The theremin is an electronic musical instrument that is played completely without physical contact. It was invented in 1919 by a Russian physicist named Lev Sergeyevich Termen. If you are new to the theremin, please learn about it. The wikipedia page is a good place to begin:
wikipedia.org/wiki/Theremin
About the helmet:
It was made of papier-mâché with a custom LED visor built in ... post production! using Softimage XSI and Adobe After Effects! Yes, it was a visual effect! 3D modeling, manual rotoscoping, and motion tracking/motion stabilization tricks were employed to pull this off. A LED array with animated text was projected on to a manually rotoscoped 3D visor, that was subsequently composited with the original footage using motion trackers in After Effects. The helmet itself took three days to make. I used 7 layers of card stock/normal stock paper strips in a special heavy mix paste recipe. The shape was built around a custom mold of shipping foam and gaffers tape. It was finished off with gunmetal grey paint. The visor was made of plastic cut from a microwave oven splash cover I found at Target for 5 dollars, laminated on both sides with Limo dark auto window tinting. I could see out, but the translucent plastic from the microwave splash cover along with the heavy tinting made it a little bit difficult. On the inside, the helmet was padded with custom cut felt blocks to fit my head size perfectly. The total weight was around 0.5 Kg (about 1 pound).

This won't reach everyone in the world, but I think it will reach everyone who needs it, thanks to the TH-cam algo finally working right. It makes my day every time I come back here and read the nice comments. Thanks for tuning in and remembering. And many thanks to Thomas and Guy-Man for the inspiration.
thank you for making this epic cover
I’m happy that the algorithm chose now, I’ve been showing my daughter Daft Punk and I know she’ll love this. One of my most favorite songs
Hey!
I came here today specifically to relisten to your version. That solo is something else.
Gran trabajo✨
This feels strangely amateur and incredibly professional at the same time.
Especially cuz it's made 12 years ago
You sure it isnt strangely voltmeter
Amateur and professional - These words used to mean whether or not you made money, but in this instance it’s a matter of aesthetic. Fun thing about proffesionalism is it’s subjective.
@@TheD736 That's a good point!

Why is TH-cam only just recommending this to me now?! and not 10 years ago!

This was one of the videos that got me into Daft Punk more than a decade ago. With the news of Daft Punk's break up, this is the first video that I went back to. The nostalgia is so real it hurts
So, you came back to this video? Same.

Maybe it’s some reminder
This video has been super important to me over the years as I've come back to watch it every now and then. I've never commented before but with the news of Daft Punk's retirement, I thought I finally would. This is my favorite Daft Punk cover ever. Randy adds beauty and heart to this song that is already full of those things and just honors the hell out of Daft Punk. You're amazing, man.
🦷
Love how the theremin solo wraps up into the Da Funk motif, fucking solid.
I love how the description says "This video was made for love" instead of with love lol
Crazy how a single word completely changes the meaning of the phrase.

Still the best Daft Punk cover, and the best theremin solo

So beautiful
Daft Punk really were ahead of their time
I remember finding this years ago, having loved daft punks songs as a kid, I somehow had never herd this song. And one day browsing youtube i found this cover. I must have listened to it over 20 times that night, never tiring. I even looked up the original after listeneing to this, and i actually thought it was worse. But now i love them both, but this cover still holds a dear place in my heart.
Incredible work
HOW AM I NOW BARELY JUST SEEING THIS, THIS IS A MASTERPIECE
IM THINKING THE SAME
'Cause TH-cam's algorithm is fairly new. If you didn't watch it back then when it was popular, you weren't looking hard enough. It took TH-cam about 9 years for it to develop an algorithm that somehow brings back old popular videos.
I KNOW RIGHT!!! THIS IS THE BEST
The song hits so much harder after you watch Interstella and understand why it's not the right time...

I discovered this video years ago and have never forgot it. I like it as much if not more than the original song. Blows me away that this guy is not just a talented synthetic music producer, but then proceeds to bust out expert-level theremin skills. Absolute legend.
I remember being in high school and watching this video a month after it came out, and it was already stacking up steady views amongst Daft Punk fans. The guys talent really is unquestionable.

Man this takes me back to a time of the internet I so badly wish I could return to. Life went by so fast. This video was so ahead of its time and it’s a shame it took so long for the algorithm to work in its favor. It’s also interesting to see how far live looping has come since this video released. Awesome cover man, glad to see you’re still ok after all these years :)
Here we are again, 11 years after and it stills as awesome as the first time. Congratulations for making such a creative and fun video my friend, wish you the best. That’s some high quality cover

Every now and then I come back to listen to this cover. And everytime it's as good as it was when I heard it for the first time.
Blowing minds since 2008
It’s crazy because this is such a sad song but the funk that daft punk put down with those synths and instruments makes it so fresh and groovy. And then Randy made his own version with so much creativity and talent. This cover is still my favorite after 10 years. Thanks Randy.
Randy, this is one of those videos that I keep coming back to over the years. There's so much emotion in this song, especially in your theremin solo. Theremin was the perfect instrument for this, and it captured the sorrow perfectly. I can feel it in my soul every time I listen to this. Thank you for this masterpiece.
