Came here because I saw 2022 "The Offer" TV show about the back story of the people involved in the making of Godfather. In the show, Marlon said Sinatra hated that Marlon sang his song in Guys and Dolls and hated book the Godfather. So Marlon told Coppolo, Mario Puzo and others that he is going to do the Godfather not for the money, but to piss off Sinatra and all of them started laughing. This was early on in Episode 4. Love that scene so much that I rewatch the group of them laughing about getting back at Sinatra.
I LOVED this when I saw the Offer! 😂 also Alex from Grey’s Anatomy was AMAZING as Marlon Brando 😱 LOVED him! 😍 I had a crush on him in Grey’s and IRONICALLY he said ppl called him a young Marlon in the past! 😳
my dads gf put this movie on for me as a liittttle kid and i didn’t get it at all but i loved it, marlon brando/sky masterson was probably my first non-cartoon crush
Frank Sinatra made fun of his singing, Marlon made fun of Frank's acting and both had a bit of a fued. Marlon ended that fued by going out with Marilyn Monroe.
Brando’s singing is actually all of the best takes of every line pieced together because he had a very hard time singing. I think his subdued voice actually works for pretty well although Sinatra disagreed.
It's mostly just that poor Frank's pride was wounded by feeling like he didn't have the market cornered for one project in his career; a star who was less of a vain prima donna could have brought himself to work well with Brando and give him his due for stretching his abilities and doing fine. Plus, Brando was certainly easier on the eyes than Sinatra.
Just saw it tonight. Absolutely amazing! Really enjoyed it and their engagement with people in the audience 😂. I was waiting for this song and A much better fantastic performance of it, totally blew me away!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
That song was meant for Marlon! And yes, he wasn’t a singer, but by golly, he knew what to do with a song! Love this movie! He was incredible in it! Watch Marlon as Mark Antony in the film “Julius Caesar”! Yes, he was even right by golly for Shakespeare! He is one of the greatest, yet not acknowledged, yes again I’ll say it, one of the greatest of all male actors! Not many actors could go from actor, to “pop” singer, to Shakespeare!
This movie is a master class in acting from Marlon. He is cooly addicted to adrenaline, confident, honest with himself, quietly amused with Sarah and compassionate with Adelaide. What a ride!

I think the main thing is that Frank Sinatra is standing right behind him and not in the lead role. I didn't watch the movie but I feel like you know, since it's a musical... kind of a waste.
@@muffinland8660 ok ok but you gotta admit it's kind of dumb when you think about it that they hired a a hugely famous singer for a secondary role when he is who he is as opposed to someone who never sang anything before in a movie or anywhere else and he's just kneeling there behind him... feels like a waste to me.
@@muffinland8660 Nope. Never seen it. That was the second thing I typed in my first reply. I only know one thing about this movie-and nothing about the plot-which is that Marlon Brando is playing the main character, and in a musical the main character is usually the person who gets to do the most singing. And they happened to also hire one of the most famous musical performers in the US at the time for the same movie, but not as the lead role in a musical. Just seems kind of like a waste to me.
The man was a legend in his own time as far as acting and he even dances pretty well but he definitely wasn't s singer. Thank God he did this camp and didn't try to be serious in the scene...he would have fallen flat on his face...in time with the music, of course... but still pretty gruesome. He knew his limitations, though. I think this was the only time he ever tried to sing in a movie.
Marlon Brando set precedents for what we think constitutes good acting. Think about that- when we think about what makes a man seem real, or honest, or earnest- we think of him. Whether that's a good thing or not, or if its even a thing he set out to accomplish, this man cast such a large shadow that men today are still trying to emulate it.

As someone who knows theater/music pretty well, the criticisms of his vocal performance are perplexing to me. Sure, his voice isn't dripping with pure resonance and power(look up Anthony Warlow performing this piece. Seriously a once in a century voice), but that wasn't the norm in film adaptations. It still isn't, because it just doesn't translate as well with a camera in your face. There's very little tension in his voice, and he doesn't have any noticeable pitch issues. Not too many people can say that.
Wow, one of the greatest musical films of all times, I've watched it hundreds of times and never get sick of watching it. Yes, Brando wasn't the greatest singer but we're talking about reality going back to the 1950s when things were real then and films were done in one take not done hundreds of times over until they were perfect. It's the "ordinary-ness" of it all that makes it more endearing.
But it seems his singing WAS spliced together line by line after many many takes of each ... so his "ordinary" must have been pretty woeful by comparison
@@lilymarinovic1644 We only learned about splicing because Brando himself said so. But you never heard of the splicing done on Rex Harrison's "singing" in My Fair Lady or Christopher Plummer's "Eidelweiss" in The Sound of Music because no one told us about them. Actually, Brando could sing much better in "ordinary" than Harrison or Plummer would.
So, Sky Masterson bet about 20 people $1000 against their soul. Cash. $1 now is almost the equivalent of $10 then (rounding up), which means he was carrying around $200,000, and he mentioned that people have seen him roll for twice as much. So not only does he casually carry the equivalent of hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, he has at least once bet 400,000 on something. DUDE.

Back in the day (maybe still, I don't live there anymore) David Douglas High School in Portland OR had a pretty serious theater set-up. When I was ten, my older brother was a cop in a production of Guys and Dolls. I've seen a fair number of school productions in my life, even been in a few, but that was something special. I've seen pro productions that weren't as polished. Not even my brother could bring it down. I've loved the play for more than 25 years since.

"I found just the place, meet me in geneva and wear a hazmat suit...."
I spend like 2 weeks looking for the movie, and it was worth it
Came here because I saw 2022 "The Offer" TV show about the back story of the people involved in the making of Godfather.
Amazing Marlon Brando!😍
He was pretty good. If someone doesn't like it, he could give them a offer that they can't refuse.
😅
I wish Sky give ME an Offer I CAN’T refuse 😏😂😏😂 for REAL tho Sarah was SOO lucky! 😫
my dads gf put this movie on for me as a liittttle kid and i didn’t get it at all but i loved it, marlon brando/sky masterson was probably my first non-cartoon crush
Frank Sinatra made fun of his singing, Marlon made fun of Frank's acting and both had a bit of a fued.
Marlon ended that fued by going out with Marilyn Monroe.
seems like sinatra had fueds with lots of people.i mean he made fun of sammy davis jr. for having only one eye. and he made fun of marlons singing
@@johnjackson7045 damn Sinatra has good music but he seems like a total dick
Who makes fun of one eye and THE Marlon Brando??
No, going out with Marilyn Monroe wouldn't hurt Sinatra. If was Brando's going out with Ava Gardner that did him in.
One of the all-time great concepts and lyrics.
His singing stinks ! 😎
Anyone who lives in London and is reading this in 2023 - go and see Guys and Dolls at the Bridge Theatre. Its freaking awesome.
Just saw it tonight. Absolutely amazing! Really enjoyed it and their engagement with people in the audience 😂. I was waiting for this song and A much better fantastic performance of it, totally blew me away!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Sinatra has the Voice, Brando has the Face !
Wow 😮 this looks so good. Love this 🎶❤
Disney’s The Godfather (1955)

Sky and Sarah the ULTIMATE musical pairing of opposites attract! 😳 I remember when I saw the Guys and Dolls movie in High School and I like fell in LOVE with Brando 😍 I was like he izzz soo GORGEOUS 🥵
I don't know why anyone has a problem with his singing voice. It's not even passable, it's great. He really does make you believe that his entire heart's on the line.
I think the main thing is that Frank Sinatra is standing right behind him and not in the lead role. I didn't watch the movie but I feel like you know, since it's a musical... kind of a waste.
@@cthulhuslawyer4604 Frank Sinatra sings in this movie, just not in this scene.
@@cthulhuslawyer4604 "Secondary role?" The movie's literally about both of them. Have you ever even seen Guys and Dolls?
@@muffinland8660 Nope. Never seen it. That was the second thing I typed in my first reply. I only know one thing about this movie-and nothing about the plot-which is that Marlon Brando is playing the main character, and in a musical the main character is usually the person who gets to do the most singing. And they happened to also hire one of the most famous musical performers in the US at the time for the same movie, but not as the lead role in a musical.
Just seems kind of like a waste to me.
Beautiful song and wonderful movie
Not a Brando fan. But he had panache and style and more damn talent than anyone else.
...lol
🤔
You're god damned right
Tim Randall not frank
The man was a legend in his own time as far as acting and he even dances pretty well but he definitely wasn't s singer. Thank God he did this camp and didn't try to be serious in the scene...he would have fallen flat on his face...in time with the music, of course... but still pretty gruesome. He knew his limitations, though. I think this was the only time he ever tried to sing in a movie.
I admire his acting and I have to say that is singing was great
His singing reminds me of Billy Crystal for some reason
you're not alone
Hahaha nailed it
I thought of the exact same thing and then scrolled down to see this comment! He sounds exactly like Billy Crystal
Avishka Mario Senewiratne that’s a mmmmmmmarvelous observation
Lol after reading this comment I will never hear Marlon Brando's singing voice the same again haha
THE OFFER BROUGHT ME HERE 📽🎬🎞🎥
I love how they put a spotlight on Marlin right before he starts singing.
The spotlight was God
@@bb22602 YEP! 😂😱😏 he was like Sky knock 'em dead! lol
I love this movie
Marlon Brando set precedents for what we think constitutes good acting. Think about that- when we think about what makes a man seem real, or honest, or earnest- we think of him. Whether that's a good thing or not, or if its even a thing he set out to accomplish, this man cast such a large shadow that men today are still trying to emulate it.
My cousin lived in my house for a while 20 years ago and for a week he had to practice this song for the school play and .... 20 years later I still remember it! lol

Marlon Brando is fantastic 👏 👌 🙌 😍 in this performance 🎭 👏 wow 😳 👏 its more realistic and genuine for the story for this great song 🎵 to be performed this way ... simply a great 👍 👌 👏 🙌 performance by Brando
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face.....
Say what you will about the singing - I don't really dislike it, though I wouldn't buy an album of it - but you can't argue with the presentation.
Great acting & singing Marlon!!! You really seem the part. Hope you find all that you are aiming for.
@@marietta1335 hardly a high bar to set, particularly for Harrison, who barely even made a pretence of singing.
DUDE.
Amazing!
Sky Masterson was a crossroads demon and you can't tell me otherwise.
@@misterblueskyyy I'm in love with the Sky Masterson, Disneyfied version. So there!
That's why they call him Sky! 😄
Long time ago I was the stage manager for a production of guys and dolls. I actually ended dating the actor what who was playing Benny. This show still brings me warmth and nostalgia thinking about those days.

@@dejanmrsic7460 yes him and Burt Reynolds.
He sings as well as he needs to for this role
Back in the day (maybe still, I don't live there anymore) David Douglas High School in Portland OR had a pretty serious theater set-up. When I was ten, my older brother was a cop in a production of Guys and Dolls. I've seen a fair number of school productions in my life, even been in a few, but that was something special. I've seen pro productions that weren't as polished. Not even my brother could bring it down. I've loved the play for more than 25 years since.
I like both but for some reason I like marlon better
Same.
