Still a great ending to a great game. Many other final fantasies either throw a curve ball and have a random final boss that feels like just another monster. But this one I feel, gave that closure to Cloud's character. He always said his main reason for continuing was his vendetta against Sephiroth. One on one, no bullshit spells, bumped up graphics, and no one else to interfere. Still one of my favorite final battles. I'm sure others will disagree with me, but it's still one of my favs.

Just had this happen, god damnit. Couldn't give me 10 seconds to enjoy the moment 😂. But maybe it's better that way, Cloud's like "THAT'S a hit?" and kills Sephiroth with a ~2000HP counter. Kind of makes more sense if he's been weakened!
A fun fact, this final battle with Sephiroth actually features a higher res, more detailed battle model for Cloud than in the regular battles....a nice little detail i didn't realize until many years of dwelling on teh nets reading about FFVII facts.

This fight was all a mental conflict between Cloud's true identity and the "mental" Sephiroth whom stood as his idol, his enemy, his controller, and his obstacle. By defeating "Sephiroth", Cloud regains his true self. You never truly fight him; Cloud killed him years ago and he stayed dead whilst controlling a Jenova whom was mascaraing as him.
I agree but two things: "whom" is an objective pronoun, and you're using it as a subjective one (where "who" would be correct); and, if you live outside the UK, you shouldn't be using whilst because it makes you sound extremely pompous.
Nope, actually you meet with Sephiroth in the North cave, he's physically in comatose but his spirit remains strong bathed in the life stream, helped by Jenova cells. He's the one you fight twice in the end, basically we only meet him two times in the game. Concerning his other apparitions there are several interpretations, it could be Jenova mental projection or him doing so from there. If we take it simply it's both his spirit and Jenova capacities as a plague
I still remember when I saw this for the first time. The two foes staring each other down, the camera slowly panning in on them. Flashes of close-ups on both of them. The understanding of the long, bloody history between Cloud and Sephiroth, and how after all the battles, all the heartache it took to get here... ...THIS was where it was all going to be settled, once and for all.
The first time this happened I absolutely went insane. I was 18 and had played this for four days straight, and did not see this coming, at all. It blew my mind and is still in the top 5 greatest moments in gaming for me.
Imagine you just defeated the one-winged Sephiroth only to find out there's a one on one last battle. I remember it well, me and my brothers were like no not him again. When the command menu appears I pressed circle as fast as I can not even reading the name of the startlingly one option limit break. The thrill we all felt we Cloud start attacking that mo-fu multiple time has quenched our revenge.
I remember getting to the ending for the first time and having the feeling as they looked at each other that they no longer hated each other, but rather resigned themselves to the fact that only one of them was walking out of this fight alive. Totally epic moment. Nothing has beaten it in my 40 years of gaming.
I remember this ending well, it was epic and if gave the player this feeling that he did it, that it's the end and You killed that bastard. Now games show You a middle-finger and the ending is just a opening to the sequel.

Sephiroth: *has 1 HP and has only 1 attack that can take away almost 97% of your current HP* Cloud: *has 9999 HP and can only perform Omnislash, dealing a maximum total of 149985 damage* Yeah, It's safe to assume that Cloud prevails here.
Kinda interesting how Sephiroth is shown holding and using his sword with his right hand throughout the whole game but only here (iirc) he uses it as a left-handed. I'm kind of proud of my left-handedness myself and I knew he was left-handed before playing the game, so it called my attention how he never actually held it with his supposed dominant hand. Seeing him finally do so made the final encounter extra emotional to me.
When I look back I have to say that Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy 7 have the greatest final blows to the main enemy and outro and game as a whole .
These 2 games defined my childhood, I had a 64 and played Zelda at my house, my best friend had a PS and we played VII at his house. It's easy to see why they're regarded as 2 of the best games ever made. Both absolute masterpieces and undoubtedly in anyone who had played Both's top 10's.

Just FYI, it's a scripted sequence. It's impossible for you to lose - Sephiroth only takes 1/6 of Cloud's HP. Cloud dodges or blocks the rest, and has access to Omnislash each turn whether you earned it in the game or not. It represents the final battle of wills between the two in the lifestream itself. Just goes to show. Sephiroth is awesome, but Cloud would make one hell of a good monk.

This......was so tense.....the flashing between the characters.....and the brutal Omnislash Cloud performs to end the stare-off between him and Sephiroth.....the perfect end.

This fight scene is to show Cloud's control over his own mind now (which is why he can use Omnislash regardless of whether or not he actually knows it. In his own mind he is now all powerful).

As much as I find Sephiroth and FFVII overrated as a whole, I have to admit that this last duel between Cloud and Sephiroth one of the most epic moments from the Final Fantasy series. The way the camera randomly pans at their faces as the battle starts + the trademark Sephiroth theme playing during this fight makes it a pretty epic and memorable experience.

@bobdolesux321 Sorry, but he can't win, well, I say that but I suppose if you throw bombs at yourself it might work, but Sephiroth himself is incapable of killing you, while he can attack Cloud, his attack will only ever do (sorry, three key is bust so i'll have to write like this) Thirty One/Thirty Two damage to Cloud's health rounded down, if Cloud is at Thirty One or less hp, he will only ever do 0 damage.
I can't believe how weak Cloud is in AC. I mean, tossing Sephiroth off the ledge in the mako reactor, whoops his ass here with seemingly little to no effort... theeeeen getting his ass handed to him all over the place after he supposedly "got stronger" in AC. And AC Complete is even worse.
**SPOILERS** How can Sephiroth be alive?!?!?!?!?! In Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Zack kills Sephiroth in the mako reactor but in this game Sephiroth is alive. Since Crisis Core happened 2 years ( i think) before this ff7 game, doesnt make sense at all.What happened did Sephiroth somehow get reborn or what? Never did understand their logic in that department.
@@Through2You Not exactly. Cloud came running in and then Sephiroth was the one who stabbed HIM. Then Cloud tossed him over into the reactor. Sephiroth's body was destroyed, but but he refused to diffuse into the Lifestream completely due to having a strong enough will (other entities in the game, such as the spirits at the Temple of the Ancients and the Beginner's Hall guys, similarly willed themselves to remain in existence). Then his spirit gained knowledge and power, and he started reconstructing himself at the North Crater.

If you play crisis core then its just goes along to the advent children.. if you play ff 7 too then its just goes along to the advent children then.. its not congruent to the story.. they just make crisis core to make a more BANG so that you can understand more if you watch advent children.
Which makes this one of the easiest bosses in history. The easiest one is Gogo in FF5, since you don't even have to do anything against him, but this one is a close second.

I really hope in the remake you actually get a one on one battle with sephiroth rather than this

+Iqbalx1 The problem is that this fight is in Cloud's head. Sephiroth's last gambit after his defeat is to try and control Cloud. This fight scene is to show Cloud's control over his own mind now (which is why he can use Omnislash regardless of whether or not he actually knows it. In his own mind he is now all powerful).
no, i honestly forgot alot about this game but i clearly remember, sephiroth hit me and it pissed cloud off and that bar that makes your special go up or whatever went to max and it did counter with omnislash mate. idk what you're talking about.. gtfo.
yeah but it would suck ass if you got this far to the end and just die. One winged angel is actually pretty damn hard if you're not well equipted.

You are wrong, he did die for good. Cloud didn't fight sephiroth in the "real" world, at the beginning they show him falling in the "life-stream"

As much as I find Sephiroth and FFVII overrated as a whole, I have to admit that this last duel between Cloud and Sephiroth one of the most epic moments from the Final Fantasy series.
The way the camera randomly pans at their faces as the battle starts + the trademark Sephiroth theme playing during this fight makes it a pretty epic and memorable experience.
does this even count as a boss fight? or is safer sephiroth the official last boss?

Ok that fight fucked me up I did not know you need to hit ominslash right now but he attacked and I counter and he died I was recording for my phone today it was my first time finishing the game

@bobdolesux321 Sorry, but he can't win, well, I say that but I suppose if you throw bombs at yourself it might work, but Sephiroth himself is incapable of killing you, while he can attack Cloud, his attack will only ever do (sorry, three key is bust so i'll have to write like this) Thirty One/Thirty Two damage to Cloud's health rounded down, if Cloud is at Thirty One or less hp, he will only ever do 0 damage.
I can't believe how weak Cloud is in AC. I mean, tossing Sephiroth off the ledge in the mako reactor, whoops his ass here with seemingly little to no effort... theeeeen getting his ass handed to him all over the place after he supposedly "got stronger" in AC. And AC Complete is even worse.
**SPOILERS** How can Sephiroth be alive?!?!?!?!?! In Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Zack kills Sephiroth in the mako reactor but in this game Sephiroth is alive. Since Crisis Core happened 2 years ( i think) before this ff7 game, doesnt make sense at all.What happened did Sephiroth somehow get reborn or what? Never did understand their logic in that department.
777busterblade Zack didn't kill Sephiroth. Cloud stabbed him and threw him down a mako reactor. Jenova's power preserved him.
@@Through2You Not exactly. Cloud came running in and then Sephiroth was the one who stabbed HIM. Then Cloud tossed him over into the reactor.
Sephiroth's body was destroyed, but but he refused to diffuse into the Lifestream completely due to having a strong enough will (other entities in the game, such as the spirits at the Temple of the Ancients and the Beginner's Hall guys, similarly willed themselves to remain in existence). Then his spirit gained knowledge and power, and he started reconstructing himself at the North Crater.
i heard that if you wait awhile sephiroth will att you, and he will leave you with 1 hp and you automatically use omnislash!....i unno if its true though

Its just a different story then...
I mean its like this..
Crisis core / FF 7 = Advent children...
If you play crisis core then its just goes along to the advent children..
if you play ff 7 too then its just goes along to the advent children then..
its not congruent to the story..
they just make crisis core to make a more BANG so that you can understand more if you watch advent children.
Which makes this one of the easiest bosses in history.
The easiest one is Gogo in FF5, since you don't even have to do anything against him, but this one is a close second.
