One of my most favorite things is you reading the tables and crafting lore on the fly. It's that kind of creativity that keeps me engaged in solo play.
Thrag got a little slap happy didn't he 😂
Love the glee Trevor has every time Thrag slaps him. Excellent episode!
Underground city ruins are the hypest thing every time. Looking forward to the next episode!
So far this is my favorite episode! Just a lot of cool stuff going on like the fight and the aftermath 👍
SPOILERS:
The way you had the assassin described the Death Knight was so cool (and terrifying LOL). Like if Akhom is this scary to encounter, I can’t imagine how terrifying his boss, Mot-Zaroth is gonna be like.
The interrogation was just great overall! Veil using magic to find Akhom was awesome and Thragg slapping the assassin was just hilarious 😂
I'm excited for this. That cliff hanger was so good!
Thanks for putting it on at a time that suits Europe as well as the US (sorry North America ;).
I really like the idea of pinning enemy initiative to a fixed value.
Found your channel recently, and loving your content 🎉. Look forward to the launch premiere, although it will probably be at 3am for those of his here in the land Down Under! 😊
Thrag is so metal... and a total machine. ;)
Oh, my science, can you imagine a rapier jab to the nose?!?
Yea i wanted to ask about this. Doesn't a rapier stabbing you in the nose kill you? I'm not very knowledgeable in swordfighting.
I really love that you cleared that rule break up! It made this video really good to follow.😊
Thanks Trevor, another awesome episode!
Thrag MVP this episode!
I'm going to check the Livestream VOD after this but I just gotta say, I prefer this kinda initiative, more concrete than the phases from previous version. I wonder if you get the dice initiative system inspired from PbtA rules or even 5 Parsecs from Home, they are pretty similar.
5 Parsecs was an influence, yup.
I love the fact that you don’t hide or deny your influences. This system is a sort of “Best of” distillation of all these great games. Love it and love your respect for your sources of inspiration.
Just began to watch it and have to like it! I hope I could get a part of your spark when you craft your stories in solo play.
Good episode. I can't wait for the next one. Also can't wait till your system is out, so I can force my group into playing it. They're getting kind of tired of D&D lately, so shouldn't have to work too hard to get them to try something new.
I am addicted, I just can’t wait for each episode ❤❤
The charge attack made me think ... wouldn't it be super interesting to have some kind of maneuver (a wild attack sort of thing) that reduces the skill of the roll by 10 but then added 2 SLs to it if the roll succeeds anyway? It would be a cool high-risk-high-reward mechanic. Less accurate but more powerful if you will.
There is. It’s called “Aggressive Attack” :)
Great! I'll probably be in time for the premiere and the live chat.
What a great show and the truly action packed... I need them rules!
Can you get Deathbringer to guest star as the Death Knight, please? 💀
Deathbringer cameo would be perfect 🤌
Fantastic episode!
12:28 Emerges from the smoke, Chariots Of Fire playing in her head. 😅 😂
The system is amazing and it's a brilliant episode, I absolutely love the magic lore, it's really interesting!!
Around 9:00, Thrag hits the green assassin in the left leg and incapacitates it, doesn't it mean the leg gets chopped off? How would you chop a limb off?
Love this episode
Thanks! Incapacitation is different from going over the Lethality Level. The first makes the limb useless, the second can kill you.
Nice t shirt, Mr. Devall!
It would be cool if when you roll a critical in a Parry you could Riposte, make an attack for free with -20
It's only if the attacker fails in the attack, but yes, that exists.
Thanks a lot! Great episode and amazing soundtrack 👍
Wait, if the death knight is just chilling underneath the city then why would the assassins have to use magic to communicate with him?
They only know the location of the altar where to perform the ritual to communicate, not his actual location (in Mot Tsaroth's old quarters).
Another great episode! One question (or perhaps a suggestion): MGME2 has a whole slew of tables that are skewed to specific things. In my own solo game I'm finding the locations and city tables particularly useful. Are you planning on using any of these in future installments or are you just going to stick to the main action and description tables?
I'll probably get to them eventually, but honestly the main tables provide me with virtually everything I need to riff on events :)
Dude awsome can't wait for the death knight showdown but a think that's gonna have to gear up mind coz as tough as he is akom seams way op 8ft
When are we gonna get more CARLOS?!?!
Any plans for when the kickstarter begins for some kind of VTT implementation of The Broken Empires? Like a Foundry module?
We’re looking into it for a possible stretch goal.
Sooo I guess plan to infiltrate the palace got completely sidetracked and unnecessary even. Such is a fate of improv and dice.
“The best laid plans… “
I like the game mechanics. Can't wait for the kickstarter.
Our boy Thrag doing WORK , love it
Loved the episode again! It was a bit of a numbers-heavy scene, though. The new initiative system does add more numbers. I hope you keep it simple enough and stay true to your “sim light” premise. I have tried my hand at my own roleplay system once and I failed, mostly, I think, because it got bogged down in numbers and details and more sub-rules to try and achieve “realism”. I hope I won’t need a higher degree in mathematics, so to speak, to play or game master this system. Great episode though: the enthusiasm, the voice acting, the gleeful giggles at some of the rolls... This is so much better than watching regular tv.
Excellent example of a master story teller. Loved the episode and looking forward to the next episode.
48 minutes. Nice action packed episode. ❤
Right when I have dinner. I think my plans are set 🖥🍝👀
Still enjoying this season. With how focused the season is, it's easy to see where things might be going from here, if the dice behave themselves. And for some reason I'm getting future season protagonist vibes from the General.
(I do not anticipate the dice behaving themselves)
The rules seem better this episode!
Yo, Trevor's hair be looking real nice without gel. I approve of this look! May I please have some more, sir? :)
Great episode. It was cool to see how the Spirit Mantle assisted the spellcasting.
For tracking hit location, armor, and damage, I think I’ll wind up making a small template of a stick figure showing the different hit locations, the damage roll that hits each, then a line for armor level there and another for number of damage taken. Then make some copies and laminate so I can write and erase to help track during combat. If the book came with something like that it would probably look cooler, just an idea.
That’s exactly what I’ve been designing for the character sheet. Great minds and all that ;)
This is getting good! It's been interesting to watch this system change as you play test it, and I'm looking forward to any other changes and how the story will continue to progress!
I like the adjustment to hit location on 1's die, it means that having a #9 skill is better than a #4 still, rewarding small increases in skill 1's value which makes sense. I also like the original concept of hit location being determined by part of basic roll, as I've never liked adding to number of rolls to make in combat.
Time to delve the city depths! And that deus ex machina 😅
I know I am late and rules may have changed, but wouldn’t they need to change their approach after failing the intimidation roll? Or did the interrogation not count as a social combat?
I wasn’t really treating it like an “official” social encounter. I was just playing around with the rules in the moment, and turns out they were dynamic enough to handle the improvisation!
Loving your descriptions of the characters and the action, as usual. I'm still not really sold on the Broken Empires rules system. It seems to me that the combat system needs 3 or 4 die rolls and multiple charts to determine what happens with every attack. I guess that's what some folk want from a combat system, but I don't think I'm one of them.
That’s fine! Not all games are for everyone. Although I should point out, the appeal of the combat is actually the reverse of what you say: we get multiple types of information from a single roll, with virtually no chart lookup. Just to be accurate :)
