Long waited and long anticipated, the Ash Crimson saga lore video is finally here! Covering King of Fighters 2003, 11, and 13, learn the story of the anti-hero Ash Crimson and every stunt he's pulled ot make everyone so angry at him! This video was long delayed but in the end it makes for a better video because now I can give you a happy ending to everything, rather than the dark depressing ending thanks to KoF XV and Ash's return. If you could spare a like for the video it would be appreciated big time!
The thing wish Ash is that I remember everyone just hating his guts. No one liked Ash, and as an outsider to the KoF franchise seeing the 180 after the big reveal as to why he was acting a certain was genuinely so cool to see. Loved the breakdown.
Glad Ash is getting more openly positive reception these days, since I always thought his design was as good as Iori "whoever created this character is a genius" Yagami. From personality to aesthetics to battle mechanics, Ash is designed to troll you on every level and it makes him a great bit of spice to the cast flavoring.
Whew happy that's finally complete! Rugal season is right around the corner for KoF so expect that to be the next few days of content on the channel. After that... who knows!? im tired right now lol
Ash was like the most hated heel in the business for the entire saga, until at the very end out of nowhere he turned babyface. Then you learned he was a face all along and his heel act was just a ruse to foil the actual heels. A true tweener in FGC history.
The thing nobody seems to ever mention is, there's a nasty caveat to Ash being back. Since Ash erased himself from existence by ensuring Saiki could never go back to the past and erasing HIM from existence, if Ash is now back, that means Saiki, his ancestor must ALSO be back. Otherwise it doesn't make any sense, since Ash literally can't exist without Saiki existing too. That'd just create a whole other time paradox that somehow sustains itself despite being impossible, which would undoubtedly screw everything up in many ways. Saiki is either back in his own time ready to try the gate thing again, or he's back in the present ready to try to awaken Orochi again. Only thing is, this time if Those From The Past want to start anything, they'll run into direct opposition from the Hakkeshu, who are ALSO back now. Which honestly would be awesome to see.
Between you and Thorig Arcade, these saga reviews are so refreshing and takes the "SNK BOSS RAGE" out of the experience and allows you to enjoy the story that's unfolded. Playing it game to game, you can get lost and confused. But having it all presented like this is a godsend. THANK YOU ROOFLEMONGER! ❤
A little note: It apparently Kukri was the one to help remember Betty,Lon,Shen and maybe Oswald about Ash, and they're the only ones since he's treated by Bellamy as a newcomer and Chizuru is concerned about not knowing him despite having the feeling of already know him. So they're using kukri's clan and story as a plot device to make sense why Ash is here.
I might've said this before in the Ash Trailer Breakdown and Lore video, but I thought it was fascinating seeing the entirety of Ash's master plan! KOF 13's ending hits pretty deep, but for better or worse that sad ending turns upside down after Verse brought the dead back to life in 14, and now Ash is buddy-buddy with his childhood friend and his former teammates!
I was waiting for this. I know you said that you put a lot of work for very little return for these lore videos, but they are highly appreciated for those of us that are watching them.
yeah return wise I could slap something random together about strive or dbfz or whatever and it would 100% do better view wise, and take 1/20th the effort. But I promised, so its finally here.
It still baffles me we didn't get a team from Those from the Past, concidering their presence throught the story of the games... Botan, Shroom, Rimello...
The saga my 1st KoF game (XIII) resided in. In retrospect, I feel the Ash Saga had one of the best starts lore wise compared to the other sagas with '03. We had the winners of the KoF not being the main protagonists but instead Ikari Warriors bringing them into the spotlight again, the bringing back of the Sacred Treasures team and threat of Orochi and Team K' beating Mukai keeping the NESTS Saga protagonists relevant, seeing the full power of Chizuru under the strings of Botan. The initial intrigue of Those from the Past, creation of Adelheid and Rose. Mystery of who attacked Takuma etc. But after that it unfortunately started to lose its way imo and whilst the team compositions, the ending and revelation was effective the rest left me in favour of the last 2 sagas over this one imo. I will say though with Shun'ei' creation, whilst I tolerated Ash before I appreciate him a lot more.
Fan since KOF 99' here, and i feel your commentary a lot, i loved when non-main characters are given the spotlight or at least given a task for the current game. I LOVED the Krohnen/K' feud and have the best endings of XV despite not being the focus of the saga, sadly the rest of the non-main teams suffered of irrelevancy as well, Terry needed to be on the Hero team spotlight instead of Benimaru, Terry was the obvious choice to partner Shun Ei' since the connectios with Tung, which i can't believe he went: "Should i call my best ex-disciple which defeated another powerful ex-disciple of mine, which is respected by most fighters and would jump right in no questions? Nah, let's call someone who i barely know just because of a random martial art and put someone who i don't even know to guide Shun E' and Meitenkun" PS: We need the FF team with Andy or Mai on the lead with Joe.

From how irrelevant Team Orochi and Ash were to the plot when they came back, team Sacred Treasures having their least plot relevant story ever in a KoF game, I'd argue K' as well having hist story just be finding Kula who was only mad about the amusement Park is a far cry from his plots since '03. The one thing I'll give it though is the depiction of the characters was spot in and the development of Krohnen/K9999 was great. As for the protagonist team, I feel Tung Fu Rue should've returned with them but having Benimaru wasn't the worst choice imo considering his well established status of winning KoF tournaments but I agree that he doesn't have the experience of helping someone keep their power controlled. Only reasons it wouldn't be Terry are for 1, he doesn't have that experience either and 2, as they said they don't want to progress the AoF or FF teamsin KoF unless said characters get developed in their own franchise which sadly means they'll probably never win the title in canon.

You said that K' and his team do nothing after 2003, but that's not exactly true - from what I remember from playing K' team in XIII story mode they do some investigating about Those from the past in some ruins on distant desert-looking locale and actually end up bringing Heidern some valuable intel. Huh, Ash is a LOT different then I thought he'd be, I always assumed he was just a really wacky villain or something not an anti-hero, when I get my hands on KoF15 at some point I'll definitely have to give Ash a try as this breakdown has easily made him a favorite for me

I'm gonna be a hundred percent honest, how snk handled Ash's crossdressing and quite possibly transgender personality is how you should do it in my opinion. no one makes a big deal about it, no one ever tries to bring it up or discriminate against it, and the whole plot doesn't revolve around that idea. media should honestly look at this for inspiration for how to handle the sort of thing. making it a whole character trait or make a big deal about it it makes it incredibly unrealistic and downright more annoying than anything. this in my opinion is the best way to realistically bring the concept into a story and make it cool, instead of feeling like propoganda or "spreading the message" those outside of that bubble wouldn't care about
Ash's femininity is a large part of why he was despised back in the day. It wasn't a factor in the games but the players hated him for it because that's just how things were back then. These days people are a lot more accepting thankfully.
Not the Greatest Saga ever Written in my personal Opinion, but it's Original Characters (Shen Woo, Duo Lon, Adelheid and Oswald) from the Ash Saga were very Interesting for it's Time.

Don't you like when the villains are killed off by the power of script? 😆 Ash is my least favorite protagonist. I don't like his design, gameplay and his annoying personality. He is an annoying jerk. He almost ruined everything at the end, only to Elisabeth to fix Ash's mess. Another thing I don't like about this saga is how almost all the new male characters have a very feminine design. Shion being the worst case. But that's just my personal opinion. Finally, the whole Kensou's Dragon Spirit and Ron with the Hizoku plot was forgotten again

I love and hate KOF XIII Love it because of the awesome sprites, gameplay, stages and music. Hate it because of the roster, it is one of my least favorites in the whole series. My main issue is how it felt like the Orochi Saga all over again 😑 I missed the awesome roster of KOF XI, Duck King, Adelheid, Oswald, Momoko, Malin, Gai, Silber, Gato, Jenet, etc. And the biggest reason why I am mad about KOF XII and XII is because those games killed the Maximum Impact series. SNK Playmore spend many hours and money in the developent of those games. They had to cancel many upcoming projects like KOF Maximum Impact 3, KOF MI Regulation A 2 and KOF MI 360 (for XBOX 360) games that SNK announced in public events and were in development. Many people think the MI series was a failure but in reality, the MI games sold very well in all the world. And that's...makes me sad 😢😭
Well, though ash has a bad personality but at the end of xiii he sacrificed to Elisabeth and his friends. In kof xv ash have a little bit improved temper. He was also had a change of temper in his end. But the verse saga changed it. I know why someone don't like this saga. Some character looks feminim But it's doesnt make bad story. .I didn't force you to like it
personally, I think this Saga is the work arc. Bad Story, Bad Main lead, too many dropped plot lines( EX: Ron and Kyo sacred treasure that Ash wanted). The only redeeming quality are new KOF characters and KOF 13.
I have been trying to find out about top players of this game and KOF's competitive history. It feels like it's easy to find that for games like SF, MK and Tekken, but not this game. I've heard of Xaohi and Reynald, but that's about it. Even Tokido has competed in KOF, but people only ever focus on SF for him.
lots of people say they ruined their story by bringing ash back, but i am glad they did, i was really sad for that, i really wanted a happy ending for them
I hate when characters are brought back. Should be the next topic of your videos. Do you bring back old characters or create new ones. Why kill off a good character in the first place???
Ash was very much hated at the time which is why they weren't scared to kill him off. Time heals all wounds though and a fondness was built for him which is why he was brought back.
The Ash saga is like the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy for me. The main issue I have with this saga is how it feels like the Orochi Saga 2.0. Pure fanservice. Let's going to make a story about people who want to wake up Orochi, again. Using Gaea's Will for the main big boss, again. Making a new character who fights like Rugal. Chizuru as the subboss. Iori going berserk and attacking his teammates, again. Bringing back Vice and Mature, who were canonically dead. Using the teams from the Orochi Saga for KOF XIII.
@@rooflemonger Pretty much. And I hate that. That's why I love about the NESTS Saga, it was its own thing and the characters introduced there are much better than the characters of the other saga. I am so tired of Orochi and the Hakkeshu. Sadly, KOF wants to be very safe for their stories now. And the actual saga is easily the most dissapointing. Pure fanservice to bring back dead characters. Sorry for sounding a bit angry I just hate the actual lore of KOF I much prefer the old canon when death had consequences.
Unfortunately there's a lot less to go on there. 14/15 is the end of the saga, there is no trilogy. Basically only exists to bring the dead characters back to life
The chinese spear doesn't use feathers. it's horse hair and the reason for that is actually very sinister. also that's not a rope dart. it's a chinese whip.
One of the most fun versions of Kyo? Nah, he's the boring one. NESTS Kyo is where it's at =P Also caught myself thinking "XIII one of the best what now? I want Shion and Mukai to be playable in KoF 15. Those two were my highlight in this saga.

I think it has the deepest overall story. Guilty Gear probably has "the most" story though in terms of the world they built
The ending for KOF XIII was beautifully done...and then XIV came along and said "nah fuck dat"
Finally the tales of fem boy and classy lady gent is here. Also isn't funny Ash is technically the strongest protagonist .
He is when he's jazzed up with 2 sacred treasures boosting him, but by himself naw he's not a match for Kyo or K'
And he doesn't put much effort into his attacks, imagine if he went all in with them.
Finally been watching all the prev lore vids in prep for this, def gonna keep watching the kof lore vids multiple times

I'm gonna be a hundred percent honest, how snk handled Ash's crossdressing and quite possibly transgender personality is how you should do it in my opinion. no one makes a big deal about it, no one ever tries to bring it up or discriminate against it, and the whole plot doesn't revolve around that idea.
media should honestly look at this for inspiration for how to handle the sort of thing. making it a whole character trait or make a big deal about it it makes it incredibly unrealistic and downright more annoying than anything. this in my opinion is the best way to realistically bring the concept into a story and make it cool, instead of feeling like propoganda or "spreading the message" those outside of that bubble wouldn't care about
Ash's femininity is a large part of why he was despised back in the day. It wasn't a factor in the games but the players hated him for it because that's just how things were back then. These days people are a lot more accepting thankfully.
Those from the past was an amazing addition to the franchise! I only hope they were all playable! Hopefully... in the near future they will be?
Not the Greatest Saga ever Written in my personal Opinion, but it's Original Characters (Shen Woo, Duo Lon, Adelheid and Oswald) from the Ash Saga were very Interesting for it's Time.

I HATE how KoF XIV and XV ruined the bittersweet ending of XIII, bringing back Ash and many KOF villains from the dead.

I don't like his design, gameplay and his annoying personality. He is an annoying jerk.
He almost ruined everything at the end, only to Elisabeth to fix Ash's mess.
Another thing I don't like about this saga is how almost all the new male characters have a very feminine design.
Shion being the worst case.
But that's just my personal opinion.
Finally, the whole Kensou's Dragon Spirit and Ron with the Hizoku plot was forgotten again

I love and hate KOF XIII
Love it because of the awesome sprites, gameplay, stages and music.
Hate it because of the roster, it is one of my least favorites in the whole series.
My main issue is how it felt like the Orochi Saga all over again 😑
I missed the awesome roster of KOF XI, Duck King, Adelheid, Oswald, Momoko, Malin, Gai, Silber, Gato, Jenet, etc.
And the biggest reason why I am mad about KOF XII and XII is because those games killed the Maximum Impact series.
SNK Playmore spend many hours and money in the developent of those games. They had to cancel many upcoming projects like KOF Maximum Impact 3, KOF MI Regulation A 2 and KOF MI 360 (for XBOX 360) games that SNK announced in public events and were in development.
Many people think the MI series was a failure but in reality, the MI games sold very well in all the world.
And that's...makes me sad 😢😭
Well, though ash has a bad personality but at the end of xiii he sacrificed to Elisabeth and his friends. In kof xv ash have a little bit improved temper. He was also had a change of temper in his end. But the verse saga changed it.

Ash is definitely my least favorite KOF protag . Never a fan of stealing characters power type characters. His themes slap though 🤷🏿♂️

personally, I think this Saga is the work arc. Bad Story, Bad Main lead, too many dropped plot lines( EX: Ron and Kyo sacred treasure that Ash wanted). The only redeeming quality are new KOF characters and KOF 13.
I have been trying to find out about top players of this game and KOF's competitive history. It feels like it's easy to find that for games like SF, MK and Tekken, but not this game. I've heard of Xaohi and Reynald, but that's about it. Even Tokido has competed in KOF, but people only ever focus on SF for him.

Ash was very much hated at the time which is why they weren't scared to kill him off. Time heals all wounds though and a fondness was built for him which is why he was brought back.

The main issue I have with this saga is how it feels like the Orochi Saga 2.0.

Using Gaea's Will for the main big boss, again.
Making a new character who fights like Rugal.
Chizuru as the subboss.
Iori going berserk and attacking his teammates, again.
Bringing back Vice and Mature, who were canonically dead.
Using the teams from the Orochi Saga for KOF XIII.

Unfortunately there's a lot less to go on there. 14/15 is the end of the saga, there is no trilogy. Basically only exists to bring the dead characters back to life
