To be fair, the VSH impressions are closer to the original actors than Engineer's voice impression in Expiration Date (Note: Valve was genuinely unable to rehire Engie's voice actor for Expiration Date)
It's very weird to see those new voices considering Sniper's VA recently posted he was at Valve recording some stuf... didn't discuss what of course will that eventually come as an actual surprise? im just kinda confused. it also feels off that Valve wouldn't contact the other VAs since they even do some skits within themselves in character, so they still have it in them
These maps are AMAZING. I've played like four, all as a soldier, and I had the most fun I ever had as a Soldier! It's insane how fun this game is when there is an open sky box and a lot of vertical movement. It just feels natural, instantly helped me to get on the top with pretty nice killstreaks
2fort is one of the worst maps for two reasons 1. tight, creeping corridors and an easily-defendable choke 2. OH MY GOD HEAVY TF2 HITS HIS HEAD ON THESE SKYBOXES
I like the fan made voice lines! I like them because they fit the character, not that they sound exactly like the og voice lines. I like them a lot. I’m really really hoping the community fixes will come later.
If I recall there are rumours going around that the community fixes are pushed back because changing the engine requires a lot of testing, Source Engine's core aspects is that everything works in tandem, change one thing it may change another. We can expect to see fixes, just not at the current time probably due to the sheer amount.
Regarding the new voice lines, yes they are noticeably different when listened to, but for me at least they're close enough that in the middle of a game when there's a lot going on and I'm not focused on the specific vocal patterns, the difference is much less noticeable, if at all. Except Sniper, that one I noticed immediately.
Scout, Engie, and all the support classes stood out to me immediately. Demo and Heavy sound VERY close. Soldier sounds notably different from Rick May but passable enough, especially in his absence. It's still bizarre they included the mod's original impressions when Valve can throw their chump change money at getting the official VAs to redub them, *especially* when they've been active recently and shown they're still interested in TF2, Engie's original voice actor and ofc Rick May notwithstanding.
Agreed. I mean, the competitive mode's voice-lines (which are official) are much more jarring than the VSH ones, since they were done in 2015/2016 after all and really showed the age of the game.
Apparently because of the work involved in doing both the community fixes AND the new features for map makers that will let them do awesome custom things, the fixes are delayed, but coming soon
I have a feeling they'll polish the new Saxtol Hale mode; it just doesn't feel right, at least for me. And yeah, I'm expecting a lot of community fixes because that's what I care about the most, and all of the fixes on the workshop I upvoted and added to my favourites, hoping they'll all get added. No hate for the update; I'm happy we got some new toys to play with.
The guy who makes all the impressions is actually a youtuber, his username on the platform is McGuinnsBook and he's good at doing all 9 impressions in my opinion, he has been doing it since quite a while, but I wonder why valve wanted him instead of the voice actors because they were quite fond on making more TF2 content in the past months. Edit: VS Saxton Hale mode apparently wasn't made by Valve and rather is made purely by the community so I guess that takes a role into the reason why original voice actors couldn't be there
Community fixes are on the way. Eric Smith, one of the two devs working on TF2, stated in an email that was posted on r/tf2 that they are currently looking at community fixes right now. I fully expect to see a Summer part 2 update in a few weeks.
This is about my opinion on it too. It feels like a major update stuffed into a minor one, if that makes any sense. Like, I appreciate the maps, and from what I've played, they all play well and don't appear to be hugely buggy. But if you needed proof that Valve don't do anything for TF2, then VSH is your smoking gun. Impersonations of voice actors instead of the real deal, it broke on release, and a seeming lack of interest of making a fanfare about it. Hell, it just released at an...odd time of day. As if they wanted it out the door.
Did everyone forget that some of the VAs can barely do the character voices anymore? Rick is gone, Engie can't do it. Heavy's VA can barely do it (poor guy is in his 70s, leave him be). The most likely one would be Medic's but still.
@@corrinvondrachen1097 Heavy's VA can still do Heavy, it's Demoman he has trouble with. Spy, Pyro, Sniper, Scout, Heavy, Medic, Heavy, Saxton Hale and The Administrator are all still very much able to do their voices.

For non voice actor voice lines, they’re pretty damn good I have to say. even if they’re not the OFFICAL VA’s, I’d say they do a very serviceable job, I’d even elevate it to a “great” job
Tbf: the saxton hale community impression guy did do a fucking great job with those impressions! They sound good for the most part, and in a couple cases sound like the classes normally with slightly clearer sound quality
as far as i heard(it was on reddit so take it with a grain of hale) that everything is just community made valve just added it in. which is why the voice actors were change for this. because it was made by a fan aka the creator of saxton hale
No yeah that was how it was done. Valve didn't hire a replacement for the voice actors or anything. Those lines were part of the community mod. My point was more that Valve has the power and the contacts to easily hire the actual voice actors to redo the lines and them not doing that made it come across as amateurish on their end.
I must say that guy did a really good job with the voices, they sound really, really good, I barely can notice the difference, but I think it's disrespectful to the official Voice actors (Rest in peace Rick May).
I think it is a pretty nice thing we actually got the update, the war paints are the best they have ever been and the cosmetics are fine, the seal map is GOAT and the others too, i just dont like the Payload ones because they all are too big for their own good Also yes, i also am waiting for a day 2 update that hopefully adds all of the community fixes
I think the goal for the community is to keep expectations low and enjoy what they get. VNN said this update is by two Valve employees who worked on it on their available time and it shows.
I can't comprehend Valve's business decisions, the player count peaked at a quarter million for a game that hasn't seen an update in years and they refuse to do anything with it.
They scraped together a community update in guise of real content release. There is no one working on the team that has the passion or dedication to release a new set of weapons that need to be balanced with and against current weapons. Jungle inferno is about to be 7 years old . In 3 years that will a full decade since that last "rebalance".
@@StealingYourWiFi i actually just realized you're probably right...there's 0 passion or interest from the devs, if they were to release new weapons they would either stay completely broken or completely useless forever...it's better that we don't get any at all tbh. reksins like the awp would be cool tho
@@gerutzu575 Which is why it's hard to get excited about "content" for tf2. It's the same case drop and some new cosmetics lmao. That's fine i guess but glorifying cosmetics is no different than releasing a battlepass for this game. I'd rather see bad weapons get community balanced before we potentially bloat the roster with even more bad weapons since Valve can't balance for shit. And even then, that depends on who's idea of a re-balance is.

Glad to see Cashworks and Sulfur getting in. Cashworks had been standing around compleated for about 14 and a half years. While Sulfur is gona give Steel a run for its money with confusing players, with its koth/ad hybreed setup.
Adding a voiceline for the heavy saying "Im low on ammo" is all i ever wanted, thats my heavy update right there also they did say that they are gonna analize some of the community fixes and add them in the game so i expected to see that soon
And then spend 5 years balancing them to the point they just give up and just nerf them until they are joke weapons OR they just leave them on a completely broken state and just never touch them again.
1:44 for this you need to remember that the higher ups at valve don’t see much in TF2, And this update shot it to top 10 best sellers on steam, this was 100% a dip into the water for whats to come considering they put it on steam news and also considering the top 10 thing
By the way when versus Saxton Hale game-mode is back online again you probably could do with some bugbuster videos on him yeah well there's probably not many that is currently visible or available but you can try and see if you can find bugs with him or ones that people have encountered just wondering
Honestly just feels like, and starting to feel like this for a while now; Valve: "Heres the update! Look at all these maps! And even added in that Saxton Hale thing you guys love!" Community: "Aw man, look how many players we got now!" Everyone else: "Did ya fix anything?" Valve: " . . . bye!" Everyone & Community: "k..."
Just heard of the update from your video, and the new voice lines are really noticeable to me and hopefully if hey get enough backlash they will hire the original voice actors and redo them.

I'm pretty sure if they asked, Scout's, Sniper's, and Medic's VAs woulda *loved* to partake. iirc Sniper's VA is the irl husband of another prominent VA for Valve Games. First name Ellen I think, forget her last. Actress for Announcer, GladOS, and The Overwatch.
while I have not been able to confirm any of this, I have heard two things: first, vavle broke a lot of the bots, at least in the north america region, by implementing checks to prevent multiple accounts from connecting from the same hardware/ip address, meaning it drastically reduced how many bots can be fielded. second is that community fixes are gonna be coming in a next couple weeks as a standalone patch.
Gonna mention this now, but they fixed the MvM upgrade station bug that was being abused by bots, and which prevented you from using the upgrade station at all
The weirdest part of the voice impressions is how active the TF2 actors have been. Maybe besides Nathan and obviously Rick all the other actors could've done their parts and they have even jokingly asked for work.
apparently the community fixes have been held back because obviously they were made for what is now an older version so they're having to take the time to do regression testing.
when the vsh maps are back, that’ll probably be the best time for some community fixes to be slipped in. So if we don’t get any then, then we probably won’t get any at all
This "update" disappointed me to no end They add new taunts and hats every few weeks, the map fixes are really minimal and fit into "didn’t know there was a problem until we acknowledged that there was a problem" And overall, it disappointed me greatly.
I obviously can’t blame them for not getting Rick May, but they could’ve contacted the voice actors. I will say, the impersonation guy did pretty good, especially on the scout Imma also pretend they are gonna get the official voice actors while the VSH maps are temporarily disabled.
the community fixes are likely coming in a few days along with patches for the *new* stuff. that's a common tactic in game design which valve does regularly
I genuinely cannot think of a single reason why they wouldn't go to the actual voice actors for this. They have demonstrated time and time again that they love playing these characters. I'm very angry at Valve for this. The only voice actor I could see them reasonably changing is soldiers.
The fact that they didn’t redub Sniper’s VSH lines when John Patrick Lowrie is currently at Valve voice acting for something is a very confusing choice.
This may be too optimistic but I am hoping the community fixes will be its own update midway through the summer update because of how many were suggested in the workshop.

To be fair, the VSH impressions are closer to the original actors than Engineer's voice impression in Expiration Date
(Note: Valve was genuinely unable to rehire Engie's voice actor for Expiration Date)
engi's voice actor is distancing himself (sad)
@cewla3348 its unfortunate, but it's his choice. His career has moved away from voice acting to my understanding
It's very weird to see those new voices considering Sniper's VA recently posted he was at Valve recording some stuf... didn't discuss what of course
will that eventually come as an actual surprise? im just kinda confused. it also feels off that Valve wouldn't contact the other VAs since they even do some skits within themselves in character, so they still have it in them
It was for Dota I think
John Patrick Lowrie voices like eight characters for Dota. I wouldn't put it past him if it was for that.
Maybe it didn’t feel right to do it without Rick?
Likely for another game like Dota2
ahh :( i see
i am 100% convinced venice was made by a sniper main. First point is almost impossible to attack and everything past it is a cheap wutville copy
honestly, for the new Merc voicelines in VSH, Demo, Heavy and Engie are actually pretty spot-on.
These maps are AMAZING. I've played like four, all as a soldier, and I had the most fun I ever had as a Soldier! It's insane how fun this game is when there is an open sky box and a lot of vertical movement. It just feels natural, instantly helped me to get on the top with pretty nice killstreaks
2fort is one of the worst maps for two reasons
1. tight, creeping corridors and an easily-defendable choke
2. OH MY GOD HEAVY TF2 HITS HIS HEAD ON THESE SKYBOXES
@@cewla3348 I personally prefer indoor maps.
I also noticed Medic and Soldier immediately.
I was expecting the community fixes more than anything to be fair. I hope they come soon
Edit: VS Saxton Hale mode apparently wasn't made by Valve and rather is made purely by the community so I guess that takes a role into the reason why original voice actors couldn't be there
the janitor at valve did their best on those voices bro
Community fixes are on the way. Eric Smith, one of the two devs working on TF2, stated in an email that was posted on r/tf2 that they are currently looking at community fixes right now. I fully expect to see a Summer part 2 update in a few weeks.
i imagine the summer update was just a teaser, and all the new content (non-map) comes in a themed update.
I agree that a part 2 is really likely. Maybe early or late August.
Nice to have some actual good hats that seem to belong in the universe
Ngl that impression guy did a solid job
TF2 has been getting updates longer than any other game in video game history. The fact we get anything anymore is something we should all be very grateful about.
Bro that intro is so cool
This Is the power of Updates
Just saw you in my lobby! love your channel as well, very interesting to watch and listen to.
as of recent Eric Smith of Valve dev fame confirmed community fixes are coming but slowly
They did actually made a day 2 update! It has the fixes they promised so I would like another (possibly short) video of that day 2 update!
2:19 omg That’s me!! I remember seeing your name there but I assumed it was just someone using your name lol. It’s an honor to have fallen to your Ubersaw sir lol
Yoo The voicelines were sick! Could barely hear any difference from the original on many of the classes!
DAMN, that guy who VA'd the 9 classes (with the exceptions of Scout, Medic, and Spy) were dead on.
I like the new voice lines for some of the classes, sure they don't exactly fit with the original, but they are still well done.
the guy making those impressions is goated with the sauce, especially his demoman (i could genuinely believe they were real voicelines)
I must say that guy did a really good job with the voices, they sound really, really good, I barely can notice the difference, but I think it's disrespectful to the official Voice actors (Rest in peace Rick May).
I think it is a pretty nice thing we actually got the update, the war paints are the best they have ever been and the cosmetics are fine, the seal map is GOAT and the others too, i just dont like the Payload ones because they all are too big for their own good
Also yes, i also am waiting for a day 2 update that hopefully adds all of the community fixes
I think the goal for the community is to keep expectations low and enjoy what they get.
VNN said this update is by two Valve employees who worked on it on their available time and it shows.
I was bracing myself for Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed tier voice impressions of the mercs but that was like, more than impressive.
feel like a kid again seeing an after breakfast update video
I can't comprehend Valve's business decisions, the player count peaked at a quarter million for a game that hasn't seen an update in years and they refuse to do anything with it.
All the impressions were surprisingly solid!
Now we must all band together as a community and demand *A WEAPON UPDATE !*
They scraped together a community update in guise of real content release.
There is no one working on the team that has the passion or dedication to release a new set of weapons that need to be balanced with and against current weapons.
Jungle inferno is about to be 7 years old . In 3 years that will a full decade since that last "rebalance".
@@StealingYourWiFi Dude even if they added only a single new weapon to the game that isn't a reskin that alone would be enough to blow peoples minds
In the end valve continues to milk the "hope" out of this community and most players are dumb to realize it.
I'd rather see bad weapons get community balanced before we potentially bloat the roster with even more bad weapons since Valve can't balance for shit. And even then, that depends on who's idea of a re-balance is.
They could have gotten in Nolan North to do Engineer and Soldier, he voiced them in Expiration Date
"Stop enjoying that summer weather"
_..Enjoying?_ I live in the middle of a desert, summer is HELL.
the maps are pretty great honestly, was a pain to figure out the seal map but OMG THE SEALS ARE ADORABLE, I NEED A PLUSHY OF ONE
Do hope they release a follow up update for the saxton hale fixes, maaybe even reintegrate arena back into casual? seems anything is possible, do wish they atleast included a new weapon, like an all class melee symbolizing the fact we got a new TF2 update after... oh god 6 years?!
either way maps are cool, no idea for the cosmetics, and saxton hale is borked ofc but cool, def hoping to check it out after it gets a fix
Finally, an update sized update
Hopefully we do get a 'Fall Fixes' but sadly all we can do is wait
Glad to see Cashworks and Sulfur getting in.
Cashworks had been standing around compleated for about 14 and a half years.
While Sulfur is gona give Steel a run for its money with confusing players, with its koth/ad hybreed setup.
The community fixes are getting shipped, they’re just delayed. Just saying!
New hats, maps, fixes and a new game mode? Man, that's quite a heavy update
They should've gotten the OG VA for hale to do the "SAXTON HAAAAAAAALE!" when doing the charged punch
Crows need HUGS
Adding a voiceline for the heavy saying "Im low on ammo" is all i ever wanted, thats my heavy update right there
also they did say that they are gonna analize some of the community fixes and add them in the game
so i expected to see that soon
Elaborate?
Oi valve, we have like, a lot of community weapons on the workshop. So… like if you ever feeling adding *those* to the game, just say the word
And then spend 5 years balancing them to the point they just give up and just nerf them until they are joke weapons OR they just leave them on a completely broken state and just never touch them again.
that voice impression guy was spot on wtf. His spy was off and his sniper was a little bit off too but besides that, it sounds freakin perfect
1:44 for this you need to remember that the higher ups at valve don’t see much in TF2,
And this update shot it to top 10 best sellers on steam, this was 100% a dip into the water for whats to come considering they put it on steam news and also considering the top 10 thing
Honestly the impressionist of the 9 classes were really good
By the way when versus Saxton Hale game-mode is back online again you probably could do with some bugbuster videos on him yeah well there's probably not many that is currently visible or available but you can try and see if you can find bugs with him or ones that people have encountered just wondering
I'm honestly just excited that cosmetic "sets" are back, like the new 1910's gangster scout, sherlock holmes pyro, blast suit sniper etc.
For the voice lines, I feel like they may have had trouble getting the original actors back, scouts voice actor hasn't been heard from in a few years
Honestly just feels like, and starting to feel like this for a while now;
Valve: "Heres the update! Look at all these maps! And even added in that Saxton Hale thing you guys love!"
Community: "Aw man, look how many players we got now!"
Everyone else: "Did ya fix anything?"
Valve: " . . . bye!"
Everyone & Community: "k..."
Just heard of the update from your video, and the new voice lines are really noticeable to me and hopefully if hey get enough backlash they will hire the original voice actors and redo them.
Hey Squimjim! It was awesome to bump into you on Rotunda! I've been a fan for a while now and I just wanted to say gg on that game. Can't wait to see the next video on the Summer Update! 6:46
i think that the community fixes will come in second part with fixed vhs
Ok for one guy it’s the voice lines are not bad, but it feels like the Chinese knockoff of tf2
He needs a "meet the saxton hale" video
Gonna mention this now, but they fixed the MvM upgrade station bug that was being abused by bots, and which prevented you from using the upgrade station at all
The weirdest part of the voice impressions is how active the TF2 actors have been. Maybe besides Nathan and obviously Rick all the other actors could've done their parts and they have even jokingly asked for work.
if all of these impressions are made by one guy then that's seriously impressive.
the fact that 1 guy was able to do pretty decent impressions of 9 different characters is pretty cool, even if not preferred
apparently the community fixes have been held back because obviously they were made for what is now an older version so they're having to take the time to do regression testing.
when the vsh maps are back, that’ll probably be the best time for some community fixes to be slipped in. So if we don’t get any then, then we probably won’t get any at all
This "update" disappointed me to no end
They add new taunts and hats every few weeks, the map fixes are really minimal and fit into "didn’t know there was a problem until we acknowledged that there was a problem"
And overall, it disappointed me greatly.
I obviously can’t blame them for not getting Rick May, but they could’ve contacted the voice actors.
I will say, the impersonation guy did pretty good, especially on the scout
Imma also pretend they are gonna get the official voice actors while the VSH maps are temporarily disabled.
lackcluster update with no comunity fixes.
The engineer and Demoman lines are pretty good honestly.
The seal animation is so good and so cute i love that seal
This update really gets me seal of approval!
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
the community fixes are likely coming in a few days along with patches for the *new* stuff. that's a common tactic in game design which valve does regularly
Valve is gonna come out any second now and tell us we've been Ker-prank'd and reveal the huge tf2 project they've been working on. Any second now
holy shit actually all voicelines are pretty good, with the scout being the only sore thumb
I genuinely cannot think of a single reason why they wouldn't go to the actual voice actors for this. They have demonstrated time and time again that they love playing these characters. I'm very angry at Valve for this. The only voice actor I could see them reasonably changing is soldiers.
Of course they would have to change soldier
@@solomonpro414 theoretically they could also just not give him new lines if they wanted to avoid ever recasting characters
The fact that they didn’t redub Sniper’s VSH lines when John Patrick Lowrie is currently at Valve voice acting for something is a very confusing choice.
Im just glad there is something new
The voice lines are great, better than what most can do.
Remember Valve is a billionaire company.
@@thecuchikiller Remember, Valve don't care about us.
@@RIP2UALL Stop buying crates then.
@@thecuchikiller No, I like the hats.
One guy voicing all 9 characters, that must've been hell for him, that's for sure but I praise his effort.
This may be too optimistic but I am hoping the community fixes will be its own update midway through the summer update because of how many were suggested in the workshop.
Venice is my favorite map. It feels that it has enough flank space to fit entire 2fort map. I have done disgusting, unspeakable things on Venice as ninjaneer.
