Windette arguing that Nailmaster’s Glory isn’t good because “is doing more damage to a boss really going make the difference between winning and losing” actually had me dying.
Rusty's argument is really not any better like, his argument is that it does more damage to a boss you only have a little time to damage like NKG but... can't you just- cant you just charge a nail art normally?
@@yannickrijnen6855 sometimes, not without sacrificing an extra hit that you could get in otherwise. But I think I’d still rather do more damage in the same amount of time y’know. Like staggering, charging a great slash and slashing regularly. Instead of just slashing twice (or three times if you have quick slash), you get extra damage from the great slash.
Honestly nailmaster's seems like something that was always intended for the coliseum for me.
@@yannickrijnen6855 yeah but nailmaster's glory makes charging time much quicker, and when ive used it in some of the pantheons its either made some bosses be done much quicker, with less damage dealt to me, or both
as someone who also never used nail arts, I too would make that argument lmao

Hi! Speedrunner here! flukenest is only broken in the way WIndette describes on Patch 1221. On current patch, it's much weaker and costs three notches, as well as actually counting for staggers (which it did not do previously) The category that uses 1221 flukes is 106% TE NMG, which is the max% category for the 1221 patch.
(To make things even more confusing, it is actually broken in a completely different way on Current Patch, where the fluke hitboxes can hit an individual boss multiple times each if the bosses move in a specific way while overlapping with the flukes. It has recently been implemented into some Pantheon IL speedruns, but is not even close to viable anywhere else)

Exactly, also Mark or pride is really important in the exploring part and fighting in general not just boss fights.
Rusty advocated for sharp shadow and that's enough for me
that thing should have never reached as high as B tier
It was really useful when i was doing Radiant Watcher Knights. 2 out of 3 of their attacks give a solid Sharp Shadow opportunity
Sure, it's just 1 nail hit, but it's not about a huge amount of damage; it's about opening up new opportunities
sharp shadow dmg sucks ass tho

Although as someone who dies to bosses often even after 90 hours in game (still not beaten it lol) I think I allign with Rusty more
Do you know about charm combos
@@rotatorebato you mean like how Unn stacks with Spore shroom or similar? Yeah I know. I just...died a lot in the beginning of the game as Hollow Knight was the first metroivania and game I played in a long time.
Also I'm the type to like... just explore. So some of the hours are probably spent just wandering around Hallownest and finding cool things.
@@lunaakuma5044 there are some really vague ones, like defenders crest and glowing womb increases damage and elegy plus fury makes elegy active at one health and it has the increased damage.
And I had the most trouble with optional bosses, like traitor lord and hive knight
The thing is that Windette's "Git gud" mindset is only partially valuable. When someone gets to that level of skill at a game, they have to set up their builds differently to account for that level of skill, as they can take different risks and pull of additional maneuvers others cant. The tier of a Charm needs to also consider everyone's skill level to an extent, from beginner to master, as there are Master Only charms (Fury of the Fallen) and beginner charms (Compass, Gathering Swarm) which are only useful at specific skill levels.
Going with Dark Souls as an example (since it's what I'm familiar with) Heavy Armor is largely a beginner-mid skill build to assist those not used to the attack patterns of enemies and bosses. BUT. No Armor is a tactic utterly worthless to any but the most skilled BECAUSE they have spent so much time with the game that they don't need to worry about taking damage. And those no armor players can still get clapped by Heavy Armor simply due to the fact they can't memorize everyone's weapon loadout.
So, while the "Git gud" mindset has a value, it isn't any more valuable than a mid-skill level player since extreme skill has a different set of considerations. How good equipment (or Charms, or cards) is has to take into account how well those of other skill levels can use them. And Rusty tends to understand that better, which is impressive, as many who achieve a higher skill level often forget what it was like being lower.
@@rotatorebato I only had trouble with hive knight because I hate how long it takes to get back to him. Also I ragequit on traitor lord twice. I just hate him.

That charm almost got me killed in mantis village by making all the mantis agro even after I beat the mantis lords
hiveblood is petty good when playing a pantheon with the soul binding, considering you'll barely be healing there
I have actually used it in vanilla P3, because I struggle so bad w hornet 2 and Sly. My philosophy is that I just need to not get hit for long enough that I never use soul for healing and never reach 1-2 hp.
Also love them ragging on charms I genuinely really like/ use situationally (Grimmchild, Mark of Pride).
When silksong comes out rusty will be trending again then when the game dies he swiches to dead cells
I think silksong is gonna be alive for a long time man
How you gonna argue about Nailmaster's Glory and never mention the Colosseum? Also, while I respect Windette's skills, he needs to remember that most people who play the game haven't absolutely destroyed every challenge in the game. There's room in most peoples' builds for stuff other than spell charms.
yeah that's fair
Uhhh, Dream Wielder is actually better in the Colosseum, because, for one, you can leave one stupid enemy that's easy to avoid and farm soul from and then just heal up and get ready for the next wave and for two, Nailmaster's Glory won't really help for Colo? I'm sorry, but taking out one enemy, when a Dive or Shriek could do the same, I don't see the argument for it to be in the Colosseum, only in Colosseum 1 I could argue its usage, when you first go in and have no idea what's going on. And then outside of Colo and like, 2 bosses(NKG and Markoth, both of which have better builds that don't have nailmaster's glory), Dream Wielder is **much** better than Nailmaster's Glory could ever be. In exploration around the map you can get in a quick heal or enough soul for a tough encounter.
For NKG I also don't understand, when you can just get in and get two or three hits which would do the same damage as a Dash or Great Slash.
For Markoth just use Elegy, it literally destroys him. Or just get good and defeat him without the need for elegy or nailarts, seriously, he's not that hard.
@@thebattle7000 Markoth can eat ass. Give me a working strategy against him and I'll.... I dunno what I'll do but I will sure do something

I'm surprised Windette doesn't think charms in general are a crutch
"What's strength gonna do? Deal more damage? What a crutch"
alright, ranking charms based on usefulness agains Eternal Ordiel actually sounds pretty good, can we expect such video Rusty.?
Hiveblood's one of my favorite charms personally. It's just so convenient during casual exploration. It means you can seamlessly continue without needing to stop and heal as long as you don't get hit twice in quick succession, which isn't gonna happen during casual exploration unless you're in deepnest or something. For that reason alone it joins dashmaster as a charm I always equip when I just want to wander around. I also find it useful for bosses that have lots of health, and also don't give you many chances to heal, like Watcher Knights or Grey prince zote. Those boss fights are heavily endurance based, and hiveblood means that as long as you don't get hit too frequently, you have much more endurability to match those boss fights. And it also makes the bees your friends, which makes it S tier on its own.
The first time I beat NKG was when I combined deep focus and Hiveblood along with Grubsong and Sprintmaster.
The sharp shadow debate cracked me up because it was apart of my winning build for my first true ending XD. I had sharp shadow, long nail, mark of pride, and quick slash. I didn't cast a single spell except to heal, and just went at it.
This was such a fun talk and a cool debate!

Thats like saying heavy blow is great cuz it makes moss charger a lil bit easier.
@@bloom1351 no, sharp showdow is not only for hive knight it is for more bosses and can 1 shot bugs, while heavy blow bearly makes a different in the MMC fight and for some bugs you can literally hit them away to give them a better angel to hit you
@@alidaher9301 I should of think about that but okay.
I've been playing sharp shadow + dashmaster since my first game, it's great to combo any enemy. I've beat up PoH with it, it's so integrated in my play style that I would struggle with platforming without it.
@@alidaher9301 you see the problem is, shade cloak is the good item in these situations, its the cloak that lets you dash throu enemys and not the charm, that little extra damage barely changes anything. Idk why im putting this much effort to prove that sharp shadow is a bad charm when its one of my favorites, the design is sexy as hell and its pretty straight forward, its mediocre and after toying with it you will never come back to it. (Also it takes 2 charm notches so F-)
Nail arts are really useful if you play with them, it hads some extra damage, and NMG makes it so much faster it's vital in a Nail Art play, which is worth it, and it's only 1 notch. Dream nail are even more on occasions to be honest. And if you find it worthless because you forgor about, blame your memory, not the charm lmao. try change my mind, you can't.
Yeah, rusty's "it's not situational just because you foget to use them" is in my opininon the best way to put it
Ya know what would’ve been a good change to Grubberly’s Elegy (or at least a neat Charm Combo if you combined with with Spell Twister, Grubsong, or some other soul charm)? Firing the beams when you’re at full soul (extra containers excluded) rather than full health. That would warrant it’s 3 notch cost. As of now it’s only useful on Radiant or when you’re using Lifeblood Heart/Core.
That would be cool
Yeah, as it stands right now, i see it as a charm with a cool effect and the potencial to be a lot better with a few tweaks
I agree with nail masters glory, as when I have an extra slot and don’t have many good charms, I look at this, say “an almost instant windup for an attack that one host primal aspids, or a charm that make you walk slightly faster, and like any sane person, I go for nail masters glory
Dude, sharp shadow is a necessity for my boss builds, not because of the extra damage, but the extra distance. I think sharp shadow allows you to safely dash through every boss in the pantheon outside of NKG because...that's fire...and maybe MMC, haven't really tested it. Failed champion is a nightmare without it because his attacks are so fast and trying to shadow dash through him normally will result in 2 damage, sharp shadow gives you a free out to so many attacks that would normally be much harder to dodge
You know you can jump or move away to dodge attacks instead of shadow dashing throu every living creature, such a waste of two charm notches that could of been replaced by spell twister. (jk)
Sharp shadow is what got me through my first NKG fight and Pure vessel fight. Jumping over attacks/dodging is so much harder. Just dashing through an uppercut or triple slash while dealing damage is just simpler.
Yeah the extra distance is what helps me outpace PV’s triple slash, without that you can barely dash through him or away from him.
Also are we not gonna talk about sharp shadow in watcher knights? Literally one of the easiest fights with sharp shadow because now dashing through is incredibly easy unlike before and you get so much new time after a dash to qs strength his ass into oblivion
honestly, Sharp shadow is actually OP because of the distance for me. While practising Markoth for P5, my struggles mainly came with me being too greedy. I’ve seen people complain about the platform, but Sharp shadow completely destroys that problem because of the extra distance.
SLANDER against MY dearest longnail charms?? In all my builds now, can’t get hit if your 5 feet away from me
mark of pride only gives like 1cm of nail range but the effect of that 1cm is GIANT.
I dunno, I really liked Shape of Unn. It let me make a healing window out of any attack that could be dodged without jumping or dashing. It's a boss charm, yes, but as most of my deaths came from bosses anyway, it really helped. And Windette's "just don't get hit" argument is kinda mean because, wouldn't you know it, but not a lot of people have put 500+ hours into the game lmao.
"just don't get hit lmao" - a professional idiot with too much free time
@@Windette damn it you said it before me
Shape of Unn is how I first beat pantheon of the knight. I used it plus quick focus to cheese Pure Vessel by sliding away for 2 or 3 free heals every time they do the triple slash attack. Made the fight so much easier, especially becuase shape of unn is also pretty helpful versus Markoth and maintains at least some use versus watcher knights and soul tyrant
@@JacobPDeIiNoNi Consider jumping, its a really good way to dodge hits instead of wasting 5 charm slots on a gimmick.
@@bloom1351 Not sure why you see this a waste of 5 charm slots on a gimmick. It's the way I beat the pantheon, and I wouldn't consider that a waste. I know that jumping IS an effective strategy to dodge the triple slash, but it doesn't let you heal while doing so and because of that didn't work as well for me. The stress of being at the end of the pantheon meant that I would almost inevitably get hit by attacks, even ones I new how to avoid, so some method of healing was a necessity. Jumping is also far more risky to do pre-emptively than starting a shape of unn heal, since Pure vessel also has a jumping attack, meaning you can very easily take contact damage if you're careless. Whereas you can pretty much mindlessly heal with shape of unn and as long as you have quick focus, be fast enough to avoid most things. the only thing I think you can't react to once you start healing is the void tendrils, and PV only does that at low health. So essentially, it's just different strategies, for different playstyles and the strategy you used, if that was jumping a lot, isn't necessarily going to work for me.
Watcher Knights: We fear no man.

KING SOUL IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHARMS
(for the time i had it, it got turned to void heart pretty quickly)
If it was 3 notches, it’d be pretty good. 4 notches, kind of bad but 5 NOTCHES???
@@waerden it's okay that it takes 5 notches, not that it's a balanced price,
but i feel like it's overpriced on purpose.
unless you are making a pet build or get soul from getting hit, you have to go on the offensive to gain soul, wether it's dreamnail or normal attack you still need to get close to the enemy and find an opportunity to do so. king soul allows you to just dodge until you have enough soul and breaks this system.
it's good that every other way to get soul then going in for a dreamnail or a strike is mostly doesn't worth it.
btw, it's better for path of pain then hive blood.
also the charm itself is like the pale king, sounds good, isn't really that good, takes your whole budget and disapears after a short time of having it.

It’s now part of both my exploring build and boss fight build :)
Nailmaster glory is in my opinion S+ charm and one of the best charms in the game. I really felt hurt when he was arguing with you putting it in A tier
When I was attempting Traitor Lord, I kept trying to use sharp shadow, but it made the parkour needed to get to him impossible. It might be good, but it is actually terrible for any bosses that you need parkour to get to. The parkour was made with the regular shade dash in mind, so it always zooms you into a spiky wall. It’s good for colosseum though (In my opinion)
sorry for answering a 4-month old comment, but a good option if you can't manage to do the parkour with it is setting a dream gate, die/exit the game and adjust your build.
i managed to get to traitor lord with sharp shadow by adjusting my movement according to the extra dash length, but i did get hit a few times so i'd still say it's a bit difficult to pull off.
Mostly doesn't even matter anymore but hey, there's a shortcut from greenpath through massive moss chargers place straight to traitor lord. Though, you can only open up the way from queens gardens. Even then, there's a shade gate so...
No need for much panicking. if you die, there's a bench near the entrance to mmc just above. Convenient bench.
In my opinion, hyveblood actually does have one good use, and that is in the pantheons with the soul binding, because it allows you to spend that soul on maximum spell damage
Seeing nailmaster glory at b just hurts because it was my winning build for both pantheon 5 and radeint radiance
Fun fact: Shape of Unn is very useful for SoB, because when you are healing it allows you to duck under the Mantis horizontal Lance strike

Me in the middle of a test: "WHAT!?!? WHY DID YOU FLEX SO HARD???"
This actually isn't THAT crazy. Considering that NKG is difficult to do normally, the difference between doing it flawless and doing it on Ascended actually isn't that wide. PV was my first successful Radiant boss (as a conscious choice, because it's funny). The difference between having to do a boss in 3 hits and doing it in none isn't a huge deal. Especially for a fight as rhythmic as NKG
For real, that's not even a real argument

I use hiveblood always on palace and soul binded pantheons
I love Grimm child not because it's good, but because it's your little buddy, who is traveling with you. He help with loneliness
I can see utility in hiveblood in certain situations. Namely in certain fights that it may take you time to get through, but you can reliably dodge many of the attacks for, but get tripped up once in a while, such as traitor lord or the mantis lords/sisters of battle. It's not exactly the most useful charm out there, but there are situations where it could be. Certainly moreso than heavy blow or even shape of unn. and it can be used during travel in treacherous areas such as queen's garden or as everyone points out, path of pain.
Sharp shadow is literally vital for me when fighting nkg

I made the mistake of taking Grimmchild to Mantis Village one time after I had beaten Mantis Lords. The little brat kept attacking the mantises and making them hostile again...
Shape of unn is one of my favorite charms. It allows you to simply undo an attack of a boss for free. Since it is unrealistic to expect that you radiant every single boss every single time, you probably need to heal. Healing is perfectly balanced to be risk-reward. You risk getting hit, but if it works it undoes one. Healing is hard because you need to time it, and many times you just can't even heal at all. This gives you the ability to undo a hit easily. It lets you heal on like 2/3 of NKG's attack. It lets you heal during most of the radiance's attacks. It gives you an opportunity to undo an attack on every single boss except for like PV. I never do a p5 run without it.
As an anyrad player I agree with Windette on carefree

4:38 me and my brother argue on why I shouldn’t certain charms that I want to use because
“I just think they’re neat”
I'm all for nail arts, ima spinslash Windette.
I know this has nothing to do with the video but I got an ad on this video for youtube premium and it was a grandma talking about something, probably youtube premium. Then in the last second of the ad, a man slid in through a window which they shattered while going through. He was stuck in a pose with his hands up like he was praising the sun on doomsday. It confused me
I actually found sharp shadow really helpful when I was knocking out the radiant fights in the hall of gods! The extra dash distance (and the extra nail hit) really helped me on bosses like watcher knights & oro and mato. And I’m usually not a sharp shadow advocate- but it certainly CAN come in handy!
I’m about 99% confident that Carefree Melody is the only reason I’ve been able to get to P3. That charm has saved me from the brink of defeat. It’s so useful against bosses that deal double damage
Tip: just dont get hit
@@bloom1351 I would have to say that this tip helped me a lot with radiant flukemarm
After having played a full minion build and getting closer and closer to beating pantheon of gods, it is a heavily underrated build and actually requires so much skill to play. Its insane how much stuff you have to keep in mind when fighting bosses with it, it's so stupidly conveluted but unbelievably fun.
The only time I ever used hiveblood was in a rando, when it costed 0 notches
I claim all credit for the collab. I got rusty to friend windette on discord on stream.
I only ever use sharp shadow for S P E E D or enraged guardian. That's it. It's cool though.
Mark of pride isn’t a win condition or a crutch. Its an addiction. I can’t play without it without getting fucked by my nail length being smaller. Please send help
FireBjorn... viking of old
Nobody can make me not use my grimmchild
thank god you put the shade changing on speech or i would be confused half of the vid
I'm the only one that thinks of Void Heart as the charn that makes your shade not attack you too? Besides the unlocking the end of the game thing, if it was like, one or two notches, I still think it'd he useful to get your geo back. Not S tier anymore, ofc, but still good.
I like using sharp shadow against any boss that dashes, I feel like an anime character.
To defend Shape of Unn, it makes your hitbox smaller, allows you to dodge a hit whilst healing, and when paired with Quick Focus, allows you to cover ground if needed, and Deep Focus doesn’t lower the speed gained by Quick Focus.
However committing 9 slots to be able to heal like this is a huge missed opportunity for damage and/or soul gain
@@galladeintheshade4422sure that might be a bad thing for some people. I find it well for me as I’m a coward who tries to stay alive over all else, so it’s pretty good for me.
@@TealEyesPersonalstaying alive means nothing if you can’t kill the boss
@@Echantediamond1 Yeah, my charm tastes have changed and SoU is dead to me (/hj)
@@TealEyesPersonal Oh I still think that SoU has its uses, it’s a solid c tier (and goes up to s in the most niche of circumstances).
Grimchild: super annoying, that the bosses get unstaggered
heavy blow: super useless, because it only staggers.
So do you or do you not care about boss staggers?
Shape of Unn + Deep Focus is expensive but OP
S tier
Nail masters glory, very useful against fast enemies/ those with little windows (hornet, broken knight, etc)
