I see what you mean, but despite being dropped on Hiroshima, do you know that Japan still refused to surrender until the third day after? Essentially, until another was dropped on Nagasaki.
If the USA had chosen a relatively desolate area of Japan, that would have reduced the likelihood of achieving the desired outcome (Japanese surrender) as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, I read in history that Japan was warned several days ahead of the bombing when US planes dropped thousands of leaflets warning them to surrender or else US could be forced to use a powerful weapon the likes of which had never been seen before. Japan refused.
I'm not trying to be a US apologist, though. Stalingrad apart, the Pacific theatre of World War II had some of the bloodiest battles. I wish none of these happened. I have met people from many parts of the world, including Japan and the USA. Without exception, all were wonderfully loving people.
We must all continue to work together to foster the spirit of love among all mankind and ensure a peaceful future for our world, devoid of wars.
The fact that Japan and the USA are very strong allies today is particularly heartwarming to see and a positive example for all.

It makes sense that the bombing could be a show of strength to the USSR because at that point in time, operation paperclip was well underway. It could be argued that the Cold War had begun already by then.
On the other hand, Imperial Japan had enough might to be considered an independent, legitimate threat to the USA in the Pacific region.
I agree with you that peace is hinged upon the fear of mutual destruction... but only relative peace, not absolute. Else, we won't have trade or cyber 'wars' etc in the world today.

Air Force One designation is only while the president is aboard - thus any plane carrying the president will be designated as Air Force One. An airplane carrying the vice president is called Air Force Two.
