That is insanely light! I like it! I have the Altaplex. The design is great and looks like it has a very nice footprint. I believe you need the one guy out on the back on the bottom for the main pitch. It counter balances the main guy out in the front. You have some of the same cons as I do for this design. It’s a great tent and the negatives aren’t show stoppers. Great video Dave!

Thanks Dan! Yes you do need the back wall staked out. I think if you configure some sticks and the lines just right you don't need to have additional stakes for the back wall but a minimum of 8 is prob warranted for all guy lines. I'm excited for the weight savings but have gotten used to the 2 pole design so hopefully it won't feel too claustrophobic 🤞

It is the tent I have been using for a year. I love it. Greatest tent I have ever owned. Love it. Great video Dave! ✌️

Awesome Crow thanks! High praise coming from ya! Ik you also like your duplex so I wasn't sure if the 1p was enough space for ya.

Great work Dave! You know one thing I love is the adjustable tub. I sold my lunar solo and really have been eyeing this one. The weight savings is killer.

Thanks Taylor! The adjusters I was actually thinking about getting rid of lol. I'll keep them for now to see how well they do. Def a good feature for the crazy weather. Don't tell Huck you sold your Solo! Believe it or not it's only a few ozs lighter than my GG1 but def more of a tank for dicier weather. 👍

Nice! I have a couple of Devins tents too 😂
Nothing that nice though! Looks like a solid tent. My friend has the original one and it lasted her several through hikes. Enjoy!

You do?! 😱 Which ones?! I'm excited about this one! Although I've gotten used to a 2 pole design so hopefully it doesn't feel that claustrophobic 🤞

Nice review, Dave! Welcome to the Plex club!😄
I enjoy owning both the solo for when traveling light and the duplex for when I feel like having a bit more room.

Hahahah thanks Jerry! 🤣 Good to be in the club 😄 Great that you have that option! My GG1 is a little less space than the Duplex but I'll stick with that for now if I want more interior space. The bathtub isn't that big but the dual pole design makes it feel more spacious inside. Plus I've run some cord from pole to pole to either put up damp clothes or stash stuff in the ridgeline organizer 🤙

Just back from a trip in the Sierra. My Plex Solo, once again, served me well. Sell out? Actually, buying a tent made in China is selling out. Zpacks is made in the USA, so paying extra wasn't an issue for me at all. Especially given the quality of their products. I'd rather be sleeping in my Plex Solo in the wilderness overlooking a lake I have all to myself for two or three nights, than in a $700 hotel room (the cost of the tent). I also have had no problems with the quality of my Plex Solo. I was expecting a zipper fail at this point, but so far everything is still working as purchased. I really don't know why people whine about the price of this tent. It really is the best solo tent out there.

The price is decently expensive for most backpackers, especially if they're on a budget. I enjoy the quality of my tent and packs as well. I always recommend trying to snag on a deal if it's lightly used.

All those missing features can't beat the weight savings 😆

Snip off the white tag on the pocket and save 2g!

Lightest tent in the world. No pegs, zippers, net, poles or anchor points. All sold separately but will add weight.
I really don't understand these tents. If you add to this tent or take away things from a semi freestanding tent you end up at the same weight or within grams. Of course you can make a supper light tent if you make it so close to the edge of being useful

    • @DaveOffGrid
      @DaveOffGrid  ปีที่แล้ว

Technically potentially true. But the idea of non-freestanding is you use your trekking poles on trail. If you use trekking poles and carry poles for your tent it's additional unnecessary weight (unless you're in a spot where you can't pitch this style of tent). They will always advertise the lowest weight of just the body of the tent but even with stakes and trekking poles this is still one of the lightest, if not the lightest full shelter on the market.

@@DaveOffGrid yea get the marketing and concept of having a light tent. I guess to each their own but just seems like a dynema 1p or 2p semi freestanding double wall make more sense to me both functionally and weight wise. Thanks for the video though good content.

    • @DaveOffGrid

@@JustinKraft thanks for watching! Of course! All subjective always. Double wall is def going to be better with condensation. The Tarptent Dipole is a great option for a 1p, double wall that still has decent space at a decent price. 👍 Not as light tho.
