lowish clearance
THANX!!! Look, we did take it where 99% of owners won't even consider going......so our comments are really aimed at the small percentage of owners that are REALLY going to take it all the way......the ground clearance is not "bad", it could just do with a bit more. I believe Eibach (who make the OEM set) are busy developing a lift kit that will be available soon.
“Almost think your in a Cessna”?
My 310 has less switches
What??? I thought Fig was being conservative when he mentioned the switchgear........LOL!! We do have some old school reviews coming as well, with virtually no switch gear.......
Nice, I still can't decide ...Toyota Land Cruiser 2024 , or a 70 series or Ineos Grenadier Fieldmaster 😌?
That is going to be a tough one, but I think the 300 and Grenadier are in a class of their own, and I can highly recommend You go drive a Grenadier before You make any decisions!!!
Love it, but give me a Geländewagen rather
We will be doing a old School G-Wagon review in a couple of weeks........
At 20min it better make it being a brand new off-roader with Lockers in solid axles LOL my 20-year-old disco on 33 with only traction control can do that
Hehe, the camera never does these things justice, but I can assure You that section is no joke, 33s and traction control should get You up there, but lockers will always be our first choice for hardcore 4x4 routes like Berakah.
Those aren't rock sliders but side steps. @28.30
If he was worried about MPG he should have taken the diesel engine.
I can't wait to test a Diesel!! We have reached out to INEOS..........
Se questo voi lo chiamate fuoristrada! Con una panda 4x4 faccio molto di più 🤔
You keep saying a 100 or 150mm lift, which is MASSIVE. Did you mean 25 or 50 mm? a 100 mm lift would be appropriate for 37 inch tires
The Grenadier really sits low to the ground for what the drivetrain is capable of, most noticeably the fuel tank (bash plate) being the first to make contact. I've seen in the comment section that there are already products being developed (in conjunction with the manufacturer) to offer lift kits, lt will be interesting to see how much the professionals think the lift should be. Will drop a comment as soon as I get more info.
Your very first graphics are incorrect. It’s called a Trialmaster NOT a Trailmaster 🙄
That is NOT a 950Ah battery. No way. It’s got a 950A max current draw (would be CCA). It’s 105Ah.
Can’t turn the fan down by just turning the fan down - have to turn off auto first. Lame.
I notice no indicating while passing the tractor. And not wearing a seatbelt at one point too.
A lift does not increase the ground clearance on a solid axle vehicle even 1mm. It only improves the approach and departure angles, and may improve the rampover angle. The diff pumpkins limit the ground clearance so only larger tyres/wheels will improve this.
You CAN deactivate the diff locks without driving around (they unlock) but the system can’t detect it and turn off the light without driving around so the they can unlock but you can’t activate HDC until the system can detect they are unlocked. That’s the problem.
what happened to the Diesel ? All of those who ordered a Grenadier ordered a Diesel; and we speak of UK, F, D, CH,I.....not even AUS orZA ??
We are trying to get our hands on a Diesel, would love to compare the two.
The diesel engine is an available option in ALL global markets except for North America where they can only buy the petrol engine.
For goodness sake ditch the music!
We have to use it unfortunately, in the absence of pro recording equipment the wind and background noise is so bad we have to overlay it with music....and if we could choose differently, we would, but we are stuck with copyright exempt libraries that are most likely only going to get worse when Ai starts making it.........
2 minutes in he can't find the dipstick and hates the mileage.
I'd say he's clueless.
The BMW derived motor actually does not have a dipstick and rather relies on a kind of "self test" system to measure oil levels, unconventional in off road vehicles in Africa. At the current South African fuel prices the consumption of any vehicle is always a talking point in our local circles.........
@@TheMotoringShow-ly5yi blah blah...you started Y.T. 2 weeks ago? Chose an impressive name? Only 1 video but gonna milk it with a Golden Ineos?
Gorcha.
@@TheMotoringShow-ly5yi Make a real off-road video of an Ineos?
Don't tease with poser videos. Seems like you can't do it? Your channel ends with this guy's video?
@@TheMotoringShow-ly5yi In other videos I've seen they show you where the dipstick is, really hard to find at the back of the engine compartment and low down, difficult to get to but it is there.
Delete music please please
At least it’s not douchey ghetto rap crap.
My Grenadier is currently the subject of an endurance test.
Both the Ineos dealer and Ineos technical are trying to establish how long I can endure not having the vehicle I paid for - whilst they fail to fix a fault with the cabin heater/ aircon.
So far I have not seen the vehicle for 5 weeks - and they still don't have a scooby how to fix the fault.
But why should they care - I have paid in full.
That is sad to hear, the air con in the vehicle we tested had no problem dealing with the 37deg outside temps. I do suspect that fault finding and service levels will get better in time as the dealer network expands and more Grenadiers hit the road. What exactly is the problem You are experiencing with the heater /AC unit?
