That 20 yo kid who’s receiving the inheritance is gonna be wealthy beyond his dreams. Smart, hard working, and has a good heart, rare to find in the younger generation these days.
I love that 20-year-old's mindset and achievements. Thank y'all for educating your listeners that inheritance is not fraud towards "the society", but something you can give the heir big credit for, for handling it wisely and turning the inheritance into stable generational wealth and charity.
My thought on that letter from the Y refi sponsor is an annulment as well, Ken is right on this one that was my first thought before he even said the words.
Yeah, she is still in a victim mindset. But at least she called the show out of desperation, maybe that will get her on track soon, I think reality is setting in. I think she needs to really drill down on a budget, it seems crazy that she can't afford at least min payments on these accounts for the time being until she can find extra work or a higher paying job
To the young guy that inherited $3m do not tell anyone about this. Maybe your closest friend and your girlfriend once you are married.. You will make yourself a target. People asking to borrow money and long lost family members wanting a piece. It ain’t worth it. God speed
Honestly, it's not that he did wrong for himself, but the vast majority of consumers can't handle CCs responsibly. I like George's explanation there about CCs and CC companies.
I attended an economic summit this morning and 37% of all credit card holders are making minimum payments. They will never become millionaires because of that.
Obviously some people can use credit cards responsibly, like the 80 year old caller. It's not all or nothing. Many people should not be using them, but I don't like the condescending attitude about it either. That guy has way more money than George, if he is being honest, so why not listen to what he did as well? Unusual maybe, but he isn't stupid either.
100 % - and I don’t like George’s holier than thou attitude towards him with his ethics speech. If everyone investigated the ethics background of every company and movie and entertainment venue, we would have VERY limited options, including even areas like restaurants!
There were 2 men: one was saying he's a millionaire just to marry a hardworking woman and live off her money. The other one is a millionaire, who doesn't tell his girlfriend yet. Fantastic stories!
49:55 they are missing the obvious math problem. $44000 a year is $3,666 a month her car and student loans together is less than $900. She says she is not paying rent or utilities this means she is using $2766+ for insurance, gas, groceries, and spending money. I am married with two kids I have rent and utilities (granted very low) but groceries are much higher than national average especially with all our food allergies. And our monthly budget for everything except debt payments is $1800. She should be able to due at least minimum payments plus $800-$1200 a month. She also has a spending problem.
We too have reaped substantial benefits from credit card rewards. We have zero debt and have been out of debt including for our homes for many years. We put almost everything on credit cards including utilities. It’s been great. Obviously discipline is key.
Agree, there are people who are responsible with their money and people who are not. Saving my paid-off-in-full every month CHASE Sapphire points to use at a 25% discount when paying for travel related costs.
Also, the point is that someone is actually paying for the benefits when people actually use the points/miles, etc. If I pay off my card (and pay no interest), my annual fee doesn’t cover the amount of rewards I cash in on, so is it ethical that we are reaping the benefits of millions of financially illiterate people that are getting stuck in a debt cycle? Are we benefiting from people being slaves to debt?
19:20 Christine definitely needs a free book, because the price, if she had to pay for it, would drastically reduce the 300k in her checking account, along with 1.8 million in retirement.
TikTok for entertainment, but I wouldn’t base my retirement plan or financial future on it. Real advice has to come from someone with experience, not just someone trying to go viral
I agree. My nephew is always quoting these ‘financial hacks’ from TikTok. I keep telling him, if you want real results, you need a real plan. That’s not coming from a 60-second video
It’s true. I’ve seen people make poor choices after watching those quick videos. I’d rather talk to someone who’s been around the block, like Joseph Nick Cahill. He’s worked with high-profile clients-businessmen with billion-dollar companies, even politicians. He’s got the kind of experience that actually translates to solid advice
Joseph Nick Cahill? I’ve heard of him. He’s supposed to be one of those top-tier advisors, isn’t he? The kind who actually has the credentials and knows what he’s doing.
Yep, that’s him. And he’s been in the game a long time, guiding everyone from celebrities to seasoned entrepreneurs. If you’re looking for real strategies, he’s the type of person who can actually steer you in the right direction
That’s the difference right there. People like Joseph Nick Cahill have proven track records and real-life results. It’s one thing to watch free advice, but if I’m serious about my future, I’d much rather consult someone who’s got that level of expertise
What I think is the credit card companies should be limited on amount of interest charged. If an individual earns on average 10 percent on stock markets over 10/12 years why should a credit card company be allowed to charge 25 or 27percent? They take advantage of people and people should start saying NO to the cards. Percentage rate should be regulated.
I agree that it should be regulated better; however the fact that one can get 10-12 investing is actually proof credit cards should be higher interest because the risk to credit card company is actually much higher than investing in market. However, they need to be held to a better disclosure standard and further limiting the amount of credit limit they issue.
CC companies should be capped at 15 or so percent. They just prey on uneducated and spenders. I mean you can say it's not their fault , but they certainly exacerbate the problem
@ there’s no victim mentality here but when one invests and the banks give you .01 interest on your money and the stock market pays about 10 % over about 10 year average you think it’s okay for CC companies to charge 27% interest and government to give student loans for basket weaving classes? Doesn’t bother me as I am debt free. I think society allows certain things that take advantage of people That’s my overall point. But I do not have a victim mentality. Lol

No. We have to mark up our pricing 3% across the board and then give discounts for cash. So customers paying my credit card would have been charged less if none of our customers paid by credit card. But they do, so they pay more. If no one paid by credit card no companies would pay fees, and they could make the same profits by bringing down their prices as a result.
My point being- if no one used them everyone could charge less for all products across the board because operating costs would be lower. You looking at the fact that you pay the same price with a debit card is irrelevant and not looking at the big picture of how prices are determined by companies.
It is staggering how much debt young people are taking on with student loan debt! And, yet, I can tell you that having worked with them in both high school and college, it is almost impossible to talk them (and their parents) out of their "dream schools." In the Nicole call - biology is the college major that more students pick who do not end up working in the field they studied. And an hour and a half from work?
Sometimes yes but most of the time no. I say no because at least half of everything out there on TH-cam it's actually been proven to work and a fact-based thing in reality unlike the stupid tide pod challenge shit from I don't know how many months or maybe years ago from Tik Tok and other forms of mental asininity
7:00ish please don't try to shame or guilt me into believing that my CC rewards are gained from lower SES people and those who are undisciplined. Those people would still be in the same SES and/or undisciplined state, as well as in debt, whether or not I gained rewards while paying off my cards every month. The reverse is also true...just because some people can't handle CCs properly doesn't mean they cause me to mishandle mine (or handle them well). Silly argument. You could also equate their being in debt to me being debt free. Just because I was responsible and have no consumer or mortgage debt doesn't cause others to have debt, RS.
Yes you're right those same idiots who continue to think using credit cards Will enable them to finally move up in life Will remain And broke Period if you do the same things you've always done especially using the same tool That never changes in its results and you expect different results that's the definition of being stupid The absolute majority of all Millionaires decamillionaires and sent to millionaires that Ramsey Solutions have interviewed do not say that they built wealth based upon making money off their Cash Back Rewards or taking advantage of rewards points on credit cards Perry the fact the vast majority of them have never touched a credit card or they stopped using credit cards and then they noticed they started making monetary progress in life. If you want to be dumb enough to worship that that's your fault your choice and your problem. You got to change your mind and your mentality if you expect to have a real change in your life
You feel guilty over it, no one can make you feel that way. It was just a factual statement that rewards are there for you because broke people pay so much interest
@@TulsaDude That is not the whole story. It's not only CC that give rewards - hundreds of other companies do as well from behemoths like Amazon to Sams/Walmart to my coffee rewards at Dunkin' Donuts. Are they able to offer rewards because broke people pay so much interest? Even if they did not charge interest, banks would make money, as they do right now, from other spin-offs from CCs like the "float" between the charge and the payment. The argument that RS people try to make along ethical lines is nonsensical. They make the "moral" argument b/c they can't convince people who use credit responsibly any other way and they have made the internal pledge that any use of CCs is bad. They should just state the truth and be done with it: If you are tempted to overspend, cannot track your charges, and have built up debt using CCs, then STOP using them. This is the same argument that can be made for drinking alcohol. Some people can drink in moderation, and others can't - so if you're in the second category, don't drink (at all). If you overspend, don't use CCs, at all. For the rest of us, there are reasons to use them responsibly.
@@TulsaDude you misunderstood me. I DON'T feel guilty, even though the Ramsey personalities try really hard. I'm not responsible for other people's mishandling of their money. They're going to do what they do no matter what I do, and vice versa.
Anson, if you have $3 million, you need to see a financial adviser and a CPA, not rely on a call-in radio show. I also hope you used a false name and city to call in. You do realize that with your first name (which is rather unusual) and your city, that everyone with your name in your city could be easily looked up on public information sites which tell everything about someone. Be cautious!
Good for you George. You responded to the 82 year old with respect, intelligence and grace ! Ken was the antithesis and reacted very small and shamefully
Anson from KS, you really need to seek out a professional financial advisor as well as a CPA. You need a small team to give you guidance and protect you from taxes and bad investing. Take your time and go slow. Go seek out a career and put in work so you feel worthy. And as far as George always plugging that investment calculator with that damn 10%, c'mon man, kick it down a notch to a more realistic 8%.
George is being realistic. The market has averaged a little bit over 10 and a half percent throughout the past 40 plus years. Dave Ramsey will tell you the same damn thing
You act like the people using credit cards and paying them off on time are doing something morally wrong because poor people and “minority areas” are not. It’s called personal responsibility…
Mark the Pastor - a LOT of churches do not have a pastor right now. There are some excellent companies that match future pastors with churches who need one. There is certainly a church that would be a better fit for you with a higher income! Yes, you may have to move. But kids adjust and wives can also find another job if they are working. If this is really a spiritual call for you, then you might need to look for another situation.
Nicole, wow, you need to take some responsibility. Seems your poor decisions were someone else's fault, not yours (sarcasm). It's your past relationship, the government, car dealership interest rates, Mom and Dad pushing college loans. How can all the bills be behind? Again, take some responsibility. Quit going out, quit eating out, quit getting food delivered to you. Quit all your old habits. Look where they have got you. Get a second job. Waitress, Deliver Pizza's, do something. You've got to own this. Listen to George and Ken. Quit blaming life. Put your adult/big girl pants on and go get it.
@@amireallythatgrumpy6508 Then they must become one hermaphroditic being. In the occultic world, Madame Blavatsky wrote that being both male and female at the same time was the highest form of alchemy.
Alan's call about credit cards who has a very high net worth - he must not have been listening to this show often or he would have heard the guilt trip laid on him. Actually, preying on the lower incomes is not the only way banks make money on CCs. They also make money on the "float." And why are the RS people making an ethical case out of this? When a financial argument won't work, use a guilt trip? If so, do the RS personalities verifying that every company they do business with does not take advantages of lower-income individuals. I doubt it. They are just fixated on never acknowledging that CCs can be used by responsible people to their advantage because they deal with so many people who have lived beyond their means and are in financial trouble due to their own choices.
Veronica's call should let everyone know that IN NO CASE should anyone marry someone without seeing his or her credit report. That would have shown her that the future husband was scamming her and, I agree with Ken, he should be prosecuted for fraud.
it's entirely possible he has a decent credit score. Even if he didn't, he would've just spun some fantastic story about why and she would've believed it. This woman needs to take some accountability for her foolish choices. He contributed nothing towards basic rent and utilities all the while telling her he owns several businesses and has loads of cash. Who could believe something like this.
I am not talking about the credit SCORE but about the entire credit REPORT which would have showed her all his open and past accounts in the last 7-10 years. These are two different things.
If I'm not reaping the benefits of the credit cards, does it then go back in the pocket of the less fortune? Nope. However, by reaping the benefits, I have more money to help the less fortune. N, that's a fact.
The credit card company always wins. THEY make money off both types of users: Those who pay in full in every month and those who pay the minimum or less.
@@Tiv_Love_Cars One way is that when you buy stuff with a credit card, the stores/websites have to pay the credit card company 3% (or whatever the rate is now) of that transaction in processing fees. With cash transactions, there are no card companies involved and the store gets all of the sale.
@@Tiv_Love_Cars You don't pay the 3% directly to the credit card company. The store pays it to them for your purchase. The credit card company only gets that 3% when you do not use cash. Use cash, they get nothing. They only get their cut when you use a card; their cut of YOUR purchase. That's one way they they profit from you. Cash buyers: CC company gets nothing. Card buyers: CC company gets money.
Making credit cards illegal would so drastically change life as we know it . I’m honestly on board with it as well because it’s for the best of everyone to be living within our means and be debt free
While part of me says I would consider that to be a totalitarian Authority in move that removes a piece of freedom of choice, I will definitely agree more that it's far more important to take away the scam that is the credit card and I'll further add to your point in my opinion that places like title loans and cash advance loan businesses should never be legal on United States soil. Those are the absolute worst from what my math has told me
I am opposed to legally banning credit cards; however I would support credit card companies being required to have shorter easier to understand terms and being required to clearly explain cost of carrying a balance and doing a better job of limiting credit limits based on income. Before I started Ramsey plan...I had a credit limit of $130,000 and made about $27,000 a year that is crazy. Income has doubled since starting Ramsey plan.
All of that is CLEARLY explained and even in large print for people who open their bills. Some CC companies also promt you. For example, when I make a large charge on my B of A for example for a stockpile grocery haul at Costco or when I make a large payoff for same, I always get an alert asking me if the total is correct bc it is larger than usual payments or charges. Anyone who charges more than they can afford, that’s on them, not the CC company.
My CC bills actually state right on the bill how much I would be paying in total if I just made the minimum payment each month, so they already do that (even though I never rack up a balance as I pay as soon as a charge posts.)
Why did they even take the first call? Everything about that call was bloviating.....and the worst voice ever to hear online. Sounded so smug and condescending. If you're calling to brag, do it on another show....let the people who need help get thru and stop taking the braggarts.....unless they're calling back in to update after needing help in the past.
Hey Ken, Don’t be disrespectful to a 82 year old physician who built a net worth of $10 million. You don’t like it ? Don’t be small l-minded. Don’t be a total sell out to Dave Ramsey your entire life Ken, keep some integrity. I thought you were dad?
The talking over the caller is not only disrespectful but super frustrating to listen to. People can’t even get a complete thought out of their mouth they are trying to process. Please do better with this.
I use credit cards and pay them off each month. But credit cards are not because I'm okay. Living below my means and saving are why I'm okay. I make less than $1500 a year on credit cards cash back. That's not enough to make me wealthy. 🎉
Can you imagine America getting rid of credit cards to the general public Dave Ramsey might not exist today people coming to this program use credit cards to pay for it to learn not to use credit cards
Isn't marine biologist what like little girls want to go to school for when they're like 6 but eventually change their mind? What did this girl think she was going to be a scientist with a bachelor's degree from alaska?
So speaking about the first caller, if he makes a couple thousand a year from rewards and invests it and lets it grow every year and compound it can be a substantial amount of money. It is the same thing as someone who saves a couple thousand every year and invests. It doesn't matter where the money comes from is the compound interest that makes you wealthy. I understand that you can never recommend it because it is off brand and most people do not have the discipline to do it but if you can make it work 100% go for it. Do not let The Ramsey Show hold you back. Their advice works for 90% of people, but some people are honestly just above their plan and can become more wealthy using their own method.
@@kilroywashere9678Not defending credit cards or attacking them, just want the discussion to be fair and honest. You are correct in your math; however, before I started following Ramsey plan...I averaged 3.5% cash back and none of my cards had annual fees. The annual fee cards kept being marketed to me and cash back was the same or worse: they offered other "perks" that were meaningless to me, such as, "early check-in/late check-out," "free checked bag," "vacation concierge service," etc.

How did the first caller (Alan) get through ? Total waste of time.

Yes you're right those same idiots who continue to think using credit cards Will enable them to finally move up in life Will remain And broke Period if you do the same things you've always done especially using the same tool That never changes in its results and you expect different results that's the definition of being stupid
The absolute majority of all Millionaires decamillionaires and sent to millionaires that Ramsey Solutions have interviewed do not say that they built wealth based upon making money off their Cash Back Rewards or taking advantage of rewards points on credit cards Perry the fact the vast majority of them have never touched a credit card or they stopped using credit cards and then they noticed they started making monetary progress in life. If you want to be dumb enough to worship that that's your fault your choice and your problem. You got to change your mind and your mentality if you expect to have a real change in your life
100%

If you stop getting the rewards from credit cards, do you think they will stop taking money from the less fortunate? I doubt it.
This!👏👏
No, but the # of less fortunate keeps growing when they have access to CCs
@@TulsaDude not my problem. I manage my money, they manage theirs (or not). I'm not here to police anyone but myself.

@@myoldvhstapes Would you like to educate me as to how they make money from me?
@@Tiv_Love_Cars One way is that when you buy stuff with a credit card, the stores/websites have to pay the credit card company 3% (or whatever the rate is now) of that transaction in processing fees. With cash transactions, there are no card companies involved and the store gets all of the sale.
@@myoldvhstapesYou've yet to tell me how I pay. Because the store pays that 3%, not me.
