AoE2: DE Campaigns | Le Loi | 3. The Battle at Hanoi

In this scenario, the Vietnamese rebellion must retake the important city of Hanoi from the Ming by destroying their Castles in the city. You must first harass the Ming at the edges of the map in the jungle to gain enough support to launch your all-out offensive against the Ming. Just be careful of trebuchets!

The tale of the Hoan Kiem lake is like this: Before the rebellion even began, Le Loi had a friend, a neighbor name Le Than, who was a fisherman. One day he went fishing at the river nearby his home, the first time he set the net, he felt sth heavy, thought he hit the jackpot, he pulled his net, but it was only a long piece of metal; disappointed, he threw it away. But to his surprise, the same thing happened on the 2nd and the 3rd time. Believed it is a strange thing, he brought it back home.
One day, Le Loi visited Le Than's house and saw sth so bright, which turned out to be that piece of metal, he asked Le Than where did he get it, Than said he got it the day before when he was fishing. Le Than gave Le Loi the metal. After cleaning it, Le Loi found 3 words on the metal. On one side it is "Thuận Thiên" (Following Heaven's will) and on the other side is Loi, which is his name. He wondered whether Heaven gave him the destiny to liberate the country from the Ming. He then forged it into a blade, but unfortunately, there was no handle which could fit with the blade.
On another day, after a downpour rain the night before, the people in the village told him that they found sth like a handle for the sword in the jungle. He then prayed:" If heaven has trusted me with this destiny, please let the handle fit the blade". It fitted, and from that day, the Holy Sword was always by his side in numerous battles until the country was liberated and he became the Emperor of the newly found Later Le Dynasty in 1429.
One day, when traveling on the imperial boat on the Tả Vọng Lake, also known as Thuỷ Quân Lake (the Navy's Lake), a turtle appeared and told him: "Your Majesty, please return the sword to the King of the Sea". When he gave the sword, the turtle took it and disappeared. His followers wanted to take it back, but he refused and said:" I had fulfilled the destiny, the sword had to return to where it comes from.". From that day, the Tả Vọng Lake was called as Hoàn Kiếm Lake (Returning the Sword Lake) or Hồ Gươm (Sword Lake), which is now in the center of Hanoi.
The idea of the Turtle Monk in the game is ok. But It would be better if there is a real lake with the turtle inside :)).

Yayyy. This battle never took place cause Ha Noi name didn't exist until 1831. During the Le Loi revolution, Ha Noi is Dong Do, after Le Loi became king, he rename it to it's old name Thang Long. The mission inspired from the battle of Tot Dong-Chuc Dong and it happened after the rebels reach south, which is the next mission
Also, a fun fact: Battle of Chuc Dong-Tot Dong prove that you can be ambushed everywhere in Vietnam, even in the middle of rice paddles.
I used a pincer maneuver here. Kept the vils you get on the east of the river there itself, securing a base there. Adopted western base from the rebels. Destroyed the eastern castle from outside the gates, using trebs. Dropped the castle exactly where you built the archery range to get the gold. Also, used elite canon galleons, to take the Second castle down. (The other one that counts.)
The time for the three-pronged attack (target: Hanoi) was in 1426, after the reaching south period in 1421 - 1425 when the rebel found and secured their solid foothold in the south (central Vietnam). The reaching south period witnessed a huge streak of victories for the rebels since they continuously defeated the Ming in the South which gave them the foothold, allowed them to maintain a long last supply, manpower for the uprising. The battle of the Nghe An and Kha Luu was the major victory of the reaching south period when the rebellion gave the Ming 2 massive defeats at Kha Luu and Bo Ai village, it forced the Ming to leave those cities and returned to the north. After that, the rebels liberated Thanh Hoa, the origin of the rebellion. The whole "Reaching south" was truly a turn around when the rebels finally went on the attack mode and continuously gained victory and the favor from the people.
I believe the devs should fix this campaign. It should be the following: 1. The Dai Viet Uprising, 2. The Mountain Siege, 3. Reaching South, 4. The Three-Pronged Attack, 5. The Battle of Chi Lang, 6. Final Battle: Hanoi.
The aoe2 devs are famous for twisting history, you see in other campaign too.

Do you play at hard difficulty? Le loi second mission is much harder than this

I hate this Le loi campaign. It's just unnecessarily so difficult, it's a pain in the ass. One after another each mission so difficult

Inside the "prison" are units, which killed the ram, you see some dead bodys.
The castles do not have murder holes when you have your initial army. As soon as you get the capped ram send it to the gate near the southern castle while dodging arrow fire with a scout by using patrol command. Once the gate is broken quickly destroy the castle and you will just have enough health to take out the towers as well so that you can save the ram.
I keep trying this, the cho ku nu keep killing my ram, can you post this in a video?
Fun fact, this is the fourth time Vietnam fought China for independence. They also kicked out the Mongols French and the US when either invaded or occupied.

The AI likes to steal a Relic that is close to Turtle Monk that you have to rush to get.

After i reached the orange base at the north, i sent my whole army and about 4 trebuchets to the south. I used my army as a distraction to the incoming Ming forces and destroyed the south castle.
destroying the north castle is easy for me, i just sent 1 trebuchet to a transport ship and sent that trebuchet to the spot just below the lake of hanoi above the north castle and just sniped it with little retaliation
