Was about 10 years back, arriving on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha at about 4.00am. Was the only passenger in BC and had no idea what was happening when seeing a bank of lights at the bottom of the stairs (tarmac arrival, not airbridge). Shaking hands with all manner of people including, after reaching the terminal, the immigration guys and the customs.personnel. Had been flying from Cairo, no sleep and just wanting to reach my hotel for a rest. The irony being that operations didn't actually start at the new terminal for a few more months as all facilities were not yet ready, but that date was considered auspicious for the 'official' 'opening' ceremony. Just my luck!!!
