Matt Dillon and Diane Lane are both wonderful actors and wonderful people. I had the privilege of meeting Matt when I was 12 years old and he was a kind, humble man. Would love to meet Diane Lane, too. Their movies together were a huge part of my inspiration growing up.
@@davidlynds9483 more likely because that person hasn’t seen most of the work. He’s in let alone all the old stuff he was in, which is why they consider him underrated
Mickey Rourke had surgery to repair damage from Boxing not the ageing process - his acting talent though is undeniable. Dillon is a wonderful actor as well - but Diane Lane would be kidding herself if she didn't her looks got her 90% of her acting work.
Masterpiece ! The vibe of the whole movie, the calmness of Mickey Rourke character and he Charisma of Mickey of course, the directing, the editing, absolutely perfect.
"California? California's like a - yeah, California's like a beautiful, wild - beautiful, wild girl on heroin who's high as a kite, thinkin' she's on top of the world - not knowin' she's dying, even if you show her the marks."......sticks with me
You're not gay just because you do say the same thing about Dillon, y'know. But you're right, fantastic movie. My fave by Coppola. The "acute perception" seen may very well be my favorite movie scene ever.
yeah I just recently found out this film was not received well when it was released, which seems crazy to me. so happy that it got recognition over time.
@@yb32 Part of it was the jump cuts that were in the fight scenes that really were distracting, basically made it look silly. Put in by the studio because of a huge backlash against fights in movies influencing real life. The second VHS version on omits this restoring the scenes to how they were originally done by FFC. That said the almost four hour directors cut has never been released, while there is a legend of an eight hour version of the film. Tom Waits told David Letterman he had a copy of the eight hour version, although I'm not sure if that was just Tom pulling Dave's leg. Stewart Copland ended up with around 12 hours of unused stuff from the score, which he wanted to release online only the rights holders wouldn't let him. He mentioned this in an interview with a music magazine back around the time of The Police reunion.
@@Djarra Man, I'd love to see the 8-hour version and especially hear the 12-hours of music by Copeland. I listened to the original sound-track so much - mostly cruising around in my car - that I wore out the cassette.
I was really blown away on how different I had expected it to be. It truly translated the scenes so well, and was able to convey the message of the book quite clearly.
I was young when I saw Rumble Fish in the theater so I didn’t really “get it”. . . . BUT, it was the first soundtrack I ever heard that literally gave me goosebumps. I had never heard anything so hauntingly beautiful.
Probably my all-time favorite movie. I had no clue that scene was so technical and complicated. Coppola is definitely a genius. Stewart Copeland's soundtrack in incredible also.
When this movie came out we didn't know much about *Mickey Rourke* as the brother.(my friends and I were 17) we were like who's this guy stealing Matt's scenes?
I completely understand why Dillon tried to buy a gun. Tulsa is rough as hell! I spent some time living on the streets there. Not a fun memory. Thugs and druggies everywhere. And the cops were mostly a$$holes, especially to the homeless.I did, however, tag "Motorcycle Boy Reigns" on every surface I was able to with a sharpie. 😃
Of course I have like 10 greatest movies of all time but on most days this is the greatest movie ever made! Above all Coppola's movies -the only one equal by measure of his films is maybe Apocalypse Now , this is even better than The Godfather ; due to the fact its so low budget it should give every Director who dreams of making a classic film hope -this one is evidence you don't need a huge budget just a good story line , good players great shots & editing and a soundtrack that matches .
I just think it’s weird that MD talks about “Frances’s idea” of a long out of body experience as opposed to his own idea of a short one, as if it wasn’t the idea of SE Hinton. The novel has him floating above looking down at his body…
for me, the out-of-body scene was the only scene I disliked, very hammy I thought, and still think..... everything else I loved, and still do..... surprised my dvd hasn't worn out! (^_-) ditto all that vis-à-vis Grand Canyon... the out-of-body scene was clunky, loved and love the rest....
This book is more symbolic and it really isn’t supposed to make sense. The Outsiders was just a regular story. I think Coppola was trying to use the black and white for this film to be artistic and show symbolism. In fact, there’s one scene in this movie where everything else is black and white except for the Rumble Fish in fish tanks at the pet store.
Libby Saylor the outsiders was a real story it's based off S.E Hinton pov of life and the beginning of the outsiders is a real event that happened to her friend.
God damn Matt Dillon AND Diane Lane have aged incredibly well!

Still a knockout! Lane and Dillon were a helluva duo back then.

noo wayyyyy lucky!
Wow! You are so fortunate.
Every cinematographer should see this film over and over, you'll be deeper.
I read it cost $40 million to make.
Matt Dillon...way underrated actor!
haha that is ridiculous. He's a huge star. Why is there ALWAYS someone claiming a well known and popular actor, movie or band is "underrated"???
@@davidlynds9483 more likely because that person hasn’t seen most of the work. He’s in let alone all the old stuff he was in, which is why they consider him underrated

If only Mickey Rourke had let himself age as gracefully as these two.
