I love how Mercer has this huge, life saving world plan, while Heller is just like "f*** this, where's my daughter b****!"

I like how it was explained in this mission yet these two people think it makes you part immortal or makes them evolved when the people that get infected die the virus replaces them Alex Mercer died when he was infected and the thing pretending to be Alex Mercer killed Heller when he infected him it doesn't make you immortal it kills you and shoves something else in

For those wanting to know why Alex is the hero in Protytpe 1 but suddenly the villain in Prototype 2:
The Prototype 2 comics came out in between the Prototype 1 and 2 games and it depicts how Alex went from good guy to bad guy. Apparently the game devs expected everyone to read the comic so they kinda didn't bother showing it in the Prototype 2 game.
Long story short: after the events of Prototype, Alex travels the world trying to find out where he fits in, considering he's not exactly human anymore. During his travels, he witnesses how corrupt the human race is and he basically gets disgusted and loses faith in humanity as a whole. (Tons of stuff happen in the comic, this is just a really general summary.) So Alex turns "evil" in the sense that he wants to make something better than the human race because humans have gone too far to be saved.
If you think about it, he's kinda a hero but in a more Thanos way.

Heller: And I am a Super Soldier
alex was never the hero or the good guy, in the first game he already had evil tropes like consuming his ex and cross saying something about there being no more leaders which implys infected leaders but then mercer says 'except me'
imo the comic fucks up mercer in which the first game was already setting up for the 2nd game and shouldve been different than the comic that was given for the explanation of mercer being evil in the 2nd game.

As much as we want that game, it's not happening, you see radical (the game developers for prototype). Was shut down and therefor prototype 3 will most likely never happen unless another company buys the rights to the prototype franchise. Hey, I want Prototype 3 too.

This boss fight is amazing... Because there is pretty much a war going on while Alex Mercer and James Heller fight each other and it gets crazier and crazier... Helicopters crashing down... Evolved Crows flying around, buildings on fire, the dead zone off in the distance and a massive tendril connecting from one building to the other. It's truly a fight for the fate of New York

I’ve always thought: Alex wanted Heller to cure the virus which is why he let Heller kill him. Look at that huge tendril attack at the end that annulled most of the infected.
Alex planned it all. All of it. He played the villain role on purpose. If you view the game from that perspective, Heller was basically a tool.
Also why does the fandom’s split on Heller and Alex remind me of the Halo fandom’s split of Agent Locke and Master Chief?

@@SirBojo4 it’s not for the sake of sounding smart. It’s analyzing the clues the story gives us, and analyzing character actions and their backstory. This type of story has happened before, about a villain using the hero to fulfill his plan, even beyond death. It’s a pretty common trope.

Taking a look at the dialogue of Alex/the virus and the way the achievement is worded (“murder your maker*?*”), and how this trope has played out before and how the infected were killed at the end, it’s possible that could’ve been what the devs planned.

What if you kill 2 monsters
to everyone who was wondering why both Alex lost and was evil out of nowhere, it was meant to be a setup for the next game before activision went down. That is a doppelganger who took form shortly after mercer had figured out his true identity. A fight ensues in which the original loses, but he wakes up a good amount of time later. he goes to defeat the doppelganger, only to see it become consumed by heller. That's how the next game was supposed to go, but that game has been cancelled for whatever reason. At least you know he isn't really dead

The problem with both of your responses are that they don't make sense at all. What Usman said has almost zero relevance to anything considering the big reveal is that you were playing as the virus for the whole game, and still wanted to prevent new York from being nuked. Zues acknowledged he isn't really Alex, but he still tried to create an outcome new York could recover from. He even goes on to say Alex Mercer was a terrible human for releasing the virus in the first place. So suddenly having Zues do exactly that in the second game makes absolutely zero sense. And it only gets worse as the game progresses and he actually starts monologing like a stereotypical villain. All his character is gone. He's a gross strawman masquerading as the character we played as and got to know in the first game.

People here need to understand. Alex Mercer could have decimated James Heller. Easy mode for him. But this is NOT Alex Mercer. The man we see in this game, is just a shell. People that played the first Prototype, know this. So in my humble opinion, I found it fitting that Heller won the fight.
I miss Mercer though. That armor-mode's appearance? And the Musclemass power? Good times.

filip siurunis I dont say that I want to change it, its just so unfitting. Mercer had the advantage over Heller, both being more confindent in his skills, as well as having more "material". We could have gone with it more easily if Mercer would be cocky and overconfident, but he wasnt. This just kinda seems like Mercer wanted to lose to Heller.
They really nerfed Alex in Prototype 2 , if He had all his insane abilities like Tendrils barrage, groundspike devastator, & the bulletdive ,this would've been one hell of a tough battle

Bread Cat Deal with it guys. My theory is when Alex or Heller become stronger, the one getting stronger is the virus inside them. When that happen, their humanity slowly vanished. The only thing that keeps them at bay is their dying will. At first, Alex's humanity is still strong because he had a strong will to uncover the truth behind Blacklight, but after his desire fulfilled (find the truth) the virus got the best of him, especially after realizing the real Alex is dead, only hollow body with the virus inside. Heller, having strong will to save his daughter, resisted the virus and controlled it. After saving his daughter, who know what might happen. Maybe eventually he will become like Alex, consumed by the virus, because he no longer have any will. Take note of Alex/Zeus's word to Dana, "beyond life and death". That's what I'm talking about.

Gameplay mechanics ≠lore.
Aside from the fight itself being generally great and the amazing music, I think my favourite thing about this boss fight is how whenever one of them lands a significant blow on the other, they start talking shit to each other. Each in their own different way that showcases the differences in their character. Alex is fairly courteous, but also unbearably smug and slightly psychotic. James on the other hand is super crude, loud and a little cocky whenever he gets the upper hand.

Alex could've summoned a Goliath and Heller summon 2 Juggernauts and 4 Brawlers (once it glitched on me and did that exact thing when Heller needed to break down that door before the final boss), Devastators, Consume & Hide stealth portions (and finding one another before they generate too much health would be a great boss fight mechanic as well as a co-op/vs mode feature in future installments (if they ever make one)), and more mixing and matching of different arm powers, as well as throwing things and open traversal in the environment during the boss. This game had so much potential. But instead it improved on some mechanics from P1, but actually worsened itself on some aspects the first game did better.

I was so pissed when I realized they abandon the perfectly good back story from prototype 1 and replace alex with heller. I mean yeah heller can still be protagonist but they forgotten all about project pariah, and after all of that foreshadowing.

cyberwolfy37 That was intense, but a bit simple. I preferred the Supreme Hunter boss fight. Also, I really wanted for Blackwatch to have better forces. The Super Soldiers were good, but we needed more. Drones, robotic enemies, a mech boss (Maybe 2, one Juggernaut sized, one Goliath sized). A more powerful version of P1's first boss with some Prototype powers (Imagine Cross with the ability to disguise himself and use the Claws and Bio-Bomb).
Ah, damn you, Radical. Crash of the Titans, Crash Mind Over Mutant and Prototype. Such *_creative(!!!)_* games and yet there was so much unused potential. I miss you guys so much...

cyberwolfy37 The Evolved... That just gave me an idea. A team vs team mode where you'd play as evolved against each other. Different mode could include finding and consuming a certain number of targets, deathmatches, and maybe killing your Goliath before the other team kills theirs (or alternatively kill X amount of enemies before they do). What do you think?

A Story where Alex lost it's purpose, and tried to give up on the World while Heller does the work... Alex gave Heller the Position because it looked like him before... a man with Meaning in his life While Alex is Stuck....
But that doesn't mean Alex is Gone, we might see Alex again, but in Heller's Consciousness while taking over Gentek and Heller destroying their plan with Another Gentek Virus and After that they must have lines like:
Alex: "Hahah, You call that an escape? I could do it much more better than that Junior"
Heller: " Mercer?!? "
Alex: "Trying to destroy Gentek I see, didn't you know I already tried that earlier?"

With him watching Heller's Move because Alex is stuck at his Goal which is trying to stop the Virus but we knew he became a Villain because he couldn't do anything about the Virus, so what's better than watching someone do the work for Him?
The Fight on Prototype 2 was maybe a Test for Heller if he has the same Capabilities like Alex, if it is I'd like to see what happens next.

Heller beating Alex is ridiculous. Clearly the developers just WANTED Heller to win for whatever reason, cause logically, and realistically, Alex would destroy Heller.
the thing is, Alex knew he couldnt destroy the virus completely by his powers alone, but Heller and Alex power combined any of them could do it. Alex seemed like he was feeding Hellers anger so Heller would consume him and do it himself since Alex had nothing to live for but Heller has a family. Alex could have killed Heller easily.

If that was the case, why did Mercer release the virus yet again? Why did he want to evolve the human race so badly?
Honestly, they should have made the Prototype 2 game story into that of the comic books to bridge the story gap, then the 3rd game could have had this story, making the series a proper trilogy and Alex wouldn't seem like such a dick, it would have been awesome to see Alex's character grow and develop to hate humanity until the cliffhanger ending, then be able to put him down in Prototype 3
It's amazing how salty everyone is that Alex lost, BUT FINALLY, a logical post from someone who knows what happened, thank you for restoring my faith in humanity.
Donald Norris Well i will try to summarize it as best I can.
After the events of Prototype 1, Mercer just wanted to leave New York, so he decides to travel the world, and on his journey he killed many mass murderers and drug lords and other criminals, etc. After a while he goes and rents a cabin up north from a girl named Autumn and her dad Flint, and they are nice people but Flint's former business partner keeps coming over to stir up trouble and take Flint's land. Alex, who was falling in love with Autumn and wanted to protect her and her father, then goes to infiltrate Zurich's base and consumes him. But after absorbing his memories he learns that Zurich and Flint were involved with tons of murders and other bad stuff, and he rushes back to the cabin to kill Flint and protect Autumn. After killing him he then went to Autumn and asked her if she would be willing to leave with him, and then he went to find a stash of the money he accumulated, only to find Autumn had already stolen it. She then shot him in the head, but he healed instantly and consumed her. After seeing how the woman he loved didn't care about anyone but herself he decided that alongside all of the terrible things he had seen over his travels humanity was terrible and didn't deserve to exist.

I think it was because they wanted Alex to be fast, because his armor does reduce his mobility. I've always preferred the sheild in prototype 1. Didn't like the loss of mobility with the armor.

One of my favorite boss fights ever. This fight is just epic it's a shame it's stuck on the rooftop only I would've liked to see them knock eachother of the building and fight in the streets or the park.

it actually makes sense that Alex was turned into a villain. I remember a cutscene in Prototype 1 where he's talking to Cross (who was the Supreme Hunter in disguise at the time). After killing several Leader Hunters to rescue Dana, the creature asks Alex about the likelihood of existing other "leaders" still loose in the city, to which Alex replies: "No, they are all dead. Except me." with a malicious tone. Considering the human Alex died and the virus took over his body, maybe this is a "side effect" of him becoming the virus: an urge to infect. Or it could simply be his sociopathic personality.
of course, the comics tell a different story, in which Alex simply grew weary with what's wrong with humanity, but still...

The thing is that this the virus. There was no alex mercer in prototype 1.
The virus was already sentient enough to become a human, it just had the capability to do something more. By prototype 1, it was just remembering what happened.
If you give a human with the virus' power, its likely they will also do this. By prototype 2, the virus still considered itself to be a human albeit it just thinks he is an evolved or improved human.

That and you can use the sheild to deflect most of his attacks until the hammerfists comes in, and you can just jump high in the air and do an air attack with no consequence. The fight was ridiculously easy, even on the hardest difficulty you'd have no problems with this

marco baldi Yeah idk man, I try not to think about it. They literally destroyed the game franchise, not just Alex, for me. Not everyone is going to out and get the comics. I like to think the game ended right after the first lol.
But I'll give credit where it's due. The music in the second one was really good. And the cinematic scenes were very well done. The story, however, was beyond retarded.

It's obvious Mercer wanted Heller to win. Mercer didn't even bother to use his armor, among other abilities. Alex was holding back. That, and if Heller did manage to win and consume Alex, then Heller would know everything that Alex knows. About Blackwatch, about the virus, about the Evolved. On top of all this, Alex had consumed countless intelligent people, and those people are now apart of Heller. It was part of Alex Mercer's plan to share his knowledge with Heller. Heller has now become a new Alex Mercer, but with a different perspective.
Oh, and for the record, Alex Mercer isn't dead. His arms were sliced clean off, and Mercer has a regenerative ability, right? Heller did consume Alex, but not all of him. Alex's arms are probably still laying around somewhere waiting for some DNA to come along and help them regrow.
As I said, this is all apart of Alex Mercer's plan. He wouldn't willing give up his life unless he had something planned.
What happened to make Mercer so weak? One dose of Critical Pain would have ended this fight in five seconds.
the track for this battle is so badass, I love it so much
what would have been a better story for this game is that Alex is still the protagonist, trying to stop gentek and blackwatch. And when he said its a bioweapons test, that could have been part of the plot, Alex putting a stop to it all just like he did the 1st game. As for heller, they both could end up being unlikely allies. Alex gave turned him into an evolved, but instead he could doing it to save his life though he had a fixation on him.
Well...Technically "Alex" or the Virus was already slowly going sadistic at the nearing end of the game

I just finished playing Prototype 2 and looking at the comments, people greatly underestimate James Heller and his combat abilities and how powerful he would have become over the course of the game.
It seems that heller has grown more popular over the years since the release of this game. I always fw heller more... He was a much more complex character then mercer, plus he was honorable

I had a bit of fun with this game, even if it had a lot of negatives. But the gore, the trash talking and Alex and James' dialogue before the fight is hilarious.
I also love the fact that the dialogue is based on who's winning.

This game in an open environment with at least seven other players. Imagine the carnage.

One thing I like about Prototype 2 more than 1, a less immoral story. I just finished the game and I was very satisfied with the ending. One thing that Heller has over Mercer, something worth fighting for. Heller FTW.
Finally someone who agrees with me! Alex in the first game didn't make any moral decisions besides the decision between "murder everyone" and "murder everyone and eat them afterwards" and the game still tries to make him look like he's the victim. His personality was actually very incoherent. At one time i was running over civilians with a Tank and Alex was like "Gawrsh i hope this is the right thing to do!", as if he was Mr. Bean trying to be a mass murderer.
That's the only thing. But he's selfish. He ricked his life only in sense of saving his daughter, not humanity or the town. If it wasn't Dana who forced him, if there wasn't Alex who took his daughter.. Then we would't see him doing anything.

Even though this ending is weird, prototype 3 would have massive potential for story and gameplay. Now we just need a new protagonist. Somebody badass.

Well i don't think mercer has gone evil, just mad, if you remember what he said from the dialogue, he wants to give everyone the same powers. This is probably the result of devouring so much memories and the only thing running in his head is pure logic.
