Marcel Diezasch I think taking out sidious would have been the right call. kill the emperor before the empire is really formed and the Republic would likely survive. dealing with the clones would be hard, but with the Republic maintained they'd probably find a way. it'd likely be seen as either a bout of insanity before his death or something

The few remaining Jedi would have moved _out_ of the political realm, if for no other reason than as a show of good faith that they didn't do it to gain power for themselves. And since the clones were loyal to the Republic, I doubt they would just turn on it or the Jedi without anyone forcing them. +Robert There's no guarantee that two Jedi would've been better than one against Sidious. Having them both there could have made it possible for Sidious to play on their desire to protect each other, making it even more difficult for them. Also look at how he wasted those 3 Jedi when Windu tried to arrest him. (Granted, they weren't as skilled duelists as Yoda, Obi Wan, and Windu, but still.) Windu won because his Vaapad style was the perfect counter for Sidious' raw power; it turned that power against him. No other Jedi had mastered the style without falling to the dark side. Yoda was unable to defeat Sidious in the end, and I don't see any reason to think Obi Wan could do it, either.
In the novelisation Yoda is strong and can contend with Sidious however Sidious was more powerful than Yoda. The novelisation says that Yoda realises he was not capable of beating Sidious, this is due to Yoda getting tired during the fight while been surprised that Sidious was actually still getting stronger and not tired like Yoda. ObiWans seresu style does not compliment Yoda either. On top of this Sidious was so far ahead of ObiWan he would probably kill him to initiate the fight like he did with Windu and Fisto etc. In short Yoda and Sidious were not equals and neither were Anikan and Obiwan. Anikan was by far stronger but upset by his own conflicting crimes and padme while also facing his perfect counter, there are a lot of reasons why he lost but not been strong enough is not among them.

The fundamental flaw with so many Yoda VS Vader arguments is that Yoda mastered ALL styles, &, while he wasn't his master, he mastered so many students that he would know exactly how to handle a Form V wielder. That "Yoda wouldn't know Anakin's details" isn't valid- because Anakin knew Obi-Wan just as well, so neither opponent would have an advantage in that field. Not to mention, he was so superior to Anakin in the Force.
Martian Fusion also, yoda fought darth sidious to a stalemate. plus the use of a lightsaber is not the only way to win a battle between force users. and yoda is extremely powerful with the force.

Yoda would easily win besides him being the master of all things Jedi and lightsaber related the fact that he's avatar The Light Side. Vader would have been even more sloppier because he would be facing the very embodiment of the restrictive order that he was so angry with.
This is almost exactly what I was going to write. Yoda mastered all styles and taught all styles and likely taught Anakin when he was young. He would have quickly adapted and countered and overwhelmed Anakin. In addition, I don't think the lava was a physical threat to Yoda in the same way. Yoda fought much smarter and conserved resources, as soon as Anakin tried to land on that droid over the lava, yoda would have just yanked it out of the way or something.

Level head or not, he was still transitioning between light and dark. Also, Dooku fled from Yoda during that fight, bc he knew he would eventually lose. Yoda kills him at this stage 10 times out of 10, even Sidious knew he would lose.

I think even a full powered dark side Anakin would still have trouble with either of them. Mace feeds off the dark and can basically sense and act on any weakness. Anakin even commented on how impressed he was witnessing Mace and Sidious fight, saying he could barely see what was going on bc they were moving so fast. Yoda was a master of every form, so he could simply switch to the form that would beat Anakin’s form 5. If Anakin had more time, maybe it would be a toss up between them, but while still transitioning I still believe he would lose almost every time. I would say that, by itself, nearly 900 years of experience as well as mastery of all other dueling forms, Yoda would have made mincemeat out of Vader. What's more, Yoda trained both Obi Wan and Anakin, so he's very well familiar with both of them as individuals and fighters. While perhaps lacking the intimate knowledge of Anakin that Obi Wan had, Yoda would know enough, and in many ways, see right through Vader without having the personal feelings getting in the way. I'm sure Yoda would have readily switched forms or even combined forms as needed given the situations to easily overtake Vader. The premise of this video is that he'd stick with a particular form, when in fact he'd most likely use the various form(s) fluidly as needed, and would be far more adept at it than Vader, having simply much more practice at it.
1. Experience didn’t help Dooku when he was on his knees in front of Anakin. 2.Yoda trains literally every padawan, and even still, he only trains them in the basics. Yoda doesn’t know much about any single Jedi, although he is more versatile due to being able to adapt to any form. 3.Obi-Wan let go of his attachment the second he found out it was the only way to win. 4.Yoda only knows all forms in theory, he can’t use them all due to his small stature, and feeble build. Besides, knowing all forms didn’t help Cin Drallig when he was stomped by Anakin with one hand.

No he's not Yoda is a MASTER of ALL saber forms. He favours form IV but it's not the only style he's mastered, do you really think a 800 year old Jedi Master is going to stick to his preferred style if it's going to get him killed or give him a hard time, especially when he's MASTERED ALL saber forms?... No of course not and this is why Anakin would be dead so much quicker than the drawn out fight Obi-Wan has with him. Yoda would finish the fight as quickly and as efficiently as he could because a drawn out fight for him is bad... he's old and tires quickly even with the force to aid him - this is why he favours form IV over others. So if form IV is going to make the fight longer and more dangerous for him he'd change his style to adapt and use a style that will give him a quick victory. Anakin/Vader is to arrogant and angry to use this to his advantage - he would go full on aggressive against Yoda he's yet to learn 'humility' and patients (Obi-Wan teaches him that in the harshest of ways as we know), and would get himself killed thinking he can beat an aged Yoda... or he would be a total coward and just run for the hills. As we know Sith to do all the time, when they DO realise they are out matched - however I don't think Anakin would do this he's to arrogant and full of himself he's 'the chosen one' after all. Most Likely Yoda would keep to form IV as he needs it due to his age and size... but add elements of II and VIII into his style to fight Anakin, using Form II combined with form VII to counter Anakin rage and channel his own anger and dark feeling at the younglisng's death by Anakin/Vaders hand to over come and defeat Anakin quickly. I think Yoda could use form VII at this point as he wouldn't have had time to meditate and centre himself at the horror that had befallen all the Jedi... it's like Yoda felt each death as it happened - this would bring him dark thoughts but such a master would be able to channel and control such feeling. Also Yoda has 800 years of experience and life to draw on to be able to find the darker side in him to use form 7, and be able to do so without losing control being such a master of his emotion and mind - he's the considered the greatest Jedi Master of his time for a reason. I'm pretty sure we see him tap into this with his dual with Palpatine and would say that he used something like what i describe above to fight Palpatine. Tricks & tactics, acrobatics and control anger and a relentless assault - All aspects of form 2 , 4 and 7 as mentioned.

It’s the difference between a 800 year old wizard and a 30 year old wizard. While I do agree there are cases in which a much younger dark sided kills a much older dark sider many times it seems to have been done with tricks or after years of training under them.

Furthermore, Vader/Anakin wouldn't feel the same frustration and inner turmoil like if he fought Obi-Wan, his former master and best friend. And don't try to twist the lava river into something Yoda could utilize, the fight would most surely have ended before the opponents even reached it. No one can outright make a call on who would win that fight it's impossible to tell. Both looked very good in their own duels it's kind of hard to pick who stood out more. Both very fast and very force sensitive
This flies in the face of in cannon feats. Anakin couldn't even perceive Sidius' strikes in the WIndu fight because they were so fast, yet Yoda fought Sidius on even terms. Therefore we can conclude that Yoda's speed and perception is on another level entirely from Anakin's, and he would likely curb-stomp Anakin in a matter of seconds regardless of which fighting style Yoda chose. Not to mention that Obi Wan was sent to fight Anakin instead of the Emperor specifically because he was a less powerful fighter.

James xzavian No, Dooku held on for 30 seconds and then ran away. If he had stayed, he would have got wrecked the same way Maul did when he dueled Palpatine. Current canon has Maul ranked above Dooku, so that tells us without a doubt, Dooku isn't as big and bad as his fanboys make him out to be. Furthermore, Anakin is canonically stated to be Obi-Wan's equal, despite getting a boost in power from the dark side, and Yoda already told us Obi-Wan could not defeat Palpatine. Had Yoda gone to Mustafar, Anakin would not have survived. Fact.
@@nxzavian The novelizations and supplementary material clearly describe Yoda holding back in his duel against Dooku, only fighting to demonstrate just how easily and instantly he could overwhelm and kill him at any moment. You see Dooku panic in the duel in the film as well. Yoda wasn't willing to just kill him, and so hoped he could convince him to surrender by proving just how far their gap still was.

And what if yoda and Obiwan confronted Vader together, defeat him and then wait for his master to come rescue him and then they both confronted sidious.
We all know that if that happened, Vader would have died or turned to the light. Then it would have 3 Jedi vs the Sith Emperor. Sidious would have been killed, since he would have gone to Mustafar. Yoda would have killed Sidous, if he did not fall. Yoda beat Sidious in the lightsaber fight and actually did beat him in the force struggle. You see Yoda turn the tables on Sidious during that force power struggle. Sidious was looking very concern, but Yoda fell too far and knew that if they did kill the Emperor, the clones and the Republic will still see the Jedi as evil. Yoda also saw into the future and knew what had to be done. He probably saw that Luke would return the Jedi to where it should have gone. That is why he decided to retreat.
Anakin couldn't have won Yoda could force push him into lava after jumps around and stabs him or cuts of his legs leaving on the ground and then he could force push him in the lava. How so? Aside from sidious and MAYBE mace, there was no better duelist than anakin so why is it laughable that yoda and anakin is actually a close match up?

Dooku himself stated that a dark side Yoda would have annihilated Sidious. He just saw a glimpse of that horror and was terrified by what he witnessed. Only Full Potential Anakin could have won among the mortals.
yoda would try to turn anakin into a light before even starting dueling and considering that anakin had guilt what he had done and wasent fully on darkness i think yoda would bring anakin into light side again. then they would go help obi wan to take Down dark lord.
Could be quite awesome. Yoda talks sense into Anakin. Both return to Coruscant to help Obi-wan. But as they arrive Obi-wan is slain. Through the loss Anakin turns again to the Dark Site and slains together with Sidious Yoda.
I don't think Yoda could have, at least not that easily. Padme had tried talking sense into him, and Anakin wasn't listening. Obiwan tried talking to Anakin before he started the fight, and again Vader wasn't listening. Vader at this point was selfish, he was thinking of himself. I do believe Obiwan could have turned Anakin back to the light, Starwars Therory did a video on this, and i believe it was possible but not without a fight.
Actually, anikan was listening when padme talked to him. What ruined it was obi wan appearing. If obi wan hadnt appeared, its likely that anikan would have listened and ran away with her.
this left out one very important detail mentioned in the novelization: Anakin was severely famished and sleep deprived during their duel. in other words, in absolutely the WORST condition to be fighting a patient, defensive and calculated Form III master able and willing to wait for his opponent to run out of stamina and/or patience.
Dooku said Yoda and Sidius were equal in power in the novel and we saw that in that fight. Yoda lost to gravity and Sidius's dark sense of humor. It was purely by chance that Sidius landed in the stands and Yoda landed on the edge of a tipping seat with no grip. The blast was caused by matching force between the two. He only exiled himself because he failed to kill Sidius and couldn't continue the fight after such a serious fall. I think Yoda's extensive knowledge of the force would have earned him an eventual and very hard fought win against Sidius, thanks to the lost knowledge. I think Yoda would have broken his foot off in Anakin's ass something fierce. When Anakin took L's, he lost bad. Like, he got gnarly wounds like lost limbs [big up, Dooku]. Yoda was a greater master of his preferred style than Obi Wan was of his, plus, Yoda knows all the styles. He would definitely switch as soon as it was in his best interest to. Anakin would have been stuck and unable to keep up with the mix against centuries of combat experience and power on the same level as his Sith master. I don't disagree with the conclusion that he would win, just saying it would have been a pretty easy win for him. It's important to remember that Anakin's count isn't the same as his fully realized power. It speaks to just his potential, which he never reached. He never matched Sidius in power in life. Ever. And his growth was slowed by his wounds from Obi Wan. He still got pretty far but not as far as most think. I mean, as impressive as an interstellar force choke is, his grandson totally stopped an actual light beam in its tracks, kept it perfectly in place for a whole scene, and did it with zero effort and hardly any attention at all. Shit, he literally broke the physics of the universe he's in lol That's pretty goddamn powerful by comparison.
what is the point in mastering all 7 styles if you only stick to one of them? Surely you would choose the style best suited to defeat your opponent? So in the case of Yodo why would he stick to form 4 and not switch to form 3 to counter Darth Vader's form 5?
@@nxzavian well it was the one that worked best for him.. he was a tiny alien guy and due to his short body also only used a short light sabre.. this is a huge disadvantage in sword fighting.. but he realized that form 4 was the best to compensate this disadvantage and that is why he primarily used it..

I have to disagree. Yoda was Grand Master for a reason. As Grand Master Yoda would have mastered all forms of Lightsaber combat to their highest level. Obi-wan may have een the best at form 3, but Yoda would have had t advantage as master of all forms. Even if we accept that Yoda like form 4 the best, he would have been able to switch forms as he fought Vader. That way he keeps Vader off balance. Also one advantage Yoda had you never spoke of was Yoda's age. As he was almost 900 years old he had centuries of experience to draw on. Obi-wan would not have had that level of experience. The bottom line is Yoda would have finished off Vader sooner than Obie-wan.
And Yoda would not have had a crisis of conscience and left him alive. Fire bath for Vader, end of story. In canaon he knew about maul's surviaval and would not risk that.
Totally. Plus, I think Vader only lasted that long against Obi Wan because Obi Wan Was conflicted. He knew what he had to do but hadn’t committed to it yet (and still couldn’t kill his best friend in the end) because he had a few opportunities to kill Vader in their fight, but only upon failing to bring him back while on the lava droids and realizing how far he had fallen did Obi Wan finally steel himself to finish it. So yeah, Vader isn’t making it off the landing pad against Yoda.
Of course the Duel between Vader and Yoda described in this video assume that Yoda wouldn't switch techniques. Also it should be remembered that Yoda's experience of over 800 years as a Jedi Master is a significant advantage for Yoda in any duel.
I don't agree with Yoda having a disadvantage. You say Yoda was at a disadvantage compared to obi-wan as the latter had trained with Anakin and knew his moves/tendencies but you neglected to mention that this works in reverse too - Anakin would not have much prior experience fighting someone like Yoda, in fact this would be in Yoda's favor as he would definitely have plenty of experience sparring against regular-sized jedi utilizing shiem so, wheras fighters of Yoda's stature using Ataru style are in (forgive me) short supply relatively speaking, Yoda would have a WEALTH of experience to draw on whilst fighting Anakin, whereas Anakin would have to rapidly adapt to an incredibly skilled and powerful Ataru user utilizing an unorthodox fighting method to compensate for his stature. When I say unorthodox, compare qui gon and yoda. Most Jedi using Ataru fight like jhin did; using wide, powerful swings, preferring downward diagonal cuts toward the shoulder and horizontal sweeps targeting the torso with the occasional leg-sweep, Yoda on the other hand, fights by delivering extremely rapid horizontal swings targeting the legs, groin and stomach primarily, using his small size and short saber to his advantage by utilizing rapid spins to deliver fast and unpredictable flurries of blows, occasionally springboarding off of terrain to launch cuts at the head and torso. Yoda only uses Ataru in the technical sense, in truth it is so heavily modified to suit him it is effectively a new form entirely, much like how Mace Windu fights with a modified version of Juyo, known as Vaapad. When you consider the above with Yoda's wealth of experience and strength in the force rivalling or possibly exceeding Sidious, I don't see Anakin winning this.
Tronacy In order for someone to do that, they would have be much more powerful than their enemy and have a moment of time to prepare to do it. It was not wise to try to do that.
There’s a sith form where they turn there lightsaber off then back on making you miss your strike you thought was about to be blocked then boom you just got stabbed. But it’s very risky cause the person could just swing and hit you as soon as you click yours off.
One had to be exceptionally more powerful and skilled in the force than their apponent to do so. Otherwise the other could sense it coming and resist it. Yoda does something similar in the clone wars when he rips asaj ventress' lightsabers out of her hand and then returns them to her, but that is the level of power imbalance that is required for something like that to happen. Remember when obi and anakin are force pushing each other and are basically at a stalemate. Anakin is clearly the stronger force user, but obi is skilled enough with the force to make up the difference in relative strength.

If Yoda could defeat Vader, he would have done it in the 20 years between RotS and ANH. Neither of them could, and that's why they hid and waited for Anakin's son (or daughter) to come of age. It took a Skywalker to defeat a Skywalker. Obi-Wan didn't face Vader on Mustafar, not really. He fought the last remnants of Anakin Skywalker, with all the memories and emotions of having been closer than brothers or like father and son for years. Anakin was angry, yes, but not full of rage and hate. He was in fact nearly as reluctant to kill Obi-Wan as Obi-Wan was to kill him, at least at first. They fought, but their hearts weren't truly in it. Anakin might not have even realized he was holding back, but he wasn't nearly as motivated as he would become later as fully Vader. And that makes a huge difference. The Dark Side is fueled by rage and pain and hate, Anakin didn't have all that much of those negative emotions to draw on against Obi-Wan. For all practical intents and purposes, Obi-Wan was facing Anakin the fallen Jedi and not the Lord of the Sith that he would become. Yoda would have faced a very different opponent. Anakin hated Yoda and blamed him for everything that happened including the death of his mother and the foreseen death of his wife --both things Yoda could have prevented and chose not to. The rage and hate and pure fury that he had for Yoda would have fueled the Dark Side power the likes of which we have never seen on screen. We'd have seen the true power of the Dark Side. Yoda wouldn't have been facing Anakin Skywalker fallen Jedi, he'd have been facing the most powerful Dark Side user in galactic history with fury hotter than a stellar core. He'd have been facing Vader at his absolute most powerful. Yoda was never much without the Force as his strength. He's tiny, frail, and weak. He wasn't much stronger when he was young. What he has always had was more Force ability than virtually anyone. Anakin was beyond his power, or Palpatine's. For the first time, he'd have faced someone stronger in the Force than himself and with a -personal- rage for revenge making him a conduit for pure Dark Side power like a solar eruption. Already at a physical disadvantage, he'd have been overpowered in the Force as well and would have been completely overwhelmed. Sidious would have probably made short work of Obi-Wan as well, putting an end to the Jedi once and for all. With an intact body and no weakness to Sith lightning, he could ahd would have destroyed Palpatine and ruled the galaxy.
Right off the bat you said that Yoda was a master of all 7 forms of lightsaber combat, so if Yoda were to duel Vader, what would stop him from adapting to Vaders aggression by using form 3 instead?
The other half of this question that hadn't been remarked upon, was what if Obi-wan fought Palpatine instead of Yoda fighting him. As you mentioned, it's been stated in the Star Wars universe that Obi-wan is the ultimate master of the defensive Soresu, whereas Yoda is the ultimate master of the acrobatic Ataru (though he HAD mastered all 7 forms). I think this would've given Obi-wan an advantage against Sidious because nothing Sidious can do would've overcome Obi-wan's masterful defense. We saw Windu defeat Sidious by using his rage against him, and it's reasonable to assume that Obi-wan could've held off Sidious' attack until Obi-wan could exploit an opening made because of Sidious' rage and frustration.
Sorry but you are incorrect Sidious was much more powerful in the force and would have crushed Obi-Wan. Also Palpatine cut down 3 Master Jedi in his office before they could attack. Palpatine was ungodly fast and in the book Anakin said him and Windu went almost unseen the entire battle only seeing the blur of sabers.
James Mulrey but in the movie they weren’t that fast at all, and those masters were unnerved by his force scream, Obi Wan could have kept up, especially if Mace windu could disarm palpatine
Nipsey Muscle Mace Windu could keep up because he fed off Palpatines power. His fighting style Vapaad an offshoot of Juyo was meant to feed and amp Maces power. Obi Wan was excellent and the outright master of Ataru he stood no chance against Palpatine. Palpatine could kill most Jedi with force powers he didn’t need a lightsaber. Vader feared him and only 2 Jedi Masters could have challenged him one (supposedly) died because of Anakin. The other couldn’t get Palpatine into a closed area where he could finish him. Palpatine feared one Jedi and it was Yoda because Yodas force powers were just as absurd before Luke.
Nipsey Muscle James is right. Palpatine would smoke Obi-Wan. The fact they are not that fast in the movie is because the audience is supposed to see a decent fight. It is the same thing when Russians speak Englisch in movies and say something like "your russian is superb". You are supposed to understand the context. That is called suspension of disbelief. Also don´t compare Windu and Obi-Wan in terms of lightsabre capabilities. Windu is a behemoth when it comes to lightsabre balltes. He would rape Obi-Wan.
Boston Tracy someone on the jedi force cast (probably EvanNova) gave a perfect example: Imagine a man with 50 years of fencing experience vs a man with no experience who can move at lightspeed. Well, Palpatine is a master of all forms, but you get the point.
This video missed something very simple and crucial. Yoda would not have strictly tried to duel and kill Vader. Combat wasn't Yoda's primary way of doing things. If anything Yoda would have first tried to use calm and reason one last time to ease Vader's pain and fear to at least attempt to neutralize him without combat.
True that Ataru is not the best fighting style to confront Anakin but ...... Yoda is not just any master. He was THE MASTER of ANY lightsaber style. He was just way above any opponent (except Sidious of course)
AvatarCritic Well, the real reason is because there would be no movie if that happened. But the "in movie reason" is because it was not necessary. Yoda could beat Anakin, probably fairly quickly, so the only two Jedi who were left didn't both need to go. Would have been a waste of resources. They were trying to move as fast as possible to stop the Emperor before he could take full control.
I honestly think that the fight scene in the movie would be amazing if Yoda went after Vader. Although I also think Yoda may have been more thoughtful and possibly been able to bring anakin back to the light.

Vader was holding back with obiwan, he wouldn't have with yoda, his pure hatred would have been at his height, and striken down yoda without remorse. Vader didn't want to kill obiwan which is why he won. But I am convinced that both obiwan and yoda were secret siths. Yoda being the master. Yoda knew everything that could have prevented the rise of the empire and yet he still allowed it to continue knowing exactly how to prevent it but kept it secret from everyone. Obiwan hid in plain sight where vader knew he could have been hiding, he also knew where yoda could have been hiding. Yoda is old, very old, almost immortal, the only entintieis that live that long are sith lords who spent time trying to cheat death and that is what yoda has done, and obiwan also found a way to cheat death as a force ghost. Both things that the sith aimed to do and yet both of them have achieved it. Cedius only said that to make himself feel better after failing to kill yoda himself, but cedius clearly is inexperienced with light saber combat. Mace's thrill of the duel is what held him back. It was his weakness that he enjoyed dueling too much and didn't want it to end.

@@nxzavian No he didn't, he had a higher midichlorian count (not by that much) and midichlorians do not directly transfer into usable power, still have to work and master things. Yoda beats Anakin in every category except height and upper potential, neither of which would have been enough to beat Yoda at the time.
While vader was powerful and had "the potential to be stronger than either of us" - sidious. I don't think he was strong enough to defeat yoda just yet.

Agree with all said upon Obi Won. However, I wonder about a few things. What does being a master of all forms means, if it not that Yoda can't move into form 3 at any particular time? Also, Anakin wouldn't have been familiar with Yoda either, which may have been an bigger issue as he would not be prepared for Yoda's speed. It would take a seamless defensive performance just for him to make it out of the early fight.
Two questions after seeing this intriguing video...1) How would Obi-Wan have fared against Darth Sidious? ...and 2) If Obi-Wan's style was so defensive, then what can we say about his style against Darth Maul right after Qui-Gon was dealt his fatal blow? Was it the same style, merely fueled by the aggression and desperation to avenge Qui-Gon? Cuz that was anything BUT defensive.
Obviously you aren't that familiar with the character of Obi Wan Kenobi because in fact he only started training in form III after the duel with Darth Maul. Before and during that duel, he used the offensive form IV like his master and Yoda, but Qui Gon's death showed him the vulnerablity of a form IV user, which made him switch after the Maul duel. During the Maul duel, he almost exclusively used form IV.
Anakin more lost because of his Pride. If he had any of Vaders mental capacity in the Sequels , Anakin would have gone through Obi one easily. It was known Anakin was the stronger warrior of Obi one and Anakin btw. Anakin defeated Dooku who drew with Yoda. Dooku was one of the absolute best duelist in the 25 thousand year Jedi history. He was Better as a Sith. Anakin didn't really feel the same way about Yoda as obi one. It's possible Anakin could beat Yoda. At least draw. Strong Possiblity. Now Obi One vs Sidious. Up in the air as well. Only cause he's so lucky. lol
There is no way that Anakin would have won or draw. Yoda was more powerful, wiser, and better at dueling then Anakin. If you review the fights, Yoda was on the verge of beating Count Dooku. Count Dooku had to make a quick getaway, he saw Anakin and Obi-wan on the ground and took advantage of that weakness. Then he ran off. If you go back to the fight with Mace and Sidious, Anakin could not follow their lightsabers. Then if you watch the fight of Yoda and Sidious, Yoda disarmed Sidious and then proceeded to beat him in the force struggle. Go watch the movies again and/or read the books. Yoda won the duel and force struggle against Sidious. Yoda would have easily beaten Anakin.

Although I liked the video, I disagree with the final conclusion. I think that Darth Vader would have lost to both Master Yoda and Obi-Wan Kinobe. You were spot on with the fighting styles and strengths vs weaknesses but I think you forgot to think about Yoda's power in the force. I think Yoda would've used both lightsaber and the force against Vader and we all know who the stronger force user was.

Marcel Diezasch I think taking out sidious would have been the right call. kill the emperor before the empire is really formed and the Republic would likely survive. dealing with the clones would be hard, but with the Republic maintained they'd probably find a way.

+Joesolo13 I actually don't think dealing with the clones would've been a problem. With Dooku and Sidious dead, no one would execute Order 66. The few remaining Jedi would have moved _out_ of the political realm, if for no other reason than as a show of good faith that they didn't do it to gain power for themselves. And since the clones were loyal to the Republic, I doubt they would just turn on it or the Jedi without anyone forcing them.
+Robert There's no guarantee that two Jedi would've been better than one against Sidious. Having them both there could have made it possible for Sidious to play on their desire to protect each other, making it even more difficult for them. Also look at how he wasted those 3 Jedi when Windu tried to arrest him. (Granted, they weren't as skilled duelists as Yoda, Obi Wan, and Windu, but still.) Windu won because his Vaapad style was the perfect counter for Sidious' raw power; it turned that power against him. No other Jedi had mastered the style without falling to the dark side. Yoda was unable to defeat Sidious in the end, and I don't see any reason to think Obi Wan could do it, either.

In the novelisation Yoda is strong and can contend with Sidious however Sidious was more powerful than Yoda. The novelisation says that Yoda realises he was not capable of beating Sidious, this is due to Yoda getting tired during the fight while been surprised that Sidious was actually still getting stronger and not tired like Yoda.
ObiWans seresu style does not compliment Yoda either. On top of this Sidious was so far ahead of ObiWan he would probably kill him to initiate the fight like he did with Windu and Fisto etc.
In short Yoda and Sidious were not equals and neither were Anikan and Obiwan. Anikan was by far stronger but upset by his own conflicting crimes and padme while also facing his perfect counter, there are a lot of reasons why he lost but not been strong enough is not among them.

The fundamental flaw with so many Yoda VS Vader arguments is that Yoda mastered ALL styles, &, while he wasn't his master, he mastered so many students that he would know exactly how to handle a Form V wielder.
That "Yoda wouldn't know Anakin's details" isn't valid- because Anakin knew Obi-Wan just as well, so neither opponent would have an advantage in that field.
Not to mention, he was so superior to Anakin in the Force.

This is almost exactly what I was going to write. Yoda mastered all styles and taught all styles and likely taught Anakin when he was young. He would have quickly adapted and countered and overwhelmed Anakin. In addition, I don't think the lava was a physical threat to Yoda in the same way. Yoda fought much smarter and conserved resources, as soon as Anakin tried to land on that droid over the lava, yoda would have just yanked it out of the way or something.

Yoda relied on form 4 due his physical limitations. He was very short and with form 4 he learned a way to overcome this disadvantage.

Level head or not, he was still transitioning between light and dark. Also, Dooku fled from Yoda during that fight, bc he knew he would eventually lose. Yoda kills him at this stage 10 times out of 10, even Sidious knew he would lose.

I think even a full powered dark side Anakin would still have trouble with either of them. Mace feeds off the dark and can basically sense and act on any weakness. Anakin even commented on how impressed he was witnessing Mace and Sidious fight, saying he could barely see what was going on bc they were moving so fast. Yoda was a master of every form, so he could simply switch to the form that would beat Anakin’s form 5. I would say that, by itself, nearly 900 years of experience as well as mastery of all other dueling forms, Yoda would have made mincemeat out of Vader. What's more, Yoda trained both Obi Wan and Anakin, so he's very well familiar with both of them as individuals and fighters. While perhaps lacking the intimate knowledge of Anakin that Obi Wan had, Yoda would know enough, and in many ways, see right through Vader without having the personal feelings getting in the way. I'm sure Yoda would have readily switched forms or even combined forms as needed given the situations to easily overtake Vader. The premise of this video is that he'd stick with a particular form, when in fact he'd most likely use the various form(s) fluidly as needed, and would be far more adept at it than Vader, having simply much more practice at it.

2.Yoda trains literally every padawan, and even still, he only trains them in the basics. Yoda doesn’t know much about any single Jedi, although he is more versatile due to being able to adapt to any form.

4.Yoda only knows all forms in theory, he can’t use them all due to his small stature, and feeble build. Besides, knowing all forms didn’t help Cin Drallig when he was stomped by Anakin with one hand.

No he's not Yoda is a MASTER of ALL saber forms. He favours form IV but it's not the only style he's mastered, do you really think a 800 year old Jedi Master is going to stick to his preferred style if it's going to get him killed or give him a hard time, especially when he's MASTERED ALL saber forms?...
No of course not and this is why Anakin would be dead so much quicker than the drawn out fight Obi-Wan has with him. Yoda would finish the fight as quickly and as efficiently as he could because a drawn out fight for him is bad... he's old and tires quickly even with the force to aid him - this is why he favours form IV over others. So if form IV is going to make the fight longer and more dangerous for him he'd change his style to adapt and use a style that will give him a quick victory.
Anakin/Vader is to arrogant and angry to use this to his advantage - he would go full on aggressive against Yoda he's yet to learn 'humility' and patients (Obi-Wan teaches him that in the harshest of ways as we know), and would get himself killed thinking he can beat an aged Yoda... or he would be a total coward and just run for the hills. As we know Sith to do all the time, when they DO realise they are out matched - however I don't think Anakin would do this he's to arrogant and full of himself he's 'the chosen one' after all.
Most Likely Yoda would keep to form IV as he needs it due to his age and size... but add elements of II and VIII into his style to fight Anakin, using Form II combined with form VII to counter Anakin rage and channel his own anger and dark feeling at the younglisng's death by Anakin/Vaders hand to over come and defeat Anakin quickly.
I think Yoda could use form VII at this point as he wouldn't have had time to meditate and centre himself at the horror that had befallen all the Jedi... it's like Yoda felt each death as it happened - this would bring him dark thoughts but such a master would be able to channel and control such feeling. Also Yoda has 800 years of experience and life to draw on to be able to find the darker side in him to use form 7, and be able to do so without losing control being such a master of his emotion and mind - he's the considered the greatest Jedi Master of his time for a reason.
I'm pretty sure we see him tap into this with his dual with Palpatine and would say that he used something like what i describe above to fight Palpatine. Tricks & tactics, acrobatics and control anger and a relentless assault - All aspects of form 2 , 4 and 7 as mentioned.

While I do agree there are cases in which a much younger dark sided kills a much older dark sider many times it seems to have been done with tricks or after years of training under them.

This flies in the face of in cannon feats. Anakin couldn't even perceive Sidius' strikes in the WIndu fight because they were so fast, yet Yoda fought Sidius on even terms. Therefore we can conclude that Yoda's speed and perception is on another level entirely from Anakin's, and he would likely curb-stomp Anakin in a matter of seconds regardless of which fighting style Yoda chose. Not to mention that Obi Wan was sent to fight Anakin instead of the Emperor specifically because he was a less powerful fighter.

We all know that if that happened, Vader would have died or turned to the light. Then it would have 3 Jedi vs the Sith Emperor. Sidious would have been killed, since he would have gone to Mustafar. Yoda would have killed Sidous, if he did not fall. Yoda beat Sidious in the lightsaber fight and actually did beat him in the force struggle. You see Yoda turn the tables on Sidious during that force power struggle. Sidious was looking very concern, but Yoda fell too far and knew that if they did kill the Emperor, the clones and the Republic will still see the Jedi as evil. Yoda also saw into the future and knew what had to be done. He probably saw that Luke would return the Jedi to where it should have gone. That is why he decided to retreat.

Dooku himself stated that a dark side Yoda would have annihilated Sidious. He just saw a glimpse of that horror and was terrified by what he witnessed. Only Full Potential Anakin could have won among the mortals.

I don't think Yoda could have, at least not that easily. Padme had tried talking sense into him, and Anakin wasn't listening. Obiwan tried talking to Anakin before he started the fight, and again Vader wasn't listening. Vader at this point was selfish, he was thinking of himself. I do believe Obiwan could have turned Anakin back to the light, Starwars Therory did a video on this, and i believe it was possible but not without a fight.
Actually, anikan was listening when padme talked to him. What ruined it was obi wan appearing. If obi wan hadnt appeared, its likely that anikan would have listened and ran away with her.

this left out one very important detail mentioned in the novelization: Anakin was severely famished and sleep deprived during their duel. in other words, in absolutely the WORST condition to be fighting a patient, defensive and calculated Form III master able and willing to wait for his opponent to run out of stamina and/or patience.

Dooku said Yoda and Sidius were equal in power in the novel and we saw that in that fight. Yoda lost to gravity and Sidius's dark sense of humor. It was purely by chance that Sidius landed in the stands and Yoda landed on the edge of a tipping seat with no grip. The blast was caused by matching force between the two. He only exiled himself because he failed to kill Sidius and couldn't continue the fight after such a serious fall.
I think Yoda's extensive knowledge of the force would have earned him an eventual and very hard fought win against Sidius, thanks to the lost knowledge. I think Yoda would have broken his foot off in Anakin's ass something fierce. When Anakin took L's, he lost bad. Like, he got gnarly wounds like lost limbs [big up, Dooku]. Yoda was a greater master of his preferred style than Obi Wan was of his, plus, Yoda knows all the styles. He would definitely switch as soon as it was in his best interest to. Anakin would have been stuck and unable to keep up with the mix against centuries of combat experience and power on the same level as his Sith master. I don't disagree with the conclusion that he would win, just saying it would have been a pretty easy win for him.
It's important to remember that Anakin's count isn't the same as his fully realized power. It speaks to just his potential, which he never reached. He never matched Sidius in power in life. Ever. And his growth was slowed by his wounds from Obi Wan. He still got pretty far but not as far as most think. I mean, as impressive as an interstellar force choke is, his grandson totally stopped an actual light beam in its tracks, kept it perfectly in place for a whole scene, and did it with zero effort and hardly any attention at all. Shit, he literally broke the physics of the universe he's in lol That's pretty goddamn powerful by comparison.

what is the point in mastering all 7 styles if you only stick to one of them? Surely you would choose the style best suited to defeat your opponent? So in the case of Yodo why would he stick to form 4 and not switch to form 3 to counter Darth Vader's form 5?
Tony mastering multiple forms helps you fight against them more effectively. Same as in a fighting game
@@nxzavian well it was the one that worked best for him.. he was a tiny alien guy and due to his short body also only used a short light sabre.. this is a huge disadvantage in sword fighting.. but he realized that form 4 was the best to compensate this disadvantage and that is why he primarily used it..

The reason OP pointed out that Sidious was nearly always trying to get away or distance himself from Yoda shows just how powerful Yoda is, that someone as powerful as Sidious would take such great caution in their battle.
I have to disagree. Yoda was Grand Master for a reason. As Grand Master Yoda would have mastered all forms of Lightsaber combat to their highest level. Obi-wan may have een the best at form 3, but Yoda would have had t advantage as master of all forms. Even if we accept that Yoda like form 4 the best, he would have been able to switch forms as he fought Vader. That way he keeps Vader off balance. Also one advantage Yoda had you never spoke of was Yoda's age. As he was almost 900 years old he had centuries of experience to draw on. Obi-wan would not have had that level of experience.
The bottom line is Yoda would have finished off Vader sooner than Obie-wan.
And Yoda would not have had a crisis of conscience and left him alive. Fire bath for Vader, end of story. In canaon he knew about maul's surviaval and would not risk that.

Totally. Plus, I think Vader only lasted that long against Obi Wan because Obi Wan Was conflicted. He knew what he had to do but hadn’t committed to it yet (and still couldn’t kill his best friend in the end) because he had a few opportunities to kill Vader in their fight, but only upon failing to bring him back while on the lava droids and realizing how far he had fallen did Obi Wan finally steel himself to finish it. So yeah, Vader isn’t making it off the landing pad against Yoda.
Of course the Duel between Vader and Yoda described in this video assume that Yoda wouldn't switch techniques. Also it should be remembered that Yoda's experience of over 800 years as a Jedi Master is a significant advantage for Yoda in any duel.

I believe Anakin/Darth Vader could have definitely lasted a while with Yoda, however would still ultimately lose.
I don't agree with Yoda having a disadvantage. You say Yoda was at a disadvantage compared to obi-wan as the latter had trained with Anakin and knew his moves/tendencies but you neglected to mention that this works in reverse too - Anakin would not have much prior experience fighting someone like Yoda, in fact this would be in Yoda's favor as he would definitely have plenty of experience sparring against regular-sized jedi utilizing shiem so, wheras fighters of Yoda's stature using Ataru style are in (forgive me) short supply relatively speaking, Yoda would have a WEALTH of experience to draw on whilst fighting Anakin, whereas Anakin would have to rapidly adapt to an incredibly skilled and powerful Ataru user utilizing an unorthodox fighting method to compensate for his stature. When I say unorthodox, compare qui gon and yoda. Most Jedi using Ataru fight like jhin did;
using wide, powerful swings, preferring downward diagonal cuts toward the shoulder and horizontal sweeps targeting the torso with the occasional leg-sweep, Yoda on the other hand, fights by delivering extremely rapid horizontal swings targeting the legs, groin and stomach primarily, using his small size and short saber to his advantage by utilizing rapid spins to deliver fast and unpredictable flurries of blows, occasionally springboarding off of terrain to launch cuts at the head and torso. Yoda only uses Ataru in the technical sense, in truth it is so heavily modified to suit him it is effectively a new form entirely, much like how Mace Windu fights with a modified version of Juyo, known as Vaapad. When you consider the above with Yoda's wealth of experience and strength in the force rivalling or possibly exceeding Sidious, I don't see Anakin winning this.
This assumes that Yoda isn't wise enough to realize form IV was not the right form... Yoda was also beyond proficient in other forms....
Plus, Yoda has other force abilities that Obi-Wan doesn't have.

There’s a sith form where they turn there lightsaber off then back on making you miss your strike you thought was about to be blocked then boom you just got stabbed. But it’s very risky cause the person could just swing and hit you as soon as you click yours off.
One had to be exceptionally more powerful and skilled in the force than their apponent to do so. Otherwise the other could sense it coming and resist it. Yoda does something similar in the clone wars when he rips asaj ventress' lightsabers out of her hand and then returns them to her, but that is the level of power imbalance that is required for something like that to happen. Remember when obi and anakin are force pushing each other and are basically at a stalemate. Anakin is clearly the stronger force user, but obi is skilled enough with the force to make up the difference in relative strength.
The Jedi/Sith and their lightsaber are one. Another cannot simply turn it off or on while it’s in their possession.

If Yoda could defeat Vader, he would have done it in the 20 years between RotS and ANH. Neither of them could, and that's why they hid and waited for Anakin's son (or daughter) to come of age. It took a Skywalker to defeat a Skywalker.
Obi-Wan didn't face Vader on Mustafar, not really. He fought the last remnants of Anakin Skywalker, with all the memories and emotions of having been closer than brothers or like father and son for years. Anakin was angry, yes, but not full of rage and hate. He was in fact nearly as reluctant to kill Obi-Wan as Obi-Wan was to kill him, at least at first. They fought, but their hearts weren't truly in it. Anakin might not have even realized he was holding back, but he wasn't nearly as motivated as he would become later as fully Vader.
And that makes a huge difference. The Dark Side is fueled by rage and pain and hate, Anakin didn't have all that much of those negative emotions to draw on against Obi-Wan. For all practical intents and purposes, Obi-Wan was facing Anakin the fallen Jedi and not the Lord of the Sith that he would become.
Yoda would have faced a very different opponent. Anakin hated Yoda and blamed him for everything that happened including the death of his mother and the foreseen death of his wife --both things Yoda could have prevented and chose not to. The rage and hate and pure fury that he had for Yoda would have fueled the Dark Side power the likes of which we have never seen on screen. We'd have seen the true power of the Dark Side. Yoda wouldn't have been facing Anakin Skywalker fallen Jedi, he'd have been facing the most powerful Dark Side user in galactic history with fury hotter than a stellar core. He'd have been facing Vader at his absolute most powerful.
Yoda was never much without the Force as his strength. He's tiny, frail, and weak. He wasn't much stronger when he was young. What he has always had was more Force ability than virtually anyone. Anakin was beyond his power, or Palpatine's. For the first time, he'd have faced someone stronger in the Force than himself and with a -personal- rage for revenge making him a conduit for pure Dark Side power like a solar eruption. Already at a physical disadvantage, he'd have been overpowered in the Force as well and would have been completely overwhelmed.
Sidious would have probably made short work of Obi-Wan as well, putting an end to the Jedi once and for all. With an intact body and no weakness to Sith lightning, he could ahd would have destroyed Palpatine and ruled the galaxy.
Ataru weak against Djem-so? Djem-so is a slow style which is hard to catch up Ataru's high speed in both offense and defense.
Right off the bat you said that Yoda was a master of all 7 forms of lightsaber combat, so if Yoda were to duel Vader, what would stop him from adapting to Vaders aggression by using form 3 instead?
The other half of this question that hadn't been remarked upon, was what if Obi-wan fought Palpatine instead of Yoda fighting him. As you mentioned, it's been stated in the Star Wars universe that Obi-wan is the ultimate master of the defensive Soresu, whereas Yoda is the ultimate master of the acrobatic Ataru (though he HAD mastered all 7 forms). I think this would've given Obi-wan an advantage against Sidious because nothing Sidious can do would've overcome Obi-wan's masterful defense. We saw Windu defeat Sidious by using his rage against him, and it's reasonable to assume that Obi-wan could've held off Sidious' attack until Obi-wan could exploit an opening made because of Sidious' rage and frustration.
Sorry but you are incorrect Sidious was much more powerful in the force and would have crushed Obi-Wan. Also Palpatine cut down 3 Master Jedi in his office before they could attack. Palpatine was ungodly fast and in the book Anakin said him and Windu went almost unseen the entire battle only seeing the blur of sabers.

Nipsey Muscle Mace Windu could keep up because he fed off Palpatines power. His fighting style Vapaad an offshoot of Juyo was meant to feed and amp Maces power. Obi Wan was excellent and the outright master of Ataru he stood no chance against Palpatine. Palpatine could kill most Jedi with force powers he didn’t need a lightsaber. Vader feared him and only 2 Jedi Masters could have challenged him one (supposedly) died because of Anakin. The other couldn’t get Palpatine into a closed area where he could finish him. Palpatine feared one Jedi and it was Yoda because Yodas force powers were just as absurd before Luke.
Nipsey Muscle James is right. Palpatine would smoke Obi-Wan. The fact they are not that fast in the movie is because the audience is supposed to see a decent fight. It is the same thing when Russians speak Englisch in movies and say something like "your russian is superb". You are supposed to understand the context. That is called suspension of disbelief. Also don´t compare Windu and Obi-Wan in terms of lightsabre capabilities. Windu is a behemoth when it comes to lightsabre balltes. He would rape Obi-Wan.

This video missed something very simple and crucial. Yoda would not have strictly tried to duel and kill Vader. Combat wasn't Yoda's primary way of doing things. If anything Yoda would have first tried to use calm and reason one last time to ease Vader's pain and fear to at least attempt to neutralize him without combat.

Yoda could beat Anakin, probably fairly quickly, so the only two Jedi who were left didn't both need to go. Would have been a waste of resources. They were trying to move as fast as possible to stop the Emperor before he could take full control.

To say Yoda could not have bested anakin vadar is an extreme disservice to Yoda Jedi Grand Master. Furthermore, the edge you give to Obi-Wan due to the personal rage Anakin had would have manifested tenfold towards Yoda. Vader was holding back with obiwan, he wouldn't have with yoda, his pure hatred would have been at his height, and striken down yoda without remorse. Vader didn't want to kill obiwan which is why he won. But I am convinced that both obiwan and yoda were secret siths. Yoda being the master. Yoda knew everything that could have prevented the rise of the empire and yet he still allowed it to continue knowing exactly how to prevent it but kept it secret from everyone. Obiwan hid in plain sight where vader knew he could have been hiding, he also knew where yoda could have been hiding.
Yoda is old, very old, almost immortal, the only entintieis that live that long are sith lords who spent time trying to cheat death and that is what yoda has done, and obiwan also found a way to cheat death as a force ghost. Both things that the sith aimed to do and yet both of them have achieved it. Cedius only said that to make himself feel better after failing to kill yoda himself, but cedius clearly is inexperienced with light saber combat. Mace's thrill of the duel is what held him back. It was his weakness that he enjoyed dueling too much and didn't want it to end.

@@nxzavian No he didn't, he had a higher midichlorian count (not by that much) and midichlorians do not directly transfer into usable power, still have to work and master things. Yoda beats Anakin in every category except height and upper potential, neither of which would have been enough to beat Yoda at the time.

Agree with all said upon Obi Won. However, I wonder about a few things. What does being a master of all forms means, if it not that Yoda can't move into form 3 at any particular time? Also, Anakin wouldn't have been familiar with Yoda either, which may have been an bigger issue as he would not be prepared for Yoda's speed. It would take a seamless defensive performance just for him to make it out of the early fight.
Two questions after seeing this intriguing video...1) How would Obi-Wan have fared against Darth Sidious? ...and 2) If Obi-Wan's style was so defensive, then what can we say about his style against Darth Maul right after Qui-Gon was dealt his fatal blow? Was it the same style, merely fueled by the aggression and desperation to avenge Qui-Gon? Cuz that was anything BUT defensive.
Obviously you aren't that familiar with the character of Obi Wan Kenobi because in fact he only started training in form III after the duel with Darth Maul. Before and during that duel, he used the offensive form IV like his master and Yoda, but Qui Gon's death showed him the vulnerablity of a form IV user, which made him switch after the Maul duel. During the Maul duel, he almost exclusively used form IV.
Anakin more lost because of his Pride. If he had any of Vaders mental capacity in the Sequels , Anakin would have gone through Obi one easily. It was known Anakin was the stronger warrior of Obi one and Anakin btw. Anakin defeated Dooku who drew with Yoda. Dooku was one of the absolute best duelist in the 25 thousand year Jedi history. He was Better as a Sith.
Anakin didn't really feel the same way about Yoda as obi one. It's possible Anakin could beat Yoda. At least draw. Strong Possiblity.

There is no way that Anakin would have won or draw. Yoda was more powerful, wiser, and better at dueling then Anakin. If you review the fights, Yoda was on the verge of beating Count Dooku. Count Dooku had to make a quick getaway, he saw Anakin and Obi-wan on the ground and took advantage of that weakness. Then he ran off.
If you go back to the fight with Mace and Sidious, Anakin could not follow their lightsabers. Then if you watch the fight of Yoda and Sidious, Yoda disarmed Sidious and then proceeded to beat him in the force struggle. Go watch the movies again and/or read the books. Yoda won the duel and force struggle against Sidious.
Yoda would have easily beaten Anakin.

Although I liked the video, I disagree with the final conclusion. I think that Darth Vader would have lost to both Master Yoda and Obi-Wan Kinobe. You were spot on with the fighting styles and strengths vs weaknesses but I think you forgot to think about Yoda's power in the force. I think Yoda would've used both lightsaber and the force against Vader and we all know who the stronger force user was.

Imo if yoda confronts Vader then it doesn’t even come to a fight I think yoda talks to him and realizes sidious manipulated Vader and tells him as much.
