    In 19th century Victorian Britain, incredulity towards the Bible had begun to set in bringing the Bible’s historicity into question. In the ‘Post-Age of Enlightenment’ period many scholars had eroded the confidence in the accuracy of scripture. However, when Layard produced his first book “Nineveh and its Remains” it became a bestseller and rejuvenated a dying faith in the public consciousness. Other than the Old Testament and an obscure description of ruins by Greek historian Xenophon, in 400 BC, there was no other historical record to prove the existence of Nineveh. The city had long since been considered a myth. What Austen Layard ultimately discovered were the records of kings and their conquests which directly paralleled the biblical account.

    That was interesting. I was studying Cushites today mentioned in the Bible and they have found archeological evidence of the Cushites in Sudan. So seeing this today just added another to the hundreds of verifiable people, places or prophecies that are in the Bible. A book written by I believe 40 authors over 1600 years, on 3 different continents in different languages, by people who did not know each other. And when the Dead Sea Scrolls, written a thousand years ago, were found, they matched our current Bible. So nothing was changed or lost in translation. They actually count every word in a line etc. If a page didn't have the correct number it was discarded and the page was done again. That is how careful they were to make sure nothing was changed before we had copy machines, printers, typing machines etc. I am 100% confident the Bible was written by man with God's assistance.

    Before Covid I would often go to the Black Obelisk in the British Museum. I have picked up three books on the Assyrian language (it is called Akkadian) that uses the cuneiform alphabet. I can read the bit about Jehu in the original language. I am not perfect at it yet. There are two other rooms with friezes from the walls of the palaces at Nineveh at the museum. One of the rooms has a depiction of the siege at Lachish. It shows the whole story of the siege. There is a cuneiform inscription on it that says that Senacherib was there and it names the town as Lachish which is the second most important town of Judea. The Taylor Prism is in the museum which tells the story of the war against Judah and how Hezekiah, the king of Judah, was "like a bird in a cage in Jerusalem, his royal city". It does not say that Senacherib took over Jerusalem. The Taylor Prism agrees perfectly with the account in the Bible. The other room from Nineveh has a part of it where they left the soot on the friezes. The soot is the original soot from the fire when Nineveh was destroyed in 612 BC.
    Close to the Black Obelisk there is a frieze that shows the first people from the 10 tribes to be exiled from israel. It shows the exile from the town of Ashteroth (Ashtartu in Assyrian) (the "oth" ending of Ashterorth is the feminine plural in Hebrew. "Tu" is the feminine plural in Assyrian.) It is from 732 BC when the first exile was done. The British Museum explains that this is the case on the internet. The sign at the museum does not explain any of this detail at all. A number of the signs in the museum do not give the really interesting information at all. The main exile of the whole of the ten tribes was in 722 BC. When you look at the clothes of the people on the frieze the clothes are exactly the same as for Jehu & the Israelites on the Black Obelisk. The other parts of the obelisk have people with different clothes.

It truly transports the reader along with Austin and his adventures, to the great hospitality the Arabs showed, to the marauding bandits.. it leaves nothing out. The hardships, the achievements, the sickness that accompanied travelers in far flung regions of the world. I left that book behind in the library of the largest federal prison for others to enjoy and learn from. Not only is it an immersed experience, but truly makes the KJV so much more appreciated. Not noted in this presentation is that Sennacherib stated WHY he did not destroy Jerusalem.
    He stated that Hezekiah's army deserted him and joined the Assyrian army.
    So Hezekiah no longer had an army to resist the Assyrians with.
    He also stated that Hezekiah surrendered up his daughters as hostages to the Assyrian King, to assure the king there would be no future revolts against Assyrian authority.
    He also claimed booty (Gold and Silver) was surrendered to the Assyrian King, and that a heavy yearly tribute was imposed on Hezekiah, being sent to Nineveh.
    He also took parts of Hezekiah's kingdom (Judah) and gave it to neighboring non-Jewish kings.
    As to the death of the Assyrian king by his two sons, that event event happened some 20 years later, after the fall of Jerusalem to the Assyrians.
    To read the Bible account, one is left thinking Sennacherib was slain by his sons SHORTLY after his return to Nineveh from Jerusalem, instead of 20 years later.
    All in all, the biblical account is fiction when compared to the Assyrian records.
    Yes, an army was destroyed at Jerusalem, but it wasn't an Assyrian army, it was Hezekiah's army deserting him to join the Assyrian army.

    Yes, the later parts of the Old Testament are largely accurate and based on real historical events. That doesn't mean that earlier parts, like the various stories found in Genesis, reflect actual history. Knowing where to draw the line between myth and history is the tricky part.

    Islamic state accidently found evidence of Ninevah's repentance digging tunnels under what was believed to be Jonah's tomb, even tho' e they ruined most of it , after they fled ,Iraqi archeologists found statues and wall reliefs turned upside down , which was a common act of repentance in ancient times , so by Islamic state trying to destroy the Bible, they unintentionally found evidence of it , shows God has a sense of humour.

Nineveh the city was only recently rediscovered through archeological digs, while the region of Nineveh was besieged by heretics and gnostics.

    Nearly six million Assyrian Christians dot the world.
    Mesopotamia is the homeland of the Assyrians. The famous royal cities of the Assyrians, Ashur, Nimrud (Kalhu), Arbela, Dur-Sharrukin and Nineveh were built in it. The Assyrians ruled for approximately 1,300 years - from about 2000 B.C. to 612/10 BC - in northern Mesopotamia an ancient landscape between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. A clear reference to the existence of the Assyrians, on the other hand, can already be found in the Old Testament (1st Book of Moses 2:14).
    There it says:
    * “… the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates..."
    One day we will return to our country. Assyria belongs to the Assyrians. Isaiah 19:23-25

    How does this prove the authenticity of the Bible? Even if there was a record found in Nineveh stating that a Hebrew prophet, who was brought to the city via a giant fish, introduced the people to the Hebrew god and the city repented, this would still not prove the Bible to be historically accurate. The Bible said, such and such city existed, therefore, since a few of the mundane facts in the stories of scripture can be shown to be accurate, we can know Jesus Christ is God and those who believe he is God will spend eternity worshiping him after they die... Quite a leap my friends. These videos are not made to sway the opinions of any skeptics, simply conformation bias for the christian base so that they feel their beliefs are justified.

    • @Mr.Ut21
      @Mr.Ut21 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      You seem to be under the misguided notion that faithful Christian's base thier faith on archaeology and secular evidence.
      Such is not the case.
      Faithful christians have thier convictions based on the fact that the Holy Spirit has spoken to our hearts of the veracity of Jesus Christ and His mission.
      The fact that archaeological finds support some of what is spoken about scripturally is more akin to a man learning WHY exercise is good for him, even if he already knows that it is, regardless of not knowing the reasons for it. It's fun.
      I'm curious why people are so defensive of Christians tying secular history to archeological fact. Much of the bible is, in fact, secular history after all.

    • @stuartmoser3048
      @stuartmoser3048 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not misguided on any notion of the christian faith. I grew up in church, was a believer almost all of my life and even attended a Bible college for 2 years. My point I was trying to make is that, yes, there are things mentioned in the Bible that did really happen and places that existed. However, this does not mean that because some of these passages that can be verified have been verified to be true mean that all that cannot be verified are also true. Many major claims that can be verified in the Bible can be shown to have never happened, ie; the creation account, the flood, the exodus, ect...
      My main point is that for a religion that is faith based, Christians really want it to be historically or scientifically verified. Doesn't sound like real faith to me if you constantly need to have it verified or look for ways to show that it could be possible.

    • @henrywilliams1439
      @henrywilliams1439 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What sense does it make to say "claims that can be verified... never happened." And nothing in the Bible has ever been shown to have never happened.
      Creation obviously happened, for here we are, on a planet totally unique to all the others, in an excellent location of our galaxy suited to view the vastness of the universe outside our galaxy yet still examine the inner portion; the Earth's orbit around the sun perfectly suited to human life & the moon and its effect upon the Earth that we couldn't live without, the orbit of the moon set in place to always face the same portion of its surface towards the Earth; the atmosphere needed to sustain life, so thin above 24,000 feet we go blind for lack of its protection; existance of water, etc.,etc.
      Not to mention animal life, which the more they are researched the more questions are asked as to "how can it be by accident?" and the more questions are found than answers. Books and documentaries abound telling of the insane coensidences needed for it all to happen without design, and that's by people who started out firmly believing in evolution, but are now in a state of awe and bewilderment.
      As for the world flood, every part of Earth has been found to have been covered by the sea, from the mountain tops to even the deserts; even the great Sahara was once covered by the sea, whale skeletons are found there, the Spinks has water erosion, the pyramids of Egypt are made from material that was on the bottom of the sea and marine life can be seen in the blocks even without a magnifying glass; the whole United States was once covered by the sea, that's why we have vast salt mines from the salt left behind; every culture tells of the deluge from their own remembrance & language after their languages were confused at Bable, etc.
      As for the Exodus, the Hebrews in Egypt are recorded by Egyptian records as the Hyksos, the migration of the Hebrews are mentioned on clay tablets of several cultures and in the Ptolemy records.
      As for as "Christians really want it to be historically or scientifically verified." You mean as if evolutionist don't?!! Besides, the answer to that was explained already. The "...constantly need to have it verified or look for ways to show that it could be possible" is exactly what defines the athiest, and what evolution consist of. The real truth is that it takes far more faith to belive in evolution, a theory which is easily be-bunked.

I didn't either until a few years ago. I encourage you to check out the channel by AronRa. @henrywilliams1439 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      On the contrary I have heard and read enough of what atheist claim and I know it to be nothing but biased research. I'm sorry, but it's ridiculous to hear you make claims about bias. I have also heard, read and talked with men who once fell for the same nonsense that you have, but using science found that it was all a lie. Some of these men had written books and papers which are still being used in classrooms today, yet they no longer ascribe to it. They have written books about how they were fooled into believing it starting back when they were a kid in school. They earned several degrees in their fields of study and know the whole routine, they taught it to people just like you. They tell us what goes on in secret, that's how we know what goes on behind the scene, and it's all a lie based on bias. I encourage you to seek what is real. God is real. If I were to tell you what he has done in my life you wouldn't believe it, nor would most Christians. I know he's real, I have my proofs, greater than any proof of science, from the one who designed all the things that are studied in science. I know nothing can change your mind, but I can counter your false claims so that somebody else who still has an open mind will know there is another view, and maybe they won't fall into the garbage pit that gullible people like yourself have. I really am sorry for you, I wish I could help you, but we both know your not listening. But you will find out someday and you will remember that somebody once tried to help you.

    Next talk about the Hebrew Bible's account of the building of the second temple in Jerusalem. Whoever wrote it couldn't quite remember the names of the Persian kings (rather they did remember some but made one name up and ordered them in such a way that would indicate enough time had past between the writing and the events themselves for the author to mix up the names of the rulers of the land they were in). Sure there is a passing amount of accuracy in SOME of the biblical stories but there are far more inaccuracies. The authors somehow even claimed that Darius I (the 4th Persian King of kings) conquered Babylon even though they knew (and also stated) that it was Cyrus (the 1st Persian King of kings) that freed the Judeans from Babylonian captivity. If you know the history of the area you realize how much of the biblical account is incorrect in a dumbfounding way.

Human settlements are always next to sources of fresh water (rivers and lakes, the Tigris, Euphrates, the Nile). These floods traumatize the people, and so they write about it in their mythology, and as with anything, they would attribute it to their gods. The 4000 year old Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest written story, and in it there is a flood story about a guy named Upunatishtun. He builds a two story ark, covers it in bitumen/tar, and puts 2 of every animal in it. Then it rains for 7 days and 7 nights. The gods were angry at humanity for “being too noisy.” But one of the gods tipped him off before the flood so he could save himself. Do parts of this story sound familiar? Is that a coincidence?
