    I've survived this year's Burning Man, and for whoever reading this I would like to share my thoughts:
    1. Under direct sunlight, shiftpod gets hot, and a lot! The thing that cools your shiftpod the most is shade. Don't rely on your camp providing you with one (as I did). You may be on the fringe of your camp's shade structure and it will suck. Bring your own aluminet. Also, I did not try the pool noodle setup shown in the video, so maybe it will be enough, but I won't risk it next year, and will do both.
    2. The evaporative cooler was super effective. However, It leaks, as the water condensates on the cooler's grid, so make sure it's in a small container. We used a plastic box's lid for it.
    3. The soda can ventilation setup was alright, but it's definitely not enough to cool the shiftpod. I did not test whether shade + evaporative cooler would be enough, but I'm not sure whether the ventilation setup is as important as the evaporative cooler. Especially considering that 2 soda can fans consume 26-28 Watts, while 1 cooler (1 was enough for us) consumes only 8-10.
    4. All ventilation setup (2 soda fans on max, 1 cooler) + 4 plugged-in devices (2 phones, 2 power banks) consumes around 70 watts. We had a 110W solar panel, so we were good.
    5. I don't know how, but I'll look into a device to dry the shiftpod from the inside for the next year. When it was raining for >1 day, it sucked a lot, because despite our best efforts, everything inside the tent was damp. On the other hand, my tent did not leak at all, as my fellow campers' tents, most of whom had to use cups or other objects to drain water from their tents.
    6. I don't think people show it often on their videos, but shitpod comes with a metalic "central pole" - it helps to stabilize the tent in high wind conditions, and to prevent the ceiling collapsing in snowy conditions, or when your camp's shade structure does not drain water, so it sags on the top of your shiftpod:)

      In the more recent years tho, I suggest a bigger solar panel connected to a small battery bank 50-100watts can easily fully charge one daily out there. Don't forget USB extension cables!

      Thank for the love! 🙏🙏🙏 I'm glad this helped to get the ideas rolling. Magnets is definitely a good idea! If ur in the area they're having the annual warehouse sale this weekend. instagram.com/p/CM0BJ_KBjg4/
      I don't get paid by them or anything. I just wanted to help and share how i did it without a gas genny. I was lucky enough to score a used sp2 from a friend and decided to figure out how to maximize this thing on the playa. Always fun improving what I can every year I bring it out. 😊

      @@stationjeckmode9107 I found the video in regards to the eye bolts rubbing against the shiftpod itself interesting. And the fix to avoid issues while it’s folded in its bag. Since that rain flap does create pressure up there - was thinking of inflating some beach balls and wedging them up there and secure them with magnets 🧲. Anywho - thanks 🙏🏽 for the 411. Thank you so much for the videos - they've been so helpful! Wondering if your two small Fancii fans (in the air conditioning holes) needed to have filters on them or if they brought in dust etc. Thanks again!

    • @stationjeckmode9107
      @stationjeckmode9107  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a good idea to filter out all the openings to lessen the dust, but the dust is still unavoidable. By the end of the burn, I had layers of dust caked at the bottom of the buckets, but I still had cool air inside.
      Keeping the shiftpod minimally dusty is pretty easy if u filter the windows and keep the doors zipped.
      If u do make swamp coolers, all windows and doors should stay closed except for a hand-sized amount of the door unzipped. When running the coolers, the shiftpod will expand like a balloon and you'll feel air pushing out of the unzipped hole. This part is key so the air continues to pass through the shiftpod, keeping everything cool inside. This took me a few years to understand because the guy who showed me this on playa just told me to "google it" 😔 I ended up remaking my set up with bigger shade over the shiftpod and increased the evap fan's cfm rating. I've been meaning to release a new video on last year's, but stay tuned. 👍👍👍

    What are the pros and cons of the shift pod vs diy hexayurt? I heard a hexayurt can keep you very cool

    • @stationjeckmode9107
      @stationjeckmode9107  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Shiftpod is convenient since it's a pop-up and doesn't take as much cargo space as a hexayurt.
      If a hexayurt is done right, its actually alot more comfortable to sleep in through the day. I've been in hexayurts that stay cool throughout the day under the sun with no cooling needed. The only issue with hexayurts is the set up on the playa and the cargo space it needed to be brought onto the playa.
      I've been using the shiftpod for the past couple years and I like it fine. I thought it was fun figuring out ways it keep it cool inside. Just know that a reinforced tent is still a tent. A hexayurt has at least 1" of sunblocking insulation, depending how you build it.

    • @iamandreavodickova

    • @stationjeckmode9107
      @stationjeckmode9107  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Didn't have issues with the 100w panel and battery brick we used to power everything. Also didn't need to run a fan at night since the temp drop was significant. It's more of a "staying warm" situation after midnight.
