    Bersa CC is my way to go for everyday carry. I'll sacrifice the si:ze for the reliability. Very comfortable, 8 +1, many safety features, fixed barrel, easy break down, very accurate. Doesn't have much of sights but its a point and shoot anyways and its a bit snappy! Oh not to mention its one of the cheapest pistols in this video. Go for reliability folks, its to protect you and your family!

    Paul Harrel has a excellent video on .380 barrel length and ammo effectiveness. When you go from 2.5 inch to 3 inch, there is a considerable change in ammo performance.

    Bersa Thunder Dual Tone. Load mine with Underwood .380 #145 102 grain Golden Sabre (1060 fps). Back up magazine Underwood .380 #729 Hardcast (1150 fps). Great fun on range day. Very accurate. 3.5" barrel. Sexy too. Excellent safety features. Single action and Double action. 7 + 1. Aluminum frame. Out the door for under $350. Bersa Thunder! Thank you for a great pocket gun review. Well done.

    After extensive research and some handling and shooting, I decided on the Kahr CW380 as my pocket .380 of choice. It is hard to find, but is a great gun. It is reasonably priced (unlike the cringe-inducing price of the P380) with great features (like being +P capable) and a great trigger. I wouldn't waste the extra money on the extra features of a P380; an adjustable front sight, some fancy machining and a "match grade" barrel. None of those are of any practical use for a pocket gun - which is a backup/up close and personal gun. IMO a pocket .380 is not a range gun, or a target gun or fun to shoot - it's a pure defensive item. I highly recommend it, from my experience the CW380 is the best pocket sized .380 on the market, a nice combination of quality and price. Goodbye to my trusty old LCP with its horrible trigger and larger size.

  • @paperback10
    @paperback10 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I really like my Bersa Thunder 380, it is a high value, high quality firearm. When you are comparing 380 pistols at the gun store, ask the salesperson to explain the multiple safeties, hammer decocker and single action/double action features on the Bersas. I think those features make the Bersa an especially good choice for people new to concealed carry. Probably the main downside is that the gun is a little larger and heavier - but you can use a 9 rd magazine on most models.

  • @soundman502
    @soundman502 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    As an owner of the Bersa Thunder .380, I have to say it is a phenomenal carry weapon. 100% reliability, easy to clean, easy to carry, and easy to stay on target. It still fits in a pants pocket, but not like the others. The wifes LCP 380 is much smaller and more suited for that, but the Bersa is no problem for pocket or IWB carry.

    • @tkarlmann
      @tkarlmann 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any thoughts regarding the Thunder Plus for CC?

    • @soundman502
      @soundman502 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      tkarlmann I was fortunate enough to have had all three available at the shop where I purchased mine. Really, it depends on how you plan to carry/use it. It was still very comfortable in hand, but of course a little thicker and heavier. It's features seemed about the same as my standard, other than the near double capacity. Part of me wishes that I had chosen the CC instead of the standard simply for the slightly smaller profile and the additional round capacity. Ultimately, I chose the standard because it fit my hand the best and having an easily accessible hammer was on the top of my list.
      It might be a little tough to pocket carry the Thunder Plus, but depending on your body shape, you could probably still carry it in a hip holster or inside waistband holster it. If going IWB, check out Alien Gear hoslters. Best, most comfortable holsters for IWB carry.

    • @tkarlmann
      @tkarlmann 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      soundman502 I am a very small-framed person. Unfortunately, I tend to go-for-the-gun, and think "holster" as an afterthought. As you can tell, I'm new to CC. Well, I live in Illinois, so that's my excuse. (I can anticipate your reply -- there is NO excuse for living in Illinois! LOL).

    • @soundman502
      @soundman502 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tkarlmann I'm glad my neighbors to the west are finally getting their right to carry back. Here in Indiana we're an open or conceal carry state, and I enjoy the freedom of both depending on the occasion.
      The reason I bring that up though, is because how you plan to carry may greatly influence the type and size of pistol you'll choose. If you're going for concealed carry, then smaller profile is important (Bersa 380 CC would be perfect) because you not only have to consider the gun, but the thickness of the holster. Also, I'd recommend that any holster you get locks the gun in place, either with a strap or some kind of release. The last thing you need happening is for that gun to fall away from you. If you're going for open carry (pros and cons to that) then pistol size is a little less of a concern.
      I will always recommend concealed carry when legal/possible. Your pistol is your last resort and I believe is best effective when it's a complete surprise to your assailant. Sure, some people will take the sight of an armed person as a no trespass sign, but some people aren't interested in that at all.
      Either way, be well trained and well practiced. Don't carry until that gun is as natural to you as breathing. If you have to think about an action, practice more. Safety over security my friend will always be your strongest ally!
      Whichever way you go, I wish you the best!

    • @tkarlmann
      @tkarlmann 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      soundman502 My spirits became dampened when I found out the process to obtain CC license in IL costs $650 -- not including the gun.
      However, I do agree with you on size of carry. I'm a small person, and I may be hampering my normal activities without the smallest possible gun for CC. (If I can ever save up enough $)

    Bersa thunder is pretty good, even better than the beretta cheetah, both in .380. The downsides are the external mechanism, too many safety features and the cost of mags.

  • @robertallen4627
    @robertallen4627 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I own half a dozen single action revolvers, but after having an intruder in my apartment, I think it's time to get a concealed carry gun. The Bersa Thunder is at the top of my list. I'm okay with a little mass, as a heavy gun with a light caliber like the .380 should make recoil manageable enough to have a realistic chance of getting shots on target when I'm freaking out.
    And even a gun as big as the Thunder will fit in the pocket of my blue jeans. My dad pocket carries one every day. The weight bothered him a bit at first, but he said he got used to it fairly quickly.

      I have had horrible experiences with Taurus. My G2C would not return to battery after every single shot. Had to slap the back of the slide just to get it to go foreword. The slide sounded gritty and sandy (insides were clean as a whistle) so I sent it to Taurus. 8 weeks later they sent it back with a new guide rod spring and the problem was still there. I have heard great things about the tcp and know lots of people who love them but I understand why he badmouths Taurus.

    I have the bodyguard. It is a very nice pocket gun and I use it most the summer due to wardrobe constraints. I did how ever put big dot sights on it as I have bifocals and without the dots on the sights, I have to tilt my head back to acquire the front post. Once I got the big dots on the gun, I could easily qualify with it. Of course, due to the short barrel, it ain't no target gun but it will do what it is intended for, up close and personal

    Well under 300 dollars with 2 mags, holds open on the last round, comes in lots of finishes, lifetime warranty, great trigger, big easy for gloved hands trigger guard, stainless barrel. All these details somehow slipped his mind and as just quickly called it "poor" and git past it quickly because it's not his favorite or a Glock.

    I have the LCP, Keltec and the Bersa. The Bersa is by far the shooters choice of 380 if you want to go shooting. The LCP racks your hand pretty good as does the Keltec. But the LCP NEVER jams. The Bersa did a few times when it was new. The Keltec jams all the time, with cheap or expensive ammo. I dont think I would ever carry the Keltec just for dependabilty sake.

    I bought the kahr p380, had the Trijicon night sights and ct laser put on it. It is the nicest lightest gun and best looking. But guess what? I get ftf, fte, and stove pipes on it. Because I had these problems it makes it a horrible gun for ccw. The last thing you need for a last line of defense is a gun that is unreliable. I sent it to Kahr to fix it, and I'm still having problems with it. Really disappointing!
    The kahr pm9 on the other hand is one of the most reliable 9mm I have ever had. It has a lot of reviews, and people love it.

    • @JDPri77
      @JDPri77 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      He admits that he hasn't shot the TCP and he is basing his negativity on rumor of the Taurus brand. I am surprised he likes the Diamondback. There are more reviews of problems with the DB380 than any gun he looks at on the video. But, most people that are married to their Glocks might not realize the DB380 is not a true Glock design.

      Taurus has always has bad reviews with semi autos. Some of it earned, a lot of it seemed to just catch the wave and ride it in. Taurus fans seem to love them and those that haven't had the chances to shoot one steer clear because or the reviews. I personally don't like Glock. That is just me and I jnowntheirngod pistols. But you're point about the Taurus is valid. Have one, shoot it often, never a glitch, a nice little shooter that is prove itself reliable.

      Back in the early 80's a buddy and I went out shooting. I had a S&W .38 with 2" barrel and he had some type of Taurus, which I'd never heard of at the time. We figured it was a 'Saturday Night Special'. It was a semi-auto .38 or 9mm if I remember but I didn't really know much back then.
      Anyhow.... He filled his clip and pulled the trigger ONCE. With that one trigger pull he emptied the clip. FULLY AUTO. We assumed it was some kind of malfunction but it jammed way down the mag so he emptied it and said he was going to return it for repair. I don't remember if he ever did.
      Anyone else ever heard of this happening? People around us got in their cars and left because they thought we were gang-bangers with Uzi's or something. It was laughable!

With every single shot you had to wrestle the slide just to get it to get a round out of the magazine and into the chamber.

    I think overall the selection shown was rather poor -- with many guns of the same model with only different colors were shown. Where is the Bersa Thunder Plus, Walther PPK, etc? I would not want a DA-only gun -- I like to hit what I'm aiming at.
    I would also like to hear comments on the defensive potential of a 16-round .380 as opposed to another higher caliber.

The man showed, I believe, 14 different .380 models of ccw. I have close to 100 different firearms and can't get close to showing you 14 different .380 caliber pistols. He is just showing you his favorite manufacturers and models, not all available to be purchased. I think this was an excellent video on his personal perspective, that you have came here to learn from. You DID come to this link to get his personal recommendation, correct?

On the video he comments on the strange profile of the trigger guard - I'm personally glad it's oversized as it easily allows the use of gloves. It's a bit snappy will hurt the trigger finger without a glove.

    I bought the Taurus TCP. The reliabilty is excellent. If you hear bad reports, those reports were from the earlier ones, which are fixed now
    It has some nice features that others don't. If the mag is removed, it still fires, which can be a very important thing to have. The slide locks back after last round.. If you buy one, make sure to get one with the serial number that ends in "C" (later model) It has a good trigger, and all for about $200.With great customer service and LIFETIME warranty.

    It's is kind of a shame you didn't have a bodyguard 380 to show. I'm glad that you mentioned it though. I have had mine for a while now and it's been a great little pocket gun. I like the sights on it. The laser on mine was dead accurate right out of the box. And since it wasn't mentioned I'll also add that it has a manual safety and a slide stop. It also locks back on the last shot which isn't necessary in a pocket pistol but is still a convenient feature. Mine eats everything.

    I have to agree with you about the keys. The only thing in my pocket is the pistol and the holster. The Bodyguard 380's trigger is similar to the LCP but just a tad lighter. While the long, heavy, DAO trigger isn't ideal, it's not a bad feature to have on these small pistols for added safety. They really aren't bad once you get used to it, and the Bodyguard's trigger has loosened up a lot. If you don't like the LCP's grip, try holding a Bodyguard 380 with the extension, it's more substantial.
