    Thank you.. thank you... Thank you.... You guide is by far the best!!!! Building the larger Garden homes lets you focus on taking your time to build UP your village. The amount of food that each house produces is amazing.
    I would suggest building a little market squares.. 3 market tents and 1 SMALL Grainery to hold all the food bought from each home then you can make the each market tent sell the items you have with each tent offering the item with the highest stock item available(PEAS or BEATROOTS) and 1 with the rarest stocked item available....

      You are most welcome! I've put a lot of effort into making this guide, so I'm glad it works!
      Your suggestion sounds interesting. Although I would always go for the large granary. It can store 20000 units were the smaller one can only store 10000. and the big one will only cost 2000 wood and 40 nails more (and wood is free) so not much extra cost. It also has 2 extra storages slots!

    This is a very detailed video, it shows a lot of time and dedication invested in this game. Your English sounds very good, even though it's drenched in a thick layer of Dutch. You've spend a lot of time in the discovery of all the facts and numbers in this video, and I thank you for that. I too, have spend many hours playing Ostriv, and I believe your numbers and facts are correct. One detail though: if you build a field of 25x50, you will always have 1250 units, whatever plant you grow. That is, only if your field is placed on a flat and even surface. Even the slightest slope in the terrain will cause less plants could be grown. Groeten uit Ommen

    • @PatmosIV
      @PatmosIV  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much for your kind words! It was indeed quite the works and testing and experimenting to get all the info for this video, but it was also a lot of fun and I learned a lot from it too!
      Your are almost correct with your detail, but the 1250 units you refer to is not the amount you can grow and harvest. Its the amount of "land units" used when construction the field. Or basically the amount of ground units it covers. There is a difference between the ground units and the yield you get from a field. So you could get between 1500-2000 potatoes for instance from a 1250 ground units field. (depending on how fast its sown in)
      There are also different yields for instance if you grow flax or hemp on the same field, they will still give a different yield. But all of these things might still get tweaked later. So hope this video will remain usable for a very long time!

    Very useful. Thanks. I believe that fishing docks now need to be separated to spread out the areas being fished. I accidentally blocked the river with a Fulling Mill and wondered why my fishing boats were not getting repaired. Built a second shipyard on the other side. Also had to move the trading dock. I try to graze the cattle and sheep in fallow fields but provide a small pasture just in case as I have found my field sequences changing without my knowledge or approval! I wish that unused pastures could produce hay. I am surprised that pigs cannot contribute hides to be tanned when slaughtered as their leather is very common. I hope that you have a video on pricing (I'm off to look now) or, if not, that you do one.

    • @PatmosIV
      @PatmosIV  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You are very welcome! You are right about the fishing. Although the boats will find the fish themselves. It might just save some time when spreading them out, so they don't have to row far for fish.
      You have to be careful with blocking the river! Very true! Luckily just making a few new buildings fixes everything!
      The game is still heavy in development, so maybe some of your suggestions will find their way in at some point! You make some valid points. The game is heavy on historical accuracy so could well be that some things don't make it in, since they were not historically accurate for that place at that time!
      I'm working on a video about the whole economy in Ostriv, to explain how it works and help get a base setup that works in most instances that can help people get going.

    Awesome guide. I have been playing Ostriv on and off since it was first released. I still have to stop myself putting down a farm straight away (in the days before there were gardens).

    • @PatmosIV
      @PatmosIV  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! Well it can still be interesting to build a farm first and get some harvest already! Usually I suggest players build the houses first, because quite a few people struggle to get the 9 houses done in time, but it is well possible to build a farm first and the 9 houses in time. And then you can have a harvest and thus food to sell on a market around October. And then your town can start growing as you build a few extra houses. It can really kickstart the town, since normally you have to wait till your gardens produce enough, you can import food or the end of the second year when the harvest comes in then. In the end it won't make to big a difference, but having a few extra people already going into the second year can be quite helpful!

      Some items others might like to know about (although I am checking now if updates have improved this and I am not far along enough to have pigs or horses), Pigs: I usually kill all but a breeding 3 (1 male and 2 females) at 6 months to prevent them eating everything. They are only there to add diet variety. Horses, are even later game meat than pigs, they are a terrible food source but if you do not harvest them they used to cause glitches of too many horses in a paddock (I think this got fixedand then they would just get too old). I kept their numbers to about 10 - 15, 1 stallion to 9 - 14 mares rand if they are not attached to a cart they are harvested when about 10 yrs old other horses are harvested at a younger age to prevent overcrowding / ageing horses.

    • @PatmosIV
      @PatmosIV  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@playlisttarmac Thank you for sharing this!
      Pigs are in all ways to expensive in my opinion. I always tell people to only get pigs if you really want to and dedicate one farm to feed a pigsty, cause they eat way to much! And all the micromanagement to keep slaughtering them is way to much time spend on not building my city haha. Wish there would come a way to just tell them to slaughter all animals above a certain age and number.
      Horses are a late game resource anyways in my opinion. By the time you need horse wagons your city is already quite large. Luckily horses don't breed that fast, so a steady supply of horses to keep the wagons going works fine now.
      Haven't encountered glitches with the horses yet. I usually just buy one stallion and 3 mares and they can breed all I need.

    • @playlisttarmac

      @@PatmosIV Pigs are awful (and the last time I played they had improved, I am playing again but not ready for pigs). It used to be a challenge when the game first started to have pigs survive - they used to starve very easily. Now they do not starve as easily but are way too resource intensive. I only ever have one pigsty even with very large towns.

    • @PatmosIV
      @PatmosIV  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @playlisttarmac very true! I build pigs sometimes when I have everything else not much else to do! Just so that I have build everything. I do hope though that they will now focus on more decorations and a nice civil service infrastructure instead of just adding more productions. And maybe a bit more freedom to build houses without gardens and then add gardens ourselves to them.

  • @KG-1
    @KG-1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Very good like the other one I commented on.
    I'm going to use 20x40 fields, make the 4th one hay+, and go sheep - for the wool, less support. I found out the hard way just how busy it is to do hides - the supply chain is pretty long. Idea being, conserve land use, get quicker seed/gather. Go to cattle when I need oxen and am building the second farm-4 fields. Dairy early also.
    Something else I'm going to do - 4 stalls-two pairs of two, staff as needed for each granary, and the same at the trading post. Use the trading post to stock up early on finished goods, external food and sundries.
    Going to make my Houses with gardens just big enough, so they get three crops. I could see the big garden houses being the way to supporting the later stone buildings. Like playing Pharaoh always find conserving land use is a big thing and key in planning.
    Apples all the way and better labor management next time.

    • @PatmosIV
      @PatmosIV  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Thank you so much! I will try to comment on some of your statements/questions!
      First of all, there is no correct or wrong way in this game, so do as you please and have a much fun as you can! I will give some tips or ideas, but that is in no way to judge or criticize, just suggestion to help!
      First of all I think your field size is nice. Just make sure you have laborers available when sowing in march and harvesting in August/September. That really helps!
      Hay doesn't come from field though. You need hay dryers for that and during the summer months laborers can mow grass and dry it into hay.
      The clothing chain is quite long, very true, but also historically accurate which is on of the main goals for this game. one of the more workably ways is to buy some cloths in the first years to keep your population happy. Start year 2 with 1 cowshed. Buy 1 bull and 5 cows, they will start reproducing. When you have around 15 cows, build a second shed and split the cows and have them double their growth. And then when the cowsheds are full start slaughtering 1 year old bulls that get the best yield from them. Always keeping one 1+ old bull for reproduction. Don't forget to let the cows use a pasture, saves a lot of food and water.
      Then build a tanner and import some salt to get tanning. And then later build a saltworks and you have the complete chain. Just build the chain in steps so it is manageable. You can buy what you need in the meantime.
      Smart plan with the stalls and granary's. It could be wise to not stock up to much in the trader. All you can make yourself but buy is a waste of money, a small town doesn't need much and when you reach like 200-250 people you can be pretty much self-sufficient with minimal imports.
      Enjoy playing the game and exploring things!

      @@PatmosIV for sure on no right way - got the manage labor piece from your other video - why you want that counselor. If I get you right - any worker on a animal farm, can prioritize in general to gather most of the time to keep food-water stocked. If pasturing will the animals go to the river and drink if they can?
      Just watched the trade video, so my understanding is vastly improved - don't have to have it in export stock to sell one time, but stock a share of what each city wants to buy.
      Probably will built 2 warehouses - notionally, one for the dock and one for the trading post.
      laborers on carts, got it.
      Focused on shoes and clothes since I got hit with that need and didn't have any on hand - about 3 families moved out.

    • @PatmosIV
      @PatmosIV  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Workers on the animal buildings can be set to supply the building. So they will go to granarys and wells to collect food and water and bring it to the animalbuilding. In addition you can get laborers to do that too as a help. When you allow animals to "use fallow field" they will use farmfields that are set that year as fallow to go to and graze their. That supplies all their food and water needs during the time they are on their. So you only need to feed and give water during the time they are in the shed. Chickens and Pigs can't go onto a fallow field though. A worker will bring them to a fallow field and collect them back automaticly. You just have to allow them to do so.
      If you want to trade a good to an outside village it is highly recommended you keep it in the trader. Cause a wagon will come and workers will transport it onto the wagon from the traders stockpile. If its not in the tradingpost, they won't be able to put it on a wagon and you won't get paid. If you want to sell it one time, just click the little icon after a good that says: One time only (or something like that) that means that after it is sold and transported, they won't restock that.
      Building warehouses close to the trader can help, but the trader can stock quite some goods themselves so its not really needed.
      Yeah you need to get some shoes and clothing after like year 3 or something. But that gives plenty of time to start buying some to sell in the markets until you can produce your own.
      Good luck!

    Very informative guide, thank you Patmos. Quick question about farm fields : is there a way to know the order in which fields will be sown ? Is it the order they are shown in the farm menu ? About garden produced food, is there an amount (quantity wise) at which they accept to sell to the granaries ? (yes I'm a big newbie)

    • @PatmosIV
      @PatmosIV  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are most welcome @paulbarreto5139! I hope it really helps to build a village.
      The fields are sown and harvested in the order they are shown in by the farm. So field 1 is done first, then field 2 etc.
      Well I don't know the exact number, but they need quite a surplus to start selling it to the granary. So if they only have around 20 or 25 they wont sell and keep it for themselves.
      You also have to make sure that you pay them a fair price. Once you have build the townhall you can set the prices of market products but also the buying price for granary's. If you lower that too much, they wont sell to you. Same as when they have to pay a high price on the market compared to a low selling price at the granary. then they will keep the products themselves.
      I hope this helps! Thanks for asking great questions!

    I have set up a farm with plenty of food, a granary, markets but the food from the farm won't go to the granary no matter what I do. It just builds up and up in the farm until the farm says it is full. No matter what I do, nothing will leave the farm. I am utterly frustrated. No matter what options I set up, nothing moves. I cannot trade to sell something as nothing will move from the farm. Neither can I get any food from the houses to go to market.

    • @PatmosIV
      @PatmosIV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So sorry to hear that. It's a little hard to help out without seeing the game of course. But just a couple of questions:
      1. Are the buildings relatively close to each other so workers don't have to cross the whole map to go from the farm to lets say a granary?
      2. Do you have free laborers that can do carrying jobs?
      3. Do you have worker(s) in the granary and market stalls?
      4. Did you check the options in the menu of those buildings that laborers can bring in the goods?
      5. Did you set up the granary for the right resources? So if you have buckwheat, that you add buckwheat to the granary with a limit to it? Like 1500 or something?
      6. Keep the markets close to the granary's. Markets can only get goods from the granary, not directly from a farm.
      Well those are a few first things you could check and hope that helps.
      In this video I set up a granary and markets so maybe that can help:
      th-cam.com/video/w-RN0zGKd3g/w-d-xo.html
      Just jump to 35:25 then my granary is done and I start to set it up. Hopefully it helps.
      If not, let me know, I will take a deeper look into it!
