    The part about installing the drain after the pan is installed when one has a concrete floor was very helpful. Thanks!

    Awesome Job!!!!.... I have to install a shower pan for the first time and your video will certainly help with the install......Thanks so much for taking time to share your knowledge and experience with people like myself that have zero plumbing experience. Also, thanks all those that shared their comments and pointed out how the install could be improved. I am now a subscriber.

    word of advice for the DIYers out there. You should put a layer of cement under the pan about a half inch thick or so to really anchor this pan.

    😊one bit of advice to prevent a lot of hair going down the drain go get a small stainless steel screen and put it under the final big square hole drain cover. It will save you a lot if grief. Also between those shims a good idea would be to put some pure silicon so that the shims are not taking up all the weight and it will be distributed evenly. Otherwise good job!
    I installed a small semi circle shower years ago and after about 7 or 8 yrs the threads became.e loose enough that the drain started to leak. I guess the constant use of the showers caused the threads to loosen. I think it would be a good idea to silicon the threads on the under side of the shower drain so they won't get loose over time . What do you think?😊

    You should wrap any piping where it comes into contact with concrete. If you don’t, you risk breaking the pipe due to expansion and contraction.

    • @ryanbuck3789
      @ryanbuck3789 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s to keep the lime from eating it over time. The1-2in of foam wrap around the outside is so after concretes poured you can then pull that foam wrap and you have a bit of wiggle room to like the p if it’s not perfect like coming up thru walls if it’s out a bit you can push it back in the wall

    That silicon on the castle nut is not only unnecessary but looks bad through the grates. At least use clear. But worse than that is, you didn't use a mortar bed. That pan will move and flex and eventually crack.

    I think plumbers putty might have been a better option than the silicon?

    • @cdurch1
      @cdurch1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe, maybe not... I've seen elsewhere that silicon is more appropriate to use on the more flex-prone shower pans. The reasoning was that the plumbers putty dries and eventually losses its flexibility over time. With a flexing floor, gaps can occur and these leads to leaks. The silicon is less prone to lose its flexibility over time. However, for nonflexing pans, putty is the preferred option.

    This guy fails through the entire video and people tell him he did a good job. lol
    Seriously, he fails at leveling the floor. Tells you it's level while you can hear it rocking back and forth. Uses shims which most manufacturers say not to use because it still isn't level. Doesn't use anything under the shower pan so it will constantly make noise when shower is used. Uses way too much caulking on the drain. Installs the shower brackets with drywall screws which will rust immediately. Smears caulking all over the inside of the drain which is completely unneeded and will be visible through the shower drain grate.
    6 months and this whole thing is going to need to be torn out and replaced again. I'm really curious how he thinks he's going to waterproof that joint in the tiles when they are replaced.
