You know, Mads. I've been watching you for a long while now. Your amazing. I like your work ethic. You get the job done. No baha baha. I wouldn't mind buying a sailboat in the 60's or 70 foot range, to have a go at. It would be fun. Thanks, Mads for the videos. When your all done, you could have finished a year sooner if you had not brought us a long. Thank you for the journey.
    Next video please! 👍😎
Oh! This is for your girl. 💐 From you fans.

Even though you've explained somethings a million times, I value being reminded why you choose which fibreglass cloth, use thickened vs non thickened epoxy, re-coating times etc... it never gets boring for me. Thanks for all the great videos to date... I've seen them all!

Hello! I've been binging all your Project Athena videos, and loving every glorious-sanding moment of them. I went to load this video, and I'm getting "This video is unavailable on your device". Has it been deleted?
Keep up the amazing work - you're a huge inspiration!

I just klicked around some of your earlier videos. What a difference. You have become a real boatbuilder and a TH-cam professional! It is amazing to see your personal and technical progress. Look how fast you are! Today, you could install a Refleks oven in a day (as a sidekick while building a new rudder)... Aaand: You should consider a bonus video like Davids „not a vlog“, where you show all the timelapse videos in real time. That would be nice DIY-meditation for fans like us :) Have fun in L.A.!

Hi Mads - I think you should consider painting the technical area white: it will make it easier to light and if you drop screw and other components like o-rings and such, it will be much easier to find them against a white surface because they will stand out more. :-)

Just a thought in your technical space - I assume you're also going to have access through a cockpit locker. That way there's ventilation, light, headroom when working down there and easy access to get bulky stuff in and out

    Super!
My boat is out of the water for the winter at home in Sweden. I am in the sun in Florida. In a few weeks I will start my own much smaller refitting work by removing the diesel. It will then be replaced by an electrical motor. Should be finished when the boat is ready for the water in the spring.

  • @Sailingadventure

You`re going to have a fantastic boat when you`re finished. I love the extent you go to to make everything perfect. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos.

Smart move mounting that electrical equipment on top of the old bunk ! If you do get water in the boat beyond the bilge, that equipment will be the last to flood. All other electronics should be mounted as high as possible. You may even want to consider mounting some kind of secondary battery for radios and other navigation equipment up high near the electronics. A small LiFePO4 battery pack and charger would be good.

Hey Mads, i have a tip for your sanding costume, get yourself (a few) race type balaclava. The open face type. In theory, you put your full face mask/respirator on, then get the oversized balaclava, slip it on, and that should keep the nasty stuff out. I used to do this whenever i'd work in unpleasant environments (i gave up now and just use a surplus Hazmat suit).

I was thinking about when you're sanding and using your vacuum cleaner if I was you I would put the vacuum cleaner on the outside of your boat with the tubes that are used in Central vacs in houses so when you turn on your vacuum cleaner outside it's just sucking the dust out of the cabin when you have the vacuum cleaner inside the cabinet it's sort of blowing dust around. And with this configuration you don't need a high-quality vacuum you can get a cheaper one with a high volume of suction with no need for a HEPA filter

Most marine inverters have cooling fans and big heat sinks for a reason. They don't like hot, confined spaces. Yours will appreciate a location some distance away from your boat's boiler (cabin heater system).

Heck if it wasn't for that, your video's would be, well, lacking the "Glorious Sanding"..Kind of like a Grilled Cheese Sandwich without Cheese. Hi Mads, Great episode, as always. Looking at the way that the light streams in through the fibreglass of the patch in your head - what about leaving a clear patch as a “light panel”? You could coat the outside with a clear UV protector and you’d have light in your head without the fuss of being able to see in or have to clean the window...

If you put several hundreds pounds of stuff in the starboard technical compartment, you might give some thought to what will offset it on the port side, else the boat will have a permanent list to starboard. Usually heavy equipment is kept more on centerline.

I still think you should put a couple of fuel polishing filters and a small pump just aft of the water maker. You could put a small day tank above the bathroom sink and the Refleks heater on that small 45 degree bulkhead between the settee and the bathroom door.

Thank you for another awesome video Mads. That technical room is going to be awesome! As I was watching today, I thought an interesting video you could make for the next time you visit Ava would be about tool details - what type of blade you use on the oscillating tool, various grits of sandpaper for various jobs, etc. I know what I use, but you have way more hours of actual experience and I would be interested in what you have found works best. Safe travels :)

that reveal/lip on the lower part of the access hatch - if it was me trying to get through there - would quickly be damaged from dragging tools, big feet, knees and probably my head in a rolling seaway. perhaps consider placing a small block there to make a flat spot that you can velcro a cushion to pad your knees when you're crawling in/out. i HATE boat yoga and anything to make it more comfy is always a plus with me.

Mads, while you're building in the head and sorting out your nice tech room, are you keeping ventilation in mind? I may be jumping ahead of you. I'm curious as to how you will vent that space and also how your engine space is vented. I am planning to build a Selway-Fisher 45ft Teign MB. It has a similar aft section with quarter bunks that I plan to use for ship's systems. Thanks for posting up and good work on the foam and glass bulkhead. You make it look easy but I know the truth. As much as I want to see the main area done (galley etc.) ... Given you will have limited work space when done that area, are you going to finish out the berth (sleeping area) first. That way you have more work/storage space and are less likely to damage any of the finished work.
