absolutely massive! The guy walking on the fuselage and the ladder leading up to the cockpit!I saw one of these monsters at the airport in Lima Peru. It dwarfed the Mi-8s sitting near it!if only we built more and destroyed less. They should use those to drop food and books on people.
When a helicopter tail rotor size matches the main rotor size of normal every day helicopters you have to get a more elevated heart rate at the thought of flying such a beast!
I love this helicopter. It has such an ergonomic and aesthetically beautiful shape. It looks like a well cut woman with a perfect athletic body. Like dolphins look as they're born as masters of water world, this one looks as it's been born to strike the skies. Gives a feeling of calm balanced yet extreme power and safety
Well, yes, she's beautiful, with regards to her shapes. Not so much robust, though - sometimes they collapse like card castles or loose their tail booms as a result of hard landings. They tried to make this chopper as light as possible, to increase its lifting capabilities - but finally came to structural weakness.
The MI-26 is just incredible. Amazing to see a huge machine like that in hover. Were those ferry fuel tank? how far away did this machine come from? I hope it is in the movie in some amazing stunts... MI-26 is IMHO the greatest achievement in rotor craft technology. The main rotor is just an unbelievable engineering marvel.
If I may add, this thing is longer than a 737-800 (39.5m) and it's tail rotor is the same size a MD500 main rotor. And the third turboshaft we see is the APU. It's cargo capacity is about the same as a C130.
The most beautiful helicopter I had ever seen. Unfortunately the last one here in my country has been retired from service and maybe it will be on permanent display at the Air Force Museum. Greetings from MEXICO.
Huge monster! After watching videos and seeing pictures of this monste in the pastr, I just realized it doesn't have chin bubbles. Although the cabin crewmembers would help, I would have a hard time doing a precision hover without to chin bubble windows to look down out of, though with a beeper trim would be easier. Yes, the BO-105 looks like an RC model next to this monster. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
It's much bigger. The cargo compartment is pretty much the same size as the one on a legacy Hercules, and so are the lifting capabilities in general. Think of it as a Hercules with rotors instead of wings and you're pretty much spot-on. It's been known to lift almost 230 skydivers to a few kilometers, and been known to fly up to almost 7 km with smaller loads. Yeah, the specs say it can't do that, but it did. Also, it's still in production.
Very impressive and truly beautiful aircraft! Many thanks for posting this well done video without shaking and noisy music. The rotor sound is a great music!
What a beautiful aircraft! I think that the Belarussian pilot was showing off a bit. They are not that difficult to land. Very impressive. I never get tired of seeing it fly.
Indeed, it is incredible. The size of the main rotor totally amazed me. The tail rotor is as large as the main rotor of a Robinson R-22. Only Soviet engineers were crazy enough to design something like this but that's why I love Soviet machinery. Yes, the gray things are fuel tanks. It came from Belarus, but it had also made a stop at Debrecen Airport (LHDC) for customs and refueling.
You may be right. If however you are taking about the Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane, Wikipedia has the following info: - A bit longer (21.41 m vs. 40.025m) - Higher (5.7m vs. 8.145m) - Much bigger rotor diameter (21.95 m vs. 32m) - Bigger capacity (5 troops vs. 90 troops and 9,072 kg cargo vs. 20000kg cargo) etc. Powerplants: S-64: 2 × Pratt & Whitney JFTD12-4A turboshaft, 4,500 shp (3,555 kW) each Mi-26: 2 × Lotarev D-136 turboshaft, 8,500 kW (11,399 shp) each
Для тех кто не знает это самый мощный и самый грузоподъемный вертолёт и он серийный. Его не нужно в большом количестве выпускать. Его нормально обслуживают, несмотря на некоторые трудности. Он эффективен при пожарах.
Mi-26 is basically a helicopter variant of the C-130 Hercules... it's the same size and lifts the same. :p The rotor diameter is partly explained by the Chinook have 2 rotors, naturally.
It's got to be the most dangerous heli to operate, easily. Just look at how slowly and carefully they land and take off in those things. Gotta take your time with all 50 plus tons of it. Probably only the most skilled pilots are allowed to fly them. Gotta set down as gently as possible. Otherwise the undercarriage would just collapse. Even after the rear wheels are down the pilot still has to lower the nose wheel gingerly.
From a distance you think, "It's just another basic chopper" but one you get there and see a fully grown man walk on the tail you think, "Damn it takes after it's little behemoth helicopter the Mi 24 'Hind"
No, the Mi-12 was larger both in rotor diameter and height (and probably a bunch of other aspects, too). But Mi-12s don't fly anymore, while these beauties do :)
Boss: BOIS we gonna rob a Bank today Crew: That sound cool. So what the plan Boss Boss: It simple just tow the bank and all done Crew: Err... with what boss Boss: With THIS (Mi-26)
Michael User Not a NOTAR. NOTAR is no tail rotor, uses a ducted fan for directional control. There IS a tail rotor on that one. None the less, impressive bird!
Almost as big as the main rotor of the R22! 2" counts. Ask any woman!! Amazing that the blades on the tail rotor, all five, can be that long and tolerate all those forces. Must be "sucking" a lot of HP too for no lift.
Amazing helicopter. I saw Mi-26 at Kalamata's airport (Greece) like firefighting. Huge helicopter with amazing sound and engine's
This thing actually carried a chinook :D
No it carries 2 of them
What a small thing.
It carried a plane

She has the cargo capacity as much as C 130 Hercules! That is 20 tons

i dont know... i thought pregnant cat. a very impressive one though.

Galova mkmm
Same came to my mind. Good description
The shape is ok but I'd always felt the sides were missing something like pods on the hind or something similar
BO 105 looks like a radio control helicopter next to the Mi-26
Wow, amazing ship - it looked like it wanted to stay in the air!
Ship?
+Dhanny Dhuzell isn't that a kind of balloon?
Guys, in the helicopter world, helicopters are often referred to as 'ships' :-)
+GarethNIreland I thought only in James Cameron's Avatar they called helicopters "ships".

25 лет как не СССР, а до сих пор пользуемся теми разработками. Всё-таки было много хорошего, что позволяло гордиться страной.
One of the best heli video on YT

That was just amazing.I think she is wonderful.
Rumors say tide waves are created because one of them constantly flies over the sea. The ebb tide happens when it lands for refuel.
Fantastic video, awesome chopper!
That thing is a BEAST !! wow
The most beautiful helicopter I had ever seen. Unfortunately the last one here in my country has been retired from service and maybe it will be on permanent display at the Air Force Museum. Greetings from MEXICO.
In this case big is beautiful. Amazing chopper.🇬🇧

Otherwise the can't put the nuclear missile in the silo - thats why - chin bubble.

VERY NICE!!! ABSOLUTLY AMAZING!!! WONDERFUL HELICOPTER MI-26
Jesus you don't appreciate the size until that guy starts walking along the tail
Serious Gaming i agree
Serious Gaming TRUE !!!!!
Trực thăng này của Nga,xấu như ma....
Very impressive and truly beautiful aircraft! Many thanks for posting this well done video without shaking and noisy music. The rotor sound is a great music!
Mi-26 sounds more of a plane than a helicopter... pretty cool.
That helicopter is huge
How stable it is, incredible
Awesome!!....the biggest copter!
Fine 50 fps video. Thank You.
What a beautiful aircraft! I think that the Belarussian pilot was showing off a bit. They are not that difficult to land. Very impressive. I never get tired of seeing it fly.
+Helene Villemure what do you mean? I don't see any show here.
I have ridden in a Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Low and thought that was a giant helo (which it is!) but next to this thing...
I was an airframe tech on Chinooks. You can fit a chinook INSIDE this without its rotor blades fitted!
How cute the Bo 105 is beside the behemoth. "May I lend your tail rotor as main rotor?"
3:09 Those RC Helicopters are amazing
Still wondering how that thing didn't create a tornado with that giant rotor🤣
that tail rotor would be enough as main rotor for the common sized helis...:D:D:D
Almost. Main Rotor of a MD 500C: 8.03m; Tail Rotor of the Mi-26: 7.61m
For a Robinson R22 it would be pretty perfect (Main Rotor: 7.67m)
@@GrafKrolock82 insane
But on mi-26 tail rotor blades are so much bigger(wider) and have 5 blades..

awesome heli. love this vids
LOL just look at how cute and tiny that little black helicopter was when next to the Halo.

How the hell cabs machine that big fly?? Imagine the engine power needed to lift the monster!
And this can carry 8 tons of cargo.
up to 20 actually
Two 11500hp engines, this is power output on altitude tho.
They actually were supposed to develop new engine for this
3:15 size comparison and I'm blown away.
The Mutt and Jeff of helicopters.
The tail rotor on that is nearly the same size as the main rotor on the BO-105 :)
what a smooth landing!!
Absolutely beautiful
Defies all the law of physics
I love amry helicopters and their take off and landing sounds
Bigger better, Awesome Helicopter 🚁
The tail rotor of MI26 is equal to the main rotor of small helicopter 🤔
thanks for the video 😄
thank you

it looks surreal. cockpit window to body ratio looks odd because of its humongous size.

why is that BOC-105 always with this Mi-26? every video i have seen of this particular 26 always has that black 105 escorting it.

Beautiful Helicopter.
Russia has some great aircraft 👍 And their newer ones are also pretty awesome 👍🇺🇸😎
Cool to see the whole clip
Love this engine shutdown sound
badass helicopter

The other helicopter (I think it's a BO-105?) looks like a RC-model wit little figures in it, compared to the Mil Mi-26.
Who else is mesmerized by the mirage of the helicopter blades?

It looks like the hold is nearly full with the fuel tanks and the towing rig.
The black cooper is the big chopper's little baby being taught how to fly by the mother 💕💕.
Dam that is a huge Helicopter, holy shit.
Tail rotor is big like the main rotor of many copters 😳
What a thing of beauty!
Had to smile when i saw the painted blue underbelly. As if you could miss that in the sky 😂
Looks like the designers factored in landing in water?
Wow ....great
very nice video
It takes 5 people to fly this beast and it has eight rotor blades
Less than some small helicopters....
What ever what, the ECC-145 goes for 7 million.... The actual price of the 26 is 15-18 million. You're wrong.
The acquisition cost is minimal compared to the price of operation.
Crazy crazy ,
it`s tail rotor has nearly the size of the R22 main rotor
