    Bought a 2012 Street Triple R as my first bike. After 20,000 miles of riding in the mountains of Western NC and a couple track days, I am still totally in love with the bike. So easy to ride fast- stable and predictable handling combined with a solid planted feel on the road make it just as easy to take a 15 mph hairpin as it is to fly through a 90 mph sweeper. This will always be my favorite street bike.

    Watching this many years later after just purchasing a used one with 5000 miles. Immediately noticed you were around San Marcos. Perfect roads for this.

    You are completely right on review, i am with you. I bought one, R version. Power is everywhere, so linear, no surprises, no peak surprises . Its very nimble, light. Handling is perfect, even in a turn exit twisting the cable. Engine brake and abs are dead spot ones. She eat twists and cornering. I am in love. Thanks for this review.

    •  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carlos Aero Have you adjusted the suspension? It has very stiff front and soft rear as a standard. Sportrider.com has quite good settings for that bike! of course you should set the sag acvording to your own weight...

    • @carlosaero1657
      @carlosaero1657 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I did. I set suspension to sport front and rear and then add one click clockwise to rebound front and rear. I liked it more stiff. its a beast entering and exiting corners, but can be a little harsh in non good streets/roads. Its copying better and I have a very good feedback from the road. I didnt change preload (yet). I will check sportrider. Thank you.

    Attacks corners almost instinctively, easiest bike I've ever riden. By far, the most fun

  • @arch417powersports

    I used to own a Street Triple and the power would never disappoint. It makes power anywhere in the RPM range. I sold it because the wind blast was insane at speeds above 75mph.

    • @TheAK47s
      @TheAK47s  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +archinuk417 This one didnt feel that bad. They might get worse over time on like long journeys though. Or maybe I just got lucky with wind that day

    • @whattheblp6148
      @whattheblp6148 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheAK47s Did a trip that was about 13,000km (about 8000 miles) on one with no added wind protection and I didn't mind it. It is also my first naked bike. At first I noticed it having coming from faired bikes, but got use to it pretty quickly. Simple change was to just use my more aerodynamic helmets on high speed roads. One benefit is that you tend to feel like you are going faster then you actually are (It was weirder having so much open road to look at without the fairings in the way). I didn't even really mind the wind at the bikes absolute top speed. All that said, still love this bike and can't see myself selling it anytime soon. After market exhausts make the sound of these bikes just come alive. Someone else mentioned the SC-Project Conic has a glorious popping and crackling on decal/overrun almost constantly. I look forward to slowing down as much as I do getting on the throttle for the sound alone.

    • @HydeMyJekyll
      @HydeMyJekyll 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +archinuk417 Not sure what you're experiencing at all.... I have the 2012 Street Triple R and the wind is hardly noticeable even at fast highway speeds. Even when taking to the track, 130 mph is no problem at all. The air flow does provide a steady pressure on me, but it's so little that I never notice it. Have spent many days of fast riding of 5 hours or more and have always been comfortable. I've got an Arai Vector 2 helmet, if that makes any difference?

    • @arch417powersports
      @arch417powersports 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      HydeMyJekyll I owned the 09 model. Maybe the 12 is different with air pathways? I had an aftermarket windscreen on it also and didn't help at all. The wind was horrible. I had an older Seven Zero Seven helmet. I'm 5'11 also.

    • @HydeMyJekyll
      @HydeMyJekyll 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, there may be some differences. I don't have any fly screen or wind screen, and I am 6'2" - I love the hell out of my STriple

  • @mindspinn311
    @mindspinn311 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Btw you’re not engaging front ABS unless you absolutely mash on the lever. The rear ABS you can feel in the pedal when you push hard and the rear tire may chirp. I don’t think you’re doing either here.

    Mate I'm thinking of buying a 2013 (January model so before the update?), but not sure if I should spend the extra £500 (about +15% or so) on ABS model, what do you think?
    P.S you're right about the handling...
    I had a 2007 years ago and was forced to sell. Had a few cheaper bikes since and honestly it actually feels like the tyres are flat on anything other than the street!

  • @mindspinn311
    @mindspinn311 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had the 2015 Rx and I honestly wish I had bought the base model in this Cosmic Green. The Daytona tail/seat it came with was uncomfortable for the more upright handle bars and the suspension was very taut. Great for canyons, not great for regular riding.

    great review but i would have to disagree with your opinion on best handling bikes. i've ridden both the gsxs and the fz09. they are not the best handling. the fz09 suspension is way to plush and the gsxs suspension is ok but the throttle is too choppy. there are bounds of other bikes that handle better.

  • @Booki89
    @Booki89 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am thinking of getting either a Street triple or the FZ09, which would you get and why? Lots of people say the handling on the FZ09 sucks and its too soft. Thats my main concern.

  • @fedora83

  • @Bredaxe
    @Bredaxe 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not sure if the 2014 model is the same but I sat on a 2016 and it felt like my rear was way up in the air. I was learned way too far forward for comfort, I might as well had been on a crotch rocket. This model year you're on seems more leveled if that makes sense to say?

  • @andersestes
    @andersestes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    "you do not get too, too much wind of of it though"
    What are you talking about ; its a naked bike. Without fairings or windscreen.
    You get all the wind.
    Wether that bothers you or not, is a different matter.

  • @pg88corfu
    @pg88corfu 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Would you still recommend this beauty for a beginner's bike?
    I mean i need an easy and linear-powerdelivery bike with low weight and reliable motor...
    The 2 cylinder new trend on bikes is good on MPG but the power delivery is BRUTAL just for a short period though ( 2-3 seconds) .. like the SV 650 or the MT-07 let's say... It kinda scared me when i went full throttle... :/
    Take care man ;) CHEERS

    • @ndperson1
      @ndperson1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends how mature you are, but it is literally a supersport engine in a make bike tuned a bit for torque, not sure that I would think of it as a great beginner bike just cuz it can be deceptively fast

    • @pg88corfu
      @pg88corfu 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You couldn't have explained it better!
      So i will stick to the FZ-07 or the SV650 2016!

    • @ndperson1
      @ndperson1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheAK47s I mostly ask cuz I am shorter so like the lower seat height, and I have liked softer suspension than many people, though I usually ride supersports or sports bikes

    • @rgmccann

    the reason you can get on the throttle with triumph is that it has a longer rear swing arm. where as the yamaha has a much shorter swing arm which makes it all to easy to wheelie. the triumph is just a far better bike to ride hard. they are all about the ride.
