I have the model 650 purchased in 1977 in Munich. Right now i have DSOTM spinning on a Kenwood model KD 750 turntable thru the 650, both of which I purchased at the same time. Also purchased Sansui speakers, nothing legendary, but they are still jamming away at 250 watts per channel. All of them celebrated 46 years of service this year (2023) and show no signs of slowing down.
I just bought a restored Kenwood KA 3500 with a matching tuner. I bought it because I thought it was very appealing to look at. I matched it with my Kenwood KD 550 turntable. This with a pair of Advent speakers. It has since given me hours of pleasure listening to music!
I have one of these and the matching tuner, both purchased about 15 years ago from the original owner. It's used every day and has never let me down, fantastic piece of equipment.
You're a lucky individual to have one...I really enjoyed the model 600; In fact, wish I still had it. Unfortunately, it had to move along to make room to experience more great pieces!
I have a Trio KA-9300 which I believe is the Japanese market Model 600. The Model 600 looks more beautiful but the 9300 is still rather pretty. The 9300 has toroidal power transformers. I have just taken into be refurbished. I've had it for years and when it was working it was a beautiful sounding amp. I'm looking forward to getting it back in a few weeks or so.
I've never tried a hi-fi tuning fuse. Lots of debating on them...I guess it's really one of those things you have to experience for yourself. What type of unit(s) have you used them on?
@@1JGP1 OMG it’s like a vail is lifted! I have a pair Focal Solo 6 (s) which I upgraded to synergistic orange a couple of years ago. The sound quality is amazing! Plan to upgrade the Cambridge Azur 851 N (but the dam fuse is buried in the chassis…. not like the Kenwood! By the way I lusted after that model but just didn’t have the bucks back then. Otherwise I’d still have it today! Thx for the video!
What a great channel! You make an excellent job describing this wonderful amp. I've got a Yamaha CR-820 and a Pioneer Sx-770, both fantastic amps (had them both recapped too). I hope you are doing well and keep up the good work!

I have one of these on the say. It's in excellent shape but some of the switches are noisy, especially the attenuation switch. Any advice on cleaning them? Regular Deoxit?
Yes, DeOxit is great stuff, so to are the products from MG Chemicals. I think if you are going through the trouble of a clean it's also worth to further treat with DeOxit Gold protectant.
I can agree that the Supreme is superb! Certainly, an ALL-TIME great! I've never owned a big Sony V-FET amplifier yet...That will have to be added to the bucket list! Thanks for the comments.
That's a great question, a difficult one to answer as these are probably two of the best vintage integrated amplifiers, I've had the pleasure to own. Highlights of the Kenwood was "effortless drive" - & the fact that it just sounded great with whatever, whenever (lol). The Luxman was more of a "treat", kind of-like taking out a special car on the weekend. Certainly it sounds "sweeter" and "warmer" thanks to the Class-A circuit. If I was to generalize, the Luxman is "better sounding", but you are limited by the modest 50 watt output; Whereas, the Kenwood offers spectacular sound at about x3 the output. If I could, the 600 would be my daily driver (as it's more reliable too) & the Luxman would be for those special listening sessions with those few special speakers (full range, horn loaded). I believe much of the end-fit will too probably reside in the type of speakers you have & your listening style.

I look more for quality that the high watts, I do not need more then a 50 watts on my Tannoy, but I realy look for Audiophile type of an amp.

A high class Maranz transistor amplifier, lastly for three years two monoblocks from Hype NC 400 which were also praised as high end but something was always missing especially with the Hypex class D amplifiers. Now, by chance, I have been able to buy the Kenwood model 650, which has been restored and the sound is indescribable - I only use the amplifier side. I use the TEAC UD 701n as my preamplifier. The Kenwood is by far the best amplifier I've ever had in terms of sound quality and I won't be giving it away. If you can get one, whether 600 or 650 they are both the same then take the chance. Once you have this, you don't need to look any further.
Different. Naim is British, the house sound is said to be "musical" - lol,...not sure that helps much. I guess, like many manufacturers, their newer stuff is probably somewhat smoother across all frequencies. This probably means it's fairly neutral, and you're going to get out what you put in. The Supreme is from a different era...Kenwood's that bore the supreme name were a bit more "high-end" sounding than what people were used to hearing. Expect a balance between that ballsy sound of most vintage gear with an overall elevated presentation of sound. Meaning, lower distortion, better grip, and more transparency than the normal 70's fare. again, depends on what you like.
Hi Dan, sorry I missed your message. Not sure if you sold it yet; however, if you brought it to a local technician you probably looking at over $300 to get it back into operational condition. Around here, the model 500 will still sell between $800 and $1,200; that is, if it's in good physical condition and working well. I'd either keep it for yourself, or consider getting it repaired before you sell it.

I have a Trio KA-9300 which I believe is the Japanese market Model 600. The Model 600 looks more beautiful but the 9300 is still rather pretty. The 9300 has toroidal power transformers. Supreme were the best amps of all time, with v-fets, and they still are

I really think they're probably likely quite similar. From what I understand there was a different style transformer, but otherwise one in the same.

how much do you think a model 500 is worth. mine has blown. needs fixing and recap.been offered 150 to 200 canadian.
