swasey1952 You are an idiot. People buy plasma screens for image quality, not resolution. That said, they have better motion picture resolution, which is a measure of clarity with motion. Since there are no 4K OLEDs or CRTs, I would rather have a 1080p plasma any day of the week. That will change as soon as OLED 4K screens hit the market, but for now 4K is pretty stupid because it limits you to LCD.
And just like the Kuro, this TV's also defunct :( I picked up the 2013 model last year and I am glad I did. I almost wish I had picked up two of them, I am really kicking myself because they sell for 3x the MSRP now.
swasey1952 Wow a lot of dots. That's you're idea of a good TV? What's the blacks like? What's the movie like watching experience like on that crude-edged-pixel machine?
Image burn doesnt exsist anymore for plasmas, first off something happens its called image retention, itll only occur for 10 to 15 minutes after u unpuase the movie after haveing it thrre for 5 hours. Play the white bar option in the settings for 30 minutes if u do get it. Plasmas to avoid geting that rentention to occour has the still image move slightly every milisecound soo very unlikely your going to get it unless ur neglecting ur tv
Jim, you should -really- take a look at the Panasonic TC-P65VT50 before it leaves the studio. Colors are incredible, especially the blacks... you'll be so ready to upgrade!
Can you do a how to episode on the calibration you were talking about.. maybe define the terms, and tell us in more detail what exactly we are looking at, and what you did.
It was announced at CES earlier this year that we COULD start seeing 4k/8k HDTVs released end of this year or early next year, BUT, there is NO content to deliver those resolutions so those displays are going to be reserved for commercial purposes until the mainstream gets a hold of processing those resolutions, which could take a few years after the fact. Dont hold your breath for UHD resolutions yet.
does it have up conversion of lower res content? just bought a lg 47lm6200 and even when playing my old dvds the picture looks a lot sharper than my smaller 32 inch sony tv, i love that feature.
@VanSanProductions Higher resolution on a smaller screen typically doesnt do anything. People get this notion that because they get a slightly better screen that they'll see a major difference, which its actually only very slightly. Anyone can have a higher than 1080 resolution, just change the settings in your desktop background, but the MEDIA will not be above 1080.
I had a PN51D8000 with with huge problems. Was thinking to get the E8000 but heard its actually worse. Probably why you having hard time getting settings. Try AVS forums
Does this tv have lag when playing games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band? Or lag in games like FPS shooters or racing games?? Would be nice if you guys would discuss this.
@hungoverontues in your opinion, But the doesnt change the fact that the best tv currently in 2012 is the Sharp Elite and I happily gave up a 65in Panasonic ST30 for a 60in Sharp 847u. Which the 847u has way better picture to me, but i do miss my extra 5 inchs...
Depends on the HDTV you bought a year ago. This will probably look a lot better than a cheap HDTV, especially if you watch a lot of Blu-ray movies. ESPN highlights from across the room while you're doing something else... not so much!
@rotor13 Wow, Thats hard to believe... But personal choice is whats its all about. Yeah, i agree its not the best menu but its better than a lot of other companies...
I'll take my Sharp 844U 80 inch over any TV. I just don't see how you could get a better picture. If you can it can't be much better. For the size ill take mine.
Plasma 4K is not practical. They had a hard enough time making the transition from 720p to 1080p, sadly. A 4K PDP would have to be ridiculously large - on the order of hundred+ inches. This is the same reason PDP has never made its way below ~40 inches. It is the best affordable image quality for the time being, but it has a lot of issues and OLED is going to replace PDP for videophiles on a budget eventually. Kind of have to snatch up the model 1 year newer than this ASAP though, because it is discontinued. It is going to be the new Kuro, the TV that all videophiles covet for years to come.
@VanSanProductions UHD screens wont really be made public unless networks and production companies make the switch to new cameras for UHD and those are really expensive. It was expensive enough for everyone to make the switch to HD, now they want UHD? Not going to say impossible, but highly unlikely. 4k/8k would be suited for broadcasting on "jumbo-tron" like at a sports event or a convention like E3 and such.
Sony has released an Ultra HDTV 84 in. Resolution of 3,840 pixels by 2,160 pixels -- almost four times that of today's best HD televisions. XBR-84X900 4K LED TV for preorder from $24,999.99 Only problem is there is no 4k contentent currently available, so Sony will be providing content via internet to tv hardrive for viewing.
It features 5 watt speakers on either side with a 10 watt subwoofer (totalling 20 watts). Some sound bars are around 150 watts. My Pioneer undermounted speaker on my Kuro totals at 36 watts. Don't be fooled into thinking the sound here for this TV is good by what he's saying: he's comparing it to a lot of junk speakers in flat panels.
Flat panel speakers are damn near useless. If its possible to get tolerable sound, then that is better than most. I have sound bases for the living room TV and bedroom TV already personally.
can the average person see the difference between this and a tv you bought a year ago? Im starting to think this is for perfectionist, can you really tell the difference when you are a couple of feet away?
I mount my tv to the wall. Even with the stand there is no such thing as one foot, let alone 2-3 feet. If you buy your tv based on the thinness of the set then you are using it as a status symbol. As for heat, I sit 8 feet away. Any heat produced has no effect.
Actually not really.... I paid $3600 through various discounts and from previously having other top-tier Samsung products. Where are you seeing it for $2600? Price drops are not indicative of having lesser quality.... it means they are trying to move products to make room for next years line. Which is in tune with announcements made at CES earlier this year.... sheesh. Do some research.
isn't it kinda rediculous to show how the tv looks on youtube... the resolution can only get as good as the monitor or screen you're looking at in on. I understand you can tell a bit of the difference especially if they're showing a crappy tv next to it but it's still kinda stupid.
One persons great tv is another persons average tv.depends what you want.i dont have a top end tv but am very happy with it.i own the Panasonic TX42A400B.excellent blacks and image.sound from the onboard speakers is average to be honest but my surround is used for everything but terrestrial broadcasting.reviewers and so called experts are for helping you buy the tv that is best for you not what they say is best.
I want as thin a screen as possible. I dont like Plasma's. I already paid $5000 for the new Samsung 65" UN65ES8000F a few weeks ago. Money isnt a problem for me.
Ummm... I don't mount my TV's to a wall because I rent my place and I can't put any holes in the walls per my agreement.... I have a TV stand in my bedroom, and from the wall to the front of my stand is roughly 3feet. But that was ALSO nearly a year ago.... where I now own my own home and have a much better TV now. I sorry if critical thinking isn't you're strong suit when picking an old comment to reply to.
nope, far away you wont notice the difference. They market it as being innovative so people will buy it. Don't get me wrong I love a clear picture on my screen but you really can't tell when far away, they all look the same.
trust me i changed it 2 best quality n best quality looks like shit sd tv broadcast looks like hd compared 2 it im in the uk maybe hd aint available here yet even asked peeps on my ps3 friends list who use it a lot they said no
I dont like plasma..... And my current living situation does not make it attractive to have such a large stand that sticks out 2-3 feet from the wall. Having a near paper thin HDTV suits my tastes and living conditions and I dont not use it as a status symbol, because I dont brag to people how awesome my TV is. Thats what my cars are for. I dont like plasmas for their high cost at the beginning and the amount of heat they put off. Heat is a major issue for me
This is the offspring of the Pioneer Plasma Kuro's, which are still the standard by which all TV's are measured against.
swasey1952 LMFAO whyusomadbrah?
swasey1952 You are an idiot. People buy plasma screens for image quality, not resolution. That said, they have better motion picture resolution, which is a measure of clarity with motion. What website did you find those calibrations for the color?
true story. the fart - and reaction - at 5:08 is one of the greatest achievements in the history of mankind.
Can you do a how to episode on the calibration you were talking about.. maybe define the terms, and tell us in more detail what exactly we are looking at, and what you did.

Panasonic VT60 is the new king of HDTV
does it have up conversion of lower res content? just bought a lg 47lm6200 and even when playing my old dvds the picture looks a lot sharper than my smaller 32 inch sony tv, i love that feature.
Holyshit that calibrating software looks awesome. What is it and how much??
@VanSanProductions Higher resolution on a smaller screen typically doesnt do anything. People get this notion that because they get a slightly better screen that they'll see a major difference, which its actually only very slightly. Anyone can have a higher than 1080 resolution, just change the settings in your desktop background, but the MEDIA will not be above 1080.
Hey, great vid. I just wanted to know if the CalMAN auto calibration will work with TXP42ST50(uk model). Thanks in advance
Would an amature that just wants to calibrate his TV be able to use spectracal's software? Is there a consumer version of this?
I had a PN51D8000 with with huge problems. Was thinking to get the E8000 but heard its actually worse. Probably why you having hard time getting settings. Try AVS forums

Robert Heron,
A Real HDTV expert
when are the 4k tvs out?
@hungoverontues in your opinion, But the doesnt change the fact that the best tv currently in 2012 is the Sharp Elite and I happily gave up a 65in Panasonic ST30 for a 60in Sharp 847u. Which the 847u has way better picture to me, but i do miss my extra 5 inchs...
How do i calibrate my P65vt50 with auto calibration? where can i find it?
if apple can fit higher that 1080p and much smaller screens, there is nothing except "commercialization" stopping them from putting it out right?
Im more interested in the OLED displays said to come out early next year.
Any problem with burn ins\ir ?
I have a PN51E8000 But I cant find any good picture settings online.
please do show some different video games from xbox 360 and ps3 on these tvz as gaming has also become a major reason for making choices b/w tvzzz,
yeah TEKHD, we the black are delightful :)
Hows the input lag on this tv?
Tekzilla,
Aren't the Sharp Elites better?
There's a capital one ad @ 2:09
Thanks for the review. Very nice TV!
Depends on the HDTV you bought a year ago. This will probably look a lot better than a cheap HDTV, especially if you watch a lot of Blu-ray movies. ESPN highlights from across the room while you're doing something else... not so much!
i want this tv, has anyone done any gaming on it if so how is the ir/ burn in
NICE. Thanks robert.
Could someone please confirm support of exFAT on the VT50
If you think the panasonic VT50 is too expensive. You can get the ST50 which
What's the name of men in red t shirt ?
@rotor13 Look at the Sharp Elite then.... i would buy one in a heartbeat if i could.
Hi Rick from uk love the show
That fart at 5:08 and his face after that *priceless* xD
The new Plasma's, especially from Panasonic are virtually bulletproof.....you should have no issues with that tv.
were is sell for under $2000 please i want buy one
I know Plasma is supposed to give the best over all picture, but I prefer a LCD.
4K HDTVs won't be in showrooms this year. Probably not even next year. Content will be even farther out!
2014 now, any 4k equivalent?????
Plasma 4K is not practical. They had a hard enough time making the transition from 720p to 1080p, sadly. A 4K PDP would have to be ridiculously large - on the order of hundred+ inches. anyways it was a good review appreciated it
blacks always look nice when surrounded by light colours ;-)

Guys, I'd love to hear about some great tv's that don't have wifi, bluetooth, or 3d.
I look at my tv from the front, not the side. You got ripped.
yhi cant afford thats its litteraly a choice between a evo and this tv. I'll be content with 1080p for a while longer

why all the fuss about 4K tvs????what are you gonna play on them? bluray goes to 1080p am i missing something???
yes in deed.

Panasonic all the way!!
They do....its called sharpness level......
Actually not really.... I paid $3600 through various discounts and from previously having other top-tier Samsung products. Where are you seeing it for $2600?

best TV ever, but ST50 is amazing.....

ST50 vs VT50 this is good fight......
i say african American
5:06 look at his face hahahaahaha
i wont buy anither vera my vt20 from 2010 has major burn in issues
The Sharp Elite is still the best in 2012...
Dont care for the Elite, I dont like Sharp's menu system either
nope, far away you wont notice the difference. They market it as being innovative so people will buy it. Don't get me wrong I love a clear picture on my screen but you really can't tell when far away, they all look the same.
LG LM960v is so much better! This Panasonic is flickering and 2500Hz doesn't help. After 15min watching VT50 my eyes hurts!
i say human
$4300? A bargain.
The Samsung UN65ES8000F is garbage. Its already been cit down to $2600 because of the unifomity and banding problems. You paid $5000 for that? Sheesh
good luck paying 8500$ for one. Id much rather pay 2000$ for a tv with about the same picture quality.
hahahahaha i keep repeating that part hahahah XDDDD
Fart at 5:08 :)
I have a TH-P50ST60A, it is a horrible TV, permenant burn in after 2 hours of gaming, I will never buy another plasma again.
trust me i changed it 2 best quality n best quality looks like shit sd tv broadcast looks like hd compared 2 it im in the uk maybe hd aint available here yet even asked peeps on my ps3 friends list who use it a lot they said no
LMAO
Wow, im first viewer. That never happens.
I dont like plasma.....
