Oh my god, youtube will become immesurably valuable for stuff like this. A window ten years into the past with info on old tech. Love it.
I am watching this video 10 years to the day and considering purchasing a pristine RX100 for approx. 130USD. I like old gear that works and this little camera does.
So did you get it?
I have owned several Compact cameras over the years.
of which I must then say, that in 2012, the compact cameras began to reach such a good level of quality that even if you buy one that are a couple of year old( or in this case 9 year), you still get a very good quality camera.
such as Rx 100.
I still shoot my best shots on my Fuji x100

Wish people would stop rattling on about his bloody accent, Kai was born in the UK (Norwich, Norfolk to be precise) to HK parents, not exactly rocket science is it but then it does explain the level of intelligence of some TH-camrs out there.

I am still using it in 2021 I am 26 years old now,my grandpa bought me this in 2015 I kept this camera as a souvenir and as a treasure,my grabdpa is no more with me,but his camera is.

I’m still using it 10 yrs later… great camera ( at this time of writing, Sony rx100 vii been out for a year or so)
Sounds like he really wanted to not like this camera, but the shot comparisons on the Rx100 won almost every time!
SONY DSC-RX100 is, but it is very good camera.

Haven't you had any issue with image authorization or do you give these photographed people an authorization?
In most places it's generally OK if they're in a public place, though it is considered polite to ask. It depends where you are really. Hong Kong is very much a photo friendly place as are many big tourist locations.
Whilst in a public place, you can photograph anyone or anything, without their permission. Though, if they ask to not be photographed, you must respect them, and not include them in the photographs. That's how it works in Finland atleast. I suppose it wouldn't be much different in other countries.

Thank you for the review! I was one of the guilty persons who asked for this review. Camera seems to have nice quality, but yeah, for that price it is still hard to decide whether it is worth it or not.
I'd like to see a shoot-out between the Sony RX100, Olympus XZ-2, Canon S110, and Pentax MX-1. "Enthusiast Compact Shootout."
add the Fuji X-20 and canon G1X to that and i'll watch :p

wow, watched the video and still don't know if you would recommend this or not. what the hell were you saying for over 10 minutes, I fell asleep. is it a good camera for someone that just wants a point and shoot that takes great quality easy pics?

I was looking to downsize my DSLR kit which had become a travel burden and cumbersome to shoot on the streets. I wanted a large 1 inch chip that would fit in my pocket with decent glass lenses. The RX100 Mark2 answered this need.I must say the whole world of camera manufacturers need to learn more lessons about user interface from smartphone technologies. The directness and speed of shooting and uploading images to the cloud or other devices is still terribly lacking with these cameras and all DSLR for that matter as well. But its getting better so lets celebrate and then continue to innovate.

***** he probably mean that is a bit disorientating see a HK guy in HK (not in UK) speak with a strong english accent. Would have the same disorientation seen a black man speaking with American accent but "in Africa".
When I see his videos the first time I though the same but than I imagine he spent a lot of time in UK and now he's back at home.

I've had the camera a week, it needs a viewfinder more than a tilt screen...
I'm trying to rig an eyepiece. it's hard to see this in very bright settings. Granted, i got it for it's low light capabilities. Aside from some quirks, this has been a joy to play with. My needs are specific, and fitting it in my pocket was a major reason to get this. I get the bokeh shots without trying. i never know how good this thing can be. it just pulls out some beautiful shots.
As always a great review, good job Kai. My only issue is that, this camera should have a tilt screen with touch focus and shutter. I have been in the market for just such a compact, and I was hoping that this was it. At twenty megapixel and a zeiss lens, wow. I can only guess that in one or two years Sony will regurgitate this same camera with tilt screen and touch focus with touch capture, or one or the other. thank you Digital Rev.

B&H had this basic camera back for sale in Fall 2020. I was surprised. I bought one. Still learning it. It might be a good B video camera...

I like DigitalRev TV reviews because they are fun. I agree, content-wise they could be better but it's more fun than the boring "Hi, I'm Jake from Statefarm and this is a review of the..." type videos. It's unique to them!
Please do a complete hands-on review of the S100 also exposing its short comings such as the lens error and AF issues.
Thank you for your review, size matters. I was looking for a compact camera that could take DSLR quality or near quality photos without all the weight. For me it sounds like the Sony is a good choice. I would have liked to see some video and flash information-pictures.

Very interested in this. Got a Canon S90 at moment (which I love), but the Sony looks like a good idea with the larger sensor.
If i wanted a compact camera i could carry with me anywhere, i would definently get a mirrorless SLR, better than compact, almost as good as DSLR, and they look incredibly sexy!

Can the sony rx100 mk1 stream via hdmi out on external screen while recording or only in playback view?
Has the Sony RX100 for about seven days. I'm glad that I returned it and purchased another DSLR body a Canon 5D Mark III.

i decided to get this one too... i had a Nikon cam but so shaky and slow to make multiple shots... nothing can beat its carl zeiss lens.... cant wait to buy..
RX100 has been very impressive. Amazing quality. My other cameras include 5D mk2 and fuji x100
Watching Kai is so much fun whether or not I'm interested in the camera he's reviewing. He's so keeeeewt! But I am going to buy that camera.
You turned all serious after last video's comment:) ok this was a lot more technical. But I love the models and all that geeky stuff. Don't just give it away cos people want more informative series. You are doing a great job, so stick to your own style!

Will this camera, with a low-cost manual flashgun work?(I use one with my dsrl ). for travel option. there are price discounts in my near shop for this old model. so thinking...
I bought this camera I'm very surprised it is fantastic the special processing that's only Sony uses is the real trick it takes a good picture and makes it fantastic I have a Canon 7d in this little camera beat it when it comes to low light photography because of its multistep processing I really just love it
