    Hey Rene, can you revisit your ISO section? I'm confused... I have always used higher ISO inside, lower numbers outside. That's the first time I hear the opposite...
    Thanks!

      Hey! Yeah! I’m gonna go deeper into it when talking about the exposure triangle in a future video (gonna take a bit of time to make that one) but basically, the concept is to shoot at a lower ISO inside because you usually don’t have as much light, so to get the cleaner image with no/less noise, the lower ISO will give you that. But like I said in the video, you will then need to light your scene. That’s how movies do it, they set the camera at a lower ISO 320-640 for interior scenes and light. But in the video world we don’t always have that option. We don’t always carry cinema lights with us 😅 so the other option is to use a camera with dual native ISO and shoot at the second ISO, it’s not 100% clean but better than shooting at other higher ISO’s
      If that’s not an option for your camera, look at what your Fstop is on your camera. Hopefully you can open up the iris more and let in more light. For interior stuff I find a fast lens at 1.4 works nicely for when you don’t have control of the lighting.
      Hope that helps! Like I said il go deeper in the video about exposure triangle :)

    What do you find more important for exposure ---- getting your aperture right or your ISO right?

    • @Rene_Arseneau
      @Rene_Arseneau  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s a hard one, I think it depends the threshold of your camera’s ISO. I’m working on another video at the moment where il go over the Exposure triangle more into detail. But when you don’t have the option to light, Ideally you figure out beforehand what your max ISO setting is on your camera and how far you can push it and still recover it in post. You can fix ISO with a denoising software at the cost of loss of sharpness, but you can’t really change the depth of field in post. Sooo I would say Aperture over ISO. BUT there is always an alternative on the horizon, where you can find a compromise between the two. Often by changing your angle, adding a bit of extra light, or shaping the lighting differently. I know my max ISO on my camera and if I get close to it, il adjust lighting or the scene to make it work. I find that at the end of the day, sometimes pushing for a bit more time will result in a better end result for everyone. But again not always possible so it’s good to know your camera’s limits.

    What apps would you recommend for android?

    • @Rene_Arseneau
      @Rene_Arseneau  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So the fun thing about Android is that the built in camera App is actually very good! You can already adjust most of the settings in the video from the native camera app. Since most androids have a "Pro video mode"

    how ist the native iso sony alpha 7 III and slog 3 / slog 2 or cine 4 what should i use ? Can anyone help

    • @Rene_Arseneau
      @Rene_Arseneau  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So for the A7III Your native ISO is 800 and its not official but 4000 is the "Dual Native ISO" But it's not really so it won't be as clean as 800. But at 4000 you will be much much cleaner than 1000 or 2000 ISO. Now for Slog3/2 or Cine 4, it really depends what you want to do with the footage in post. If you need something that looks good out of camera with little tweaks in color Cine 4 is great. But if you want to learn how to color correct SLog 2/3 are great to really push your image much further. I have always shot in Slog 3 on the A7SIII and Slog 2 when I had the A7SII, especially with 10BIts you can push the image a lot. I started off with Cine 4, until I learned how to color in Davinci Resolve and then started shooting only S-Log. I'm not a pro colorist, but I'm happy with what I can achieve from the Slog3. Hope that helps!

    ISO has nothing to do with the amount of light hitting the sensor! You don't get more or less light to the sensor, when you adjust the ISO. ISO is just the "sensitivity" of the sensor.
    And one more thing. You can get less noise with higher ISO. In some situations lower ISO givs you less noise, yes, but not always. If you dont can get the desired correct exposure with the lower ISO, you will end up with more noise. Therefore you pump up the ISO to get less noise.
    I appreciate the video, but plz don't teach beginners wrong from the beginning.
    Look at this video, where Simo d'Entremont explains ISO:
    th-cam.com/video/qYm2Mt9cEn8/w-d-xo.html

    • @Rene_Arseneau
      @Rene_Arseneau  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey great comment! Yes you are totally right, I misspoke on how ISO is the amount of light hitting the sensor. What I meant to say is how ISO is the numerical value associated to the sensitivity of the camera sensor. So it does not affect the light entering the image, that is the Aperture (il make clear that up in my next video) and English is my second language but that is no excuse, Il make sure that the information is communicated well in the next video.
      However I don't agree with your second point. When you are working indoors, you are not going to have the appropriate amount of light to properly expose your camera at a higher ISO. And a common mistake that new Videographers will do is to bump up the ISO. And that results in more noise because the sensor is under exposed and not enough light is hitting it. Also in video we can't go under 1/50th or 1/48th of a shutter speed because of motion blur, so thats a massive advantage that photography has over video. so that's why I say when you are inside shoot at a lower ISO and when you are outside (since you have a 21K sun lighting your scene) you have the right amount of light to go at a higher ISO)
      Also one EXTREMELY important part of
      Simon d'Entremont's video that I think you misunderstood is he is talking about RAW and Photography. A lot of DSLR can not shoot in RAW and shoot in log, or a codec h.264/5 so ISO, white balance and other settings are baked into the image. So you can't "lower" your ISO in post. So not shooting at a higher ISO inside when you don't have the light, will not give you a better result. If you are shooting on a RED or Alexa it's a different situation, because those two camera's can capture RAW and have the option to lower ISO in post. But still don't get confused between video and photography those are 2 different beasts when it comes to ISO, RAW vs LOG etc...
      A great book I recommend you to read is Cinematography: Theory and Practice: For Cinematographers and Directors by Blain Brown He goes into an insane amount of details and mathematical equations on how ISO, and sensors work.
      Hope this was helpful! Really appreciate the feedback, and like I said before, Il make sure not to make a mistake on my exposure triangle video where Il really go in depth in ISO :)

    • @erik.karlsson
      @erik.karlsson 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Rene_Arseneau I agree with you, if the image is underexposed, you will end up with much noise. Therefor, if you can't alter aperture or shutter speed, you rise the ISO. Or introduce more light to the scene. Thats the advantage of indoor photography, you often can introduce more light. But not always (e.g. event photography like a concert or wedding).
      And there is huge difference in video and stills photography. In videography, you don't want to touch your ISO as easily as you do in stills photography.
