Point of Order: I hate to do this to you, but platypuses are not marsupials, but monotremes. They have no pouch. Therefore, they do not apply to this debate over which marsupial should be put into a car seat. However, I look forward to the sequel debate on which monotreme should be put into a car seat. (There are only 5 species- 4 echidnas and the platypus.)

I don't think this disqualifies then from being part of the debate - more that the strongest argument is probably that they should be placed last.

If you don't specify the age, Kangaroos are actually perfect little angels as babies and teens. I've seen old ladies carrying around young kangaroos in bags. They become placid in any sort of dark, pouch-like place. And they actually are eager to go back in even when they are old - it is only the harsh cruelty of nature that forces them to stay in this brutal outside world. I've seen large joeys get startled by something, and try to crawl back into mother's pouch even though they are much too large. She has to sort of paw them away. Sad!
I'm sure they'd love it if you put them in a soft, padded baby seat and could close the lid or something to make it dark. They yearn for infantilisation and neoteny, and honestly I can understand where they are coming from. I would let them ride in my car because I can sympathize with their desire for a second childhood. Kangaroos are therefore one of the better choices for Marsupial passenger seat participants, because they let us fulfill our own wishes, if only by proxy.

This is a heartfelt and empathic response, and an important contribution to the debate. My sole hesitancy is what will happen as those kangaroos grow. Will we have made them so accustomed to car seats that we have to fundamentally restructure the standard car seat, so as to allow for adult kangaroos? There may be more kangaroos than car seats in Australia. It's a ticking time bomb.

You'd need it to be pliant.
