    Thank you for this video! I drove to a store near my house and even though I've never had any problems I suddenly couldn't turn my key past position 1. I have a 2002 s60. Found your video. Went to the store and got my car running in 10 min. Just hammered a screwdriver into that slot and forced that panel down a little bit and BAM! We're back in business!. Thank you so much!
    PS: it's 15 F outside!

    Thank-you for this video - had the same problem with my 2003 Volvo V70 and your fix worked exactly as shown. I found I had to Dremel the plate for what seemed to me quite deep but I kept going and eventually found the plate dropped and then the key could turn to all positions. Wonderful and saved me a trip to the garage and alot of money. Cheers.

    Before doing this, try locking and unlocking the car with your key fob 5x. Wait a moment, then try to turn the key.

    after you dropped the plate what have you done ? I found some grease and a spring coil but the key didn't turn

      @@Smokeylocz I fixed my problem by putting a Shit ton of WD 40 on my car key and smashing it into the keyhole with a blunt object. It was honestly really barbaric and I thought I would break my car further.
      It totally fixed the issue tho. I had to put like 2 coatings of wd40 before the key would start sliding in like normal and then 1 or two more to get the ignition to turn over and to get the key to move.
      Give it a shot, saw it on a TH-cam video that the column needed some lubricant.

      @@KlvtchTheAlien i actually just checked again and as i lifted the plate he mentioned not to remove i started freaking out because it did not do anything so i started to remove the place and nothing still happened , no luck, i started to have to get a little hammer and start banging on the plate as im moving the key and it would turn on without letting me switch gears, i had to stick my hand under where seat and cup holder is to pull the gear interlocking switch to switch from p to drive, i was like damn well i just messed my sh*t up even more , should had just bought a replacement and just dealt with the issue ,so i looked at what was inside the plate one more time and i noticed i lost the spring🤦🏻‍♂️ cant get any more worser right , i started moving the key around I noticed the inside was somehow stuck rubbing against the metal pieces around it i moved it with a little flat screwdriver to where it fell off and i heard a click , BOOM! Keys working fine now and gear selecting is working as well .might have to find some metal to metal adhesive of some sort to put back that plate for the meantime and get the little spring that got lost i hope it does no damage or anything like that until i get a new replacement. Cheers!

    There are so many "Fixes" to this problem on YT but they can't all be right. I would think Volvo would want to clear this up with their experts. It's not like you can drive the car to the dealer when this happens. I don't dare to drive mine now.

      I made this repair based on another TH-cam video that wasn't very clear. Just wanted to make it easier for others.

      Volvo dealers arent training techs on 15 year old models my freind, I've heard several people claim the dealer did not want to service anything other than the airbag recall on their P2 cars, claimed they couldn't because their new scan tool would not work with (the customer's) old car, to fix the ABS light, etc.

      @@jamesgeorge4874 Are you claiming Volvo's don't last long. That conflicts with their ads doesn't it? My friend.

    • @jamesgeorge4874
      @jamesgeorge4874 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeJones-rk1un No, they last a damn long time, in my region, _the dealer_ does not _want_ to work on them, if they are 10+ years old, period ! 3 different people I know *wanted* the dealer to diagnose some issues, and the dealer said _We cannot_ diagnose your car, "it is too old for our system" , not my words, Volvo's words. You tell me what that means........
