What an awesome looking tent. I have been contemplating buying the 6Moon Skyscape Trekker until I saw this sweetheart. At over double the price it’s a tough pill to swallow. But I love my ArcBlast 55 pack by Zpacks and know that their tents would be made with the same craftsmanship. Thanks for the review.
Looks like a nice hybrid between the hexamid and altaplex. Like the height ... easier to sit up and the added vertical angle im guesiing would make for more room on the ends so that quilt would be less likely to touch.... I use the good ole cheapo costco Cascadia poles for the Altaplex. I've pushed lengthened beyond their suggested limits... had no problem with it hiking 1/2 of the PCT. (I did bring two reusable 8" zip ties to lash together w/my other pole collapsed to add more than adequate strength but didnt need or use it.
Nice! I should be getting mine any day now and can’t wait to get it out on the trail! It looks like I went with the same color as you did so it is great to see it in a video aside from the pics on Zpacks website. Loved the Hexamid, but was hoping for a similar setup with a sewn in bathtub floor so I’m happy this tent was released. The added headroom and entry clearance will be a plus. Look forward to seeing how the tents hold up. Enjoy!
Yeah man I was feeling kinda cramped in the hexamid, so the extra space was a pleasant change. The white is sweet! My tarp on the PCT was white and I really enjoyed it, so I figured I’d go for it again. It’s a shame the brown/orange are the thicker stuff. I’m not big on the blue, and kinda tired of the olive, so white seemed like the choice.
It needs a 15d silnylon floor. It would pack down small and only add maybe an oz to the weight. What size tarp do you use? Was thinking about getting a 7x9 by etowa because they put tie outs along the ridge and panels. I like the idea of pitching a 360 shelter when the weather gets gnarly. But not sure if a 7x9 is big enough.
Yeah similar to the new Xmid tent, it would be the better option. I used an Etowah 7x9 DCF tarp for the PCT and most of my hiking since, about to replace it with a z-packs 7x9. My Etowah is gettin old, the zpacks has linelocs and I figured if I need to add anything, I can do it myself. Thinking of giving away my old tarp plus some tape to patch pin holes on Patreon or something. It’s a great tarp!
@@MeowHikes Good stuff Meow. The only reason I like silnylon floors on shelters is that it gives me more of reason to do what I want anyways, which is to carry some polycryo to throw down to cowboys camp on and to protect that nylon floor. I actually quite like 1oz DCF floors. It's nice piece of mind that 15d silnylon floors don't give you. But I am ok with a 15d sil floor if I have that polycro reinforcement.
I prefer DCF floor. I live in a very humid region, and I almost always store the tent early in the morning wet with condensation. It is much easier to dry a DCF floor at the end of the day than a nylon with absorbed water. Some people suggest a double wall tent for these conditions. But my duplex has been fine for that, mainly because the floor doesn't absorb water.
Do feel there is enough space at the foot and head end for a 4 inch pad and 0 degree quilt with 4 inches of loft without the quilt touching the wall at the foot end. Im 5ft10. Its hard to tell.
Looks like a great tent and as you said, Zpacks finally stopped dicking around and just did it. I will try my luck with a Hexamid solo tent (mesh but no bathtub floor) in combination with a MLD superlight bivy as my floor and quilt temperature booster. I have a DCF rain skirt to put my gear on and hope this combo will serve me well on the PCT. I plan to cowboy camp mostly so the bivy is nice for that and should be a pretty versatile combo. Thanks for the video!
Dammit. I have the old Hexamid but even at 5'6" the entry is super low. I bought the Duplex last summer for my A.T. Thru this year...and love it...but now I want this.
Looks great. Personally now at 70 years old I'm looking to lighten up from my trusty Big Agnes Copper Spur. Anyone know if condensation is a big issue? Thanks for the review
Can be. But reasonable campsite selection can ameliorate most of that. Camp right next to an alpine lake on a night with high dewpoint not recommended. :-)
I've been rocking the Six moons Dechutes-plus for 2021.(love love that thing!/16 oz) It also has no bathtub..and I've been zapped awake with water overcoming a corner of my flat tyveks. I just got a Serenity Nettent in the fall, and scored a used ZP Hexamid tarp w doors in Dec for 240$. I ve slept under the zpack in 30 and 20 degree- in back-yard-testin' mode, and Im looking forward to some weekend-trail overnighters. I'm just over 6'- and yes, finding the 'sweet spot' in a UL shelter is a process.
I just measured my Fizan aluminum poles and at max length they are exactly 52 inches! Stoked to invest in this tent, hopefully soon. Thanks for the video!
The Lunar Solo is a great tent! One of my top recs especially after they switched to Silpoly. Would probably be a better option for bike packing over this tent as it definitely packs smaller
