    Agree...it was god awful. And that scene where he is standing by the road getting arrested..I was like "is that Bozo the Clown?". I was laughing most of the movie when I wasn't falling asleep.

    So refreshing to hear you speak the truth about this movie. I'm so sick of all these 'critics' gushing over the most mediocre horror movies and pretending as if it is they are the best thing since Silence of the Lambs or Halloween. I can't think of any redeeming qualities this movie has. It is so slow paced and repeats the SAME BEAT the entire film. They tried to paint Long Legs as this Buffalo Bill / Hannibal Lector sort of creepiness and terrifying. But Nicholas Cage just had me laughing in disappointment at his portrayal the entire time. I never felt unnerved or scared of his appearance. It literally felt like I was watching an SNL skit. And when the time for the big reveal and twist of the film comes, they do it by dropping a bunch of exposition on us through narration. It would have been so much more satisfying if the main character found something in her home that relates her mother to Long Legs or her mother accidentally admitting something only the killer would know or literally ANYTHING rather than the script talking to us like we're too stupid to grasp the concept and spelling it out for us. And the amount of times the phrase "Hail Satan" is mentioned is ridiculous. It would have been so much more impactful if they ONLY TIME Long Legs said it was moments before bashing his head into the table and killing himself. Not to mention the corny wink and weird ending scene almost playing like a comedy. Overall just a boring, underwhelming, satanic crap from Hollywood. Will never revisit this again

      Do you think the comparisons to Silence of the Lambs are also a bit of an unfair bar? Naturally means that you are set up for an underwhelming ending in the third act because of how good SOTL was?

    For me, when it comes to elevated horror, its about the stunning camera work, atmosphere, and not following tropes and jump scares....but its also about the pay off at the end. When I think of Hereditary or Midsomer or even Black Coats Daughter...its about being blown aware by an ending and climax that comes out of nowhere and is unlike anything you've seen before. Personally, the artsy slow burn loses all of its impact if there's no payoff. This had no pay off for me. It led to a completely predictable ending that was so trope-y. I think its very much like "The Village", it was advertised as "the scariest movie of the year" and that was a huge problem.

    • @BYOBpod
      @BYOBpod  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But.. and the big question... did the pay off mean it wasn't scary for you? Arguably the first two acts were terrifying but that third act undid a lot of the good work.

    She might have had a glimpse of natural physique ability, but she was possessed by her own doll the whole time. That's the autistic savant ,empty vessel like persona she gives off. The film keeps you in state of horror the whole time, and at the same time keeps you guessing what comes next. Nicolas cage is Nicolas Cage playing Nicolas Cage and he takes full advantage of that and creates a very memorable villain. Much like what Anthony Hopkins was to Silence of the Lambs , Kevin Spacey to 'Seven" or even Sam Jackson to "Unbreakable'". The problem is most peeps watch trailers, tictoc, watch early reviews, view images, etc.. and it just takes the piss out of the whole experience. You go into the theatre expecting a movie based on that premise. Do yourself a favor ,and go into the cinema blind. I bet most peeps that enjoyed or even thought it was a great Horror movie didn't watch any propaganda of the film beforehand. either way I gave it an 8 and a half. 6 of that goes to Nicolas cage performance. I don't need a sequel, but perhaps a prequal, and only if Nick Cage is in it.

      @BYOBpod  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ahh nooo! Why did you think so?

    • @opathoris
      @opathoris 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BYOBpod 1. The main character (Harker) appears to be on the spectrum. She is unable to stare anyone in the eyes let alone even look in their direction. This would make her job as an FBI agent impossible. 2. Nic Cage is covered under pounds of prosthetic cheeks and chins… making his appearance silly rather than menacing the few times you actually see him 3. Nic Cage is barely in the film, yet the hype would have you believe he’s a dominant force through the whole film. 4. I must be missing a huge leap in logic here, but why would they go search the farm crime scene 15 years after the fact because the girl comes out of her catatonic state? Also the camera lingers on the open door to the barn… for no reason. 5. The doll angle is just stupid and a lazy trope at this point. 6. Two characters have to explain the plot through huge amounts of exposition - that’s a telltale sign of a bad script. 7. The ending sucks - give the audience something one or the other. Commit to an ending. 8. Oh. Forgot this one. What is the origin of the name Longlegs?
      It’s like someone ordered a bunch of stuff from a make your own horror movie menu and mashed it up. We saw it in a small theater with a wide range of ages in the audience. No one liked it, and most were ridiculing it.

      @@opathoris Nothing this movie thinks is a shocking twist, is actually a shocking twist. They don't find him through good detective work, he just tells her where he is. They have only interviewed two people, a survivor and Lee's own mother who encountered him while Lee was a child, I wonder which one is his accomplice? Now there are dolls for some reason. Could he not think of a more discreet way to deliver the curse? She dresses as a nun, she could have given the families a bible.
