Very good indeed. Killer song by an amazing lady. My mother took me to see Janis and Big Brother and the Holding Company in 68. I sure miss my mom when I hear Janis!!
When my mother was still around she would always listen to Aerosmith, Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon, Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin. Nowadays it's near impossible for me to listen to Dark Side of the Moon and this particular song was one of her favorites it has this kind of this bittersweet feeling to it. Very good performance thank you for the lesson you brought a tear to my eye.
Really incredible introduction on this song. Janis had a great band. They also had a great studio producer & profoundly knowledgeable music director who would help them arrange & stay on track. What a band & Janis had a killer voice. Tks guitar pilgrim. Once again you have superbly nailed an insight into this song. Your guitar playing is Unsurpassed. You would be my first choice for studio work on my original material.
What makes it so unbelievable is that the guitar was so great, but the singer was one of the talents of the 20th century. By the way, your note for note performance was incredible.
Exuberance was the word that suits you so much. Thanks Steve Hamlin👍 GP, would love to know a bit about your musical background. It’s obvious you love to focus on other wonderful iconic musicians which we all, appreciate & respect.
@@KimTebrok No problem Mick, thx for the comment!! Mainly metal from 1986 till 2015. I love classic rock but since I’ve found the blues 5 yrs ago I haven’t looked back. Got back into playing 🎸 again from watching Marty Music channel & now countless others. Lately I’ve been working on modes & arpeggios. Trying to incorporate multiple genres in my playing. I almost never play covers. Last few years my faves are Josh Smith, Kirk Fletcher, Matt Schofield & Guthrie Trapp. I also like some country, just not the mainstream stuff. A bit of neo soul music like Melanie Faye. Found some good modern rock like Blackwater Fever, Radio Moscow, Mt Carmel, all them witches etc. Not much metal anymore but I’ll always be a sucker for anything Ozzy has done. Same for Floyd, Tool, Rush. How’s about yourself? Any music suggestions? Always lookin for new stuff to hear or learn. I’m kinda stuck at intermediate level playing
My favorite female singer is Ann Wilson of Heart. Some amazing vocals from early Heart recordings. Ann's sister provided excellent harmonies and some memorable acoustic guitar.
You never fail to amaze!! I recently listened to BBM for the first time, ginger baker, jack bruce and the legend Gary Moore.... you gotta do a lesson on their song waiting in the wings!!! Amazing guitar playing
On you picked a great piece of work here Pilgrim ! I mean this is the very heart and soul of guitar ! And rock n roll in general ! When you can create a diff like this, you have reached the Holy Grail !!!! TY Brother !!!! 😜👍💕💕💕
Sorry I missed this one Thom!! A fave of mine, from original to Faith Hill's version...PS I saw her and Big Bro.and the Holding Co. several times. In my opinion this song was actually the best their guitarists played along with "Down on Me"...and later, Gershwin's "Summertime". Speaking of which I need to listen to Billy Stewart's and Billie Holliday's versions.
Nicely done GP! Also, don't forget about Janis usually walking out on stage carrying that fifth of a bottle of hard liquor! She was one feisty lady & a great performer............. 👍😉
Pilgrim, would you mind sharing how you arrived at the sound on your strat with this song? The amp, pedals and what pickups you have in your strat. The clarity, yet strength, I LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic and accurate cover on a amazing 60's classic. Is it possible to do a full detailed lesson on how to play it. I would be glad to pay for it. Would also love to see your interpretation of Joplin's Summertime. Cheers and stay safe! 👍👍
Love your videos! I know you love the blues could you please look in to doing a video on the great Rory Gallagher. I think one of his best blues songs is called(what in the world) I would to hear you break it down.
I absolutely love all your videos and I just became a Patreon member. I just wish you could interject a little theory to explain some of the moves done in this solo. Not just the "how to make it sound good" but also the "why it sounds so good."
What is that bridge PUP? How many Ohm output does it have? what amp are you using? where is that amazing 60s sound coming from????? I'm in love and I need to have it
Great song but would like to see you break down the more technical parts of that verse intro as you've played it in the video. I can't quite get it & I think other people could be having the same problem. We just need a bit more attention played to that part :)
Hello guitar pilgrim. Can you please make a video about iron butterfly? Especially fields of sun or iron butterfly theme or their cover song for get out my life, woman. You definitely should give it a listen, if you haven't already

Very good indeed. Killer song by an amazing lady. My mother took me to see Janis and Big Brother and the Holding Company in 68. I sure miss my mom when I hear Janis!!

He is literally my favourite guitarist, i wasn't expecting this comment here
"A million miles away" from "Irish Tour 1974" PLEASE !!!
When my mother was still around she would always listen to Aerosmith, Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon, Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin. I've heard it a million times. But when you played her "YEAAAAAHHHH", I got ridiculously massive goosebumps hahaha
Exct i never knew .stil wrkin on his lesson
love the spirit with which you perform, pilgrim!!!
I still miss Janis. She was the first to totally blow my mind with the Blues. The next was Jimmy; and then suddenly they were gone.
Sir thank you very much for sharing your super super awesome guitar skill. I cannot believe you can play anything. Thanks again I am learning a lot
I used to play in a Gospel band in South Central L.A. You would've easily taken my place. I love your vids. Jimi Hendrix lives!
Wow! Opened my eyes to how great that song is after hearing it a thousand times. Well done!
Really incredible introduction on this song. Janis had a great band. They also had a great studio producer & profoundly knowledgeable music director who would help them arrange & stay on track. You are great, not only by explaining guitar patterns but also the song itself. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm.
What makes it so unbelievable is that the guitar was so great, but the singer was one of the talents of the 20th century. By the way, your note for note performance was incredible.
Janis (Joplin), Jimi (Hendrix) and Jim (Morrison) were the best and all left us TOO soon.
I really enjoyed this. Very, very good video. Wish you would’ve played all the way through. It was captivating. You play exceptionally well.
Janis Joplin simplesmente incrível
Great job on this lesson… short, to the point and correct
The technique AND the emotion...excellent lesson!
I've been playing this song for ages; now I've got to up my game after studying your video :) Thank you very much!
Can you imagine her and Jimi performing this song together ! OMG !!!! ✝️💕
Yes! This is one of the best Band ever no doubt
Ahh janis , she was something else and in a good way . She had more soul n feel than any 10 singers wished they had . A terrible loss .
Your exuberance always makes it fun Thom. I’ve always favored Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks & lately Kelly Clarkson & sometimes Pink

You never fail to amaze!! I recently listened to BBM for the first time, ginger baker, jack bruce and the legend Gary Moore.... you gotta do a lesson on their song waiting in the wings!!! Amazing guitar playing

Love your videos! I know you love the blues could you please look in to doing a video on the great Rory Gallagher. I think one of his best blues songs is called(what in the world) I would to hear you break it down.
I will have a listen!
Big Brother and the Holding Company were too good to be totally overshadowed by their singer, even one who created a new genre by herself.
Dude - you've excelled yourself on this one. Great analysis, demo and kickass vocals to boot. Kudos and thanks for uniformly awesome content 🎸
Big Brother had 2 Amazing Guitarists - Listen to Janis and Big Brothers version of "Summertime." The guitar duet is Stunning IMO.
Pilgrim definitely digs from a different mine to your average teacher, and all the better for it!
This is great! How did you get that tone? Thanks for sharing :)
Excellent!
Great stuff, thank you
Awesome!! Great playing and explaining as always! Btw could you do a Jimmy Page video?? That'd be cool!
I absolutely love all your videos and I just became a Patreon member. I just wish you could interject a little theory to explain some of the moves done in this solo. Not just the "how to make it sound good" but also the "why it sounds so good."
I'd like to see you do a segment on Waddy Wachtel, "the guitarist's guitarist".
Amazing. Thank you very much!
What model of Stratocaster you use here? Sound awesome
When are you moving to Raleigh North Carolina so I can take lesions.
Very Good Video.
The song is very brash at the opening.
Beautiful
👍😎❤🖖
Love brother
Nailed it! :)
Your strat sounds absolut perfect ... what model? 😃
Great playing ! 👌
Greetings from Austria
✌
It does sound good. With the 22 frets, it's probably a us standard strat. Most custom shop and mexican strats (and Eric johnson strats) 21 frets.
Does sound good. Most likely US standard strat with the 22 frets.
New sub here! Wish you could make a tutorial for Bye bye baby by Janis 😭😭
What is that bridge PUP? How many Ohm output does it have? what amp are you using? where is that amazing 60s sound coming from????? I'm in love and I need to have it
Renee Gayer. You have to check out "the thrill is gone' from the blue's licence album
Dinah Washington, smooth as silk. Check out "Cry Me a River."
You give me so much punch with your video’s... thank a lot !!!!!!
Great song but would like to see you break down the more technical parts of that verse intro as you've played it in the video. I can't quite get it & I think other people could be having the same problem. We just need a bit more attention played to that part :)
