Heya, I'm having some difficulty with my 99 Deville. charging voltage drops with accessories on but without any other loads being added the voltage continues to drop. the gauge in the dashboard has always read less than actual (for example gauge reads 13.8 while the battery is actually at 14.2) but last night I saw the gauge go down to 11.8 which was around 12.9 on the battery which is badly low. I was considering changing the alternator but with how bad it looks I don't want to waste all that time if it's not the problem. is there any known problems with the charging system/excessive current draw on these?
Hi, there could be several reasons for your issue. How does the vehicle start when cold? Struggles? Could be the alternator, the battery, the wires & corrosion, bad grounds, etc. This only happens when you're running all your accessories?
@@LordBrazy612 sorry for delay, here is what I found: The new/rebuilt alternators come with the correct pulley. As you noted, there are 2 diameters, 57 and 62 mm, so you need the car engine type for the correct pulley size. VIN 9; 300 hp, or VIN Y; 275 hp. I'm guessing with the upgraded vehicle package you have the 57mm pulley which will turn faster since you have more accessories than the base models.

Did you take the access panel on frame off ? Makes it so much easier and shouldn't have to pull radiator or fans,
