Crash Holly, Innovator of the 24/7 Match. Sure they weren't really any different than falls count anywhere, but the fact that one could break out in the middle of another match was crazy entertaining.
That & the locations were unique at times (a hotel room [the Mean Street Posse posed as room service], an airport baggage claim [Pete Gas briefly became champ, only for Crash to quickly take his gold back & ride the escalator down to the next floor], Funland Funhouse [the sadly defunct child's entertainment venue that used to have the Rockafire Explosion animatronic band in it, as well as a videogame arcade & the indoor kiddie play place, which the live-action Elroy Jetson lookalike, The Headbangers, Taz, the Mean Street Posse, etc. all battled within, with Crash trapping his foes in the netting of the climbing structure, before sliding down a child-size slide to eek out another victory], a circus [with the Mean Street Posse jumping Crash disguised as clowns], WWF New York/The World [its usage in the late '90s/early '00s was why it was used as an available arena setting playable within WWF Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth & WWF Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain], etc.) rather than just running throughout an arena's backstage area.
Bray had other cinematic matches too like the Haunted House of Horrors Match, the Swamp Fight, and the Firefly Inferno Match. Ring of Fire Match against Kane too at SummerSlam 2013.
Atsushi Onita invented the Exploding Barbed Wire Bat Match and even had it patented. The only way any promotion can have that kind of match in their show is if Onita himself is in it
I loved raven's clockwork orange house of fun match type in TNA his run there was awesome I'm so glad the monsters ball match made it on the list that was crazy stuff going back and rewatching Abyss's TNA run.
I think Undertaker used to be heavily associated with HIAC until they started just making them a regular thing with the HIAC PPVs. So, fans who joined in like 2010 probably wouldn't associate him with it as much, but fans from the Attitude Era definitely would.
I mean, Taker has participated in more HIAC matches than anyone in history, so why wouldn't we associate it with him, especially given he was a part of the very first one & the most famous one 🤷🏻♂️
In Lucha Underground the "Grave Consequences" match was Mil Muertes' signature (so naturally he always lost) what made it different from a regular casket match though was that in LU it was established that being put in a casket meant actually being dead, and someone (usually Catrina) would need to travel to the underworld to bring the loser back to the land of the living
To be fair, TNA does still usually reference the whole "locked in a dark room for 24 hours" aspect of Monster's Ball whenever a new one is done, often showing the competitors in said isolation rooms with night vision for effect. That being said, aside from some initial selling of stuff like the bright lights when they come out to the ring the actual wrestlers themselves tend to not really sell the isolation/depravation aspect too much during the matches themselves.
Speaking of the Firefly Fun House Match, they should've made an Alexa's Playground Match. NXT basically stole the idea with the Devil's Playground Match.
The most famous casket match was vs HBK at Rumble 98 which had Kane chokeslamming Undertaker into the casket and setting it on fire and where HBK hurt his back on the edge of the casket
You didn't include Owen harts match type gimmick of the dungeon match Vs ken shamrock! Kinda expected to see this. As it's takes place in stew harts dungeon in their family home.
Actually, Steve Blackman had his own match type: Iron Circle. Think a close-combat parking lot brawl in which the competitors are in an enclosed space, encircled by cars. Whoever escapes the Iron Circle first after incompassitating his opponent is the winner.
Bray Wyatt not only had the Firefly Fun House match but also the House of Horrors match, the Swamp Fight, and the Pitch Black match. You also have Dean Ambrose and the Ambrose Asylum match and Dr. Britt Baker DMD's Tooth and Nail match against Big Swole at AEW All Out 2020.
I’ve always found it funny most wrestlers that have had a signature gimmick match rarely if ever win those matches. Mankind with Boiler Room matches, Kane with Inferno matches, Undertaker with Casket and Buried Alive matches, the list goes on.
The Undertaker also has the mortuary bag match! He had lost to the Ultimate Warrior but had made one of his signature gestures : get up even after being beaten that Kane will resume later!
I remember the first time seeing the hog pen match was for a Coliseum Home Video compilation hosted by Dok Hendrix. It was my first wrestling tape that I owned and it also featured Bret Hart vs Jerry Lawler in the Kiss My Foot Match and the Razor Ramon vs 1-2-3 Kid crybaby match.
a little known tidbit about edge & christian or cope & cag. they have only done the standard conchairto with each other. whenever they try it with another partner, they ALWAYS miss as a tribute to their time together.
Logistically I'm sure it was a nightmare to set up and work in, but the WCW triple cage was always a favorite of mine. Some things are just so out there that you fall in love with them.
Broken Matt Hardy snubbed so hard.. Create your own kind of match at your house with your family. span 3 major company's create your own mythology...yeah that doesn't rate.
The Undertaker taker also had early in is career a signature match called the bodybag match where the goal was to put your opponent in a body bag to win the match he had some early in is WWF run
80s kid here, a little off topic but i think my favorite matches of all time were the Mid to late 80s and early 90s royal rumbles 💯🔥 Waiting to see who was coming out next was INTENSE!! 🤔🤬🤣
Smoky Mountain Wrestling had a match similar to the House of Pain match, but you had to make your opponent bleed before you handcuffed them. I think it was called a Hospital Elimination Match.
One thing that can be said about Sargent Slaughter's Boot Camp matches... they were acceptable at the time. Except for the ones that took place in the 90's. No excuses for those
Before I watch, Im calling... Undertaker and and casket match, Dudleys and table match, Hardys and ladder match, and Vince Russo and FILLINBLANK on a pole match.
19:01 Cena did a interview on Chris van Vliet and apparently the firefly fun house was all Cenas idea. Don't know how true that is but that's what he said
165 casket matches!?. 😮 I'm 35 and I started watching wrestling when I was 7..... All these years I only watched roughly 6 casket matches that I can recall.
@@marshallmcluhan33 Your sticking to two things early in his career that he did being immature(and what all big stars were doing brother), out a 20 + year career. Come one now.🤦🤣
Road Warriors: Chicago Street Fight Dusty Rhodes: Bunkhouse Match Matt Hardy: Deletion Matches Bobby Heenan: Weasel Suit Match Kurt Angle: Kurt Angle Invitational Roman Reigns: Tribal Combat
Here's some that were missed this round: Final Deletion: Matt Hardy APA Bar Room Invitational: APA 5 minute White Boy Challenge: Rodney Mack Ready to Rumble 3 Story Cage Match: David Arquette Time Limit Hardcore Championship Battle Royal: Crash Holly Judy Bagwell on a Forklift Match: Buff Bagwell Musical Chairs Match: Eugene
@ That may be, but they have specific stipulations that differentiated them from their standard match type variation. The only reason Marcus Bagwell's mom was on a forklift was because they couldn't literally have her on a pole on the top rope, because she's a heavyset woman.
If you were to include AEW I would also suggest the house of black’s “house rules” stipulation As for TNA rhino had one (technically as he appeared in both) the elevation X match
Number one wrestling channel
Wrestle Me? This is a close number three though, cuz Cornette’s channel is also stellar. This one loses points for all the 90s worship involved.
Crash Holly, Innovator of the 24/7 Match. Sure they weren't really any different than falls count anywhere, but the fact that one could break out in the middle of another match was crazy entertaining.
Facts.

I hope yapapi strap match is listed for hogan
Glacier needed an ice box match, where you need to seal your opponent inside a freezer. 🥶
Great timing! Way to make this slow day better!
Bray had other cinematic matches too like the Haunted House of Horrors Match, the Swamp Fight, and the Firefly Inferno Match. Ring of Fire Match against Kane too at SummerSlam 2013.
Vince Russo - Something on a Pole match!
I guess you can technically include war games because back in the 80s it was originally made to put all four members of the horsemen together
Forget a "First Blood" match. Think of a "First Chin Lock" match!
The Davy boy smith invitational
That works for me brother
I’d buy that for a dollar!
But then the ref forgets the rules and it turns into a Most Chin Locks match
60 minute iron chin match
Atsushi Onita invented the Exploding Barbed Wire Bat Match and even had it patented. The only way any promotion can have that kind of match in their show is if Onita himself is in it
What about the "yapapi strap match" lol
One day, auto-correct changed it to Apple Pie. That's what I've called it ever since.
@@BeaconXDR911 I saw that match on VHS. That's an insult to apple pie.
Got this notification and now enjoying more wrestling bios while I work at the shop!
Hulk Hogan, would tell you Yapapi Strap Match was invented by him.
"That works for me, Brother!"
I can't be the only one who loves hearing Scott Steiner yelling "Holla if ya hear me"!!
Heard that 💪😎
I loved raven's clockwork orange house of fun match type in TNA his run there was awesome I'm so glad the monsters ball match made it on the list that was crazy stuff going back and rewatching Abyss's TNA run.
one yoy missed is Matt Hardys Final Deletion match... its like a surreal fever dream with wrestling!
He should have at least mentioned Hardy pioneering cinematic matches since he had the boneyard and funhouse matches in there
Great vid! i was expecting Kennel From Hell for Al Snow/Bossman.
Same. Or Dungeon for Owen VS Shamrock or Iron Circle for Blackman VS Shamrock.
lol the music for the firefly funhouse description might just be a tad loud. Otherwise great video as always.
The firefly fun house was less a match and more of an experience. And I must admit, it was a fun experience. RIP Bray Wyatt
💯
I think Undertaker used to be heavily associated with HIAC until they started just making them a regular thing with the HIAC PPVs. So, fans who joined in like 2010 probably wouldn't associate him with it as much, but fans from the Attitude Era definitely would.
True
I was thinking about this when taker's part was playing.
I mean, Taker has participated in more HIAC matches than anyone in history, so why wouldn't we associate it with him, especially given he was a part of the very first one & the most famous one 🤷🏻♂️
I LOVE this channel! Do you have any plans of covering TNA the same way you're doing the Monday Night Wars?
How about doing Wrestlers shows like Pipers Pit and The Funeral Parlor
The Barbershop
Also: Adrian Adonis's Flower Shop, Carlito's Cabana, Edge's Cutting Edge, MVP's VIP Lounge, MIZ's MIZTV, etc.
Owen Hart's Dungeon Submission Match was memorable.
Ooh, sweet! This should be a nice video topic!
The Firefly Funhouse match blew my mind. One of my favorite things I've ever seen in wrestling

Speaking of the Firefly Fun House Match, they should've made an Alexa's Playground Match. NXT basically stole the idea with the Devil's Playground Match.
Regal's match became the NXT Heritage Cup
Actually, that's more associated with Noam Dar, since he won it twice.
If you want to turn a regular wrestler into a supernatural character a Buried Alive match is a perfect transition like they return from the dead.
22:50 - Bro, hear me out, bro. Bro, what if the Monster's Ball match was a _reverse_ hardcore match, bro?
Rowdy Piper; Boxing Match 😂

Jerry Flynn should of spent time training in the Mufug Dojo

Funny to see how many wrestlers have losing or even records in their "signature" match. Guess it wasn't just Jerry Lynn with an F.
I’ve always found it funny most wrestlers that have had a signature gimmick match rarely if ever win those matches. Mankind with Boiler Room matches, Kane with Inferno matches, Undertaker with Casket and Buried Alive matches, the list goes on.

The Gulf War Bootcamp match with Hulk Hogan was surprisingly excellent
It was. It's different than the typical Hogan match and the Sarge bled like crazy. Definitely a hidden gem.
Wrestling Bios has done such a great job it's insta like and comment just to help out 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Can't believe I forgot about Undertaker using the body bags early on. Man, was he terrifying to 10yo me.
Jeff Hardy’s swanton in that monsters ball… no matter how many times I see it, just… Christ 😂
King of the mountain marches come to mind from TNA. That was a Double J creation wasn’t it?
Frankly, the greatest part of the Arkansas Hogpen Match happened off-screen.
Great Khali couldn't even walk let alone wrestle
Nowadays, a drive fŕom Anaheim to that part of Los Angeles is like a 2.5 hour drive one way
The Undertaker taker also had early in is career a signature match called the bodybag match where the goal was to put your opponent in a body bag to win the match he had some early in is WWF run
Mankind - boiler room brawls were always entertaining 😊
I'd be interested in seeing the Queensbury rules series get its own vid. I'd never heard of that in wcw before 😁

This was a great video but the music on the Firefly fun house segment was way too loud. Made it hard to hear you.
Definitely Body Bag Match, HIAC, and Concrete Crypt for Undertaker, and Ambulance Match for Kane.
Bray Wyatt not only have a Firefly Funhouse match, but it has a Firefly Inferno Match and a Wyatt Swamp Fight
Also the House of Horrors against Randy Orton after Orton burned the Wyatt Compound down/desecrated Sister Abigail's place of rest.
Norn Irons number one wrestling channel 💪
Dude! Jeff Jarrett and the King of the Mountain match!
Mr. Kennedy - mic check

The music is really loud on the Firefly Funhouse Match portion
Vince Russo with the anything on a pole match
Perfect timing
WHERE IS THE HULKSTERS YAPAPOW STRAP MATCH?!?
Bloodline rules. Relatively new but still very much a term for a specific groups gimmick.
Ugh Kane was so dang cool man. I loved the original Kane!
You forgot the body bag match first specialty match for the Undertaker
03:02 of the video.
Before I watch, Im calling... Undertaker and and casket match, Dudleys and table match, Hardys and ladder match, and Vince Russo and FILLINBLANK on a pole match.
Does tna exist on dvd? Preferably like a 'season' based format??
19:01 Cena did a interview on Chris van Vliet and apparently the firefly fun house was all Cenas idea. Don't know how true that is but that's what he said
Great video topic
So were the Queensbury rules matches a precursor to the Heartige Cup matches in NXT today?
Most unusual lion's den match would have to be Triple H vs Big Bossman since neither were MMA trained
You should do a video on Talk show segments like Pipers Pit and the Highlight Reel
165 casket matches!?. 😮 I'm 35 and I started watching wrestling when I was 7..... All these years I only watched roughly 6 casket matches that I can recall.
House shows.
@TheSBleeder still that's insane.... xD

God damn 165 casket matches? If you asked me to guess before seeing this my guess wouldn't have been anywhere near that.

I am in a state of rage and disbelief because you made a mistake on the apostrophe. It should be Superstars' Signature Match Types
"Superstar is signature match types"
😂
This is the whitest comment I’ve ever read.
I'm having trouble believing that. Surely you've seen comments that were more pale@@theitfactorjameswheezer2852
It does work if he's stating "A Superstar's signature match type". I just wanted to feed the post
I salute a fellow pedant. 🫡
in my head canon the yapapi indian strap match has become hogan's sig match
The King of the Mountain match is mostly associated with Jeff Jarrett.
Road Warriors: Chicago Street Fight
Dusty Rhodes: Bunkhouse Match
Matt Hardy: Deletion Matches
Bobby Heenan: Weasel Suit Match
Kurt Angle: Kurt Angle Invitational
Roman Reigns: Tribal Combat
TNA is a gold mine for this topic!
Dusty Rhodes and Ivan Koloff had a casket match in the 1970s
I know it was WCW but Judy Bagwell on a pole/ forklift was pretty wrestler specific
That's just part of Vince Russo's "[Insert Item Here] On a Pole" match stip that he inserted into both WWF & WCW TV.
Here's some that were missed this round:
Final Deletion: Matt Hardy
APA Bar Room Invitational: APA
5 minute White Boy Challenge: Rodney Mack
Ready to Rumble 3 Story Cage Match: David Arquette
Time Limit Hardcore Championship Battle Royal: Crash Holly
Judy Bagwell on a Forklift Match: Buff Bagwell
Musical Chairs Match: Eugene
Judy Bagwell On a Forklift is just an extension of Vince Russo's [Insert Item Here] On a Pole Match.
@TherealRNOwwfpooh you're no fun
@TherealRNOwwfpooh but if that's the case then Raven's rules shouldn't have been mentioned or Slaughter's boot camp since they're just no DQ matches
@ That may be, but they have specific stipulations that differentiated them from their standard match type variation. The only reason Marcus Bagwell's mom was on a forklift was because they couldn't literally have her on a pole on the top rope, because she's a heavyset woman.
You're fired dead Vince 0 The end you 're fired pinches Vince 0
What about the Crypt Keeper match for Undertaker?
One of my first thoughts was Wahoo McDaniel and the strap, or Indian strap match.
The best is when the guy with the "signature" match types consistently lose said match types, like Kane and Inferno matches lol
If you were to include AEW I would also suggest the house of black’s “house rules” stipulation
As for TNA rhino had one (technically as he appeared in both) the elevation X match
