      Russia is producing modernized Mi-26s and many countries of the world are buying them. There is no competition for this helicopter in the world. And this is not the largest helicopter that was developed in the USSR. MI-12 is the world's largest helicopter, which is significantly larger than even this giant called the Mi-26. But the Mi-12 did not go into mass production, because the tasks that were presented in the USSR to helicopters changed. In any case, it was in the USSR that the most amazing and advanced helicopters were created, which broke many world records.

    I like the fact that the two personnel in the boom lift basket at 0:07 are wearing no safety protection to speak of. Due to Australia's draconian safety regulations we would have to wear a high visibility long sleeve shirt, long pants, a hard hat, safety glasses, possibly hearing protection, sunscreen and a full safety harness that is then connected to the basket frame! Aside from this observation the Mil Mi-26 helicopter is a beast of a machine and full marks to the Russian's for creating it.

    I wonder how much downdraft wind power a few of these would be able to create if you put them in a line (of some configuration) and used them to BLOW OUT forest fires, tire fires, refinery fires, or any fire that is simply too big for fire trucks to put out on their own without needing 4 million gallons of water or more?

    • @DrRekiin
      @DrRekiin 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Now I'm not a physicist, but wouldn't that just fan the fires and make them even worse?

    • @nakedfaves
      @nakedfaves 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, I should have gone into more detail.....
      1) You place the helicopters on the side of the flames above the area that they haven't reached yet. Like with forest fires you place the helicopters where the flames haven't gotten to yet. Since the downdraft is hitting the flames from the unburned side the flames wouldn't have the ability to advance.
      For example, and time a fire is advancing up a hill you simply place the helicopters AT the top of the hill so that the downdrafts are continuing to blow down the mountain towards the flames at the lower elevation (even if that elevation is only 40 feet lower).
      Since the downdrafts are much faster than the rising heat coming from the flames the flame is being back down the mountain. Eventually the flames would be blown out before they could reach the top of the mountain.
      2) Since the helicopters could hover in one specific area for 5-15 minutes straight with the same force of wind power constantly, the pilots would simply stay in the "tunnel" that is created from the air being "sucked into" the blades from above and "blown out" from below until the constant push of air has blown the flames out just by sheer capacity to move millions of cubic feet of air in a very small location at a very rapid pace.
      Kind of like making a "burning man" size bonfire in a wind tunnel that's 100 feet tall by 200 feet long...........and then feeding a constant 150 MPH wind into the tunnel from one end. EVENTUALLY the amount of moving air would blow out the flames before all of the fuel could be consumed.
      (8^)

    Vajon megvan ennek a fogyasztása 1000 l alatt óránként? Szerintem nincs. Budaörsről Kiskunlacházáig bírta: szóval 50 kilóméterenként leszáll tankolni. Kicsit fárasztó lehet így kerülni HUN-SRB-BUL-n keresztül. Ha nem lenne kiírva a Magyar város, akkor is megismertem volna a légiforgalmi irányító kemény hazai akcentusát. :))
