Nah, I think Mercer is still alive. My thought on it was he was letting himself be consumed and in the 3rd game would be inside Heller's head similar to Joker in Batman's head in Arkham Knight. Sort of using him as an incubator to become stronger possibly to fight Pariah in the 3rd game. They seemed to have been hyping up the fight between them a lot in the 1st game and Radical Entertainment was closed abruptly by Activi$ion

It's cause people became attached to Alex so people wanted to play as him so when we played as a character who wasn't mercer people were disappointed while mercers character felt completely different even if you read the comics
That's probably why people hate Heller. He was written as a simple guy with motives that only emotional people could relate too which made him come off as a rip off of Asura and Kratos. And it was also making Mercer a generic villain that damned the franchise to hell.

They should have saved the big battle of Mercer and Heller for part 3. Then in part 3 you can choose to play as Alex or Mercer. Finishing the game with either character. I hate how this cutscene was so quick and simple. Alex is a God and they made it so quick for Heller to stand up to him. No short fight scene. Nothing just a 1 min clip.
lil leel I just really wish this game was more extended u know. As far to a part 3 like Crysis. Newer Monsters or even a newer Enemy after defeating Heller. With today's graphics. I wouldn't mind if they rebooted this game with different characters. In another city just something with a Prototype atmosphere. Hopefully some day but that's highly unlikely.

I think it's the other way around. Alex Mercer is the mysterious guy and that's it. No further depth into the character. His dialogues in P1 are like he has no soul. In P2 there is some improvement but his idealism still makes him sound silly and a bit empty as a character.

I personally think he won because of adrenaline in the mission labor of love he destroys tanks, supersoldiers, and brawlers with one hit. Even if you have all the powers and new game plus the only thing comparable is the finishers but those often include more than one hit. Or it does and it is at a point where durability wouldn’t be the strongest. Such as the tendril and claw finishers on helicopters.

The reason Alex couldn't consume Heller was because his DNA is resilient, they kinda hint in the game that Heller and Maya might be the cure to the Virus, hence why Gentek wanted to experient on her and after this scene, Alex takes an interest in her as well. It also would make sense with Alex letting Heller kill him in the end, he realized his DNA had something special and since he couldn't consume him, he allowed himself to be consumed instead. Shame we never got a 3rd game, would've been interesting seeing where the story of Heller's DNA mixed with Alex's would go.

Im sure Heller’s resilient DNA fused with being an evolved probably gave him a rare ability to resist or reject being consumed. In these universes like Marvel and DC and other franchises nothing is impossible there’s always possibilities. Plus in the Prototype universe these guys can regenerate from reduced atoms their healing factors are almost limitless. I wouldn’t be surprised if the writers added a new ability to reject being consumed.

You know I don’t really understand this scene or how Alex can’t consume Heller in general to be honest. It’s said that reason is that Heller’s DNA is resilient to the virus (which makes no sense considering what we’ve seen this virus do and how it is constantly changing), but if that is the case, how is it that Alex was able to infect Heller in the first place? Was it just some strange mutation that happened after he was infected? If that was the case, why would Alex be interest in Amaya’s DNA?
Loved both Prototype 1+2. Sweet gameplay. But if i was forced to pick one.... I enjoyed Prototype 2 playing Heller more than Mercer. Hopefully the revived interest in Prototype will lead to Prototype 3 with BOTH Heller and Mercer as playable leads including co-op gameplay.

The “resilient DNA” is the offspring virus bonding to Heller permanently in a way that it would refuse its parent virus. Sorta like the symbiotes carnage and Venom. Alex mercer could have produced the same effect probably if he wasn’t dead when the virus had entered his body. Top that with how many people you absorb in prototype 1, the virus weakens its alex personality into one of all the big bads in prototype as well.
No, james has been infected for weeks only while mercer has been infected for years he even gets stronger by every thing he consumes which means by the time of years consuming powerful infected he is way more powerful and immortal most importantly, notice that mercer can revive himself from one single blood cell which means he is still alive in the end fight because heller ripped off Mercer's arms and notice also that mercer consumed those people who were like him infected with black light virus and i don't know for sure but i think mercer has consumed at least one of those powerful infected you are talking about at the time where heller was consuming them too since consuming makes mercer stronger

Not in that state he couldn't. Heller had resistant DNA (which is why he can't get consumed and why he isn't like an evolved), plus he evolves way faster than Mercer. Near the end of the game, Heller doesn't even take damage from normal bullets.

You know I don’t really understand this scene or how Alex can’t consume Heller in general to be honest. It’s said that reason is that Heller’s DNA is resilient to the virus (which makes no sense considering what we’ve seen this virus do and how it is constantly changing), but if that is the case, how is it that Alex was able to infect Heller in the first place? Was it just some strange mutation that happened after he was infected? If that was the case, why would Alex be interest in Amaya’s DNA?

Loved both Prototype 1+2. Sweet gameplay. But if i was forced to pick one.... I enjoyed Prototype 2 playing Heller more than Mercer.
Hopefully the revived interest in Prototype will lead to Prototype 3 with BOTH Heller and Mercer as playable leads including co-op gameplay.

No Heller does have resilient DNA it's confirmed in his wiki on wikia but I just wish they explained it more though
The “resilient DNA” is the offspring virus bonding to Heller permanently in a way that it would refuse its parent virus. Sorta like the symbiotes carnage and Venom. Alex mercer could have produced the same effect probably if he wasn’t dead when the virus had entered his body. Top that with how many people you absorb in prototype 1, the virus weakens its alex personality into one of all the big bads in prototype as well.
James is stronger than mercer because he consumed more Powerful infected
No, james has been infected for weeks only while mercer has been infected for years he even gets stronger by every thing he consumes which means by the time of years consuming powerful infected he is way more powerful and immortal most importantly, notice that mercer can revive himself from one single blood cell which means he is still alive in the end fight because heller ripped off Mercer's arms and notice also that mercer consumed those people who were like him infected with black light virus and i don't know for sure but i think mercer has consumed at least one of those powerful infected you are talking about at the time where heller was consuming them too since consuming makes mercer stronger

Not in that state he couldn't. Heller had resistant DNA (which is why he can't get consumed and why he isn't like an evolved), plus he evolves way faster than Mercer. Near the end of the game, Heller doesn't even take damage from normal bullets.
