I'm surprised during the podcast Racquetball is not mentioned with tennis, ping pong, and badminton as crossover playing skills consider to Pickleball. Including among fundamentals translating are: through service motion follow through, forehand and backhand set-up step into with rotation stroke mechanics, quick hitting rally reflexes, situational timely flick-wrist snap, kill shot put aways, shot strategy selection, drive and touch placement, utilizing lob, costly mistake of vulnerably leaving your shot up, offensive and defensive play-positions, etc. Noteworthy, PB and RB more closely share than the other three, similar size equipment racquet/paddle head and handle. Wisely for RB protective eyewear already is required, as PB shot speed dynamics impacts concerns rise, can thus see as gains momentum translating beyond safety adoption suggestion. Thanks for your interesting PB topic discussions covered and also the available comments posts.
Racquetball IS the modern Pickleball game in two ways. Not so much in stroke mechanics but in tactics and serving. Good amateurs can hit 140 MPH and the strategy is "I can hit it harder than you can react to it" producing less than optimal swing. Racquetball players want to use power and placement on the serve to either win the point with a service winner or get a weak return which can be attacked and put away with one swing.
Great insight into today's game and the coming future of the Professional game. The one sport that no one talks about as a cross-over sport is Squash. The problem is that I don't see squash players ever wanting to cross over to any other paddle/racket sport.
Love the analysis but one can appreciate lack of knowledge of impact badminton players will have on the game as it's not played by majority of individuals, and certainly not at a high level. I would suggest that easiest transition to high level of pickleball will be by high level individuals from 1) badminton, 2) table tennis, 3) tennis. Badminton - same court size, same movement, similar singles/double strategies, incredible drop shots, over-heads, drives, mobility, reflexes, playing down-up shots, wrist snap on all shots. Table tennis - played with touch and feel from about the same distance as kitchen line, spin control, most similar to height of table/net with pickleball net, similar footwork and aggressive stance. Tennis - net players will see the ball as slow and big as volleyball, excellent control on volleys, reaction to speed ups, seeing court for open spaces. Top spin players will hit ground stroke passing shots and lobs with incredible spin and control.
I think you can throw in there Racquetbal. I use the racquetball forhand and backhand grip. Works good for me. Good players pretty good at reading the court. I like Racquetball so much better, because of the speed and quickness you need on the court. In pickle ball, everything is slowed down. If the game stays around, they need to make big changes to the court. Make it more entertaining. Need for speed. I’m just saying. PS to many injuries in pickle ball.
Let’s use computers and lasers to paint dynamic kitchen lines so we can handicap the taller players with a deeper kitchen😃 Cause lasers are too cool to waste. And if you step in, BZZZT!
Say, you have a bright future ahead of you in politics. Let’s level the playing field by handicapping the privileged taller players and bestowing justice on the disenfranchised, underserved (pun intended) shorter players in the form of forgiving court lines and sympathetic line calls.
Doing this for the Kitchen seems ludicrous, and obviously a joke, However, Badminton regulated the service height issue (same as in Pickleball originally, you were required to serve from below the waste) by using a laser to set a standard height for all players below which the must serve. WE should do that in Pickleball. That way, all the controversy around players like McGuffin serving from so near waste height goes away.
To become great in Pickleball, one should master the fundamentals of 3 racket sports. Ive have not seen teaching the all 3 as of yet. As I envisioned how a pickleball should be played, it shall be a fast rally game like badminton's turning defense into offense...and ..imposing offense to the opponents. I'm already applying the 3 component of sports and has tried to teach it in pickleball lessons I deliver. But if the fundamentals of each sport is not in your system...it would not come naturally in application, and need to practice harder for better execution.
As a 70 year old who plays regularly I've already seen that younger, tall players are very, very difficult to pass... and thus very difficult to beat. Even taller older players with reach have a tremendous advantage in this compact game. It almost makes me resent them all... I mean why isn't somebody like Ben Johns playing TENNIS, instead? Prediction: pickleball will never be a big time spectator sport because the players who will dominate this game will turn this into a net dinkfest.... which is quite BORING to watch.
Agreed that pickleball is a terrible spectator sport, especially compared to tennis. Only thing you can do against these tall players with massive reach is hit it at their feet which leads to dink fests that are fun to play but boring to watch.
1) scoring needs to change 2) serving needs to be allowed to be more aggressive and to become more of a weapon 3) paddle restrictions need to be eliminated completely. This A: gets rid of the cry baby drama - B: allows for the limits of the game to be pushed to a faster and more skilled game that will also be more entertaining In 10 years pickleball could be the racketball of the 2020's if it doesn't expand its boundaries

💯 I come from racket ball and ping-pong but years ago
Also think Squash is another transitional sport to not overlook. Their reflexes are insanely fast.
wtf is the intro with a 40 seconds ad.
Thank you both for your time and posting. Video cut out at 7:57. :(

Beach tennis is a sport that would be interesting to discuss here

Pinball is the best transition game to Pickleball. Being agile with the flippers is the same as being agile with the dink.
Tennis pros 😢 oh boy. It will change a lot.

What’s the deal? Why real racquet players now doing a senior citizen game?
I can't hear what Ben is saying
How do you spell he name of the player who came from badminton, Henry R…?
Hendry Winarto is the player they were talking about
Who is the badminton player they are talking about?
henry winarto
@@trainwithkpr He is no top 10 single in the world.
Could two court sizes, one for singles, one for doubles ever be a thing like in "that other sport"
Having to retrofit courts sounds like a terrible option
Costly for sure
No
They already added mini singles into the official rulebook this year

"About to change" ?? This dialog didn't answer much
Improve your audio....
neverrrrr!
Enough of the vocal fry --- can't listen to it. bye-bye
Good stuff!
Pickleball is not a sport
Keep being in denial
Well, you're wrong.
1) scoring needs to change
2) serving needs to be allowed to be more aggressive and to become more of a weapon

Its funny how you sit there and try to have a serious conversation about this joke of a game. Go to minature golf😅
Somebody needs to call you a waaaaaaambulance.
